Frank A. Spiotta

Frank A. Spiotta, 75, of Batavia entered into peaceful rest on Sunday December 21, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. He was born on November 1, 1939 in Batavia to the late Michael (Virginia Lomanto) Spiotta.

Frank retired from United Parcel Service in 1999 as a delivery driver serving his customers for over 30 years. While employed by UPS, Frank was a member of the Teamsters Local 118 serving many years as the Local’s Union Steward.  He also worked part-time for over 30 years at Batavia Downs Raceway as a wager teller. He was also a former member of the St. Nicholas Social Club. In years past, Frank was an avid musician playing the saxophone while he was a member of a local band named “The Rockets.” He enjoyed games of chance and golfing with the guys. More recently he loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren. Above all else Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved  wife  of 30 years, Susan M. (Brick) Spiotta of Batavia, children Michael (Sandy) Spiotta of Rochester, Danielle (Jeremy) Pietrzykowski, Brooke (Scott Partridge) Baker, sister Frances (Richard) Tracy, grandchildren Paityn and Mariusz Pietrzykowski all of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday December 26, 2014 from 3 to 7PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 W. Main St., Batavia NY.  An 11:00 AM Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 27, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Avenue, Batavia, NY 14020.

Joseph E. "Spike" Glaus Jr.

Joseph E. “Spike” Glaus Jr., 83, of Batavia, formerly of Cardinal Hill Varysburg, passed away December 13, 2014 at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia with his family by his side. He was born October 8, 1931 in Weathersfield to the late Joseph (Clara Schenko) Glaus Sr. He is preceded in death his loving wife Irene Glaus; daughter Jennifer Hirschberg; brother Robert Glaus and sister Ruth Glaus.

Joseph owned and operated Johnsonburg Construction for many years prior to his retirement. He served in combat in the Korean Conflict; receiving 2 bronze stars. Joseph attained the rank of SGT and was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge; he also loved to deer hunt, play cards and drink beer.

He is survived by his sons Joseph (Janette) Glaus III of Attica, Benjamin (Tisha) Glaus of Philo, CA; daughters Brenda (James) Buda of Rochester, Julie (Ben) Gallinaro of Canandaigua; son-in-law Alex Hirschberg of Davidson, NC; brother Ernest Glaus of Varysburg; sister Esther (Herman) Miller of North Java; grandchildren Allison Buda, Vanessa (Brendan) Newhart, Ashley Buda, Sarah Gallinaro, Meghan Hirschberg, Trevor Hirschberg, Zachery Glaus, Erin Glaus, Joseph Glaus IV, David Glaus and great granddaughter Emily Newhart.

There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Ann M. Bachorski

Conesus / LeRoy ~  Ann M. Bachorski, age 80, of East Lake Road, formerly of LeRoy, passed away Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 16, 2014) at Rochester General Hospital.

     Mrs. Bachorski was born October 30, 1934 in LeRoy, a daughter of the late Joseph and Consuel Foriero Petracca.

     She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed working in her flower gardens and travelling.  She was a member of St. Matthew Church in Livonia, where she was very involved with church activities and was also a member of the garden club.

     Mrs. Bachorski is survived by her children, Connie Kemp of FL, Paula (Todd) Lokken of LeRoy, Susan (John) Loberg of TX, Chet (Maria) Bachorski of Rochester, Dyanne (Mike) Swick-Jones of NC, Joann (Tim) Collins of Livonia and Suzie Gall-Bachorski of LeRoy; grandchildren, Jason Kemp, Rebecca (Robert) Limmer, Jennifer (William) Clarke, Kelly (Christopher) Kapsales and Taylor Bachorski; great-grandchildren, Robert & Madeline Limmer and Emily & William Clarke; sister-in-law, Lorraine Patrick of MA; Louis Damico and many other friends.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Patrick.

      Family and friends may call on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 ~ 7 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Joseph's Oratory, 27 Lake St., LeRoy.  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.

Audrey J. Cook

Audrey J. Cook, 82, of Attica passed away on December 16, 2014 at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw.  She was born on May 16, 1932 to the late Milner (Mildred Leaton) Harding.  Audrey was a beautician in Attica for over 40 years.  She was very involved with the American Legion and her church St. Luke’s Episcopal in Attica.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Cook; brothers Edwin and Gordon Harding of Attica and a sister Norma Flick of Oak Grove.

Audrey is survived by her sons Terry (Susan) Allen of Attica, Steele (Julie) Cook of Attica; a daughter Paula (Edward) Donnelly of Attica; a sister Barbara Nadeau of Missouri; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours.  An 11:00 AM memorial service will be held on Saturday December 20, 2014 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church located at 30 Favor St. Attica, New York 14011. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Thomas R. Hartwig

Byron - Thomas R. Hartwig, 63, of Byron, died Monday, December 15, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Tom was born August 25, 1951 in Batavia, a son of the late John and Marjorie (Hilborn) Hartwig.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Tom was a loss control engineer for Travelers Insurance.  A veteran, he served with the United States Navy and was a past member of the South Byron Fire Department and the Byron Ambulance squad.  Tom was the president of the Genesee Camp of Gideons.  He loved woodworking and trap shooting.  Tom was an advance lay speaker for the United Methodist Church and since June, he was preaching at the Roanoke Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane (Greene) Hartwig of Byron; two sons, Chad (Jodi) Bates of Byron and Derek (Tina) Hartwig of Woodstock, VA; grandchildren, Cameron and Samantha Bates and Makenna and Maelyn Hartwig; two brothers, Jack (Kathy) Hartwig of Batavia and Robert Hartwig of Chambersburg, PA; one sister, Laurie (Gene) Bischoff of Williamson and several nieces and nephews.  

Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.  Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday also at the funeral home.  Private burial will be in Reed Cemetery, Oakfield.

Barbara A. Anderson

Barbara A. Anderson was born in Perry, New York on March 4, 1930 a daughter of the late Dwight (Ruth Brown) McClurg. Barb was a graduate of Perry Central School, after graduation she was married to Robert L. Anderson and spent her life raising four children. She worked in the family business in Pavilion, New York as office manager for 20 years. Barb was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Batavia New York for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert L. Anderson, step-mother Maxine McClurg, three brothers Jack, Robert and Larry McClurg. She is survived by her children, Captain Richard Anderson, Ph.D. USN (ret) Pensacola, FL, Timothy (Linda) Anderson of Batavia, Dr. William Anderson, MD, Ph.D. of Summerville, SC, Robbie (Tom) Fitzpatrick of Lake Worth, FL, 5 sisters: Betty White of West Palm Beach, Fl, Lois Taylor of Leicester, Lynn (Alvin) Wood of Perry, Virginia Culver of Sun City, West AZ, 1 brother, Don McClurg of East Bethany. She has 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

There will be no prior visitation. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Internment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.

Vera Louise Antonucci

Vera Louise Antonucci, 89, of Alexander passed away December 13, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 12, 1925 in Buffalo to the late Alfred (Nellie Brotherton) Naylor. She is preceded in death by her husband Vincent John Antonucci who passed away September 10, 1971.

Vera was a retired supervisor for Genesee County Social Services. She had also worked at H&R Block in Batavia from 1976 until 2013 and was currently the Alexander Village Clerk which she had started working at on October 10, 1955. Vera married the love of her life Vincent John Antonucci in September 1946. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. Vera was loved by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her friends. She loved to spend time with her family; was an avid reader and she also loved flowers.

She is survived by her children Paul and Sandy Antonucci of Sewell, NJ, Vincent Antonucci of Darien Center, Peter and Cindy Antonucci of Alexander, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday December 17, 2014 from 4-7PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC 135 Main Street, Attica New York 14001 where a Memorial Service will immediately follow. She will be buried in St. Vincent’s at a later date.

Leona M. Scipioni

Leona M. Scipioni, 94, of Albion passed away Friday afternoon at Hospice of Orleans, Inc. with her 2 daughters at her side following a short illness.

Born on May 30, 1920 in Chicago Il, the daughter of Dominic and Gladys Marciszewski. She resided in Albion, NY until she married the late John A. Scipioni on July 17, 1941. She then resided in Medina for many years until they moved to Florida in 1972. They returned to the Albion area in 1985 until present. For many years she worked as a sales clerk and had been promoted to department manager. She loved to crotchet and enjoyed spending time with her daughters and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Scipioni was a member of Holy Family Parish in Albion.

Survivors include a son, John (Terri) Scipioni of Rochester; two daughters, Lillian (Edward) Neal of Albion and Catherine (Jack) Hassall of FL; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is predeceased by 1 sister and 4 brothers.

There will be no prior calling hours and the family will receive friends at a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 AM on Thursday December 18, 2014. Father Richard Czismar will officiate at Holy Family Parish 106 South Main Street Albion, New York 14411.

Mrs. Alice V.Chaya

Batavia - Alice V. Chaya, 85, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Chaya was born January 16, 1929 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Webster and Gladys Shattuck Booth.

A member of Resurrection Parish she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Walter F. Chaya, whom she married October 28, 1949; her daughter,   Kathy M. Porter of Batavia; two granddaughters, Katherine (Peter) Metzler of Batavia and Dr. Sarah Porter of Rochester; her sister-in-law, Gladys Balbick of Wyoming and special friend and care giver, Regina Abdella.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother-in-law of the late Stephen Porter and step-daughter of the late George Poste.

There are no prior calling hours.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Site, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Senior Center, 2 Bank Street, Batavia, New York 14020 or Crossroads House, P.O. James R. Houser

 Basom - James R. Houser, 80, of Basom, passed away Friday, (December 12, 2014) at Buffalo General Medical Center, in Buffalo.

Mr. Houser was born March 4, 1934 in Batavia, a son of the late James B. and Blanche (Warren) Houser, Sr.

Jim enjoyed doing word search puzzles and painting.  His cats, Fluffy, Gizmo, and Salem as well as his dog, Zeus were the loves of his life.

He is survived by his close friends, Linda (Mike) Fitzsimmons of Basom.

His is the brother of the late Sybil Jamison, Shirley Wood, and Dorothy Worthington-Johnston.

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Welsh

Batavia ~ Elizabeth A. "Betty" Welsh, age 95, of Oak Street, passed away early Monday morning (Dec. 8, 2014) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

    

She was born January 11, 1919 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Hart Stoneham.

     Betty will be remembered as that warm and loving owner and hostess of many businesses in the LeRoy area.  She and her late husband, Thomas, owned and operated their bakery business, LeRoy Home Bakery, for many years.  She also worked for many years at the Red Osier and the D & R Depot.  She and Thomas also ran the Homewood Greenhouse on the former Woodward family estate.

     She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Forsyth of Batavia; her grandchildren, Kevin Forsyth and Megan Forsyth; a brother, George Couture, sisters, Elinor Bell and Joan Peers, brother-in-law, Earl Horn of LeRoy, very dear friend, Louise Browne, along with many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Thomas, she was predeceased by her siblings, Arthur Stoneham, Ethyl Genier and Viola Morrissey.

Frederick G. Schmieder

Frederick G. Schmieder Sr., 92, of Alexander passed away on Sunday December 7, 2014 at his home. He was born September 5, 1922 in Reichenbach, Germany to the late George (Rosa Beck) Schmieder. Frederick is preceded in death by his wife Marlyn (Courtwright) Schmieder; daughter Gretchen Schmieder; brothers Arnold and Paul Schmieder; sisters Hilda Lippold and Irma Andre.

Mr. Schmieder worked for the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia prior to retiring.

He is survived by his sons Dr. Frederick (Karen) Schmieder of Strongsville,OH, James (Nancy) Schmieder of Springwater, NY, Wlliam (Cathy) Schmieder of Alexander, John (Marcie) of Springfield, NE; daughter Heidi Sikes of Wayland; brothers George Schmieder of Batavia; Herbert (Anita) Schmieder of Alexander; sister Shirley Plescia of Rochester; 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Thomas K. Lee

Thomas K. Lee, 51, of Batavia passed away on December 8, 2014 at his residence. He was born on November 12, 1963 in Batavia Audrey Warner Lee of Batavia and the late Thomas Lee. He is preceded in death by his brother Lawrence T. Lee, brother in law Ronald Stepp, and father in law Robert Myers.

Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to hunt with his English setter Diamond. He enjoyed antiques, tools, loved to putter around and was very handy. He had a great sense of humor, was big hearted and always willing to lend a hand. Tom was an avid Yankee and Bills fan. He was supportive of his children and all they did.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Cheryl (Myers) Lee, children Garrett, Trevor and Catherine Lee;  brother Gregory (Elsie) Lee, sister Diane Stepp , sister in law Louise Lee, mother in law Joan (Bill) Stevens all of Batavia, brother in law Gregory Myers of Warsaw along with several nieces and nephews.

REGINA R. KOWALCYK

REGINA R. KOWALCYK - 84, of Batavia, died Sunday morning December 7, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born October 14, 1930 in Batavia, NY to the late Walter and Catherine (Januzak) Kosiorek, also preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Kowalcyk in 2007; infant son, Gregory; brothers, Walter, Andrew, John, Raymond, Norman & Leonard Kosiorek; sisters, Irene Butlak, Helen Coffey and Jane Sarceno.

   Mrs. Kowalcyk was a member of Resurrection Parish for many years. She was an avid sports fan, enjoying baseball, the Buffalo Bills and the Ohio State Buckeye's. Regina had a love for the holiday's, especially Christmas, playing badminton, cribbage, baking, crocheting and in her younger years, snowmobiling.

   Surviving are her loving children, Edward (Suzanne Falise) Kowalcyk of Oakfield, Juliann (Michael) Homsy of Dublin, OH and Christina Kowalcyk of Southwick, MA; brother, Ronald (Cathy) Kosiorek of Stafford; sisters, Lorraine Kuczynski of Batavia, Mary Asaro of MI; brother-in-law, Joseph Kowalczyk of Batavia; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Stephen Kowalcyk, Alexander Homsy; dear friends Arnold (Betty) Tiede and Polly Hunter along with several nieces and nephews.

   The Kowalcyk Family will be present from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday December 10, 2014 at the MICHAEL S. Elmer G. Case, Jr.

Corfu - Elmer G. Case, Jr., 70, of Corfu, passed away peacefully Sunday (December 7, 2014) at Buffalo General Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

Elmer was born on September 5, 1944 in Buffalo, a son of the late Elmer Sr. and Victoria Rudney Case. Elmer was a self-employed mechanic. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. Elmer was predeceased by his brothers and sisters; Roger, Robert and Gerald Case, Helen Kashuba and Shirley Philips.

Elmer is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia Koziej Case; his dear children, Chester (Beth) Case of Darien, Ann Case of Corfu and Darlene Mutter of Darien; grandchildren, Candy (Damian), Krystal, Tabitha, Ralph IV and Chester Jr; six great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Case. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the mortuary. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
