Patricia A. (Losey) Cicero

Patricia was born in Nunda, New York on September 22, 1941 a daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Mabel Stocking Losey. She passed away at her home on Friday September 7th surrounded by her family. Pat worked for the Rochester Telephone Company, the former Sears Store in Perry, Harts Insurance Co. in Perry, Wyoming County Bank, Glenn Iris Inn, and Rite Aid in Perry. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Mt. Morris, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Perry and Silver Sneakers Club at the YMCA. She was an avid gardener, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling, going on trips to the casino, Broadway shows and concerts, and had a great love for music.

She is survived by her husband Norman Cicero whom she married on Oct. 17, 1964, 2 sons: Vincent (Brenda) Cicero of Mt. Morris and Mark Cicero of Perry, 4 sisters: Shirley Biondolillo of Perry, Shelby (Mark) Manous of Canton, Ga., Joyce Losey of Geneseo and Sharon (Gordon) Marble of Dansville, 1 brother: Robert (Sandy) Losey of Perry, 2 grandchildren: Dylan and Tylor along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Anne D. LaFountaine

Anne was born in Plattsburg, NY on February 19, 1923 a daughter of the late Harry and Florence (Ross) Myers. She passed away at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw where she had been residing on Friday September 7th, 2012. Mrs. Fountaine was a 1941 graduate of Lion Mountain High School. She was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her 3 daughters, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She is preceded in death by her husband Victor P. LaFountaine who she married in 1945 he died in 1981, a daughter Patricia “Susie” Moomey who died in 1998; siblings and their spouses Frances (George) Remes, Patricia (John) Gill, Jane (Ralph) Compagnone, Peggy (Douglas) St. John, and Harry and Ross Myers.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Joan (Brian) Salisbury of Endicott and Bonnie (David) Davis of Perry a son-in-law: Charles Moomey of Endicott, a sister: Doris McCaully of Plattsburgh, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Merrillsville Cemetery Loon Lake, NY. Robert S. Stachowski, Sr.

Robert S. Stachowski, Sr., 82 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (September 4, 2012) at his residence surrounded by his caring family.

He was born in Batavia on March 24, 1930 to the late Stanley and Mary Jsztrebeski Stachowski.

In 1955, he was professed a Brother in the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi, where he was known as Brother Anthony. Robert was a eucharistic minister for the Genesee County and  LeRoy Village Green Nursing Homes for several years.  He was also a demitted member of the Blazing Star Lodge of East Aurora, NY, 32nd Degree member of the Buffalo Consistory and a Noble Shriner of the Buffalo Ismalia Temple.

Robert was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War with prior service in the Territory of Alaska where he performed many air rescue missions both military and civilian.  He was employed by Moog Inc. as a machinist and supervisor until his retirement after 37 years of service.  Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing and competed in the Bassin Magazine BBWC Championship where he finished 5th in the state of New York.  He was a musician and composer and enjoyed playing the accordion and piano, composing several musical works.

He was the husband of the late Fern Cudmore Stachowski who died in 1992 and Rosemary Shevlet Stachowski who died in 2011.

Survivors include four daughters;  Deborah (Paul) Glick of Amherst, Kathleen Calmes of Holland, Jacqueline (Ron) Zyglis of Lancaster and Sharon (Steven) Koziol of East Aurora. A son, Robert Stachowski, Jr. of Lancaster.  Ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was the brother of the late Edward Stachowski, Rose Wierzbicki and Alicia Potrzebowski.

Friends of the family are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the family on Friday from 4-8pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 9:30am at Resurection Parish (St. Joseph Church). 

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.

Carl M. Robbins "Mike"

Carl "Mike" Robbins, 73 of Batavia, died Monday (September 3, 2012) at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on March 17, 1939, to the late Leo and Ella Dahlke Robbins.

Mr. Robbins was employed by Rochester Products prior to his retirement.

Survivors include two brothers, Ralph (Virginia) Robbins of Alexander and David (Barbara) Robbins of Hamlin.  Nieces and nephews also survive.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Keith E. Bell

Keith E. Bell, 58 of Oakfield died September 3, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born April 10, 1954 in Batavia to the late Floyd (Loraine Wohlsclagel) Bell. Mr. Bell is a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post 626 in Oakfield. He was retired from the US Gypsum. Keith loved bowling, horseshoes and NASCAR.  He is preceded in death by a brother Bruce Bell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Judy (Bihl) Bell of Oakfield; daughters Jennifer (Keith) Emminger of Danbury, CT; Danielle (Jeff Lang) Bell of Batavia; grandson Matthew Emminger; brother Robert (Sandra) Bell of Orchard Park; sister Dawn (Larry) Patton of Clearwater, FL, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Virginia E. Temple

Batavia- Mrs. Virginia E. Temple, 91, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Temple was born February 6, 1921 in Elba, the daughter of the late John and Huldah Bratt Krueger.

A member of St. James Episcopal Church since 1947, Mrs. Temple was a member of the women's afternoon group of the church. She also belonged to the So & Sew Hobby Club in West Bethany and the Happy Agers in Alexander.  Mrs. Temple was formerly employed at the P. W. Minor Shoe Factory in Batavia where she and her husband met. She was a self-employed draper and also worked for Robert Stevens Custom Drapery.

Her husband, William M. Temple, died August 19, 1992. She was the mother of the late Carol Smith and Kenneth Temple, sister of the late John Kreuger and mother in law of the late Carmella Temple.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen M. (Lawrence) Belluscio of Byron; two sisters, Betty Lander of Batavia and Bertha Oliphant of Oregon.  She was the grandmother of William (Ronald) Russell-Tuohey, Danielle (Norman) Schollard, Matthew Temple, Kristen Temple, Ross Temple, Virginia (James) Barber and Katrina Smith and step grandmother of Donald (Tonya) Belluscio and Aaron (Jamie) Belluscio.  Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 5 step great grandchildren; a son-in-law James Smith and nieces and nephews.  

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 East Main Street, Batavia.  Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Alexander.

Jay D. Smith

Batavia- Jay D. Smith, 89, of Batavia, NY, the retired Director of Food Service at St. Jerome's Hospital, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 2, 2012at Erie County Medical Center, in Buffalo.

Mr. Smith was born July 24, 1923 in Gravel Ridge, Arkansas, the son of the late Cleve and Edith  (Rowel) Smith.

A veteran of World War II he served with the US Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a member of the Glenn S. Loomis American Legion Post.  He also belonged to the Assembly of God Church in Batavia and the International Food Service Executives Association where he is a certified food executive. After retirement, Mr. Smith was a part-time cook at St. Luke's Manor in Batavia. He was dedicated to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. Underhill Smith, whom he married on March 17, 1960.   Also surviving are his daughters, Jaylene (Daniel) Kilner and Mona (Steve) Doyon both of Batavia and Lisa Joy Smith of West Seneca; 5 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Ann Smith.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Blanche Barger, Johnny Belin, & Floy Vine and his brother Cleve Smith, Jr.

Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Batavia Assembly of God Church, 24 North Spruce St. where services will follow at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to either Bernadette Terrace of West Seneca for their Activities Fund or Caravan Ministries.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.

Elsie I. Howard

Batavia - Mrs. Elsie I. Howard, 85, of Batavia, entered into rest Monday (September 3, 2012)at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Howard was born December 5, 1926 inKarthus, PA, a daughter of the late Leonard and Hazel (Gross) Rupe.

For the last five years she was a resident of the Genesee County Nursing Home. 

Elsie was employed at both of the hospitals in Batavia.  First, at St. Jerome’s Hospital in food service for 12 years and then for 12 years at Genesee Memorial Hospital in housekeeping.

Elsie enjoyed teaching vacation bible school and Sunday school.  She went into clown ministries having designed and hand sewn all of her own costumes.  Elsie also enjoyed gardening and her turtles.

Survivors include four daughters, Gloria (Raland) Boyce of Pavilion, Doris Keane of Tennessee, Joyce (Joe) Jewett of Oakfield and Shirley (the late Donald) Durham of Basom; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, four brothers and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Batavia Assembly of God, 24 North Spruce Street, Batavia.  Burial will be in Indian Falls Cemetery.

Raymond R. Salada Sr.

Raymond R. Salada Sr., 80 of Perry died September 1, 2012 at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. He was born in DuBois, PA on June 2, 1932 to the late Chester (Cleta Wheeland) Salada. Mr. Salada was retired from Champion Products in Perry. He was a sports enthusiast that loved the Pittsburg Steelers, playing cards and bowling. He is preceded in death by his wife Lois (Ludwig) Salada and a sister Rachel Luckenbach. 

He is survived by his sons Chester (Kathryn) Salada of Perry; Raymond (Donna) Salada Jr. of Fillmore; daughters Lucia (Doug Jones) LaFrance of Perry; Cathy (Gerry) Freeman of Attica; sister Alfreda Burkovich of Greece; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Norman H. Havens

Mr. Havens was born in Batavia 81 years ago to the late Ralph and Irene Heale Havens. Mr. Havens worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Batavia for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of the New York Army National Guard in Batavia, and he was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. In his later high school years and beyond he sang in a Barbershop Quartet. He was a former member of the Batavia American Legion and VFW, also the former Batavia Moose Club. Mr. Havens enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, waterskiing, building model airplanes and making them fly, but his greatest enjoyment was his 6 grandchildren who he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother the late Douglas Havens

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Anna Mae "Anne" (Scalia) Havens of Batavia and 2 sons Rick (Melissa) Havens and Randy (Caryn) Havens both of Batavia 2 sister-in laws Jean Havens and Jane Scalia and a brother in-law Anthony (Julia) Scalia all of Batavia. 6 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins, also survive

Mr. Robin Jon Branton

Stafford- Mr. Robin Jon Branton, 52, a former employee at Automotive Corporation in Batavia, died Friday, August 31, 2012 at home.  He was previously employed as a Probation Officer for Genesee County and the Prudential Life Insurance Co.
 
Mr. Branton was born May 5, 1960 in Batavia, the son of the late Raymond and Jean Robertson Branton Platten of Stafford.
 
He was a member and past Assistant Chief and past Chief of the Stafford Fire Department, a lifetime member of the Stafford Fire Department Exempts and a volunteer with the Genesee County Auxiliary Police and the LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance.  In addition to being active with the Fire Department he enjoyed gardening, cooking, model trains and the Batavia Muckdogs.
 
Surviving along with his mother is his wife, Lyndy Saile Branton; his children Peter and Danielle; two brothers, Rick (Gretchen) Branton and Donn (Yvonne) Branton, both of Stafford; two sisters, Laurie (Norman) Itjen of Elba and Terri (Tom) Starowitz of Stafford; his mother-in-law, Mary Saile of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.
 
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at theH. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia.  Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the H.E. Turner & Co. Carmen E. Miranda

Carmen E. Miranda, of Alden, NY, passed away Aug. 28, 2012. He was the husband of Violetta L. Miranda, who preceded him in death. He was the dear father of Carmen Jr. (Joanne), Linda (Bernard) Fix, and Anthony (Teresa) Miranda.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Brother of Salvatore (Linda), Annamarie, Edward and predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian burial will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 1) at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Alden. Family and friends will assemble at the Charles Meyer Funeral Home, located at 13228 Broadway, Alden, from 6 to 8 tonight and on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and also at 6 to 8 p.m.

Nellie M. Lanckton

Nellie was born in Perry NY on January 12, 1936 a daughter of the late Ward O. Laura Belle Niver Maxson. Nellie was a 1954 graduate of Perry Central School. She had worked for the former Ben Franklin, Champion Products, Robeson Cutlery, and Perry Knitting Mill, the Perry Central School, Perry Public Library and retired from M&T Bank in 2004. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry, the Moose Club in Warsaw and the Tuesday Night bowling league. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, cooking, and especially enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband Albert Townes who died in 2002; siblings Laura Schwab, Mary Dumbleton, Martin, Ward, Reginald Maxson and a brother-in-law Clayton Shirley.

She is survived by her husband Philip Lanckton whom she married in 2008, a daughter Susan Butler of Chipley, Fla., 3 sons: Steven (Patricia) Townes , Stuart (Lisa) Townes and Skyler (Carly) Townes all of Perry, 2 sisters: Betsy Shirley of Perry and Eva Mae (Devoughn) Speicher of Grants Pass, Or. Brothers and Sister in-laws: Mary (Jerome) Lemley of Pavilion, Frank Crawford of Fairbanks, Al.,12 grandchildren: Katie Barajas, Susan Martinez, Jenny, David and Patty Ziolkowski, Steven Jr., Amber, Joel, Matthew, Key, Briar and Alexander Townes and 12 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 29th at 3:00pm at Grace Cemetery in Castile. On Tuesday evening August 28th there with be a gathering at the Perry Vets Club for a Celebration of Life.

Edward G. Herbert

Edward G. Herbert, 33, of New York City,  formerly of Castile and Rochester died Saturday (Aug, 25, 2012) unexpectedly at his home. He was born in Warsaw June 29, 1979, aa son of the late Robert Herbert and Rose Seavert Spencer of Castile. Edward was a 1997 graduate of Letchworth Central, received an associates degree in business from Monroe Community College and Continental Beauty School in Rochester. He was a self employed hairdresser who had owned and operated the former Kelly Edwards Salon in Rochester. He enjoyed traveling, loved his work, and was always the life of the party. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Herbert who died in 1994, a sister Christa Herbert who died in 1983, grandparents Jeanne Seavert, Edward (Ethel) Herbert.

Survivors include his mother Rose (James) Spencer of Castile; two sisters, Marie Herbert of Binghamton and Dawn (Jeff White) Ebner of Silver Springs; two step-brothers: Chris Spencer of Batavia and Scott (Tiffany) Spencer of Simpsonville, S.C.; his grandfather: Richard Seavert of Darien, Ga., a nephew, Shae Ebner; four nieces, Alexsis Ebner, Lakayla Herbert, Olivia and Ava Spencer along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Lawson J. Pontius

Lawson J. Pontius, 102 of Batavia, August 27, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 10, 1910 on the family farm near Geneva to the late Paul (Abigail Gaffney) Pontius. Mr. Pontius has been a resident of Batavia since 1926. He worked for the Mancuso Auto Dealerships for 38 years. During the depression he and Tyler Peck operated the Main Garage in Batavia. During the war he worked at Curtiss Wright in Buffalo and he retired from McGregor Buick-Pontiac in 1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and had served on the Board of Trustees. His interests included writing poetry and reading the history of vintage automobiles and airplanes. He also enjoyed being with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Emma Netzen Pontius who died in 2007, daughter and son in law Lois (Norris) Geer, son in law Gary Bauer and sisters Eleata Netzen, Edna Trout, Lucy Jewell and Helen Hottois.

He is survived by his daughter Sally Bauer of Ontario, NY, 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
