SGT. SHAINA B. SCHMIGEL - Age 21, 82nd Airborne Paratrooper who died Friday evening May 30, 2014 in a training exercise at Fort Bragg, NC, will be welcomed home Monday June 9 to be laid to rest. She was born October 18, 1992 in Batavia, NY to Karie Schmigel of Medina and Kim (Debbie) Dexter of Missouri.

   Shaina was a 2010 graduate of Medina High School where she was very involved in school activities including track, cheerleading and winterguard. After graduation she enlisted in the United States Army to follow her dream of being a soldier. She began as a Military Intelligence Analyst and attended basic combat training at Fort Jackson, SC followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Upon completion of her Military Intelligence training, SGT Schmigel attended the United States Army Airborne School in May of 2011 becoming a proud member of the Airborne community.

   SGT Schmigels first assignment was to Bravo Company, 2D Brigade Special Troops Battalion where she served as an Intelligence Analyst and a Signal Intelligence Analyst. She deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2011 in support of Operation New Dawn where she was instrumental in providing the Brigade Commander with real time situational awareness on the enemy during stressful combat conditions.

   Upon return from Iraq SGT Schmigel was assigned to HHC, 37th Engineer Battalion, where she participated in one rotation to the Joint Readiness Training Center and several Brigade and Battalion level training exercises. SGT Schmigel had also attended the Warrior Leaders Course.

   Her awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with one Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.

   She enjoyed video games, camping at Watkins Glen for the annual Nascar race, country line dancing and weekends in North Carolina were for her passion, Rodeo!

   Surviving along with her parents are her sister, Sheniqua Samol of Medina; brother, Matthew Scroger of Lackawanna; half-sisters, Amanda, Kaycee & Samantha Dexter; maternal grandparents, Donald K. (Susan) Schmigel Sr. of Corfu; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Quackenbush of LA; paternal great-grandmother Nora Steele of Oakfield; uncle, Donald K. (Jennifer Zynda) Schmigel Jr. of Corfu; many dear friends along with her military family in North Carolina.

   Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday June 10, 2014 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Shaina's Life will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 11, 2014. She will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu, New York. Memorials can be made in care of Shaina's family to be used for a future donation in her memory.

Bethany - Edward Ronald Maliszewski, 60, of Bethany, passed away Thursday, (June 5, 2014) at his home, under the care of his family and HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Maliszewski was born June 11, 1953 in Batavia, a son of the late Edward and Mary (Rutkowski) Maliszewski.

Ron was a graduate of Alexander Central School, and he earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Buffalo.  Following his formal education, he returned to Bethany where he operated the Maliszewski Farms until 1986. 

After selling the farm, Ron began building houses for many years; including his own.  After leaving the construction business, he attended BOCES and began working for Brach's Machines in Batavia and was a foreman at B&B Precision in Avon.

Finally, he began working as a developmental aide at the WNYDDSO Group Home in Batavia, where he retired after 10 years of service. 

Mr. Maliszewski was an avid Red Sox and Buffalo Bills fan.  He greatly enjoyed playing fantasy football as well as Euchre. 

Ron was a member of the Northgate Free Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout.  He will be remembered for his love of life and people; especially his family. 

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda (Reisdorf) Maliszewski.  The two were married July 4, 1982.

Along with his wife, Ron is survived by his step-sons; Jason Clough of East Amherst, and William (Laurie) Clough of Simpsonville, SC; his grandchildren, Danielle (Steve) Dispenza of Batavia, Pfc. William Clough, Sara Clough, and Emily Clough all of Simpsonville, SC; two great-grandchildren, Dominick and Julianna Dispenza both of Batavia; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Reisdorf of East Concord, Lolette (Jim) Hittle of Alexander, Ellen (Mike) MacArthur of Conesus, and Ann (Bob) Rugnetta of Spring Hill, FL.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

He is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Kathleen Clough, who passed away in 2001 and his brother in law, Bob Reisdorf.  

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 5 at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  Ron’s Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, (June 9, 2014) at Northgate Free Methodist Church (North Campus), 8160 Bank Street Road, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

Wellsville ~ Thomas J. McGee Jr., age 64, formerly of LeRoy, passed away early Thursday morning (June 5, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

     Mr. McGee was born May 15, 1950 in Batavia, N.Y., a son of the late Thomas and Rose Iannello McGee Sr.

     He lived in Wellsville, N.Y., where he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a past little league coach.  He was known for his friendly, dedicated service and good sense of humor as proprietor of Express Food Mart in Alfred, N.Y.  He enjoyed time with his family, the outdoors,  history, old movies, and the NY Yankees and the Buffalo Bills.

     Mr. McGee is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Wood McGee; his sons, Michael (Tiffany) McGee of Goodyear, AZ, Mark McGee of Wellsville and Brian McGee of Wellsville; his grandchildren, Joshua, Emily and Logan; his brothers, James McGee of Batavia and Gerald McGee of Hamlin; his sisters, Elizabeth (James) Kerwin of LeRoy and Jane Green of Corfu, along with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

     Family and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass on Monday, June 9 at 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 17 Maple Ave., Wellsville, N.Y.  Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.

Gasper S. “Sam” Ziccardi, 90, of Batavia passed away on Thursday June 5, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center.  He was born on September 5, 1923 in Batavia to the late Daniel and Frances (Baudanza) Ziccardi. Mr. Ziccardi was a member of Resurrection Parish, and the Oakfield Rod and Gun Club. He was retired from the former Doehler Jarvis in Batavia where he worked for over 40 years as a Chief Union Stewart and also worked at Batavia Downs for 32 years.  Gasper was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He loved gardening and growing his garlic.  Most of all he enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine A. (Cino) Ziccardi in 2001, son James Ziccardi and a brother Adam A. Ziccardi.

Gasper is survived by his children Daniel (Judith) Ziccardi of LeRoy, Kathy (Robert) Dorman of Batavia, daughter-in-law Donna Ziccardi of Waterloo; brother Peter Ziccardi and sisters Mary Ann DiFalco of Batavia, Angela Dioguardi of Ohio; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.  

Friends are invited to call on Sunday June 8, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia New York 14020. Prayers will be recited on Monday June 9, 2014 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia New York. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia.

VINCENT E. HEINEMAN Age 71, of Oakfield died Wednesday afternoon June 4, 2014 at Crossroads House. He was born August 2, 1943 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Millard & Helen (Gilhooly) Heineman, also preceded in death by siblings, William, James and Kenneth Heineman.

   Mr. Heineman was a heavy equipment operator for 37 years with the New York State Thruway Authority. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening and animals. His joy were his children and his loving wife who always came first and he made sure they were always provided for.

   Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Linda (Finkney) Heineman of Oakfield; son, Heath Heineman of Oakfield; daughter, Jennifer Heineman of Rochester; brothers, Gerard (late Pamela) Heineman of Corfu, Ernest (Gwen) Heineman of Ohio; sisters, Carol (Thomas) Spear of Denver, CO & Constance (Steve) Barry of Clarence along with many nieces and nephews.

VIRGINIA D. KRISTINE - Age 92, formerly of Batavia, died Tuesday June 3, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center in New Port Richey, FL. She was born November 14, 1921 in Albion, NY to the late Adam and Theresa (Evertowski) Daniels also preceded in death by her husband Matthew "Matty" in 2006; sisters, Frances Bielinski, Gertrude Kaniecki, Agnes Radzinski; brother-in-law, Joe Kristine and nephew, Kenneth Kaniecki.

   Virginia was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish and its Sodality, she worked for many years at GTE Sylvania until its closing and then at Eastman Kodak until her retirement. Virginia and Matty enjoyed attending Dinner Theatre's, she enjoyed bingo, playing cards and trips to casino's.

   She is survived by her loving niece, Nancy (Richard) Cina of Batavia; nephews, Roland (Frances) Bielinski of FL, Ronald (Pauline) and Daniel (Deborah) Radzinski and Roger (late Sue) Kaniecki; sister-in-law, Helen Doody and her children, Joe (Peg), Daniel (Linda), Gary (Patti) Doody and Debbie (Ron) Spiotta; sister-in-law, Mary (late Jeff) Jewell and her son, Tom (Kim) Jewell along with many great nieces and great nephews.

   Family and friends may visit from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 7, 2014 at the Michael S. Mary Ann (Pastecki) Fasano, 76, of Batavia, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning (June 3, 2014) at her residence with her children at her side after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Batavia on August 26, 1937, a daughter of the late Anthony and Elizabeth Sikorski Pastecki.

Mary Ann was employed by New York Telephone Co., Palace of Sweets and the Cornell Cooperative Extension and most recently with Walmart in Batavia as a cashier for fifteen years.  She was also a member of Resurrection Parish.  Mary Ann enjoyed gardening around her home and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Michael Fasano III of Batavia and daughter, Maria (Darryle) Streeter of Batavia. Beloved grandchildren, Julia Streeter and Benjamin Streeter of Batavia.  Brothers, David (Marilyn) Pastecki of Batavia and Peter (Kathy) Pastecki of Hilton. Special niece, Geri (Joseph) Graff of Batavia.  Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by a sister, Christine Pastecki.

There will be no prior visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 9:00AM, at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main St., Batavia.  Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to St. Joseph School, 2 Summit St., Batavia, NY 14020.

HELEN KRZEWINSKI Age 89, of Batavia, formerly of LeRoy died peacefully Monday evening June 2, 2014 at the Batavia HealthCare Center. She was born May 20, 1925 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Boguslaw & Mary (Jankowski) Krzewinski, also preceded in death by brothers, Stanley, Matthew, Richard; sisters, Irene Gillette, Ryta Brownell and niece, Jane Dejaneiro.

   Helen worked for NY Telephone for many years finally retiring from AT&T. She loved to travel, dance, enjoyed trips to the casinos, gardening, flowers and her dog, Buttons.

   She is survived by many nieces and nephews including, Gary (Maryann) Brownell of NM, Richard (Kathryn) Krzewinski of LeRoy, Anne (Daniel) Feeley of Stafford, Margaret Krzewinski of LeRoy, Amy Krzewinski of Webster, Charlotte (William) Gillette of Corfu and Geraldine Saunders of Oneonta; her caregiver of many years, Sarah Flint of Caledonia along with many great nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews.

Ronald L. Sanders, 51, of Waterport  passed away on Friday May 30,  2014 at Highland Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his family.  He was born January 21, 1963 in Lockport.    Ron was a member of the East Shelby Community Bible Church in Medina. He enjoyed genealogy, camping and the mountains, garage sales, collecting movies and music. Ron coached baseball for several years. He was a loving, caring husband and father. He treated his wife like the most important person in the world for 20 years.        

Ron is survived by his beloved wife Deborah L.A. (Hale) Sanders of Waterport; children Sarah and Veronica Sanders of Waterport; Joseph (Audrey Woodruff) Sanders of Medina; Gregory (Amanda) Narburgh of Oakfield; Maranda (Michael) Jackson of Batavia; grandchildren Lorelei and Madison Sanders; Greg Jr., Logan and Landon Narburgh; Joseph Danser, Adriana Boyki, and Amanda Jackson; great-grandson Aidan Morgan.

 A 4:00 PM Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday June 8, 2014 at East Shelby Community Bible Church 5278 East Shelby Road Medina, NY 14103. There will be a light reception to follow.

EDWARD A. EHMAN Age 71, a resident of the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia died peacefully Sunday afternoon June 1, 2014. Ed was born November 27, 1942 in Salamanca, NY, a son of Arnold & Evelyn (Hanson) Ehman, also preceded in death by his son, Fred Korhummel and daughter, Ann Korhummel.

Ed served our country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Surviving is his loving wife of 33 years, Margaret (Tabone) Ehman of Clarence; children Edward C. (Angela) Ehman, Michael Ehman, Dawn Ehman, April Ehman all of Syracuse, Janice (Michael) Curatolo of East Amherst and Lisa (Brian) Bauer of Lancaster; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kyler, EJ, Callen, Christian, Grace, Kaylie, Cole and Freddie along with many nieces and nephews.

The family will Celebrate a private funeral mass at the Veterans Home and memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice in his honor.
