James Edward Soggs Sr., 78, died Monday December 29, 2014 in Batavia. James was the son of the late Marvin and Elizabeth Soggs. He was born May 22, 1936 in Saltville,Virginia. He is preceded in death by two sisters Mrs. Jennie Eva Worley, Mrs. Kathleen Austin; three brothers Roscoe Soggs, Marvin Soggs and George Patterson.

James and his two brothers came to Batavia to work at the US Gypsum in Oakfield. He settled in Batavia where he raised his family. James was professional truck driver for 33 years, retiring from Emerson Express in 1997. James was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

James is survived by his loving wife Onie Ruth Soggs; sons David (Ellie) Soggs of Buffalo, James E. Soggs Jr. of Batavia; two step sons Robert Burney of TX, Tom (Jackie) Burney of FL; daughters Lisa Soggs of Buffalo, Cynthia (Robert) Thurston of Batavia; step daughter Cassandra Burney of GA; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

LeRoy ~ Oliver P. Cooper Jr., age 91, of Genesee Street, passed away Sunday afternoon (Dec. 28, 2014) at the home of his son, surrounded by his loving family.

     Mr. Cooper was born December 26, 1923 in Henrietta, N.Y., a son of the late Oliver and Alice Burns Cooper Sr.

     He was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who supported and attended all of his children's and grandchildren's events.  He was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during WW II, earning the good conduct medal and the Bronze Star.  He was a member of the LeRoy American Legion and was an avid golfer.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Grace Ingalls Cooper, a son, Ricky (Laurie) Cooper of Stafford; grandchildren, Denny (Shannon) Yauchzee, Ricky (Kelly) Cooper, Amy Cooper, Abbey (Dave) Cooper Wilson, Katie (Bill) Bogan, Larry (Sarah) Mclaughlin, Luke Yauchzee and Gavin Yauchzee; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Tommy and Scott Cooper, Hanna and Brooklyn Wilson, Taylor and Cole Yauchzee, Will and John Bogan; great-great-grandchild, Chloe Parker; sister, Betty (Connie) Snyder of LeRoy, sister-in-law, Janice Cooper of LeRoy, along with several nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Cooper was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Yauchzee; his brothers, Franklin Cooper, John, Walter "Bea" and Stanley Unamen and his sisters, Harriett Huntley and Arleen Ingalls.

     Family and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 1:00 P.M. at the LeRoy United Methodist Church, 10 Trigon Pk.  Interment in Machpelah Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Veterans Outreach Center Inc., 459 South Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14620

Ann L. Pirro, 98, of Batavia passed away Sunday December 28, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on August 6, 1916 in Lawrence, MA to the late Angelo (Lucia Pappalardo) Borzi. She is preceded in death by her husband Norfe J. Pirro; sons Salvatore J. Pirro, Thomas D. Pirro and her brother Tony Borzi.

Ann worked as a Maternity Nurse’s Aide at St. Jerome’s Hospital prior to retirement. She was a member of Ascension Parish and Focal Point Member. Ann enjoyed her time at St. Elizabeth Gardens in Florida, crocheting, ceramics, and playing bingo.  She was an excellent cook, and loved shopping for gifts for her family.

Ann is survived by her children Lucy A. Pirro of Corona, CA; David N. (Donna) Pirro of Eustis, FL; Diane L. Calarco of Pompano Beach, FL; Mark S. Pirro of Van Nuys, CA; sisters Mary Meleca of Batavia; Josephine (Jack) Gianni of FL, Rose Marie Borzi of MA; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy ~ Maureen A. Weatherbee, age 65, of Genesee Street, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon (Dec. 25, 2014).

   

  Mrs. Weatherbee was born February 16, 1950 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John and Betty Tiffany Moynihan.

     She will be remembered as a loving wife and caring person, who loved people.

     She is survived by her husband of 20 years, William G. Weatherbee; her sons, Gary (Denise) Guiste of Batavia and Patrick (Bethany) Guiste of Batavia; a stepson, Raymond Weatherbee of TX; her sister, Liz (Fritz) Rowsick of Bergen; 5 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

LeRoy ~ Eveline Aron lost her battle with life and was able to leave this world peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014. 

  

   Eveline started her life as the youngest child of Amalie and Julius Hilfriech, antique dealers in Berlin, Germany.  Her 3 sisters and 1 brother had the responsibility of raising Eveline after she was orphaned at an early age.  As a Jew in Berlin during the rise of the Nazi party, Eveline was sent to a boarding school in the country to protect her from persecution.  It was there that Eveline met and married the love of her life, Henry.  Eveline was able to escape to Britain on the last train out of Germany before the Nazis closed the borders in 1939.  While in Britain, Eveline worked in factories to aid the war effort against the Nazis.  This included restoring crashed Spitfire fighter planes. 

     Eveline, Henry and daughter, Jeanette (Jan) were able to immigrate to the United States in 1948, the first available date due to U.S. immigration quotas.  In the U.S., Eveline first started working as a clerk in a dress shop and then in a drug store, and then prior to retirement, a Librarian at Cornell University.

     Eveline was predeceased by the love of her life for 53 years, Henry, in 1991.  She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Dana) Shaw, her son, Gerry (Joyce) Aron; five grandchildren, Laura (Brian) McGinley, Jeffrey (Beth) Shaw, Sarah (Jim) Flanary, Jennifer (Eric) Heywood Houck and Justin (Lisa) Heywood; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson on the way.

     There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the LeRoy Historical Society or the YWCA of Batavia.

Batavia ~ Samuel J. Caito, age 89, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 2014) at Rochester General Hospital.

     Mr. Caito was born December 26, 1925 in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Augustino A. Caito and Anna Sansone.

     He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Rosemary Watkins; six children; Paul J.

Caito of Rochester, Mary Eileen Caito of Amherst, Karen M. Stevens of Corning, Patrice M. Caito of Rochester, Michael D. (Donna) Caito of Rochester and Catherine M. Caito of Batavia; grandfather of  Alyson Caito, Andrew Caito, Patrick Caito Stevens, Haley Caito and Megan Caito Stevens; brother-in-law of Joan (Frank) Gerace of Somerset, NJ, Henry L. Zugger of Tonawanda, Sr. Patricia Watkins, GNSH of Yardley, PA and Paul (Joan) Watkins of Amherst.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Caito was a 1943 graduate of Batavia High School and a 1950 graduate of Canisius College.  He was a longtime businessman in the Batavia area as the owner of Caito's Liquor Store, which was begun by  his father at the end of Prohibition in 1933.  He retired from the liquor store in 1985.  He was also a Science teacher beginning at Notre Dame High School from 1960 - 1968 and then at Batavia Middle School from 1968 until he retired in 1986.  Between 1962-1966, he returned to Canisius college and earned an MS Ed. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Math.

     He was a life-long member of St. Mary's Church, Msgr. Kirby Council Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Batavia Rotary Club and the American Chemical Society.

     The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Village Green Nursing Home in LeRoy for the loving care they extended to him over the past year and to the staff at the second floor ICU and the fourth floor medical staff at Rochester General Hospital for their compassionate care of the past two weeks.

     Family and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 12:00 PM at Resurrection Parish, St. Mary's Church Site, 18 Ellicott St., Batavia.  Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Darlene Victoria (Zito) Barrett of Arlington Texas passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the age of 61 at Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth,Tx after her courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her Loving family. She was born in Batavia New York daughter of the late Frank (Marion) Zito and June Shirley (Donnelly) Zito. Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Frankie Zito, her nephew Gary “G.Z.” Zito. She is survived by her husband Bobby Barrett, daughter Fara (Jason) Keller, son Bobby Joe and his girlfriend Leslie Wickliffe along with her beloved grandchildren Ashlyn, Britlyn, Cooper, Dylan, Camryn and Greysen. Brothers Kevin (Alice) Zito of Wyoming, New York, Gary ( Becky) Zito of Everson, Pennsylvania, Calvin  (Carlotta) Zito of Boise, Idaho and sister Charlene Shope of Arlington, Texas and Many nieces and nephews. FRANCES L. "FRAN" HORZEMPA - 78, of Elba, died Saturday evening December 20, 2014 at Crossroads House in Batavia. She was born January 21, 1936 in Oakfield, NY to the late John and Frances (McMahon) Allyn, also preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Hank" Horzempa; son, Michael G. Horzempa; brothers, Daniel, Douglas, Lyle, Carl, James and Lee Allyn; sisters, Evelyn, Mary & Fern Allyn.

      Surviving are her loving children, Mary E. Webster of Elba and Major James J. Horzempa, USMC, Retired; 7 grandchildren, Joseph (Wendy) Webster, David (Katie) Webster, Julie (Thomas Klycek) Webster, Anne (Tony) Hutchinson, Michael (Matt) Horzempa, Maggie & Anna Horzempa; 3 great-grandchildren, David, Theresa Webster & Madison Hutchinson; very special niece, Judy Allyn; special nephew, Carl Foust along with several nieces and nephews.

Pamela J.  Frisby, 65, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 24, 2014 after 1 ½ year long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on January 11, 1949 in Batavia to the late Donald J. (Dorthy) Little and to the late Phyllis Wheatley.

Pamela was a payroll supervisor at Keeler Construction prior to retirement. She was a former member of the Quota Club, a prior member and president of the Batavia Marching Band, a former member and tour guide of the Genesee Country Village and Museum. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting, knitting, ghost hunting and most of all being a grandmother.  

She is survived by her children Jeff Frisby of Bethany and Marci (Jeff) Lear of Batavia; sisters Patricia (Mike) Fels of AZ, Deborah (Steve) Poje of AZ; step-brothers James (Kay) Jackett of TX, Ronald (Brenda) Jackett, Gene (Josie) Jackett, Allen (Donna) Jackett all of Batavia; granddaughters Katlyn Adair and Krista Lear along with many nieces, nephews and her constant companion Kaleigh, her ever faithful dog.

Lee R. Hendershott, 66 of East Bethany, died December 24, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 19, 1948 in Batavia to the late Laverne R. (Dorothy Dean) Hendershott. Lee is preceded in death by his brother Duane Hendershott.

Lee a retired assembler at American Axle and MFG in Buffalo. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 424 Buffalo & G.A.G. He enjoyed geneaology, local history, and building models. He had worked as a parts and service manager at various dealerships in the area and was an avid Chrysler and railroad fan.

He is survived by his wife Mildred (Clark) Hendershott; Sons Tracy and Matthew (Ellen) Hendershott; daughters Lori, Michelle and Marjie Hendershott; sisters Sandra (Paul) Oberlander and Sheila (John) Henderson; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Peter R. Corbelli, 80, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mr. Corbelli was born April 13, 1934 in Robertsdale, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Carlo and Dominica Tacca Corbelli.

A member and usher at Ascension Parish, Mr. Corbelli was a retiree from the Post Office in Batavia. Mr. Corbelli served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army.

An avid golfer and card player, he loved people and life. A devoted fan of the New York Yankees, he was a gifted athlete who played semi-pro football.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Burns Corbelli, whom he married December 30, 1961; two sons, Peter R. (Jennifer) Corbelli, Jr. of Batavia and Paul (Julie) Corbelli of LeRoy; four grandchildren;  Brianne Elizabeth Corbelli and Paul A. Corbelli, Jr., both of LeRoy,  Pierce Joseph Corbelli and Parker Aidan Corbelli, both of Batavia; four brothers, Bernard (Patricia) Corbelli of South Carolina, Santi (Rita) Corbelli of Harris Hill, Octavio (Lynn) Corbelli of Arizona and  Leo (Susan) Corbelli of Nevada; two sisters, Antoinette Martin of Missouri and Elizabeth Seeburg of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Antoinette Corbelli of Buffalo and Annette Corbelli of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother of the late John, Louis and Victor Corbelli and Mary Josephine Pilato.

Angelo J. Branciforte, 92, of Batavia passed away Tuesday December 23, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 8, 1922 in Mt. Morris to the late Michael and Rose (Gioia) Branciforte. He is preceded in death by his first wife Jane (Seymour) Branciforte; son Michael Branciforte; brothers Joseph, John and Michael Branciforte; sisters Josephine Rudgers, Theresa Barrows, Mary Gray, and Rose McMasters.

Angelo attended Suny Geneseo and Buffalo State. He earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degree. Mr. B. taught in Niagara Falls, the East School and Brooklyn School in Batavia and was the Principal at John Kennedy Elementary School from which he retired in 1990. He established and managed the Batavia school transportation system for 25 years. Mr. Branciforte also taught English and Citizenship for 25 years, helping to prepare immigrants for US Citizenship. He was a charter member of the Homemaker Service and the First Mental Health Association. Mr. Branciforte served as President and held many positions in the Batavia Teachers Association as well as the Genesee County Elementary Principals Association. During his free time he also served in the Paolo Busti Association and in the New York State Mental Health Association. Mr. Branciforte was an active Rotarian for 42 years and received the Paul Harris Award. With his children and grandchildren, he enjoyed his summers at Silver Lake, fishing, boating, and swimming. Mr. Branciforte also served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe in the 3^rd and 7^th Armies and ended his Army career as a Sergeant in the 271^st Combat Engineers in Austria. He volunteered for many organizations and advises that everyone should volunteer and give back to the community.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Cappelli) Branciforte of Batavia; sons Thomas (Sharon) Branciforte of  Clarkston, MI, John Branciforte of LeRoy, James (Theresa) Branciforte of LeRoy, Joel (Janet) Branciforte of Byron; daughter Elizabeth (Gerald) Seeley of East Greenbush; sister-in-law Mildred Branciforte; brother-in-law Robert Barrows; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Frank A. Spiotta, 75, of Batavia entered into peaceful rest on Sunday December 21, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. He was born on November 1, 1939 in Batavia to the late Michael (Virginia Lomanto) Spiotta.

Frank retired from United Parcel Service in 1999 as a delivery driver serving his customers for over 30 years. While employed by UPS, Frank was a member of the Teamsters Local 118 serving many years as the Local’s Union Steward.  He also worked part-time for over 30 years at Batavia Downs Raceway as a wager teller. He was also a former member of the St. Nicholas Social Club. In years past, Frank was an avid musician playing the saxophone while he was a member of a local band named “The Rockets.” He enjoyed games of chance and golfing with the guys. More recently he loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren. Above all else Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved  wife  of 30 years, Susan M. (Brick) Spiotta of Batavia, children Michael (Sandy) Spiotta of Rochester, Danielle (Jeremy) Pietrzykowski, Brooke (Scott Partridge) Baker, sister Frances (Richard) Tracy, grandchildren Paityn and Mariusz Pietrzykowski all of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

Joseph E. “Spike” Glaus Jr., 83, of Batavia, formerly of Cardinal Hill Varysburg, passed away December 13, 2014 at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia with his family by his side. He was born October 8, 1931 in Weathersfield to the late Joseph (Clara Schenko) Glaus Sr. He is preceded in death his loving wife Irene Glaus; daughter Jennifer Hirschberg; brother Robert Glaus and sister Ruth Glaus.

Joseph owned and operated Johnsonburg Construction for many years prior to his retirement. He served in combat in the Korean Conflict; receiving 2 bronze stars. Joseph attained the rank of SGT and was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge; he also loved to deer hunt, play cards and drink beer.

He is survived by his sons Joseph (Janette) Glaus III of Attica, Benjamin (Tisha) Glaus of Philo, CA; daughters Brenda (James) Buda of Rochester, Julie (Ben) Gallinaro of Canandaigua; son-in-law Alex Hirschberg of Davidson, NC; brother Ernest Glaus of Varysburg; sister Esther (Herman) Miller of North Java; grandchildren Allison Buda, Vanessa (Brendan) Newhart, Ashley Buda, Sarah Gallinaro, Meghan Hirschberg, Trevor Hirschberg, Zachery Glaus, Erin Glaus, Joseph Glaus IV, David Glaus and great granddaughter Emily Newhart.

Conesus / LeRoy ~  Ann M. Bachorski, age 80, of East Lake Road, formerly of LeRoy, passed away Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 16, 2014) at Rochester General Hospital.

     Mrs. Bachorski was born October 30, 1934 in LeRoy, a daughter of the late Joseph and Consuel Foriero Petracca.

     She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed working in her flower gardens and travelling.  She was a member of St. Matthew Church in Livonia, where she was very involved with church activities and was also a member of the garden club.

     Mrs. Bachorski is survived by her children, Connie Kemp of FL, Paula (Todd) Lokken of LeRoy, Susan (John) Loberg of TX, Chet (Maria) Bachorski of Rochester, Dyanne (Mike) Swick-Jones of NC, Joann (Tim) Collins of Livonia and Suzie Gall-Bachorski of LeRoy; grandchildren, Jason Kemp, Rebecca (Robert) Limmer, Jennifer (William) Clarke, Kelly (Christopher) Kapsales and Taylor Bachorski; great-grandchildren, Robert & Madeline Limmer and Emily & William Clarke; sister-in-law, Lorraine Patrick of MA; Louis Damico and many other friends.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Patrick.

      Family and friends may call on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 ~ 7 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Joseph's Oratory, 27 Lake St., LeRoy.  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.
