Jane A. Bushman

LeRoy ~ Jane A. Bushman, age 86, formerly of South Street Road, passed away Thursday (Feb. 12, 2015) at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

    

Mrs. Bushman was born February 17, 1928 in Pavilion, a daughter of the late Roger and Jenny Gill Wade.

     She was a long-time member of the LeRoy United Methodist Church and will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, who was hard working and dedicated to her family.

     She is survived by her son, David (Toni Jo) Bushman of LeRoy and her daughter, Mary Jane Montecalvo of Spencerport, special grandchildren, Kerri and Mike Montecalvo, along with 3 additional grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, William Bushman in 2000.

     Family and friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 21  from 1 ~ 3 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where her funeral service will be held at 3 PM.  Interment in Machpelah Cemetery will be private.

Francis J. "Frank" Mangefrida

FRANCIS J. “Frank” MANGEFRIDA  - age 78, of Le Roy, NY, died February 11, 2015, after a long illness.

   

  He was born July 21, 1936, in Pavilion, NY, to the late Philip Mangefrida and the late Vadis Rudgers. He was also predeceased by his stepmother, Vera, and by his granddaughter Andrea Mangefrida.

     Francis was a 1954 graduate of Le Roy High School. He entered the U.S.  Army and served with the Military Police Group, Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, Sandia Base,  Albuquerque, New Mexico.  After his service with the military, Francis began his 40-year career in broadcast radio. Starting as a board operator in Clovis, NM (KCLV), he went on to work as an on-air personality using the name Frank Davis. He also was an announcer in Erie, PA (WLEU), Utica, NY (WIBX), and Batavia, NY (WBTA). During his time at WBTA, Frank was best known for his afternoon shows, The Le Roy Show, which was broadcast live from downtown LeRoy, and his coverage of the 1971 Attica Prison Riot. Frank also served as master of ceremonies for many events in the Genesee County area.

     In addition to radio, Frank worked for the US Bureau of the Census serving as Regional Director for the 1980, 1990 and 2000 Censuses.  He also was active in the Genesee County Democratic Party and served as the Democratic Election Commissioner.

Frank had a passion for aviation and held his Private Pilot License. He was active with American Legion Botts-Fiorito Post 576 and St. Joseph’s Church.  He enjoyed time with his family and friends as well as being an avid Le Roy Oatkan Knights football fan.

     Surviving is his wife of 43 years Susan (Jackson) Mangefrida of Le Roy; devoted sons, John (Kim) Mangefrida and their children Ryan and Jordan of Le Roy; Michael (Cheryl) Mangefrida of Manassas, VA; Philip (Tina) Mangefrida and their children Molly and Anthony of Le Roy; brother Fred of Le Roy and his children Megan and Kevin Cantalupo and Paul and Katie Mangefrida; sisters Anne (John) Cook and their children Jarred and Jessie of York, PA; and Phyllis Mangefrida (Norman Tibbils) and their children Devon and Darren of Rochester along with many cousins, aunts, uncles.

     There will be no prior calling hours, but a celebration of Francis’s life will be held at a later time.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, Le Roy.

Joseph F. Jewett III

Joseph F. Jewett III, 68, of Batavia passed away Thursday February 12, 2015 at Leo Center for Caring in Rochester.  He was born May 28, 1946 in Buffalo to the late Joseph F. (Margaret Gorman) Jewett Jr.  Joseph is preceded in death by his son Jason M. Jewett.

Joe worked at O & K Trojan for 26 years.  He worked as an Assistant Manager at 7 Eleven in Oakfield, worked at TOPS Market in Alden, was a NYS Thru-Way toll collector, Melton Shirt Factory, 10 years at the Genesee County Park and was a bus driver in Oakfield.  Joe enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, bowling and golf. He coached Little League for 15 years and was a volunteer for the East Pembroke Fire Department.  He was a Boy Scout leader in East Pembroke and was the first person in this area to receive the Eagle Scout Award.

He is survived by his loving wife Joyce E. (Howard) Jewett of Batavia; sons Joseph (Arlene) Jewett IV of Attica and Jeffrey Jewett of Basom; daughter Jennifer (Ted) Elliott of Attica; sister Judith Baudoux of IN; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Ronald and sister-in-laws Gloria, Doris and Shirley.

Dr. John Tiong Hua Chua

John Tiong Hua Chua, died February 2, 2015.  He was born August 15, 1936 in Fukien Province, China, the son of Chua Kian an and Irena Tan.  The family moved to Manila, Philippines when he was a young child and he grew up in Manila.

John graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and completed a surgical residency at Taiwan Veterans General Hospital, Tai Pei, Formosa (January – December 1961) prior to coming to the U.S. on an exchange visa program to Cook County Hospital in Chicago.  He completed a one year rotating internship (July 1962-June 1963). 

Following his internship he moved to Jersey City, NJ for a residency in OB-GYN at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital from July 1963 – July 1966 and their exchange program with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Southeastern General Hospital in Lumberton, North Carolina (July 1966-June 1967).  During that period he was granted permanent US resident status.

After leaving North Carolina, Dr. Chua worked as a house physician at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.  At that time he was reclassified 1-A for the U.S. Army (during the Vietnam War).  He volunteered for the draft and was assigned to USMA Hospital at West Point.  He completed his basic training at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. 

During Dr. Chua’s two years at West Point he was promoted from Captain to Major and sworn in as a U.S. Citizen.  He also completed and passed his medical board exam in New York City.

On July 1, 1970 Dr. and Mrs. Chua moved to Batavia, NY and he joined Dr. Lawrence Roth and Dr. Louis E. Green in their OB-GYN practice.  He loved his patients and remained in practice until medically unable to continue, retiring in 2001.

Dr. Chua was a 44 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia and a past Deacon, Elder and Trustee.  He was a member of the Medical Societies of Genesee County and New York State and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He is a former member of the Batavia Kiwanis Club.

Dr. Chua is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Siemers Chua.  They met at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital and married September 12, 1964; his two sons, John Edwin (Kristi) Chua of Arizona and  David (Allison) Chua of Batavia; a daughter, Elizabeth (Eric) Raymond of Batavia; five grandsons, Sean and Patrick of Arizona, Kian an, Ross and Aden and one granddaughter, Stella June all of Batavia.

He is also survived by three brothers, David (Mary) Chua of New Jersey, Vicente Lim of Manila, Juanito (Felisa) Lim of Toronto and three sisters, Mary Zranchev of New Jersey, Leonora (Wong) Chair of Manila and Lydia Lim of Formosa.  Also, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Joshua and Kying Ghak and a brother-in-law, Lubomir Zranchev.  

There are no prior calling hours.  Dr. Chua’s Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 16th at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, 300 East Main Street, Batavia. A luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church at the conclusion of the Memorial Service.

Gertrude L. Geitner

Gertrude L. Geitner, 91, of Varysburg passed away peacefully Saturday February 7, 2015 at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. om  HShe was born November 12, 1923 in Warsaw to the late Albert (Louise Rodel) Rupp.  She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Geitner; brothers Albert, Robert, George and Walter Rupp.

Gertrude worked for Mallory Timers prior to retirement.  She was a member for 51 years of Vernon Chapter #611 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Buffalo Valley Grange in Java Village and she was a member of the Attica Baptist Church.

She is survived by children William (Lorrie) Geitner of Varysburg, Sharon Hill of Florida; brother Richard (Janice) Rupp; 5 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Frank DiPiazza

Frank DiPiazza, 76, of Rochester passed away Monday February 9, 2015 at West Gate Nursing Home. He was born December 7, 1938 in Batavia to the late Gasper (Mary LoCicero) DiPiazza. He is preceded in death by his sisters Annette Riganotti and Shirley Maniaci.

Frank loved to Tinker with Electronics.

He is survived by sister Connie (Giulio) LaMila of Batavia; brothers-in-law Frank Riganotti of Batavia, Leonardo Maniaci of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

RICHARD H. "GRUMP" GODLOVE

RICHARD H. "GRUMP" GODLOVE - age 78, of Stafford, NY died peacefully Saturday afternoon February 7, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 7, 1936 in Martinsburg, WV to the late Richard T. and Helen (Engle) Godlove; also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Godlove and sister, Dixie Godlove.

   Mr. Godlove was a truck driver for many years with various companies in the area. He was an avid racing fan, especially Dirt Track and Nascar, enjoyed playing his guitar and was quite the "practical joker." Most important to Dick was his family and the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce (Stringham) Godlove of Stafford; loving children, Richard W. (Wendy Fleig) Godlove of Caledonia, Terry (Paula) Godlove of FL, Randy (Jeannie) Godlove of Batavia, Wade (Di Dillon) Godlove of Stafford and foster-son, Alan (Tammy) Stevens of Bergen; brother, Gene (Deborah) Godlove of Bergen; brother-in-law, Dana (Diane) Stringham of Batavia; sister-in-law, Peggy (Roger) Heidenreich of OH; dear friends, Dave (Dora) Henry, Brenda Wetzel & Eldon Farrington; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Matthew Kevin Greenman

Brockport - Matthew Kevin Greenman, 43, of Brockport, passed away unexpectedly Friday, (February 6, 2015) at his home, in Brockport.

Mr. Greenman was born October 19, 1971 in Batavia, a son of Liz (Fritz) Rowsick of Bergen and the late Clinton R. Greenman.

Matthew was a man of faith and could be described as a genuine, energetic, enthusiastic man who was always thinking.  He was a friend of Bill W. and greatly enjoyed coaching youth baseball.

He loved to spend time outside; camping, biking, playing disc golf and swimming with his kids. 

A genuine sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on Tony Stewart, the Buffalo Bills and the Yankees.

Surviving along with his mother are his children, Jacob, Joshua, and Moriah Greenman all of Brockport; siblings, Ronald (Dawn) Greenman of Baltimore, MD, David (Patricia) VanValkenburg of Saugerties, John (Jennifer) Greenman of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Donna (Garth) Howard of Caledonia, and Daniel (Jennifer) VanValkenburg of Bergen; a dearly loved step brother, Mark Rowsick of Brockport.  Several nieces and nephews along with the children’s mother, Melisa Greenman of Brockport also survive.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Matthew’s Funeral Service will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, (February 11, 2015) at the Brockport Free Methodist Church, 6787 Fourth Section Road, Brockport. Burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.

John Joseph Bobka

John Joseph Bobka, 84, of Dunkirk passed away Saturday February 7, 2015 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born March 21, 1930 in Cleveland, OH to the late George (Suzie Svec) Bobka

John graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea Ohio with a degree in music education.   He then spent 4 years of active service with the United States Coast Guard and 4 years in the Reserves during the Korean War.  He received a Master’s Degree from Indiana University, Bloomingdale, Indiana.  In 1959 he joined the music faculty at Batavia City Schools and taught string instruments and orchestra until his retirement in 1985. He served as Chairman of the Music Department from 1979 on. In the summer of 1967, he studied with Shinichi Suzuki at Oberlin College in Ohio.  That fall he introduced the Suzuki method of violin teaching in the Batavia Schools and built up a very successful program with students from pre-K through Senior High. During his teaching years, he served as Concertmaster of the Genesee Symphony.   After his retirement he continued with his music by giving private lessons.  This continued until December 2013 when he had to give up his last student due to his failing vision. In addition to his love of music, John also enjoyed working with wood. His endeavors went from building a summer cottage in the Adirondack Mountains to handcrafting many pieces of furniture. He was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Fredonia, New York and served as an Elder and on the Church Council.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla Violette Bobka, who joined the faculty of the Batavia School System in 1960. Daughter Susan (Matthew) Fountain of Dunkirk; grandchildren Jonathan Adrian Bobka Fountain, Sarah Elizabeth Bobka Fountain; brother Rudolph Bobka of Sciota, NY ; along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00 AM Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 14, 2015 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church 334 Temple Street, Fredonia, NY 14063.  He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

MARGARET SCHLOSSEL

MARGARET SCHLOSSEL - age 90, of Batavia, NY died peacefully Friday morning February 6, 2015 at the Batavia Health Care Center. She was born October 16, 1924 in Batavia, NY to the late Ralph and Marie (DiFino) Recchio; also preceded in death by her husband, Zigmund C. "Ziggy" Schlossel on August 2, 1979; brothers, Frank and Michael Recchio, sister, Mary Schiavone.

   Margaret was a long time member of Resurrection Parish and enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo.

   Surviving are her loving children, Diana "Dee Dee" (Richard) Borrell of Batavia and their children, Jolene (John) Caselli and Michael Borrell; Joseph (Michelle) Schlossel of Batavia and their children, Joey and Morgan; J. Scott (Cheryl) Schlossel of New York City and their children, Sophia, Caroline and Elizabeth; beloved gigi to Olivia and Aidan; sisters, Josephine Fragnito and Jenny Trigilio both of Batavia; sister-in-law, Mary Recchio of CA along with many nieces and nephews.

William E. Bruggman

William E. Bruggman, 72, of Batavia formerly of Alexander passed away Thursday February 5, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. om He was born on November 29, 1942 in Batavia to the late Earl (Josephine Tenney) Bruggman. He is preceded in death by his son John Joseph Bruggman.

Mr. Bruggman worked as a Safety Inspector for New York State Department of Transportation prior to retirement. He was very active in the community. He was a Alexander Town Councilman, past Democratic Chairman for the Town of Alexander and State Democratic Committee member as well as a lifelong member of St. Vincent’s de Paul in Attica. He was also a member of the Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association as well as Spina Bifida of the Niagara Frontier.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years next month Connie Bruggman of Batavia; children Scott Bruggman, Beth (Beau) Matney of North Carolina, Thomas Bruggman of Bethany, Michael (Courtney) Bruggman of Batavia, Greg Bruggman of Batavia; grandchildren Brandi and DeAnna Bruggman, Christopher, Brandon (Theresa) and Ryan Williams, Chris Matney, John and Jack Bruggman; special friends Barry (Alison) Sheppard, Gerry (Christine) Henden and the cottage owners at Java Lake.

Patricia A. Derleth

Patricia A. Derleth, 75, of Batavia passed away Thursday February 5, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center.  She was born March 7, 1939 in Rochester to the late Francis (Hazel Pendleton) Farrell. She is preceded in death by her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. 

Mrs. Derleth and her husband John owned the Byron Hotel for 25 years. She was a member of Resurrection Parish and enjoyed doing various crafts.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband John J. Derleth of Batavia; children Mary Moskal of Batavia, Roy (Nancy) Johnson of NH, Wade (life partner Kevin) Johnson of NC, Christine (Richard) Thomas of Buffalo, Shirley (Allen) Shaffer of FL, John (Betty) Derleth Jr. of NC; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

(fiance’ Susan) Zola of Batavia.  Two loving grandchildren Kevin Zola of Buffalo and Tonya Smith of Batavia.  Two adorable great grandchildren Kira and Kaylee.   Florence is survived by her sister Rose Ruzuski of Alden. Predeceased by her parents Stephen and Catherine Czechowski. Also predeceased by siblings Stella Clark, Adele Kotas, Emily Pastazynski, Walter, Matty, Johnny and Chester Czechowski.  Florence had a long successful career spanning 50 years as a clerk/secretary at Erie County home, Union Chrysler-Plymouth, Foley’s Auto Parts and the town of Alden tax collection department.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking (usually Polish) meals, her pets, cheering the Buffalo Bills and especially listening to and dancing to Polish music.  After 13 years Florence is again finally dancing the polka with her beloved John at the ultimate Polka Party.

Family will be present at Charles Meyer Funeral Home in Alden from 4 to 8pm on Friday.  A mass of Christian burial will be held at 12noon on Saturday at St. John’s Church in Alden.  A reception to celebrate Florence’s life will immediately follow the burial at GDI Countryside Inn on Sandridge Road in Alden.  Just north of the church.

Harry S. Bucceri

Harry S. Bucceri, 89, of Oakfield passed away Sunday February 1, 2015 at his home. He was born December 15, 1925 in Oakfield to the late Sebastian (Carmela Bonaiuto) Bucceri. Harry is preceded in death by his sisters Sarah Church, Connie Mullaney and his brother Louie Bucceri.

Mr. Bucceri owned and operated Harry’s Beauty Shop in Oakfield for many years. He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish and a past Member of the Moose Lodge in Oakfield.

Mr. Bucceri is survived by his loving wife Yolanda (Saraceni) Bucceri of Oakfield; sons Dennis A. (Mary) Bucceri of Oakfield, Gary S. (Tina) Bucceri of Oakfield; sister Pauline Pieszala of FL.; grandchildren Nicki Bucceri, Christopher Bucceri, Denny Bucceri, Kristen (Tom) Porter; great-grandchildren Zach, Kyle, Teigen Porter, and Brock Bucceri along with many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy ~ LisaMarie Burch, age 52, of Asbury Road, passed away Sunday afternoon (Feb. 1, 2015) at Highland Hospital.

     

She was born March 30, 1962 in Rochester, N.Y., a daughter of Mary Louise and the late William Vicary.

     LisaMarie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt.  She adored her family, especially her granddaughter.  LisaMarie loved to cook and work out in her garden.

     She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Duane Burch; her children, Stephanie (James) O'Geen of Stafford, William Burch of W. Seneca and Claire Burch of LeRoy; her granddaughter, Hattie O'Geen; her mother, Mary Louise (William) Vicary-Reinegal of Stafford; her sister, Charlotte (Matthew) Maser of Stafford; niece, Nicole (Daniel) Young of Philadelphia, along with many other nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her father, William Vicary.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 ~ 8 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Grace Baptist Church, 238 Vine St., Batavia.  Private burial will follow services in Stafford Rural Cemetery.
