Donald E. “Butch” Waters

By Lisa Ace

Donald E. “Butch” Waters, 93, of Medina, entered into rest on Friday, November 25, 2022.

Born on May 26, 1929 in the Town of Ridgeway, Butch was a son of the late Valentine F. and Marion E. (Smith) Waters. He married the love of his life, the former Dorothy E. McKee in December of 1957. Being one of thirteen children, Butch left school early to help on the family farm. He went on to work for US Gypsum Co. in Oakfield and then for FMC in Middleport. While working, he still managed to work on the family dairy farm and in 1966 he purchased the farm and continued to farm it for many years. Butch also owned the Hilltop Restaurant in Middleport and helped to build Kennedy Brothers in Medina. A motorcycle enthusiast, Butch was a past member of the Crusaders Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, watching old westerns, was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and especially enjoyed buying, selling and bartering with others.

A jack of all trades, Butch was also a skilled carpenter and mechanic. In 1988 he went to work with his son at Waters Auto Body, where he was a tow truck driver and mechanic. Working up until the age of 93, just two days before his passing, Butch was the hardest working man many had ever met. A true testament of the work ethic and true grit of those of his generation.

Butch was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy E. Waters in 2014; son, Kim “Muddy” Waters in 2012; and 11 siblings, Dorothy (Ivan) Strickland, Virginia (Charles) Carpenter, Lois (Richard) Deyarmin, Joyce (Ernest) Oliver, Ione (Fred) DiMarino, Beverly Quackenbush, Norman Waters, Lawrence Waters, Raymond (Audrey) Waters, Valentine “Buddy” Waters and Gary Waters; brother in-law, Robert Elmer.

Survivors include his children, Sandra (Michael) Diehl, Penny (Steven) Stallcup, Donald (MaryAnn) Waters, Angela (Timothy) Frasier and David (Rhonda) Waters; daughter in-law, Barbara Waters; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Elmer; sister in-law, Nancy Waters; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 30 from 3-7PM at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Private interment will be in Bates Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Crusaders Motorcycle Club, 3312 Culvert Rd., Medina, NY 14103. Share condolences at www.cooperfuneralhome.com
