Eileen B. Pezza

Eileen B. Pezza, 81 of Perry, died July 28, 2011 at Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was born in Warsaw, New York on January 17, 1930 to the late Robert (Gladys Petherick) Cofield. Mrs. Pezza worked for many years at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was a past member of the Warsaw Moose and loved collecting frogs. She is preceded in death by her son Anthony R. Pezza and brother Robert Cofield.

She is survived by daughters Anne Marie (Richard) Faustmann of Huntsville, AL; Mary “Becky” (Bill) McQuillan of West Palm Beach, FL; Barbara (Jocko) Ferris of Perry; sister Audrey (Dale) Davis of NM; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to call on Monday August 1st from 4-8pm at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St. in Perry. Services will be held on Tuesday August 2nd at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.

Helen Fuehrer Zupko

Helen Fuehrer Zupko a long time resident of Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehab, died July 29th. She was 90. Born January 5, 1921 in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Augustive and Harriett (Schultz) Fuehrer. Helen loved books, making up poems, animals and her garden. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a joy in her life. Also preceding her in death are her loving husband John R. Zupko (2002), sisters Dorothy (Angelo) Alfano; Marion (Robert) Barrett; great-granddaughter Madeline Connelly.

She is survived by her only child Linda (Richard Scharet) Connelly of Castile; grandchildren David (Shelley) Connelly of Perry; Casey (Daniel) Wolcott of Perry; Daniel (Tina) Connelly of Gibsonton, FL; Carey (Shannon) Cartwright of Warsaw; 9 great-grandchildren McKensie, Taylor Connelly; Jennah, Jayden, Jordyn Wolcott; Jon, David Connelly; Peyton and Parker Cartwright.

Services will be private with burial at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry. Kristine M. Suttell

Kristine M. Suttell, 56 of Batavia, died July 27, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 9, 1955 in Batavia, NY to the late J. Richard (Mary Jane O'Connor) Suttell. Ms. Suttell worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia and loved taking care of people. She was a member of Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church and a monthly Euchre Club. Kris loved shopping, cooking, Christmas, spending time with her family and grandchildren especially.

Survivors include a daughter Erica (Philip) Grazioplene of Batavia; sons Brian (Fiancé Erika Jakubowski) of Batavia; Nicholas (Danielle) of FL; Jonathan Mruczek of Batavia; brothers Richard (Ann Marie) of Batavia; Edward “Ted” of Depew; Timothy (Paula) Suttell of Batavia; sister Kathleen (Ritchie) Fisher of Caledonia; aunts Elizabeth Suttell of Batavia; Rita O’Connor of LeRoy; 8 grandchildren Miranda, Vincent, Gina Grazioplene; Hunter, Dominic, Miah, Giana, and Lakoda Mruczek along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Bryan W. Phelps, Basom

Bryan W. Phelps, 57, of Basom, NY, passed away suddenly on July 25th, 2011, while working on the family farm. Bryan was born on January 21, 1954, a son of Wayne and Myra (Rudolph) Phelps of Basom.  He was a 1972 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama Central School, and was a partner of Wayne E. Phelps Ent. Inc., of Basom.

He was an active member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, the East Pembroke Grange, Genesee County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange, and National Grange.  Bryan was also a member of New York Flying Farmers, and was a former member and chairman of the Planning Board of the Town of Alabama, and a member and past President of the Genesee Agricultural Society. 

He was one of the founding members and an adamant supporter of the Genesee County Down Syndrome Parent Support Group.  In his spare time, Bryan loved to fly his plane and play his trumpet with his family in the Alexander Fireman's Band.   He also used his musical talents playing for numerous church activities, area pit bands, and entertained at many community and civic events with The Phelps Family Band. Bryan was a long-time vocal advocate for protecting the beautiful farmlands in the Town of Alabama, where he was a life-long resident.

In addition to his parents, Bryan is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Dana Gregory Phelps; a son, Derrick (Diane Edwards) Phelps of Basom; two daughters, Melissa (Larry) Childs of Corfu and Corinne Phelps at home; and one dear grandson, James Childs of Corfu.  Also surviving is his brother, Dennis (Joan) Phelps of Basom; his sister, MaryJo Hinkson of Basom, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He is also survived by his in-laws, Floyd and Betty Gregory of Binghamton, NY.

The family will be present at the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Alleghany Rd., on Friday, July 29th, from 4 to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 to 11 am, where services will be held at 11 am, with the Rev. Karen S. Grinnell officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in East Pembroke.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Alleghany Rd., Corfu, NY 14036 or Genesee ARC, 64 Walnut St., Batavia, NY 14020

AMBER D. THORMAN

     Age 23, of Byron, died Tuesday June 14, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital due to injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle accident. She was born March 9, 1988 in Buffalo, NY daughter of James F. Thorman & Catherine A. Kurzdorfer of Byron and was mourning the loss of her younger sister Caroline L. Thorman who died on May 3, 2011. She was a 2006 graduate of Byron-Bergen High School where she also attended BOCES for auto mechanics. She participated in GCC's 1st year experience in 2010 and then completed her first full year studying criminal justice/forensics and was to return in the fall. Amber was looking forward to summer vacation so she could put more time into gardening which along with cooking she enjoyed immensely. She also enjoyed computers, riding motorcycles and swimming.

     Surviving along with her parents is her twin brother Adam B. Thorman of Byron; paternal grandfather James E. Thorman of Texas along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

     Family and friends may visit from 10-11 AM Saturday July 30 at the First United Methodist Church 8221 Lewiston Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 AM. Memorials in Amber's memory are suggested to the family.

WILLIAM D. "BILLY" MARAGLIANO JR.

Basom- Mr. William D. “Billy” Maragliano, Jr., 22, of Basom, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 24, 2011at home.

He was born October 1, 1988 inWilliamsville, the son of William D. Sr. and Donna Bowlen Maragliano of Basom.

A 2006 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School and 2010 graduate of Buffalo State College, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving along with his parents are his sister, Sara Maragliano of Basom; grandparents, David (Carol) Maragliano of Oakfield and Joan Bowlen of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lucia A. Jones

Lucia A. Jones, 52, of Rochester NY, formerly of Akron, died Wednesday (July 20, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She was born in Batavia, NY on December 8, 1958 a daughter of Wilma Poodry Ianni of Akron, NY.

Lucia was a member of the Turtle Clan on the Onondaga Nation.

In her younger years, Lucia was a member of 4-H where she was active in the Niagara County and State Fairs.  She was awarded for her prized horses and pony.  Lucia was a graduate of Akron Central High School where she played on the boys tennis team and then went on to the University of Buffalo to play on the womens tennis team.  She was a graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Architecture where she achieved several awards on projects.  Lucia was employed by Wilmorite in Rochester, where she was assistant project manager of constructions such as the Irondequoit Mall and Rochester Convention Center.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her fiance, James Page of Rochester. Step-father, Angelo Ianni of Akron. Aunts, Janice (Guy) Falcone of Boston, MA and Suzanne Poodry of Batavia. Cousins, Deborah (Matt) Bace, Anthony (Stormy) Falcone and numerous cousins from Nedrow, NY.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Roy and Julia Poodry and uncle Neal Poodry.

Friends may call Sunday from 3-7 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC., 32 JOHN ST., AKRON.   Services will be Monday 11AM at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Dean officiating.

Interment will follow in the Tonawanda Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

DELTON R. BROCK

     Age 48, of Batavia, died suddenly Saturday July 16, 2011 at home. He was born August 22, 1962 in Brooklyn, NY son of the late Allen R. & Ruby (Henderson) Brock. Delton enjoyed riding his bike, cooking, reading and loved to plant flowers.

     Surviving is his daughter Tanasia Bell of PA; a sister Cecilia Brock of Brooklyn; 4 nephews and a host of great nieces and great nephews.

     Family and friends may attend a 2:00 PM Graveside Service Friday July 22, 2011 at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials in Delton's memory are suggested to the family.

MARY ANN SARAMA-LUCE

Age 73, of Corfu, died peacefully Sunday July 17, 2011 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. She was born January 25, 1938 in Buffalo, NY daughter of the late Stanley & Florence (Szymanski) Trzaska. Mary Ann is well known in the Harness Horse Racing community as an accomplished owner, driver and trainer. She had a life-long passion for the industry, being one of the area's first women drivers having been a part of Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway since 1968 and was a member of the Western New York Harness Horseman's Association. She took pride in her Polish heritage and loved and prepared Polish foods. She was a lover of nature, animals, cooking and baking.

     She is survived by her loving husband of over 20 years Richard "Dick" Luce of Corfu; her children Daniel (Jaqueline) Sudyk of Spencerport; Carl (Michelle Roberts) Surdyk of Boston, NY; Lynette (Gregory) McGiveron of Basom and Scott (Deborah) Sarama of Elkridge, MD; three brothers Stanley (Joni) Trzaska of Lancaster; Raymond (Sylvia) Trzaska of W. Seneca and Gerald (Deb) Trzaska of Getzville; 10 grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank P. Sanfratello

Frank P. Sanfratello  64, of  Horseheads, NY formerly of Batavia died Saturday July 16, 2011 at Elcor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Horseheads NY. He was born  January 20, 1947 in Batavia, NY to  the late Anthony P. and Theresa (Arena) Sanfratello.  Mr. Sanfratello worked construction in the Batavia and Rochester area prior to his retirement. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, member of the American Legion Glenn S. Loomis Post #332, Veness Strollo Post #1602 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the former St. Nicholas Social Club. Frank was a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s Church) and former usher.  He graduated from SUNY Brockport with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. He also belonged to the East Pembroke Sportsman’s Club.  Frank was an avid outdoorsman loving to hunt, fish, and camp.

He is survived by three brothers Anthony A. (Stella) Sanfratello of Colorado, Samuel J. (Audrey) Sanfratello of Painted Post, NY and Daniel Sanfratello of Fairport, NY. Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive.

Friends may call on Wednesday July 20, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, New York.  Prayers will be recited on Thursday July 21, 2011 at the funeral home at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Mary’s R.C. 18 Ellicott St. Batavia.

Charles L. Winter

Charles was born in Warsaw, NY a son of the late Kenneth and Amy Wellman Winter. He was a graduate of Perry High School, he was a self employed dairy farmer his entire life and was a former Town of Perry Assessor. He was a member of the LaGrange Baptist Church, Dairylea Cooperative Inc. and the Grange. Mr. Winter is preceded in death by his first wife Mildred (Yunker) Winter, and a sister Lois Griffith.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Habkirk) Winter; daughter Charlotte Hewitt of Schenectady; sons Curtis (Virginia) Winter; Clayton (Paula) Winter both of Perry; step-children Tracy (Fred) Goebel of Kitty Hawk, NC; Mg. Scott (Laurie) Holden of Kempner, TX; sister Maryanne (Lee) Close of Avon; brother Gerald (Etta) Winter of Perry, loved by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Rose Pierson

Rose Pierson, 76 of Corfu. Died July 14, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. Born November 22, 1934 in Batavia, NY to the late Joseph (Mary Armenia) Ottaviani. Mrs. Pierson was retired from the City of Batavia Inspection Department where she worked for over 25 years.  She was a member of the East Shelby Bible Community Church; she loved to dance especially country and western. She was an avid musician playing organ, saxophone, accordion, piano, guitar and harmonica, an avid artist, she enjoyed feeding birds and growing mums and other flowers. She is preceded in death by her brother Peter Ottaviani.
                                                                                                                        

She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Ronald) Sanders of Waterport, NY and Rebecca (Joseph) Hoak of Alexander, 6 grandchildren Maranda Jackson of Attica, Gregory Narburgh of Oakfield, Sarah Sanders and Veronica Sanders of Waterport, Douglas Hale of East Pembroke, and Jennifer Hale of Batavia. 9 Great grandchildren, one niece Linda Sheehan of Akron, great niece Denise Prior and great nephew James Sheehan III also survive.

Virginia G. Cleveland

Virginia G. Cleveland  86,  of Albion, NY formerly of Batavia died July13, 2011 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born  May 14, 1925 in Batavia, NY to the late  Howard and Henrietta (Smith) Fellner.  Mrs. Cleveland worked for over 35 years at M & T Bank in Batavia.  She was a past member of St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia. She was preceded in death by  by her husband Donald Cleveland in 1998.  

Survivors include a daughter Suzanne (Ronald) Pappalardo of Oakfield, a son Donald (Madelyn) Cleveland of Georgia, a sister Delores Burroughs of Mass. and a brother Richard (Margaret) Fellner of Fld. Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews also survive.

ROBERT H. RUMBLE

     Age 84, of the Town of Batavia, died peacefully Wednesday July 13, 2011 at home. He was born February 20, 1927 in Oakfield son of the late Alfred & Amy (Howard) Rumble, also preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy B. (Prentice) Rumble on Sept. 21, 2001 and by brothers Howard, Donald & Wayne. Mr. Rumble was a US Navy Veteran serving on the Destroyer USS Grayson during WWII. He was retired from Niagara Mohawk as a hot stick lineman after 40 years. He served 30 years on the Batavia Town Planning Board, 7 years on the Tax Assesment & Review Board, past president of the Loyal Order of the Moose Club and was a member of the VFW & American Legion Posts.

     Surviving are his loving children Joanne (Ronald) Spears of Bradenton, FL; Laura (Charles) Yueckstock of Batavia; Diane (Dennis) Zuch of Alexander and John (Elizabeth) Rumble of Ridgeway; brothers Kenneth of Bergen; Dale (Joan) of Batavia and a sister Glenda Klase of Oakfield; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

     Family and friends may visit from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Saturday July 16 and from 12-2 PM Sunday July 17 at the MICHAEL S. Lena R. Palmer

Lena R. Palmer  96 a life time resident of Batavia died July 13, 2011 at the     Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born  March 7, 1915 in Batavia, NY to the late Charles  and Mary D'Angelo Rosica.  She was a former legal secretary for the firm of Darch and Noonan and for the late Hon. Robert E. Noonan, Supreme Court Justice.  After the untimely death of Justice Noonan, she was a Clerk for the Genesee County Board of Elections until her retirement. She was a longtime member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), it’s Altar and Rosary, St. Nicholas and St. Joseph’s Societies. Lena was preceded in death by  her husband Paul Palmer in July 1977, and she was a sister-in-law of the late Ada Rosica, Joseph and Jennie Figlow, Frank and Doris Palmer, Frances Cammarata and John and Charles Palmer.  

She is survived by her son Joseph (Marcia) Palmer and daughter Mary (Paul) Battaglia all of Batavia, brothers Sebastian Rosica of Boca Raton, Florida and Thomas (Rose) Rosica of Batavia. 7 Grandsons Paul (Annette) Palmer of Rochester, Douglas (Christa) Palmer and Steven Palmer of Batavia, Paul (Jennifer) Battaglia of Victor, Mark and Timothy Battaglia of Buffalo and Michael Battaglia of Batavia, 3 great-granddaughters Lauren, Valerie and Jillian Palmer and 2 great-grandsons, Anthony Palmer and Benjamin Battaglia who survive along with many nieces and nephews.
