Carol J. Gozdziak

Carol J. Gozdziak, 77 of Batavia, died Sunday morning, January 12, 2014 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born July 5, 1936 in Barre, New York to the late John D. (Margaret White) Jacobs. Carol was retired from Maxpex Fibre Recycling in Medina and she also worked for many years as a home health aide. She used to sing and play guitar in a country western band with her late brother. She is preceded in death by her sons Thomas and Michael Horner, a daughter Sharon Horner. Brothers June Townsend and John Jacobs Jr., sisters Marjorie Narburgh, Haleda Reed and Onalee Hess.

Mrs. Gozdziak is survived by her children Kenneth (Kim) Horner of Georgia, Gary Rosenberg of Cheektowaga, Terry (A. Steven) Dick of Alexander and Debra Mucci of Ft. Wayne, IN;  11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday January 14, 2014 from 10 to 11 AM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY. Robert J. Hull

Robert was born in Smethport, PA. on January 23, 1925 a son of the late Robert L. and Vera Johnson Hull. Bob was a US Navy veteran who served on destroyer escorts from June 7, 1943 through February 28, 1946 in the South Atlantic and the Pacific. He graduated from Smethport High School in 1943 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey in 1950.

He worked as a tower operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad for two years and then went to work for the North Penn Co. in Port Allegany, where he worked for 33.5 years as an accountant. He also served as trustee, deacon, assistant treasurer, delegate to conference, on the board of administration, and usher in his past church ministry and was currently attending Rock Glen Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, landscaping, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by a brother Howard Hull.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Sweet Tenglund Hull, whom he married on February 21, 1970, his sister Dorothy Hull of Niantic, CT., his brother Harold Hull of Dallas, TX., his step-daughter Janet (David) Phillips of Silver Springs, His step-son Gerald (Sue) Tenglund of Framingham, MA., 8 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 12-1pm on Tuesday January 14th at the Rock Glen Baptist Church 4311 Rt.19 S in Silver Springs, where services will follow the visitation at 1pm. He will be laid to rest in Rosehill Cemetery in Smethport, PA.

LAWRENCE P. BROWN

LAWRENCE P. BROWN – Age 53, of Batavia died Wednesday evening January 8, 2014 at his home, following a long battle with MS. He was born July 17, 1960 in Buffalo, NY to Jack R. Brown of Williamsville and the late Loretta K. (Laney).

   Larry spent 4 years with the United States Marine Corps, serving as an MP (K-9 Unit). Following his service to our country, Larry was employed in the printing industry, having graduated from Erie Community College with a degree in computer science. He went on to engage in the manufacturing of various items at his business, "Creative Design" located in the Batavia Industrial Center.

   Surviving along with his father, are his siblings, Virginia of Syracuse, Mark (Sandra) of Canandaigua, Peter (Dianne) of Fredonia, Patrick (Maura) of Woodbridge, NJ, Scott (Jean Peca) of Batavia and Lindsey (E.J.) Martin of Braselton, GA; dear friend, Mary Ann Forgie of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

   Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Larry's Life 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 15, 2014 at the Michael S. Walter W. Kolberg

Walter W. Kolberg, 78 of Attica, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Wyoming County Community Hospital. He was born August 13, 1935 in Auburn to the late William H. (Mary Ryan) Kolberg. Mr. Kolberg worked at Attica Garage for many years, the Village of Attica as a mechanic as well as the Town of Attica where he was a mechanic and plow operator. He was a member of the Attica Fire Department for many years as a fireman, Chief, treasurer and he was also a member of the Masons. He is preceded in death by his sisters Florence Wagner and Mary Hartrick.

Mr. Kolberg is survived by his wife Leona M. Kolberg of Attica; children  Paul (Jamie) Kolberg of Batavia; Sharie (Richard) Vlack of Elba; Daryl Kolberg of Attica; 4 grandchildren, Ryan and Alan Vlack; Alex and Cristina Kolberg.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00 Funeral Service will take place on Saturday January 11, 2014 at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main St. Attica, NY 14011. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service at the Trinity United Methodist Church 75 Main St. Attica, NY 14011.He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery.

DOUGLAS A. SHEARER

DOUGLAS A. SHEARER – Age 68, of Medina, died peacefully Sunday morning January 4, 2014 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. He was born August 8, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, to the late Albert A. and Lorraine (Waldraff-Kramarz) Shearer also preceded in death by his sister, Charlene "Cookie" Joy.

   Doug was a very proud veteran who served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, as he aged he enjoyed cooking, Nascar and his simple country life in Western New York. Doug will be remembered as a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.

   Surviving is his sister, Phyllis Hess of Medina; brother, Lawrence (Jeanette) Kramarz of Byron along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

   There is no prior visitation, funeral services and military honors will be held privately by the family.

Clara G. Mancuso

Rochester ~ Clara G. Mancuso, age 93, formerly of LeRoy, passed away early Friday morning, January 3, 2014 at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester, where she had resided the last few years.

     Miss Mancuso was born February 21, 1920 in LeRoy, a daughter of the late George and Carrie Caccamise Mancuso.

     Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 3 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt 19), LeRoy.  Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Catherine M. Green

LeRoy ~ Catherine M. Green, age 96, formerly of St. Augustine, FL, passed away early this morning (Friday, Jan. 3, 2014) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

      Mrs. Green was born December 15, 1917 in LeRoy, a daughter of the late Charles and Florence Gross Blood.

     She will be remembered for her artistic abilities, working with stained glass, water colors, sewing and wood working.  She was a member of the Homemaker Club and the German Club.  She also loved to attend the flea markets.

     Mrs. Green is survived by her children, Karen (Robert) Faulkner of Bergen, Charles (Margaret) Green of Minoa and Robert (MaryAnn) Green of Edgerton, KS, her sister, Jane Kerby of Dover, DE, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

     She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest "Chubby" Green, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie (Mary) and Richard Keenan, a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandra Green, and 3 siblings, Francis Blood, Virginia Lyttle and Raymond Blood.

     Family and friends are invited to attend her Rite of Christian Burial on Monday, Jan. 6  at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish (St. Peter's Church), 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

Joseph A. Morgante

Joseph was born in Buffalo, New York on June 15, 1946 a son of the late Henry and Catherine McCarthy Morgante. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. Joseph worked for many years at the Century Warehouse in Buffalo before moving to Wyoming County, he then went to work in the kitchen at the Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan, he enjoyed to read, and build model cars.

He is survived by a sister: Mary (Jeffrey) Morgante-Rice of Silver Lake, a brother: John (Barbara) Morgante of Attica, nephews: Patrick Morgante, Joshua, Travis, Zachary (Cassie) and Tyler Rice, and a niece Christine (Stacy) Tensley.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday January 6, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.

Shirley J. Williams

Shirley J. Williams, 78 of East Bethany, passed away on January 2, 2014 at her home. She was born July 13, 1935 in Corfu to the late William (Ella Maleski) Schosek. Shirley was retired from B.O.C.E.S. in Batavia and she was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Attica where she was very active for over 50 years. She volunteered at My Sister’s Closet in the YWCA and Meals on Wheels. She loved family gatherings, garage sales and baking especially pies. She is preceded in death by her husband Eldon F. Williams in 2008; brother Raymond Schosek, sisters Ruth Charvella and Ethel Perrone.

Survivors  include her  children Charles (Terry) Merritt of Batavia; Gary (Tracy) Merritt of LeRoy; Stephen (Danielle) Merritt of Batavia; Patricia (Dan) Brinkman of Elba; Judy Mills of LeRoy; Pamela (John) Saxon of Henrietta; Craig (Daneen) Williams of E. Bethany; Jeff Martin of Rochester; brother William Schosek of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters Dorothy Tupper of Clarence, Hazel Brownell of LeRoy, 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Virginia C. Thompson

Virginia C. Thompson, 95 of Madeira Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday December 28, 2013 at the Suncoast Hospice Facility in Pinellas Park, FL. She was born July 16, 1918 in Lackawanna to the late Ermilento (Matilda Dello Russo) Marrano. Mrs. Thompson was retired from the former St. Jerome’s Hospital in Batavia as a RN and Head Surgical Nurse. She was a member of St. Vincent’s Church in Attica for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband George M. Thompson who passed away on May 29, 1998.Also preceded in death sisters Lucy Eusanio; Viola Orazetti; Mary Ilardo;  brothers Carmen, Charles, and Victor Marrano.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her children George M. (Dawn) Thompson of VA; Michaelene (Robert) Dun of Attica; Andrew C.(Joanna) Thompson of CO; ; brother Ralph (Evelyn Marrano of Atlanta Ga.; 4 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica.

Alan Crawford King

Alan Crawford King, 83, of Akron, passed away on Tuesday (December 30, 2013) at the Buffalo Hospice Palliative Care Center in Cheektowaga.

He was born in Buffalo on October 20, 1930, son of the late Albert and Ruth Ramsey King.

Mr. King was a graduate of Bennett High School and attended Empire College.  He served with the New York State National Guard and retired from the New York State Dept. of Taxation and Finance.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia Turner King of Akron. Children, Linda Harrington, Deborah (Mark) Medakovich, Karen (Richard) Bushen, Jeffrey (Lynnette) LaMontagne, Jacqueline Dillon, David (Elizabeth) LaMontagne.  Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share memories, condolences and thoughts on Saturday (January 4th) from 9:30am-11:30am at the J. Helen Jaroszewski Chilson

Helen was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 25, 1921 a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Witek) Jaroszewski. Helen retired from the former Champion Products in Perry in 1986 where she worked in the folding department. She attended the Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling and spending time with family. She is preceded in death by sisters Virginia Zarkowski and Lottie Bucci.

She is survived by a brother: Emil (Anna) Jaroszewski of Perry, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Daniel J. Krzesinski

Daniel J. Krzesinski, 86 of Bennington, passed away on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born October 17, 1927 in Buffalo to the late Felix (Victoria Michalak) Krzesinski. Mr. Krzesinski is a United States Army Veteran, member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, NYST, WNYST and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bennington. He attended Buffalo Technical High School, Canisius College (BS), New York State University at Buffalo (MS in Education). After serving in the military he was hired by the Buffalo Board of Education where he worked for forty years as a Science Teacher, Guidance Counselor and Administrator. His hobbies included lapidary, woodworking, leather, and wood carving. He is preceded in death by his siblings Edwin and Sonya Krzesinski.

Mr. Kresinski is survived by his wife Dolores M. (Okoniewski) Krzesinski of Bennington; children Victoria (Paul) Peters of Clifton Park; Noel (Alex) Krzesinski of Rochester; Richard (Laurie) Krzesinski of Herndon, VA; 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Alexander, Damien and Sonja along with several nieces and nephews.

Donald B. Stenshorn

LeRoy ~ Donald B. Stenshorn, age 80, of Lathrop Avenue, passed away Tuesday evening (Dec. 31, 2013) at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

     He was born September 18, 1933 in Warsaw, a son of the late Sidney and Luella Perrine Stenshorn.

     Mr. Stenshorn was a retired welder from the Lapp Insulator Company.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the LeRoy American Legion, the Batavia RC Flying Club, the Empire State Antique Truck Association and the Pine Hill Airport Museum.

     He is survived by his wife, Jean Bossart Stenshorn, his sons, Dale (Stephanie) Stenshorn of Rochester, Thomas (Jeanette) Stenshorn of York, PA and David (Lisa) Stenshorn of Kendall, his siblings, Janet Chapek of FL, Dean (Bonita) Stenshorn of Silver Springs and Diane (Robert) Kranack of FL, 5 grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter in law, Sandra Stenshorn.

     Friends are invited to call on the family on Friday, Jan. 10 from 3 ~ 7 PM. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Don's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1 E. Hazel May Miller

Hazel May Miller, 92 of Batavia, formerly of Alexander and Attica, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother died December 31, 2013 at Buffalo General Hospital. She was born February 4, 1921 in Alexander to the late Earle (Fannie Williams) Kelsey.

After graduating from Alexander High School, Hazel became a Rosie the Riveter at Curtis Wright in Buffalo during the war effort and later went on to earn her license as a cosmetologist, a profession which allowed her to work from home while raising her 8 young children. Later she went to work at Batavia Linen Systems and P. W. Minor and Sons in Batavia.  Hazel was a member of Bethany Center Baptist Church and volunteered for several years at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was best known to family and friends as a woman who always offered an encouraging word and didn't have a mean bone in her body. She is preceded in death by her son Russ, granddaughters Rachel Miller and Meredith Schaefer; brothers Donald (infant) and Daniel Kelsey.   

Survivors  include her husband of 67 years, Edward A. Miller;  seven children, Maggie (Marsha) Miller of Batavia, Roger (Judy) Miller of Spring Grove, VA., Greg (Ann) Miller of  East Bethany, Jeff Miller of Port Charlotte, FL., Paul (Sheri) Miller of Alexander, Paula Miller-Schaefer (George) of Norfolk, VA. and Vicki (Jeff) Wolak of East Bethany; Daughter-in-law Belinda Miller (Rick) Cox,  19 grandchildren,  28 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren; three brothers William (Janet) Kelsey, Robert (Peggy) Kelsey, and Gordon “Gub” (Gaylene) Kelsey, nieces and nephews.  Also, family member  Julie Pearce of Sebring, FL.
