Barbara R. Kern

Barbara R. Kern, 86, of Basom, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on Monday, February 14, 2022.

Barb was born May 15, 1935, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Jacob and Helen Blish Klotzbach.

Barb was a longtime member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church and the church organist for 60 years. She was a member of the Apostles Class and sang in the church choir. Music was a very important part of Barb’s life. She taught piano lessons for many years and at one time had 15 students under her calming guidance. When she wasn’t busy with her church activities and her piano students, Barb helped out at Kern’s Farm Market. She was very dedicated to the family farm. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and bowling. Barb was a devoted Christian and loved her grandchildren dearly.

Barb is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ronald M. Kern; her sons, Scott (Karla) Kern and Gregory (Deborah) Kern; 5 grandchildren, Jackie (Josh) Kurcoba, Ronda Marie Kern, Stefanie (Ben) Kitanik, Andrew Kern and Jeremy Kern; one great grandson, Jack Kitanik; her brothers, Lawrence (Linda) Klotzbach and Keith (late Helen) Klotzbach. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends may call Friday, February 18, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Alleghany Road, Corfu, NY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Indian Falls Cemetery, Indian Falls, NY.
