Obituaries

   Age 56, of Mumford, died peacefully Tuesday July 23, 2013 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born November 23, 1956 in Albion, a son of Eunice (Lusk) Kuhns of Waterport and the late George Kuhns.

   Teddy was employed at Sodoma Farms in Brockport, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and campfires with his friends. He had a great love for the outdoors, his dog "Nolan" and was most proud of his son, David, currently assisting in Afghanistan where he is an independent security contractor.

   Surviving is his loving son, David (Melanie) Kuhns of Albion; brothers, Floyd (Judy) of KY, Kenny of Holley, Harry of Waterport, Tom (Lori) of Batavia and Joe of NC; sisters, Linda Burgio of Albion, Sandy (Clyde Dicks) Wills of Elba, Marty Kuhns of Albion, Pat (Evan) German of TN, Kathy (Chuck) Frisco of FL, Debbie (Scott) Jenkins of FL, Connie Kuhns of Waterport, Sherrie (David) Turkey of Canada, Shelly Crawford of NC; along with his daughter-in-law, Melanie, a special niece and caregiver, Lucretta "Renie" (Calvin) Maines of Elba and their children, Quentin & Mickayla; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and dear friends.

   Teddy's wishes were to have services held privately for the family, memorials in his memory are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Age 79, of Batavia died Thursday evening July 18, 2013 at his home in Batavia. He was born February 15, 1934 in Alleghany, NY to the late Oscar & Mildred (Sterling) Austin.

   Mr. Austin was Marine Corp. Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and was retired from Graham Manufacturing Co.

   Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Jennie Hartrick, 86 of Batavia, died July 26, 2013 in Rochester General Hospital. She was born March 7, 1927 in Bethany Center to the late Joseph (Mary Woronski) Zalenski. Mrs. Hartrick was retired from Massey Harris; she was a member of Resurrection Parish in Batavia. Jennie was an avid bingo player and she enjoyed crocheting and camping. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernard “Bud” Hartrick, brothers Eugene, Walter, and Joseph Zalenski Jr., her sisters Stella Fladie, Mary Barniak and Blanche Balicki.

She is survived by her son Robert (Susan) Hartrick of Dale, NY; daughter Barbara (Robert) Hazen of Medina, granddaughter Theresa (Matthew) Manela of Norton, MA, two great-grandsons Alex and Aiden Manela. One sister Francis (Robert) McCarthy of Batavia and a sister in law Ann Zalenski of Bethany survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

Friends are invited to call on Monday July 29, 2013 from 3 to 7 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish 303 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia, NY 14020.

Teresa G. Squires, 88 of Warsaw, passed away on July 25, 2013 at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw. She was born October 8, 1924 in Batavia to the late Sylvester (Mary Petz) George. Mrs. Squires was a retired school teacher having taught in Albion and the former St. Mary’s School in Batavia. She was formerly a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Albion and an enjoyed baking especially cookies. She is preceded in death by her husband John Edwin Squires, son Bernard Squires, brothers Paul, Lawrence, Harold and Francis George, and sisters Florence Reisdorf and Mary George.

Teresa is survived by her sons John (Mary) Squires of Brockport, Gregory (Sandra) Squires, Jeffrey (Sara) Squires all of Prattsburg, daughter Barbara (Joseph) Sanguiliano of Manalapan, NJ, brother Bernard (Mary) George of Batavia, sister Shirley (Thomas) Edbauer of North Tonawanda and 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.

Mary C. Tiberio, 93 of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born on January 27, 1920 in Batavia to the late Felix (Antoinette Parrinello) Marchese. Mrs. Tiberio worked at Genesee Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church and loved playing cards. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas L. Tiberio; daughters JoAnn Ray, Caroline Tiberio; brothers Joseph, Samuel and Anthony (Josephine) Marchese; grandson Michael Tiberio.

She is survived by her children Anthony (Carolyn) Tiberio of FL; Shirley (Richard) Parmenter of Oakfield;  brother Louis (Joann) Marchese of Batavia; sisters Rose Antinore, Katherine Cianfrini both of Batavia; Sister’s in law Connie (late Joseph) Marchese of CA; Gloria (late Samuel) Marchese of Batavia; Helen Tiberio of Caledonia; Dolores Tiberio of Rochester.  Grandchildren Kelly (Tiberio) Bothe, Corey (Tiberio) LeFevre, Thomas Ray, Eric Ray, Tina Parmenter & Richard Parmenter Jr.  6 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, along with several nieces and nephews.   

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 28th from 4-7PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. Prayers will be recited Monday July 29th at 9:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM  in Resurrection Parish  (St. Mary’s site) 18 Ellicott St. Batavia, NY 14020. LeRoy ~ John M. Klinkbeil, age 64, of Lake Street, passed away on Tuesday afternoon (July 16, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

     He was born August 28, 1948 in Buffalo, a son of the late Julius and Marion Callan  Klinkbeil.                                                                                                                                                           

      John was a social member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a member of the LeRoy Moose Family Center.  He loved to fish and enjoyed his truck driving job, considering himself to be a “paid tourist”.

     He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Rebecca Pringle of LeRoy, his children; Kerry Smith of FL, Jennifer Ocasio of FL, David (Connie) Klinkbeil of FL, Justin (Shannon) MacFarland of Buffalo and Tyson (Crystal) Klinkbeil of Buffalo along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins.

     There are no prior calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family.

Sarah B. Duschen, 92, of Batavia, passed away Friday (July 19, 2013) at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Sarah was born on May 21, 1921 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Albert and Catherine Johnson Miles. She worked for S.S. Kresge and retired from Doll's Super Duper Market in Corfu. Sarah was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved sewing, needlepoint, crocheting and knitting for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sarah was a member of the Indian Falls Methodist Church Senior Citizens.  Her husband Floyd Andrew (Andy) Duschen, passed away July 28, 2001. Sarah was the mother of the late Alvin, Gary and Cody Duschen; sister of the late Albert Henry Miles, William G. Miles, Oliver Miles, Ann Kelley and Frances Miles and grandmother of the late Joseph Samiec.

Sarah is survived by a son, James (Donna) Duschen of Corfu and a daughter, Dorothy Gioia of Batavia; one brother, Robert Miles of Corfu; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Miles of Corfu; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10 - 11 a.m. in the narthex of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church 7908 Allegheny Road, Corfu. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Mrs. Nellie A. VanScoy, 97, who has resided in Batavia since 1990, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. VanScoy was born November 8, 1915 in Newburgh, NY, the daughter of the late Carlton and Mary Ellen  (Sutton) Hall.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia as well as First Methodist Church of Newburgh she enjoyed bowling, making ceramics and loved to sing in the choir.  Mrs. VanScoy once sang for Eleanor Roosevelt and was proud to have been in a movie as a child.  

She was the wife of the late Harry G. VanScoy.

Survivors include two sons; David (Charleen) VanScoy of Batavia and Douglas (Gayle) VanScoy of Greenville, SC and a sister, Dorothy Lynch of Poughkeepsie.  She was the grandmother of Shawn (Shannon) VanScoy, Mark (Greta) VanScoy, Jeffrey (Mandy) VanScoy and Laurie (Joseph) Hyink.  Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

 Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 26, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St., Batavia.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St. or the Salvation Army, 529 East Main St., both  Batavia, NY 14020. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY. Arrangements were completed by the H. E. Turner & Co. CHARLOTTE WILLIAMS CONABLE, 83, July 19, 2013 in Sarasota, FL after a long battle with cancer. Born in Buffalo, daughter of the late Garnet and Charlotte (Seitz) Williams. Graduate of Lafayette High School, Cornell University and George Washington University. Sarasota resident since 2003 with her husband, the late Barber B. Conable, Jr., former WNY Congressman and World Bank President 1986- 1991. Survived by her four children, Anne (Peter Umbras) of Bennington, NY; Jane (Bernard) Schmieder of East Bethany, NY; Emily of White Hall, MD; and Sam of Sarasota, FL; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Wayne T. Smith, 58 of Castile, passed away on July 20, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born in Charleston, SC on March 28, 1955 to the late Edward J. Smith
and the late Madeline M. Murphy. Wayne was a longtime member of the Perry Vets Club; Sportsman’s Club and Dom Pulski. He was an avid hunter and fisherman that loved old “classic” movies. Wayne is preceded in death by a sister Kathe Joslyn and brother George Smith.

He is survived by his daughter Patience Smith of WA; sisters Cherol (Gene) Shoup; Marge (Richard) Downs; Madeline Smith; brother Edward (Sue) Smith all of Perry; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday July 23, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St. Perry, NY 14530. Funeral Services will follow calling hours at 4:00 PM on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery; Silver Springs.
