Robert W. (Bob) Clark

Robert W. (Bob) Clark, 70, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Ann's Community-Leo Center for Caring in Rochester.

He was born on Sept. 17,1943 in Batavia, the son of the late William R. and Delores I. (Pixley) Clark.

He was an Army veteran and worked over 30 years at the former Genesee Parts Supply in Batavia. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling and horseshoes and was a member of various teams throughout the area. Bob was an avid NY Mets fan and loved the Batavia Muckdogs. In later years his passion was playing horseshoes and enjoyed going to and participating in various tournaments throughout the area.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard C. Clark.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie Clark, of Rochester, and a brother, L. Brian (Sandi) Clark, of Batavia. In addition, there are nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There are no prior calling hours. Interment will be private.

GERTRUDE M. SCHAD

ELBA - Gertrude M. Schad, 88, of Elba passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (April 22, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Feb. 13, 2926 in Michigan, a daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Kelly) Schad.

Gertrude graduated from Alexander Central School and Nursing School. She was a registered nurse and anesthesiologist for more than 33 years, working at Rochester General, Highland Hospital and Willcare.

She was very active in Elba Ladies Auxiliary, loved to travel, bowl and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Ms. Schad was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Paul and John Schad, one sister, June; a great-grandson, Michael C. Schad and her longtime friend, Charles Allen.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Karen) Schad of Elba; grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Schad of Elba; great-granddaughter, Haylee Breemes of Elba; two sisters, Catherine Schad of Albion and Patricia Wright of Batavia; niece, Rebecca (late Joseph) Valentine of Albion and several great nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Her calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at H.E. Turner & Company Inc. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.

John Ralph Sanders

East Bethany - John Ralph Sanders, 75, of East Bethany, passed on Thursday (April 24, 2014) at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.

Mr. Sanders was born February 3, 1939 in Batavia, a son of the late Ralph E. and Ruth (Torrey) Sanders.

John was a lifelong Bethany farmer, having retired from LorRob Farm in 2014.  John served on the Bethany Town Zoning Board of Appeals and was a trustee and moderator of the official board at the West Bethany Baptist Church.  He was a 1957 graduate of Alexander School.   John was known for his infectious laugh and generous spirit. 

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Linda (Roth) Warner Sanders; six children, David (Dale) Warner of Rochester, Tammy (Vincent) Foster of Attica, Penny (Mark) Riekstins of S.A., Australia, Shelley (Greg) Shultz of Camden, NY, Mary Jane (Dr. William) Coles of St. Croix, V.I. and Darcy (James) Slusser of Silver Springs; a sister, Alice (Richard) Good of Hurst, TX, mother-in-law, Jane Howard of LeRoy, several grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and special friends Steve Breckenridge and Roland Cox. 

He is predeceased by an infant brother, Jerry Lee, a brother Charles and a sister Jean Sanders Surratt.  

Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the West Bethany Baptist Church, 10333 West Bethany Road, East Bethany.  Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery.  At the conclusion of the services on Saturday, the reception will be held at the West Bethany Baptist Church.

Ruth E. Halsey

Ruth E. Halsey, 96, of Perry died on April 22, 2014 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.  She was born  July 1, 1917 in Warsaw, New York to the late Leslie (Jessie) Wilklow. 

Ruth was a graduate of Warsaw High School.  She and her husband owned and operated Lake Road Farm Products and Larry’s Barbeque in Horseheads, NY from 1952-1968.  She also worked at Bailey’s Sewing Center in Perry for 7 years.  Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center, Perry Senior Social Club and Council of Rural Woman.

Along with her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence who died in 1968, a daughter Diane Stedge, a brother Carol Wilklow, and sisters; Lucille Scholes and Esther Jamowicz.

Ruth is survived by two sons; David Halsey of Castile and Richard Halsey of Rochester, two grandchildren; Martin Stedge and Nancy Burd, two great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 1:00PM at Grace Cemetery in Castile.

Marjorie W. Alden

Marjorie W. Alden, age 86, of Warsaw formerly of Perry, died on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing. She was born in Hume, New York on April 21, 1928 a daughter of the late Claude (Laura Miller) Webster. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray Alden who died in 1995 and a brother Beverly Webster.

Marjorie worked for M & T Bank in Perry for many years before her retirement. She was active in the Perry Alumni Association, and Order of the Eastern Star in Perry. She enjoyed doing number puzzles, crocheting, embroidery, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by siblings: Leah Thater of LeRoy, Arlene Culbertson of Lima, Merle (Sharon) Webster of Perry and Graydon (Judy) Webster of Perry, a sister-in-law: Lolly Webster of Southern Pines, NC., along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Rose Marie Pillo

Rose Marie Pillo, 81 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born on August 23, 1932 in Batavia to the late Philip (Rose Sanfratello) Pillo. She is preceded in death by a brother Philip Pillo Jr. and sister-in-law Margaret Pillo.

Ms. Pillo worked at Genesee Lumber for 40 years. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church, the Holy Name Society, Altar and Rosary Society and St. Nicholas Society.

Rose Marie is survived by two brothers Angelo (Shelia) Pillo of Byron; Carl Pillo of Batavia, along with several nieces and nephews.

Anthony J. Pries

Anthony J. Pries, age 25, of Perry died on Monday April 21, 2014 at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Thomas Scharet Sr. who died in 1992; Ernest Pries who died in 2001; aunt Sue Stewart and uncle Thomas Scharet Jr.

He was born in Warsaw. New York on July 27, 1988, a son of William and Joann (Scharet) Pries. Anthony was a graduate of Perry Central High School, he was currently a plumber for Mr. Rooter in Rochester, he had previously worked for the Pingrey and Parker farms, Letchworth State Park and delivered the Batavia Daily News as a child. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, working on vehicles and hanging out with friends and family.

He is survived by his parents: William and Joann (Scharet) Pries of Perry, a brother: Zack (Rachel Miller) Pries of Perry, a nephew: Matthew Joseph Pries, grandmothers: Isabel Pries of Warsaw and Bonnie (Carl) Wass of Warsaw, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to call from 10-11:00 AM on Friday April 25th at the Mt. Zion Tabernacle Church 5503 Broughton Rd. in Silver Springs, where services will follow at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Warsaw Cemetery.

Melvin R. Loder

Melvin R. Loder, 68 of Elba, passed away on Saturday April 19, 2014 at his home. He was born November 12, 1945 in Batavia to the late Adolph (Anna Mastin) Loder. He is preceded in death by his son Robert R. Loder.

Mr. Loder retired as an Instrument Maker at Eastman Kodak in Rochester and was a United States Navy Veteran. Melvin was a Jack of all trades and an extremely helpful neighbor. He was a pilot, HAM Radio operator, had his CDL, and lived to ride his four wheeler or motorcycle. Melvin was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the NRA, Bergen Rod & Gun Club, and took great pride in being a member in the Elba Fire Department. He could often be found discussing the world’s affairs at the Pok-A-Dot.

Melvin is survived by his beloved wife Linda L. (Greil) Loder of Elba and brother Ronald (Victoria) Loder.

Marjorie M. Bezon

Elba - Marjorie M. Bezon, 80, of Elba, passed away suddenly Friday, (April 18, 2014) in Elba.

Mrs. Bezon was born October 7, 1933 in Brockport, a daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Marone) Fischer, Sr.

Marjorie was a lifelong member of St. Padre Pio Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society.  She was an active member of the Elba Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing cards with her friends involved in the Elba Grange.  She greatly enjoyed spending time outside, working in her lawn and flower garden.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who would help anyone in need.  Her family was the most important thing in her life.  She will be missed by all who knew her.     

Mrs. Bezon is the wife of the late Stanley Bezon who passed away in 1990.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Frank (Bonnie) Bezon of Barre Center, Marylou (John) Townsend of Elba, and Daniel (Elizabeth) Bezon of Albion; grandchildren, Martin (Elizabeth) Bezon of Barre Center, Terrence (Jennifer) Bezon of Gates, Samantha Bezon of Barre Center, Daniel Townsend of Elba, Brennan (Jesse) Bezon of Corfu, Tiffany Bezon of Barre Center, and Nicholas (Tasha) Bezon of GA; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry (Charlotte) Fischer, Jr. of PA; and a sister, Shirley (Bill) Rowles of Albion.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive along with her beloved Jack Russell, Stosh.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Fischer and a sister, Betty (late Edward) Buczek.

Brian M. Kearns

Brian M. Kearns, 57 of Batavia, passed away on Friday April 18, 2014  at his residenceHe was born on August 18, 1956 in Batavia, a son of  the late Rolland and Aneila Lewandoski Kearns.

Mr. Kearns worked for PW Minor as a Warehouse Supervisor for 12 years.

Brian is survived by his wife Joanne H. Kearns of Batavia; Daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Thomas; Step-Son Jeremy Boyce; Brother, William Kearns; Sisters, Sharon Falcone, Suzanne Kearns, Barbara Mittelstadt; Grandchildren, Lillian and Andrew Thomas along with  many nieces and nephews.

TERESA RUSSO

TERESA RUSSO Age 90, of Batavia, died Sunday evening April 13, 2014 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. She was born November 26, 1923 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph & Rose (Buscaglia) Russo, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Alfieri and brother, Nunzio Russo.

     Ms. Russo was a local waitress at many area restaurants for over 60 years, a fan of OTB and up to the age of 88 she rode her bicycle as her main mode of transportation.

     Surviving is her loving brother, John (Betty) Russo of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

     There is no prior visitation, family & friends are invited to celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 26, 2014 at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph’s Site), 303 East Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. David Lee Ikeler

Mr. David Lee Ikeler, age 68, of Lansing, passed away Friday morning, April 11, 2014 at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. John Barichivich officiating with military rites.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 1-2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

He is preceded in death by a son; Danny Gunn, and two brothers; Frank Ikeler, Jr. and Dan Ikeler.

Mr. Ikeler is survived by his wife; Nancy DuBois Ikeler, one son; Derek Fleming and companion Ann of Deland, Florida, one daughter; Julie Barichivich and husband John of Warner Robins, Georgia, one brother; Fred Ikeler of Bliss, New York, two sisters; Barbara Stoffer and husband Carl of Gainesville, New York and Viola Henry of Palmyra, New York, three granddaughters; Jordan, Brittany, and Jessica Becker and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorothy E. Conway

Dorothy E. Conway, 92, of Attica died on April 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility.

Dot was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 6, 1921 to the late Thomas and Margaret Kennedy.  She married the late B. Joseph Conway on April 14, 1945, and moved to Attica thereafter.   The distance between Attica and her “Kentucky home” never interfered with her close relationship with her family, including her five siblings; Margaret Hartell (deceased), Mary Sills (deceased), Thomas J. Kennedy (deceased), Rose Renn, and Julia Goss.

For Dot, family was a paramount.  She loved spending time with her children, Jeanne (Albert) Beck, Joan Puccio, James (Conni) Conway, Joseph Conway, grandchildren; Richard (Debra) Puccio, Patrick (Candice) Puccio, Jennifer Schwartzott (Marvin Muller), Ryan (Amber) Conway, Erin Conway, Meghan Conway,  and great-grandchildren; Allison, Joseph, Ashyln, Aubrey Puccio, Mary, Maxwell Muller, Braden , and Shaelyn Conway, and they loved spending time with her.

To know Dot, was to lover her.  She “never met a stranger,” and made a positive, wonderful impression on everyone she met.  Dot was also a life-long sports fan, and could confidently recite the New York Yankees line-up on any given day.

Mrs. Conway was a long standing member of St. Vincent’s Parish in Attica, and was very proud that she was able to live long enough to see all eight of her great-grandchildren baptized.  She was also very proud of her Irish heritage, and was known to speak out an Irish blessing at family gatherings.

In addition to her children, and great-great grandchildren, Dot will be forever missed by countless nieces and nephews from Massachusetts to Kentucky.

Friends and family may call from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Easter Sunday at Marley Funeral Home in Attica.  The Funeral Service will be held at St. Joachim and Anne in Attica on Monday, April 21 at 10:30AM.  She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent's Cemetery in Attica.

Louis J. Gayton

Louis J. Gayton, age 75 of Batavia, New York died on Monday April 14, 2014 at his home in Batavia. He was born in Warsaw, New York on July 26, 1938 a son of the late Howard J. and Claribel Flohr Gayton.

Mr. Gayton worked for Trojan Industries in Batavia from 1960-1991, was the former Town Highway Superintendent for the Town of Bethany from 1992-2001, was currently holding the position of Town of Bethany Supervisor since 2005 and was a self employed electrician. He was a member of the Bethany Fire Department for over 50 years, he was on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross (Batavia Chapter) and was a state fire instructor. He enjoyed writing computer programs for area highway departments, hunting, fishing, camping and watching his grandchildren at their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife whom he married on June 15, 1985 Virginia Campbell Gayton, 5 daughters: Darla of NJ, Karen (David) Grice of Andover , Barbara (Thomas) Czworka of East Bethany, Brenda (Mark) Roller of Alliance, Ohio, and Melody (Ed Fryer) Heale of Batavia, 4 sons: Kim of NJ, James Heale of Hartford, CT., Victor (Malaine) Heale of Colorado Springs, Co., Gordon (Jeanne) Heale of Bergen and Mark Heale of Batavia , a sister: Doris Krauss of Perry, 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, along with many nieces and nephews.

Viola A. DeSalvo

Viola A. DeSalvo, 76, of Batavia passed away on Monday April 14, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Buffalo to the late Susan E. Cratsenburg.  Mrs. DeSalvo worked for many years as a seamstress for Angelica Health Care Services in Batavia.  She enjoyed doing puzzles, walks with her son and loved having lunch with friends at the Salvation Army Church.  Viola loved her family very much and loved spending time with them. 

Mrs. DeSalvo is preceded in death by her husband Thomas DeSalvo, sons John (Butch) Wolcott and Kim Wolcott, Grandson Andrew Wolcott and Great-grandson Shawn Wolcott. 

Viola is survived by her daughter Tammy (Joseph) Cicatello of Batavia; Son’s Thomas (Pattie) DeSalvo of Batavia and Thomas (Mary) DeSalvo of Dansville, Millie Wolcott former wife of John Wolcott and chosen daughter of Viola; Step-daughters Toni DeSalvo of Mt. Morris and Patty DeSalvo of Rochester; many brothers and sisters; grandson Cristian J. DeSalvo; granddaughters Leah Cargill and Joelynn Cicatello along with 33 other grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday April 17, 2014 from 3-7 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia New York 1420.
 
An 11:00AM Funeral Service will be held on Friday April 18, 2014 at the funeral home.   Entombment will take place at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia.
