Edward L. King

Edward L. King, 81of Oakfield, died October 27, 2012 peacefully at his home. He was born January 9, 1931 in Tide, PA to the late Lowry J. (Alice L.) King. Mr. King was a United States Air Force Veteran and served his country proudly for 14 years. He was retired from US Gypsum in Oakfield and was a member of the West Barre United Methodist Church. Ed loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Eileen J. (Hockenberry) King who passed in 2008; two sisters Della Guiste and Romayne Wheeler.

He is survived by sons Edward (Marlene), Ronald (Ava) King both of Batavia; daughters Kathy (Edward) Kastelic, Sharon King both of Oakfield; Robin (Tom Baker) Kirkum of Alabama; Tammy King of Oakfield; grandchildren Candy (Chris) Manes; Michelle (Ralph) Esten; Edward (Carie) Kastelic; Ritchie (Jennifer) Kirkum; Jason and Jared Kirkum; Megan, Christine, Brian, Edward (Stephanie) King; Deanna (David) Bellavia; Lisa (Brad) Mazur; 15 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Ferris B. Hazlett II

Ferris B. Hazlett II, 77 of Batavia died Saturday October 27, 2012 at the Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born October 5, 1935 in Sabinsville, PA to the late Ferris B. (Marie McCann) Hazlett. Mr. Hazlett was retired from Ausmus Trucking in Tonawanda. He was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church. Ferris loved auto racing especially NASCAR, he was an avid L.A. Dodgers fan, and loved camping at Silver Lake. He was predeceased by his wife of Carole (Penders) Hazlett; a brother Edwin Hazlett; sisters Elizabeth Ferris, Margaret Ackler and Sally Devling.

He is survived by sons Ferris B. (Bonnie) Hazlett III of E. Bethany; Kenneth (Darlene Higgins), Thomas (Cathi) Hazlett both of Batavia; daughters Sheryl Hazlett, Grace (Richard) Stewart, Michelle Hazlett all of Batavia; Lisa (Robert) Doran of Pavilion; brother Robert (Betty) Hazlett of Elkland, PA; sister Mary (Jerry) Swartz of Alleghany; sister-in-law Marcia Hazlett of Holand, NY; cherished grandchildren Nicole, Angelique, Erica, Shawn, Kelli, Jessica, Jordyn, Caroline, Will and Rebecca, great-grandchildren Paige, Brynn and Lloyd; proud owner of Tasker the dog along with many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Clayton G. Schwab

Clayton G. Schwab, 66, of Elma, NY and formerly of Batavia, died Wednesday (October 24, 2012) at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Batavia, NY on April 10, 1946, a son of the late Loren Schwab and Thelma Wagner Schwab of Batavia.

Clayton was a Vietnam Veteran, having served with the U.S. Army Green Berets Special Forces. He was a former Deputy Sheriff for Genesee County and was a Vascular Sales Representative for Unetixs Vascular, prior to his retirement.

Mr. Schwab was an avid hunter and enjoyed storytelling, traveling and riding his motorcycle.  He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Ohio, where he traveled on several mission trips.   Clayton and his wife also attended The Chapel in Getzville, NY.  But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving besides his mother, is his wife of 22 years, Beverly Ehrhardt Schwab of Elma. Daughter, Tamara Boothe of Florida. Grandchildren, Leo Schwab, Shona (Matthew) Ramos and Loren Clayton Schwab. Great-granddaughter, Abrianna. God children, Samantha, Brittney and Nicholas Meek. Sisters, Bonnie Morgan of Batavia and Kathleen Sparks of Williamson, NY. Father in-law and mother in-law, Robert and Martha Ehrhardt of North Chili, NY.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends may gather to share memories and condolences with the family on Sunday (October 28th) from 2-5pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia, where services will be Monday at 11am, officiated by Pastor Lud Golz.

Interment with full military honors will be in North Byron Cemetery.

Thomas A. Sabo

Thomas A. Sabo, 55, of Beaver, Pennsylvania, died October 23, 2012 after a brief illness. The last weeks of Tom’s life were spent in Katy, Texas, in the home of his sister Lynn (Robert) Guzik.  He was under hospice care while in Texas with his mother and sisters embracing him with love and care. He had the joy of being surrounded by his beloved nieces.

Mr. Sabo was born February 17, 1957 in Beaver, Pennsylvania, the son of Jean Henderson and the late Thomas C. Sabo. Tom spent most of his life employed as a mechanical engineer. He was a kind, intelligent, good man with a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. He made us laugh many times during his last days. He spent his life studying the Bible and worshipping the Lord. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, you loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, the late Thomas C. Sabo.

In addition to his mother Jean Henderson, Tom is survived by sisters Joanne (James) Pero of Batavia, NY.,  Mary (Joseph) Patton of Allentown, Pa., Lynn ( Robert) Guzik of Katy, Texas, and nephews and nieces Alecia (Kaus), Jennifer (Sullivan), Zachary and James Pero, Jenny, Thomas and Anna Patton and Claire and Leah Guzik. He is also survived by many wonderful cousins and friends.

A service in celebration of his life will be held on November 23, 2012 in Beaver, Pennsylvania.  Details will follow.

Florence L. Jannain

Batavia - Florence L. Jannain, 84, of Batavia passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Jannain was born December 23, 1927 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Blood. 

Mrs. Jannain was a past president of the VFW  Ladies Auxillary and was very active in the Pavilion Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles, especially crosswords.  She loved spending time with her family and was a dedicated collector of various knickknacks.

She was the wife of the late Lester N. Jannain, who died in 1996.

Surviving are her children, Linda (William) Jannain-Hume of East Bethany, Marcia Reeser of Pheonix, AZ, and Raymond Jannain of Rochester.  She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters as well as nieces and nephews.

Florence is preceded in death by a son, James Lester Jannain, and daughters, Victoria Rockefeller and Cynthia Jannain.

Sarah M. Passamonte

Sarah M. Passamonte, 87 of Batavia, died October 22, 2012 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born September 27, 1925 in Batavia to the late Samuel (Antoinette Irrera) Oddo Sr.. Mrs. Passamonte was retired from Off Track Betting in Batavia and was a member of St. Anthony’s Church for many years. She loved to cook, bake and spend time with her family. She is preceded in death by her brothers Nicholas, William, Anthony Oddo and a sister Angeline M. Oliver.  

She is survived by her beloved husband Charles Passamonte Jr.; brothers Joseph (Frances); Samuel (Theresa); Richard (Donna) Oddo all of Batavia; sisters Katherine (Bart) Turchiarelli of Williamsville; Anne (Nicholas) DiStefano of West Seneca along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

TERESA M. BUBAR

     Age 49, of Buffalo/Batavia, formerly of Plymouth, ME died peacefully Thursday morning October 18, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born March 26, 1963 in Pittsfield, ME a daughter of the late Kenneth & Jeanne (Langley) Bubar.

     Teresa was a groom at Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway. A wonderful mother who worked hard all her life with the horses she loved so much.

     Surviving are her loving children, son, Samuel S. Smith and daughter, Mae J. Smith both of Buffalo; her companion of 26 years, Carl Smith of Buffalo; sisters, Suzy (Robert) Hamilton, Tori Bubar; brothers, James Fletcher, Kenneth (Lorie) Bubar Jr. & Kevin (Trisha) Bubar; step-mother, Janice Bubar; step-sister, Martha Knight all of Maine along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Barbara Jean Kingdom

Alabama - Barbara Jean Kingdom, 66, of Alabama, a Cook at Oakfield - Alabama School, passed away Friday evening, (October 19, 2012) at her home.

Mrs. Kingdom was born July 3, 1946 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George and Pauline (Brydges) Mills.

Barb had a love of flowers, and the holidays. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed helping on the family farm. Mrs. Kingdom enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and traveling with her cousins. Most of all, she loved her family. There was a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, and she was always there for them.

She is the wife of the late Leonard Kingdom, who died in 1995.

Survivors include one son, Brian Kingdom and one daughter, Joyce Kingdom both of Alabama; four brothers, Robert Mills, Olin (Lynne) Mills, George (Toni) Mills, and John Mills all of Alabama; and a brother-in-law, Lyle (Betty) Starkweather of Alabama. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Barbara is preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Starkweather.

DAVID F. MOSIER

     Age 65, of Attica, died Monday morning October 15, 2012 at his home. He was born October 7, 1947 in Buffalo, a son of the late John & Mary Ann (Huber) Mosier.

     Mr. Mosier worked part-time for the Town of Darien as its Building Inspector. He was an avid hunter, very active and the current Vice President and Event Secretary for the Java Village Beagle Club. Dave was a family man who most enjoyed his kids and grandkids and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of 44 years, Diane (Schreiber) Mosier of Attica; son, David Mosier of Alden; daughter, Betsy Raffel of Attica; brother, John "Jack" (Marilyn) Mosier of Akron; sister, Mary Jo (Richard Babin) Mosier of Darien Center; sister-in-law, Karlene Michael of Alleghany; brother-in-law, James (Shea) Schrieber of Java Center; daughter-in-law, Kourtney Mosier of Attica; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Regina Mary Kohl

Regina Mary Kohl of Alexander, NY has gone to dwell in the house of the Lord evermore (Oct. 16th) with her husband John Ambrose Kohl who passed away in 1957 and her companion of many years, Donald W. Pinzel who passed in 2007. Regina was born August 12, 1929 to the late John and Mary Mazierski of Arcade.

She grew up in Buffalo and married in 1955. After raising her two sons John and Jeffrey (Abby) Kohl of Corfu she spent 13 years caring and giving comfort to the elderly at Aurora Park, East Aurora NY. Regina was a devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother. Her grandchildren include Lisa Kohl (John Almendarez) of NC, Kathleen, Sarah, and JoHannah Kohl; Autumn Kohl, Jesse (Kelly) Kohl, James (Brandie) Kohl and 3 great- grandchildren. She also had nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She is predeaceased by her brothers John, Joseph, Casmir, and Stanley. Surviving family are Frank Mazierski, Sophie Wojcik and Jennie Poltorak.

Calling hours will be Friday (Oct. 19th) from 4-7pm in the evening at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (Oct. 20th) at 10:00 AM at the Annunciation of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, NY. Ruby L. Twichell

Ruby L. Twichell, 90 of Batavia  died October 14, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.  She was born February 10, 1922 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to the late Percy (Daisy Redden) Johnson. Mrs. Twichell was a homemaker who loved crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, bingo and reading. She is preceded in death by two sons Morris and Daniel Twichell and a daughter Jean Twichell. 

She is survived by sons Ralph (Billie) Twichell of South Carolina, Steven Twichell of LeRoy, NY; daughters Ethel Cooney of Lake Jackson, TX, Barbara Davis of Winter Haven, FL., Marsha Gueara of Cheektowaga, NY and Debra Fetzer of Batavia. One sister Dora Shepard of Florida survives along with 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lee F. Allyn

Lee F. Allyn, 91 of Batavia died Sunday October 14, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia. He was born August 24, 1921 in Batavia to the late John (Frances McMahon) Allyn. Mr. Allyn was a former City of Batavia Council President and a retired City of Batavia Firefighter where he worked for 37 years. He operated Lee F. Allyn Fire Equipment prior to his entering politics. He served as a Councilman at Large for 4 years prior to becoming Council President for the next 4 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran who held the rank of 1st Sergeant. He was a long time member of Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s Church), a volunteer at St. Mary’s Lawn Fete’s, a member of Notre Dame Sports Boosters and a volunteer for the Red Cross and various City Committees. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Ruth L. Sherman Allyn and their infant daughter Tina L. Allyn, three brothers Lyle, Carl and James Allyn.

He is survived by two daughters RuLee Allyn of Batavia, Shirley (Richard) Piwowarski of Lancaster and several nieces and nephews.

Walter G. "Jerry" Newman

Corfu - Walter G. "Jerry" Newman, 77, of Corfu, passed away Monday (October 15, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia.

Jerry was born August 1, 1935, in Buffalo, a son of the late Walter and Eleanor Weismore Newman. He was a supervisor for Corcraft, at the Attica Correctional Facility and a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish (Holy Name of Mary Church) in East Pembroke. Jerry was the brother of the late James Newman and Phyllis Balduf.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Carol (Rupert) Newman; two step-sons, Timothy Rupert and John Gancarz;  four grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Barbara) Newman and Austin (Mary) Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

Stephen T. Ferry

Oakfield - Stephen T. Ferry, 21, of Oakfield, a lineman at Ironwood Heavy Highway LLC. in Rochester, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Oakfield.

Mr. Ferry was born April 5, 1991 in Brockport, the son of Dolores (Harvey Lamie) Harvey of Oakfield and Ace T. Ferry of PA. 

He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, woodworker and 4-wheeler.  He enjoyed his son and his nieces and nephews and his forestry work.  

Surviving along with his parents is his son, Waylon Ferry of Batavia, his grandmothers, Virginia A. Havey of Oakfield and  Aldina Ferry of NH; a sister, Nicole (Matthew) Boyce of Batavia, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

ROBERT L. CARROLL

     Age 71, of Alexander, died peacefully Saturday morning October 13, 2012 at the Batavia VA Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born June 10, 1941 in Buffalo, a son of the late James & Evelyn (Bailey) Carroll.

     Mr. Carroll is a Veteran of the United States Navy and worked for the Department of Defense for many years and enjoyed volunteering at the VA. He was a quiet and private man who will be remembered as a loving father and husband who always put others needs first.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of 23 years, Jalene (Hendricks) Carroll of Alexander; his daughter, Jalena Dunphy of Batavia and many dear friends.
