Richard Edward Miller

Oakfield- Richard Edward Miller, 83, of Oakfield, a Foreman at Graham Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1993 after 40 years of service, died Monday, April 2, 2012at Buffalo General Medical Center.

He was a loving and devoted husband and a family man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Mr. Miller was born March 23, 1929 in Oakfield, a son of the late Charles and Theresa (McGrath) Miller.

He served honorably in Korea, during the Korean War with the Air Force. 

He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia's Worship Site and graduate of Oakfield High School.  He enjoyed computers, expressing himself thru political editorials and genealogy research.  He enjoyed travel to the Adirondacks and to Crazy Horse Monument.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Veronica (Klein) Miller whom he married October 18, 1952; 7 children, Jim (Kathy) Miller, Kathy (Rick dec’d) Hollabaugh, Terry Maid, Carol (Rich dec’d) Weeks, Karen Miller, Steve (Amy) Miller and Sue (Iain) Walker; a sister, Pauline Warner; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. 

He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Sinclair, Michael, Charles, Tommy, Harry, Hank, Peter and Walter Miller and father-in-law of the late Rick Hollabaugh and Rich Weeks.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave., Oakfield.  His Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various charities.  Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com                                    

 

 

EMOGENE C. DENNIS

Age 84, of Batavia, died Saturday March 31, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Camden, NY daughter of the late John & Clara (Goodrich) Diamond also preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hottois and her brothers Lawrence & Stuart Diamond. She was a former employee of Ebling Laundry.

Surviving is a niece Darlene (Charles) Burton of Stafford, a nephew Lawrence (Lynn) Diamond Jr. of NC along with many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces, nephews.

Edward Wojnowski

Edward Wojnowski, 84 of Batavia, died March30, 2012 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born on June 15, 1927 in Konskie, Poland to the late Dominic (Nataljia) Wojnowski. Mr. Wojnowski was retired from US Gypsum in Oakfield, NY. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.    

He is survived by his children Edward M. (Jacquie) Wojnowski of Traverse City, MI; Deborah (Guy) Laesser of LeRoy; Joann (Christopher) Plath of Batavia; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.  

There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Wednesday April 4, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the Polish Falcons Nest #493, 123 South Swan St. Batavia, NY 14020. Interment will take place in Grand View Cemetery Batavia, NY.

Gertrude (Wolfer) Saunders

Gertrude Wolfer Saunders, 97 of Perry, died March 29, 2012 at the Eastside Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing. She was born February 13, 1915 in Hume, NY to the late Edd (Louisa Gilbert) Wolfer. After graduating from Houghton College in 1935. Gertrude taught music in several rural schools in Allegany and Wyoming counties and was a life insurance agent for Baptist Life Association in Buffalo for many years. In 1937 she married Vernon Saunders in Caneadea they were married for 70 ½ years. The couple lived for a few years in Great Valley, Hinsdale, and Franklinville where Vernon taught mathematics. In 1943 they moved to Perry. Perry Baptist Church has been their church home. Gertrude has been a part of the musical ministry in the church serving as choir director and organist for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Saunders who died in 2008, two sisters Erma Wild and Beulah Neygus along with a brother Duane Wolfer.

She is survived by her 4 sons Mark of Retsof, Stephen (Diane) of Pittsford, Dan of New York City, and Dwight (Linny) of Phoenix, AZ; a sister-in-law Maxine Saunders of Wellsville; 12 grandchildren Stephen (Gina) Saunders Jr., Abigail (Ryan) Quisenberry, Tyler (Sarah) Saunders, Autumn (Karl Hujus) Saunders, Emma Lee, Graham, Liberty, Jubilee, Isaiah, Elizabeth, Elijah, and Ruby Grace Saunders, 4 great-grandchildren Nikolas and Salvatore Saunders, Finley Quisenberry, and Charlotte Saunders.

Jay E. Stocking

Buffalo -- Jay E. Stocking, 48, of Buffalo, formerly of East Pembroke, passed away Thursday (March 29, 2012) at the Erie County Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Jay was born May 12, 1963 in Batavia, a son of Duane Stocking and the late Diane (Kemp) Stocking.

Some of Jay's favorite pastimes were spending time with his family and being in the outdoors. He had a great talent for restoring and refurbishing things. Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jay is survived by his father, Duane Stocking, of Ocala, Fla; brother, Stephan (Bobbie) Stocking, of Corfu; nephew, Jesse (Jen) Stocking, of Corfu; niece, Casey (Mike) Graber, of Corfu, and great nieces, Emma and Hailey Graber. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday April 1 at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4-6 Main St., Corfu. At 4 p.m., there will be an informal service, a time of reflection and storytelling celebrating Jay's life. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, East Pembroke, will be held privately by the family.

Faye L. Strollo

Faye L. Strollo, 69 of East Pembroke, died March 26, 2012 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born May 2, 1942 in Batavia to the late Edward (Josephine Fuller) Pfalzer. She is preceded in death by her husband P. William Strollo, brother George Pfalzer and a brother-in-Law Michael Strollo.

She is survived by her sons Scott Strollo of E. Pembroke and William P. (Joanna) Strollo of Virginia, daughters JoAnn (James) Joyce of E. Pembroke and Sharon (Mike Nuwer) Smith of Batavia, brothers-in-law Dave (Dolores) Bielec of Corfu; Larry Strollo of Batavia; a sister-in-law Carol Strollo of Batavia, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Genevieve A. Argulski

Genevieve A. Argulski, 100 of Batavia died March 27, 2012 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born October 2, 1911 in Buffalo, NY to the late John (Margaret Wellman) Tamila. Mrs. Argulski was a 35 year member of the Notre Dame Prayer Group and an 80 year member of Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s Site) where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a teacher at R.G.I.A, a worker at the Octoberfest dinner dance, and she also served on the bereavement committee. She is preceded in death by her husband John Argulski; son Alan Argulski; daughter Connie Argulski; brothers Walter and Chester Tamila; three sisters Mary Swiatck, Sue Bishop, and Helen Rugala.

She is survived by her son Norm Argulski of Batavia and her sister Tosh (Robert) Rhode. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2012 from 5 to 8 PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. CHARLES G. BATTAGLIA

Age 84, of Oakfield, owner and operator of LeRoy Wallpaper & Paint for many years died peacefully Sunday evening March 25, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1927 in LeRoy, NY son of the late Anthony & Mary (Ange) Battaglia. Charlie was a US Army Veteran and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years Mary Lou (Versaggi) Battaglia of Oakfield; loving son Frank Charles (Loretta) Battaglia Sr. of Oakfield and their children Timothy Ryan of Batavia & Frank Charles Jr. of Oakfield; great-grandson Anthony Charles; brothers-in-law Joseph Versaggi of Batavia, Frank (Genevieve) Versaggi of Oakfield; sister-in-law Minnie Galline of Oakfield along with many nieces, nephews & friends.

David W. King, Sr.

David W. King, Sr., 54 of Batavia, was tragically found on March 20, 2012, after he was missing along with his brother since February 19th in Rochester, NY.

He was born July 27, 1957 in Rochester, a son of the late James H. King and Jean LaPiana King of Batavia.

David enjoyed working on and fixing cars.  Most of all he loved being with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Jamie Hamill of Elba, Alicia King of Corfu.  Son, David W. King Jr. (Jacquelyn Hildebrant) of Webster.  Grandchildren, Teiona, Austyn, GG, Azure, Kadence and Logan. Brothers, Harold King and Daniel King, both of Batavia and James King of Florida.  Sister, Donna (Pat) Shandorf of PA.   Sister in-law, Donna Woodworth of Batavia.  Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Michael A. King.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

Michael A. King

Michael A. King, 46 of Batavia, was tragically found on March 20, 2012, after he was missing along with his brother since February 19th in Rochester, NY.

He was born July 25, 1965 in Rochester to Linda LaPiana.

Michael was employed at Bergen Auto Recycling and enjoyed fishing and humor, but most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Woodworth of Batavia. Mom, Jean King of Batavia. Son, Michael A. King, Jr. of Batavia. Step-daughters, Jennifer (Geoffrey) Cole , Christie Lee Colegrove and Desiree Colegrove, all of Rochester.  Grandchildren, Geoffrey, Brody, Guinevere, Tabitha and Richard.  Brothers, Harold King and Daniel King, both of Batavia and James King of Florida.  Sister, Donna (Pat) Shandorf of PA.  Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late David W. King, Sr.

Grace Estler

Grace Estler, 89 of Akron, died Thursday (March 21, 2012) at Absolute Rehab and Nursing Care in Gasport, NY.

She was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 26, 1922 a daughter of the late James and Grace Dressel Bolton.

Grace was the wife of Stuart E. Estler who died on February 14, 1992.  She was an avid gardener and ceramic artist.  Her favorite past time was enjoying her family and cooking for them.  She held a Bachelor of Science Degree from Douglas College in New Jersey and a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Columbia University in New York City where she taught for seven years. 

Surviving are her children; Kathy (Bruce) Truax of Akron, Janet Cox of Akron, Nancy (Michael) Grambo of VA and Stuart L. Estler of MD. Four grandchildren: Christy Truax, Wayne Cox Jr., Phillip and Rory Grambo.  Two great grandchildren: Samantha and Alexander Manning.

Friends of the family are invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the family on Tuesday (Mar. 27, 2012) FROM 6 - 8 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 32 JOHN ST., AKRON. Services will be private with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

Age 61, of Batavia, died Tuesday March 20, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital. She was born December 22, 1950 in Donalsonville, GA daughter of the late Pete & Ida Mae Oliver also preceded in death by many brothers and sisters. Maxine loved to garden, watch western movies & cooking shows and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband Willie Thomas of Batavia; daughter Natasha Thomas of Buffalo; sons Derek of Buffalo, Willie & Veshaun both of Batavia; 15 grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

JOHN COLANTONIO

Age 65, of Batavia, died Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. He was born June 28, 1946 in Batavia, NY son of the late Michael & Margaret (Zanghi) Colantonio also preceded in death by a brother Joseph and sister Susanna Seppe. An Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era, John was a painter by trade and worked for various companies over the years. In his free time he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are his children Phillip Colantonio and Shannon Bolster both of Batavia; brothers Michael & Ron Colantonio; sister Rosalyn Colantonio all of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

STEVEN W. REXROAD

Age 61, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday March 18, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family while under the care of Hospice. He was born February 19, 1951 in Shattuck, OK son of the late Cilfford W. & Thelma (Moss) Rexroad. From his logging company in the Rocky Mountains to salesman, Steve travelled the US and made friends wherever he hung his hat. He enjoyed and was quite knowledgeable of wine & cigars and was an avid collector. He had a passion for the drums, having played in his own "Burton Court Band"; he can be heard on session work for "Tommy James & The Shondells" and was a huge fan of the Beatles.

Surviving is his loving wife of 6 years Karen (McClure) Rexroad of Batavia; sons Steven (Kerri) Nash of Yukon, OK; Brandon Lee (Poppie) Rexroad of Carney, OK and daughter Nichole Marie (Steve) Powers of Charlotte, NC; step-children Brian McClure of the US Navy; Matthew (Autumn) McClure of New Woodstock, NY & Samantha (James) McDermott of DeRuyter, NY; sisters Jana Rae (CB) Kraft of Shattuck, OK & Chloe (Dave) Harrelson of Sarasota, FL; mother-in-law Barbara McClure of DeRuyter, NY; 7 grandchildren, 3 nieces and many friends.

Mary C. Severe

Batavia- Mary C. Severe, 86, died Saturday, March 17, 2012at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Severe was born November 8, 1925 in Elba, NY the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Nicosia Calarco.

Mrs. Severe and her husband, the late Anthony, owned and operated the former Turkey Kitchen Restaurant in Batavia for many years. In addition to the fine homemade turkey and spaghetti dinners they served she was best known for her delicious pies. 

Survivors include two sons; Salvatore (Dianne) Severe of Olalla, Washington and Anthony (Ina) Severe of Phoenix, Arizona and one brother, Carmelo Calarco of Batavia.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Smith and two brothers, Alphonso and Frank Calarco, Sr.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 AM, Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott St. Memorials may be made to Genesee County Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 278 Bank St. Batavia, NY  14020 Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum.
