Frederick J. Nichols, 83 of Corfu died January 16, 2012 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia. He was born March 6, 1928 in Medina, NY to the late Frederick H. ((Louise L. Lennox) Nichols. Mr. Nichols worked 42 years for Niagara Mohawk as a General Line Foreman. He was a WWII Army Veteran, member of the Cornerstone Church in East Pembroke, and an antique car collector. He is preceded in death by brothers Cliff, Robert, and Francis Nichols; sisters Eleanor Myntti, Bonalyn Dombrowski, and Ethel Hayes.   

He is survived by his beloved wife Virginia Nichols of Corfu; sons Roger (Lorna) of CO; Mark of Corfu; Steven (Cheryl) Nichols of Windermere, FL; brother Richard Nichols of N. Collins; sisters Esther Halstead of NV; Mae Kopper of Alexander; Monica (Frank) Neindorf of FL; 4 grandchildren Brooke (Gabe) Milter, Lindsay (John) Carr, Shelby (Shawn) Gibbons, Makaila Nichols, 3 great-grandchildren Colby, Bailey and Jayden along with many nieces and nephews.

Age 89, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday morning January 13, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center with his beloved daughter Cheryl at his side.

He was born in Batavia, August 7, 1922, the fifth of ten children of the late John and Frances (Wozniak) Kowalik. he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth (Williams) Kowalik in 2007, sisters Irene Kulikowski, Connie Brazzell, Delores Slater, and brothers Raymond & Jerome Kowalik.

John was a World War II Navy Veteran of the Bombing Squad 151, Pacific Theater. He was awarded the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, American Campaign, World War II Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, and Air medals.

John retired from Dohler-Jarvis, and worked for the US Census Bureau. He belonged to Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart), Holy Name Society, Sacred Heart 20 Week Club, Polish Falcons Nest #493, where he started the Polish Falcons Bowling League, Polish Civic Club, life member of VFW and D.A.V., Dohler-Jarvis Quarter Century Club, former President of the Dohler-Jarvis retirees, and a member of the former Moose, Elks, and Saint Nicks Clubs; and a lifelong member, former trustee, and a member of parish council, of Sacred Heart Church. John also played baseball for the Polish Falcons. John was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, trap, and fish, bowler, and loved the NY Yankees, playing poker and Bingo, traveling to Seneca Casinos, and wintering in Bradenton, FL.

He leaves behind his daughter Cheryl Kowalik, and daughter by affection Barbara Matarazzo both from Batavia, sisters Barbara Alvut of Batavia, Virginia Kowalik of Rochester, brothers Robert (Betty) Kowalik of Webster, and Arthur (Beverly) Kowalik of N. Chili, sisters-in-law Laura Kowalik, Florence Williams both of Batavia, brothers-in-law Donald Brazzell of Medina, Larry (Lorraine Nolan) Williams, Sister-in-law Terry Williams of Attica, and Arthur (Cathy) Williams all of Batavia, several nieces and nephews, and loving and caring friends.

Myron R. “Breezy” Brasky, Sr., 84 of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday (January 15, 2012) at his residence with his loving wife and children by his side.

He was born in Batavia on February 15, 1927, a son of the late Myron A. and Rose Kapusciarz Brzeczkowski.

 Myron was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean War.  After his service to his country he was a draftsman for Graham Manufacturing Co. in Batavia for 45 years until his retirement.  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, Polish Falcons Nest #493, VFW Veness Strollo Post and the former St. Nicholas Social Club.  Myron enjoyed sports, especially tennis, racquetball, softball and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees and Batavia Blue Devils Basketball.  He was also a parishioner of Ascension Parish and volunteered at the church lawn fete french fry stand for several years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Alice Gibbons Brasky of Batavia, proprietor of The Dancing Place Dance Studio and The Dancewear Outlet. Two daughters, Patricia (John) Chadwick of Batavia and Nancy (James) Schmieder of Springwater, NY. A son, Buddy Brasky of Batavia.  Grandchildren, T.J., Jenilee and David Hagen, Adam, Alex and Jake Brasky, Eric Hiscutt, Stacie (Mike) Beccaria, Gretchen (Sam) Fire, Josh and Laura Schmieder.  One great-grandchild, Cole Hiscutt.  Two sisters, Fran (Herb) Oakes and Eleanor (Loren) Ferruci.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Delores Mitchell.

There will be no prior visitation.  Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday (January 19th), 9:30am at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Church).  Burial will be in the spring at St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.

Batavia- Mrs. Barbara A. (Gravanda) Adams, age 71, loving mother and wife, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at URMC Palliative Care Unit.

Mrs. Adams was born November 14, 1940 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John and Marion Gentile Gravanda.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Merle Adams and two children, David Adams of Batavia and Gina Marie Adams (fiancé Jim Lanson) of Webster; five grandchildren, Riley, Kasey, Jonathan, Matthew and Sarah. She also leaves behind five brothers and sisters,  Connie DiAntonio and Philomena Gravanda, both of Batavia, Vincent "Jim" Gravanda of LeRoy and John Gravante and Irene Lillis, both of  Batavia. There are also several loving nieces and nephews along with the family’s dear and close friend Lisa D’Aurizio.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Ida Spiotta, Katherine Zaccarella, Mary Eckelberger and brothers, Nicholas, John, Fred and Tony Gravanda.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street. Prayers at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.      Age 87, of Batavia, died peacefully Thursday morning January 12, 2012 in the Copley @ Stoughton Nursing Care Center in Stoughton, MA. She was born January 22, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY daughter of the late Karl L. & Esther E. (Nordstrom) Nyquist, also preceded in death by her husband Elwin "Ellie" Rice in 2010 and a sister Esther M. Scoins. A lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Rice was a 1941 graduate of Oakfield High School. She served from 1983 to 1998 as the Elections Commissioner for the Genesee County Board of Elections and also as secretary for the Genesee County Republican Party. Lillian followed politics closely, was always up on current events and was an avid football fan.

     Surviving are her beloved children Richard (Margaret) Rice of Sharon, MA and Karen Anne (Joseph) DeLeo of Ashburn Farm, VA; sister Gertrude Beswick of Batavia; grandchildren Lucas & Katherine along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was born July 7, 1948 in Varanquitas, Puerto Rico son of the late Mariano Matos Colon & Juana Alvarado Maldonado and also preceded in death by a son Edward Matos. He worked in environmental services at United Memorial Medical Center.

     Surviving is his dear friend Linda Cohen of Batavia; son Ryan Matos of Newburgh, NY and daughters Vivian & Stephanie Matos both of Puerto Rico; sisters Anna Matos Alvarado, Teresa de Jesus Matos, Norma Matos Alvarado, Neidi Luz Matos Alvarado all of Puerto Rico and Carmen Nelida Matos of FL along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Virginia M. Dixon, Acker, 82 of Batavia, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born August 13, 1929 in Galton, PA to the late Archie Jeffers and the late Pansy Knickerbocker. Mrs. Acker worked for many years at PW Minor in Batavia and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is wife of the late Willis R. Dixon and Robert Acker, mother of the late Ronald P. Dixon.  

She is survived by children William (Terry) Dixon of NC; Dennis (Holy) Dixon of Painted Post, Peggy (Jon) Landin of Corfu, daughter-in-law Linda Dixon of Batavia; 12 grandchildren Christopher, Alyssa, Brandon, Becky, Jen, Amy, Bill Jr., Bobbie, Danielle, Ronnie, Tina, Stacy, 19 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

James Neel (J.N.) White, Major USAF Ret, passed away at the age of 87 on December 28, 2011 at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Betty McClurg; four sons: James Neel II of Palm Beach Gardens; Dr. Terry (Marialice Foster) of Sterling, VA; Randy (Susan Cady) of Conesus; Devin (Sharron Bryant) of Calera, AL. Seven grandchildren also survive: Bryan of Delray Beach, FL; Teagan of New York City; Kathleen of Philadelphia; Kelly and Regan of Sterling; Neel of Calera; and James III of Katy, TX.

His twin brother, Dennison Lewis (D.L.) of Port St. Lucie, FL also survives.

J.N. was born at home at 106 Lake St., Perry. He graduated from Perry High School in 1942. His lifelong dream was to be a pilot and he enlisted in the Air Force just before his 18th birthday. He received his wings in 1944 and was commissioned a second lieutenant. In October 1944 he scored the most hits ever recorded on a target towed behind an AT-6. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in June 1945 for extraordinary achievement on April 17, 1945, destroying five enemy aircraft. He was also awarded a second Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while on sustained combat operations over enemy territory. He flew his P-51 to an altitude of 45,000 feet, the highest ever recorded at that time. He was shot down over Dunquerque and parachuted to safety, which earned him membership in the Caterpillar Club, a club composed of pilots whose lives were saved by silk “chutes”. He was discharged in May 1946 and served in the reserves until 1984.

In 1947 he organized and played drums in a dance band called The Midshipmen, which played big band music in hotels and at high school proms.

In 1948 he joined Champion Knitwear as an artist and designer. In 1963 he became New Sales Manager for Allen Bailey Tag & Label, Inc. of Caledonia. He also designed displays for Robeson Cutlery of Castile.

In 1960 he established his own company, J.N. White Designs, a manufacturer of screen printed labels, nameplates and graphic overlays. In 1975 he became publisher and editor of the Perry Herald and also purchased the Perry Shopper. The three companies were incorporated as J.N. White Associates, Inc. His son Randy purchased the corporation in 1989. Randy sold the Perry Herald and Perry Shopper in 2005, to focus on the growth and development of J.N. White Designs.

J.N. was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He served as president of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Holy Name Society and was a lector, serving two masses every Sunday. He joined Perry Rotary Club in 1974 and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999 for his service to the club and the community.

He was an avid golfer and past member of Silver Lake Country Club, Locust Hill Country Club and PGA National Members Club. He also enjoyed skiing and swimming. Oil painting and sculpting were his hobbies later in life. He was a history buff who never forgot important events and dates. He spent several years writing his memoir, I Was a P-51Fighter Pilot in WWII, which he self-published in 2003.

There were no calling hours. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Anthony F. Leone, 73 of Batavia, died January 8, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born July 13, 1938 in Batavia to the late Antonio (Louise Russo) Leone.   Mr. Leone was retired from Kodak in Rochester where he worked for many years. He was a member of Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church and loved going to Batavia Downs. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara A. Leone (2011); brother George Leone and sister Catherine Fanale.

Pasquale E. "Patsy" Cesarano. 77, of Batavia, died Friday (January 6. 2010) at Rochester General Hospital.

He was born in Batavia on March 29, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Elnora Griswold Cesarano. 

Mr. Cesarano was a US Army Veteran having served with the 1st Infantry Division during the Korean conflict.  He was retired from Rochester Products division of General Motors where he was a machinist.  He was also a life member of St. Anthony's Church.

Surviving is his wife of over 55 years, Patricia "Patty" Minuto Cesarano whom he married on October 13, 1956.  Five Sons: Joseph (Wendy) Cesarano of Port Charlotte, FL, Thomas (Amy) Cesarano of Albany, NY, Patrick Cesarano of Chattenooga, TN, Robert (Debra) Cesarano of Oakfield and Michael (Denise) Cesarano of Mumford.  Seven grandchildren: Jason (Shannon), Michael, Matthew, Robert Jr., Kristina, Cody and Nicholas Cesarano.  Two great grandchildren; Sabastian and Shiori Cesarano.  Sisters in law: Mary Cesarano of Miami, FL and Mary Cesarano of St. Petersburg, FL. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Ronald F. Yantz, 80 of Byron, died January 5, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1931 in Rochester, NY to the late Charles Barrows and the late Bernice Yantz. Mr. Yantz was an Engineer at Eastman Kodak prior to his retirement and an Air Force Veteran. He was a former member and Past President of the Byron Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife Ilona (Heininger) Yantz of Byron, two sons Ronald P. Yantz of Byron, Robert B. (Lisa) Yantz of Oakfield and a daughter Karen (Michael) Miconi of Batavia. Four step brothers William (Heather) Kruspe of Hilton, Richard Kruspe of Rochester, Russell (Karen) Kruspe of Rochester and Harold (Sue) Kruspe of Hall, NY survive along with 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

     Age 61, of Batavia, died Tuesday January 3, 2012 at his home. He was born March 30, 1950 in Batavia, son of the late Eugene Frances (Waldorf) Jack. A United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a 40 year employee of the Genesee County Highway Dept. Mike was a quiet man who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and classic cars.

     Surviving is his mother Arlene Jack of Williamsville; daughters Terra (Carroll) Breemes of SC and Michelle (Thomas) Roth of Batavia; brother Donald (Gracia) Jack of Byron & sister Caroline Jack of Ohio; niece Amanda; nephews Jason & Matthew along with several cousins and friends.

Lillian Ziegler, 82 of Akron, died Tuesday (January 3, 2012) at her residence.

She was born in Wolcottsville, NY on May 4, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Jago Lindke.

Lillian was a 1947 graduate of Akron Central High School and had lived in the Akron and Wolcottsville area for most of her life.

She is survived by a son, David Lindke of Missouri. Daughter, Debra Blauvelt of Rochester.  Also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday (January 6^th), 11am at Clarence Fillmore Cemetery, Ransom Rd. in Clarence, NY.

Gerald F. Ridley, 92 of Batavia, formerly of LeRoy, died peacefully Tuesday ( January 3, 2012) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

He was born July 30, 1919 in Batavia, the son of the late Frederick and Louise Hawkins Ridley.

Mr. Ridley was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was employed by Fix Printing in Batavia prior to his retirement.   He enjoyed playing golf, reading and was a very handy carpenter.  But most of all he was a hero to his family and will be missed by all who had their life touched by him.

He was predeceased by his wife Arline Hyback Ridley on August 27, 2008.

Survivors include his two daughters, Karen (Brian) Cass of West Falls, NY and Patricia (Bruce MacCowan) Ridley of LeRoy.  Three grandchildren, Alice (Philip) Hendershott, Matt (Louann) Reamer and Melissa (Ryan) Gaebler.  Three great-grandchildren, Daniel and Zachary Hendersott and Alexis Reamer.  Several nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his ten brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be Saturday (January 7^th), 2pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1 West Main St., LeRoy, NY 14482.

Joseph Trigilio, 84 of Batavia, died January 2, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1927 in Oakfield, New York to the late Angelo (Anna Bordinaro) Trigilio. Mr. Trigilio was the former owner of the Track Restaurant in Batavia. He was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), a World War II Navy Veteran, former life member of the St. Nicholas Social Club, the Veness Strollo Post 1602 VFW; he was also the former manager of the Farmer’s Market. He enjoyed bingo and going to the casino with his wife. He is preceded in death by his brothers Nicholas, Sam and Frank Trigilio and Sisters Angeline Paradise, Rose Grasso, and Josephine Papero. 

He is survived by his beloved wife Jennie C. (Recchio) Trigilio of Batavia, son Joseph (Kathleen) Trigilio of Attica, daughters Angela Earle and Tammy (Mark) Schmidt all of Batavia; brother John Trigilio; sisters Ann Liberante and Jennie Paradowski both of Batavia; along with 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday January 6, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 12 Noon in Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), 122 Liberty Street, Batavia, NY. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.
