PATRICK J. CORONA, SR.

PATRICK J. "TYKE" CORONA, SR.

   Age 80, of Batavia, died peacefully under comfort care on Saturday October 31 at United Memorial Medical Center with his beloved wife at his side. He was born in Batavia on January 13, 1935, to the late Joseph and Lucy (DiSalvo) Corona, Sr., also preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Corona and sister, Joan (late Nathan) Mancuso.

   Mr. Corona was a United States Army Veteran, serving with the military police and Armored Cavalry. He was a lifelong member of Ascension Parish (formerly St. Anthony's), the American Legion and Life Member of the former St. Nicholas Club. Pat was a retired Captain with New York State Correctional Services, having worked in various facilities throughout the state until his retirement from the Albion Correctional Facility. He was a active member of the prison union, served as a VP and was well respected by his peers in the system. During the last 2 years he battled his illness with so much grace and dignity, never letting his struggle show, his wife, children and grandchildren supporting him every step, branding him, "Tyke Tough." Pat lead by example with his family, his country, his faith and his will to be remembered fondly by all who knew him. To his wife, he was by her side for 59 years, to his children, he was so proud of their accomplishments and to his grandchildren, any want, advice or love, simply "Ask Boppie." Tyke was known to his family as "dog whisperer" and loved many canine friends including Mickey, Minnie, Maddie and Maury.

   Surviving is his adoring wife, Norma Jean (Kogle) Corona of Batavia; his loving  children, Roxanne Corona-Redmond of Chili and her children, Kieran, Caitlyn (Anthony) Culotta and Kelley; Patrick J. (Barbara) Corona, Jr. of Batavia and their children, Christopher and Jonathan; Jody (James) Turcer of Alexander and their children, Courtney, Travis and Chelsea; brother, Joseph (Joan) Corona of Darien; sister, Florence (Nicholas) Pascucci of LeRoy; sister-in-law, Carol Corona-Wiley of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

   Pat's family invites all to celebrate his mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday November 4 at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart) at 11:00am.. He will be entombed in the Father T. Bernard Kelly Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery with full military honors.
