William J. Wymer, 89 of Brockport, died Monday (December 12, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born in Luthersburg, PA on July 21, 1922, the son of the late William and Mary Kridler Wymer.

William was an Army Veteran of WWII and was retired from Union Carbide in Niagara Falls, NY as a metalurgical tech. He was a member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V..

Survivors include a daughter and son in-law, Kathryn (Raymond) Johnson of Brockport. Son, Philip Wymer of Bradenton, FL.  Sister, Jayne Ruppert of Dubois, PA. Four grandchildren, Lisa Johnson, Eric (Karen) Johnson, Kelli Lovette and Philip Scott Wymer.

William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eileen Voutour Wymer.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Larry N. Capuano, 85 of Batavia, died Sunday (December 11, 2011) at Buffalo General Hospital.

He was born in Batavia on December 13, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Lucy Cottichio Capuano.

Larry was a Navy Veteran of WWII and a bartender at the former Mancuso Restaurant  in Batavia for 45 years.  He was also a member of St. Anthony’s Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Louise Grasso Capuano of Batavia. Three sons, Gary (Laura) Capuano of Batavia, Dennis (Pam) Capuano of Alexander and Donald (Cheryl) Capuano of Byron. Two daughters, Linda Baker and Karen Capuano, both of Batavia.  Sister, Loretta (Jerry) Greco of Batavia. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was the father of the late David Capuano, father in-law of the late James Baker and brother of the late Marie Capuano, Vincent Capuano, Sal Capuano and Anita Capuano.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday (Dec. 13^th), 11:30am at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony Site). Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Batavia- Mr. David V. Gates, 70, office manager at Statewide Machinery in Rochester died Friday, December 9, 2011at Highland Health System, in Rochester following a brief illness.

Mr. Gates was born February 10, 1941 in Weedsport, NY, the son of the late Charles and Ruth Tucker Gates.

He was a sales associate for Bob Harris Realty in Batavia, a member of Stafford Country Club, the Polish Falcons and formerly belonged to the BPO Elks and the St. Nick’s Club.  Always conscientious about physical fitness and exercising he was most proud of his “Silver Sneakers” award presented to him by the YMCA.  He was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and always enjoyed attending the games.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia F. Bielowicz Gates whom he married November 9, 1963.

Survivors also include one son; Craig (Tina) Gates; two daughters; Kim (Philip) Marcello and Kristen (Todd) Gates, all  of Batavia; one brother, Daryl (Laura) Gates of Michigan and one sister, Sarah (Kenneth) Walker of Ithaca, NY. He was the grandfather of Alex and A. J. Marcello, Calla Gates and Colton and Macey Martin.  He was the brother of the late Roger Gates.

Age 81, of Batavia died peacefully Thursday morning December 8, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born August 3, 1930 in Batavia, NY daughter of the late Anthony (Mary Garofalo) Tenebruso, also preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Zanghi, Rose Mary Battaglia, infant grandson Robert Michael Jensen, her father and mother-in-law Donato (Assunta Bellucci) Berardini. She was retired from GTE Sylvania, a lifelong member of Ascension Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society, the St. Michael's Society and Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation. Angie was a founding member of the St. Nicholas Women's Auxiliary and a past president, an active member of her 1947 reunion committee. She enjoyed ceramics, the casino and travelling to visit her kids and grandkids. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years Donald A. Berardini of Batavia; her beloved children Donald A. Jr. (Terri) of Lake Forest, IL; Michael (late Lisa) of N. Chili; Brian (Frances) of Clayton, NC; Paul of Batavia; Suzanne (Donald) Jensen of Binghamton and Eva (Steven) Owens of Clayton, NC; loving brothers and sisters Rocco Tenebruso; Anthony (Marcia) Tenebruso; Mary "Mickey" (Roger) Grazioplene all of Batavia and Anna (Jack) Hamner of CA; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law Anthony Battaglia of Batavia; Richard (Josie) Berardini of Webster; Robert (Susan) Berardini; Diane (Jerry) Martino both of Batavia and Betty Daly of AZ along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Angelo L. Seppe, 89 of Batavia, died December 4, 2011at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia. He was born September 19, 1922 in Batavia, New York to the late Frank (Angeline Gustaferro) Seppe. Mr. Seppe was a 23 year navy veteran retiring as Chief Warrant Officer. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict enlisting in 1942 and retiring in 1964. He served on the USS Philippine Sea, USS Midway, USS Intrepid, USS Jupiter and USS Nitro. He also was stationed at Norfolk, VA, in Brazil with the Fleet Air Wing 16, Corpus Christi, Texas; Patuxen River, MD and New York City, NY. During his service he was awarded the following medals – American Campaign Medal, U.N. Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European, Africa, Middle East Campaign Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal three times. He was also retired from GTE Sylvania, and a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s). He is preceded in death by his wife Olive Norris Seppe in 2009, brothers Philip, Carl, Dominic, Louis and Gabriel Seppe, sisters Bridget Aquino, Rose Seppe and Josephine Battaglia. 

He is survived by many nieces and nephews in the Aquino, Seppe and Battaglia families. 

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday December 9, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s Church), 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia, NY 14020. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Batavia.

Charles R. Pero, 83, founder and proprietor for over 50 years of Charles R. Pero Plumbing and Heating, died Saturday, December 3, 2011at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Pero was born September 29, 1928 in Rochester, the son of the late Charles R. and Adeline Colaianni Pero.  He was a member of Ascension Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, where for many years he and his family operated the food stand at the annual lawn fete. He also belonged to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Holy Name Society of the Church and was a member of the American Engineering Association.

 His wife, Marien Pixley Pero died May 17, 2005 and he was the grandfather of the late Michael Napoleone.

Survivors include two sons; Charles (Linda) Pero of Buffalo and David (Trish) Pero of Batavia; two daughters: Adelyn Pero of Florida and Laurie (Mark) Napoleone of Batavia; nine grandchildren, Amy Southcott, Michael (Beth) Pero, Nick Pero, David (Heather) Pero, Jeffrey Pero, Gina Pero, Mark Napoleone, Ashley Napoleone and Christen Napoleone. Six great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

Ruth E. Charvella, 84 of Batavia, died December 3, 2011at Crossroads House. She was born December 19, 1926 in Buffalo to the late William (Ella Mallewsky) Schosek. Mrs. Charvella worked for many years at the Batavia Restaurant Supply. Ruth was longtime member of Resurrection Parish. She was an avid reader that liked to cook and garden. Mrs. Charvella loved to entertain, especially spending time with her family and friends at their cottage. She is preceded in death by a brother Ray Schosek and a sister Ethel Perrone.    
                                                                                                                        
She is survived by her husband Charles F. Charvella; sons Charles P. “Skip” (Karen Pompa) Charvella; Michael P. (Beverly) Charvella of Batavia; grandsons Stefan, Nathan (Paula), Christopher Charvella; great-grandchildren Ashton, Brady, Morgan, Mila Charvella; brother William (Betty) Schosek of FL; sisters Dorothy Tupper of Clarence; Shirley Williams of E. Bethany; Hazel Brownell of LeRoy along with many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy- Mr. John R. Smith, 83, of LeRoy, a retired employee of Rochester Telephone and Batavia Downs died Monday (November 28, 2011)at Highland Health System in Rochester.

Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1928 in Hornell, a son of the late Daniel P. and Mary Jane (Reese) Smith.

He served with the US Army from 1950 to 1952 and belonged to the Botts-Fiorito American Legion Post in LeRoy. He was a member of East Bethany Presbyterian Church and Bethany Volunteer Fire Department Exempts.

Surviving is his wife, Elma L. (Glor) Smith whom he married April 4, 1953; two sons, Jeffrey R. (Theresa) Smith of LeRoy and Gregory Smith of Georgia; two sisters, Diane Wheatley of Batavia and Nancy (Charles) Rieks of Florida and a twin brother, James (Agnes) Smith of East Bethany.

He was the grandfather of Maggie, Allison, Matthew and Ryan Elizabeth Smith.   His loving companion pet, “Cool Cat” also predeceased him.

Paul R. Courter, 64 of Batavia, died peacefully on Saturday (November 26, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in the Town of Tonawanda, NY on June 24, 1947, the son of the late John and Cathlyn Lienert Courter.

Paul was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting and was the owner of Paul R. Courter, CPA in Batavia.  Paul was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Sharyl Welsh Courter of Batavia.  Son and daughter in-law, Andrew Paul (Ashley) Courter of Bristow, VA.  Daughter, Karen Courter of Batavia. Grandson, Ryan. Sisters, Diane Courter of Grand Island and Peggy Getman of Buffalo. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Carl Courter and Cathlyn Saylor.

Dorothy E. Lambourne, 95, of Riverside, NJ, formerly of Akron, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 in Mt. Holly, NJ.

She is the wife of 51 Yrs. of Harold W. Lambourne of Gallway Twp., NJ. and was predeceased by her first husband, James C. Shumacher. 

Surviving are her daughters; Diane McElwee and Mary Keeler both of Riverside, NJ and Marilyn (late John) McCormick of Akron.  6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also survive. 

She was the mother of the late Elizabeth Dennison.

Nicholas Zinni, 89, of Batavia died Wednesday (November 23, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Batavia on August 25, 1922, a son of the late Frank and Grace Niccolino Zinni.

Mr. Zinni was a prominent attorney in Batavia as well as the Genesee County area.  He retired from practice in the last several years.

He was a life long member of St. Anthony’s Church and graduated from Batavia High School in 1940.  He was a well known football and baseball player on the high school teams.  In the 1940s he played semi-pro football with the “Batavia Essos” and went to North Carolina to play baseball with the Batavia Clippers Team.

From May 13, 1942 through August 22, 1946, he served with the US Army Air Force,  having achieved the rank of Captain.  He was a fighter pilot, flying P-38s in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre.  He served in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia.   His Battle Campaigns included 170 combat missions in P-38s over Bismarck Archipelago, Philippines, New Guinea, Luzon and South Western Pacific.  Nick was the P-38 pilot who confirmed the 27^th aircraft shot down by Richard Bong, American United States Air Force of WWII, in which (Bong) broke the WWI record (26) of Eddie Rickenbacker.  He also flew numerous other fighter aircraft including P-51s and P-47s.

His awards included the Air Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation Medal, Philippine Liberates Medal, Asiatic/Pacific Service Medal and the WWII Service Medal.  He was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for participating in a P-38 squadron nighttime attack of December 26, 1944 against a Japanese convoy that was shelling American positions and airbase Mindoro Island, Philippines.  The U.S. lost 25 out of 75 planes that engaged in that mission.

He was medically discharged from the Air Force with the rank of Captain, having had a service connected malignancy which later resulted in the amputation of his right arm and shoulder.

Nicholas Zinni attended and graduated from the University of Buffalo College/Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar on November 14, 1951.

Early in his law career, he served as the City of Batavia Police Attorney (2 years), and thereafter was in private practice.  He was greatly assisted by his wife (Regina Pultorak Zinni) as legal assistant/secretary until her passing in 1997.

His organization memberships include the Vaness/Strollo Post 1602 VFW 1602 (Commander), Glenn S. Loomis Post 332 American Legion,  Lawyer’s Pilot’s Bar Assoc., (Charter Member), Genesee County Bar Assoc. and the Genesee County Pilot’s Assoc.  He served on the Genesee County Airport Advisory Committee and served as a “Labor Council Attorney” in the 1960s representing numerous injured workers in handling “Workers’ Compensation” claims.

From the 1950s onward (when Batavia Airport was a grass strip with a few small T-hangers), Nicholas Zinni was an active pilot, having owned and flown 5 different airplanes over his career and was a well known figure in local aviation.  He was one of the organizers (along with others) of the Genesee County Pilots Association that was organized to boost aviation in Genesee County.   When active as a pilot, he was generous in giving many local children and their parents their first airplane rides.

In later years, he loved and supported his pets and wildlife.

Surviving is a daughter, Christine Zinni of Batavia, son and daughter in law, Frank V. and Barbara Zinni of Batavia; step grand daughter, Agnieszka Olszewska of Poland;  sister, Sister Mary Agnes Zinni of Texas; niece, Rose Ann Steele of VA, nephew Thomas Rinaldo of FL; cousins, Samuel Martino and family of Batavia, the Zinni family in Vasto, Italy and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Pultorak Zinni, daughter Theresa Zinni Harrison and sisters, Carrie Zinni and Nicolette Rinaldo.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 – 8 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA, where prayers will be Monday at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s site).   Entombment with full military honors will be at the Msgr. Francis Swartz Mausoleum.

The Ascension Rosary Society will gather at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30PM to recite the Rosary.

Barbara Ann Leone, 71of Batavia, died November 24, 2011at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born August 17, 1940 in Batavia, to the late Leo (Mary Fabio) Azzi. Mrs. Leone was a member of Ascension Parish in Batavia. She was a home maker, avid Yankee Fan that enjoyed reading and her pets. She is preceded in death by a brother the late Charles Azzi.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Anthony F. Leone of Batavia; 2 sons Anthony A. (Katherine) Leone of Batavia; Michael A. (Starr) Leone of Batavia; 4 sisters Veronica Martin of Buffalo, Matilda Syracuse; Leona (Philip) Pastore both of Batavia and Virginia (James) Bass of California; 4 grandchildren Michael, Amanda, Kaytalyn and Abbigayle Leone all of Batavia; along with many nieces and nephews.

Wilma M. Ferris, 81 of Perry, died November 22, 2011 peacefully at her daughters home in Perry. She was born in Fillmore, NY on December 3, 1929 to the late Robert (Mabel Maxson) Gillette. Mrs. Ferris was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Fillmore. She loved gardening, bird watching, baking, cats, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Ferris Sr.; granddaughter Jennifer M. Foote; brothers Robert "Boy", Russell Gillette; and a sister Anita "Babe" Carter. 

She is survived by a son Donald R. Ferris Jr. of Perry; daughters Rebecca S. Ferris of Warsaw; Ramona L. Ferris, Nancy J. (Scott) Safford both of Perry; brother Ronald “Ike” (Nancy) Gillette of Fillmore; sisters Althea Bentley of TN; Lois (Lowell) Fancher of Fillmore; 8 grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

East Bethany -- Ruth M Gross, 80, of Stafford, died on the morning of November 20, 2011 from complications of ovarian cancer at her son’s home.

Ruth was born Oct 3, 1931, in Rochester. Over the years she worked for Yale and Towne, Stafford Country Club, Batavia Club, St. Nick’s Club, UMMC, and the Leroy Village Green. She was nanny to several local families and played Santa Claus at UMMC and Leroy Village Green. Ruth touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity.

She is survived by son Dan (Loy) Gross of East Bethany; brother Earl Conte of Spencerport; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son David.

Rosemary N. Stachowski, 81 of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday ( November 20, 2011) at Crossroads House in Batavia.

She was born in Batavia, NY on January 3, 1930, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Loftus Shevlet.

Rosemary was a facility director for various hotels in Long Island and Buffalo.  In recent years she was a store clerk for Wilson Farms in Batavia.  She enjoyed spending time and caring for her family and was noted for lending out a helping hand to her family, friends and even people she never knew.  Rose was also a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s Church) for many years.

Surviving are her loving husband of 18 years, Robert Stachowski of Batavia. Daughter and son in-law, Kathy (Norm) Monachino of Elba. Two sons and daughter in-law, David Dumbleton of Wyoming and Steven (Cynthia) Dumbleton of LeRoy.  Grandchildren, Rocco Pellegrino, Melinda Glor, Jaime Sallome, Steven Dumbleton and Joshua Dumbleton.  A brother, John Shevlet of Buffalo.  She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and step-children.

Family and friends may call Tuesday (November 22nd) from 4-8pm at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Prayers will be recited Wednesday 9:15am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony site).

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
