Patrick L. Salvador 72, of Batavia passed away at his home under the care of his family after a courageous year long battle with cancer on Tuesday October 1st. He was born March 17, 1941 in Batavia. He was the son of the late Joseph V. Salvador and the late Mary Cifelli Salvador.

Pat was retired from Tops Market after 35 years of service where he was the produce manager. He also previously worked at the former Wandryk’s Market in Batavia. He was a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame High School, a long time altar boy and member of the former St. Anthony’s Church. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, a member of the NYS Fox Hunter’s Association and Western New York Fox Hunter’s Association. He was known as the “Produce Man of Batavia” and as the “Appleman”.   

He is survived by his wife Roberta Almeter Salvador of Batavia; son Patrick D. (Jacqueline) Salvador of Liverpool, daughter Susan M (Dennis) Tresco of East Syracuse and three grandchildren Olivia & Joseph Salvador and Natalie Tresco. Two Brothers Louis (the late Mildred) Salvador of Batavia, Joseph (Ruth Ann) Salvador of East Bethany, Sister Rose (John) Polizzi of Rochester. Two step children Mark (Aimee) Falker of S.C., Duane (Stephanie) Falker of AZ, 4 step grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.

M. Joan Viscuso, 83 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday October 1, 2013 at Crossroads House. She was born May 11, 1930 in Buffalo, to the late Albert (Miriam Lowe) Butler. Mrs. Viscuso was employed in medical records at United Memorial Medical Center for over 40 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.  

She is survived by her brother Robert (Jeannie) Butler of California, sisters Marcia (Francis) Bieber of Tonawanda, Roberta (Richard) Haenggi of Williamsville, and Sharon (Ronald) Borrell of Pittsford. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

David F. Thompson, 74 of Batavia, died Sunday evening (September 29, 2013) at Rochester General Hospital.

He was born in Batavia on December 20, 1938, a son of the late Frank and Catherine Neth Thompson.

David was formerly employed by Mercury Printing in Rochester prior to his retirement.  He had a love for animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. 

Survivors include two sisters, Lorraine Coppini and June (Earl) Pundt, both of Batavia.  Also survived by a nephew, three nieces and his canine companion, Maxine.

He was the brother of the late Doris Thompson.

There will be no prior visitation.  Services will be at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Roxanna L. Farrington, 76 of Batavia, passed away on September 28, 2013at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on August 22, 1937 in Batavia to the late Charles (Eleanor Wright) Richmond. Mrs. Farrington worked for many years as a cook at the D & R Depot and the Red Osier Landmark. She is a United States Army veteran, serving as a cook from 1955-1957. Roxanna loved reading, music, knitting and most of all her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son James Thompson Jr.

She is survived by her beloved husband Eldon J. Farrington of Batavia; sons Eldon (Jen) Jr. of Albion; Jeffrey of LeRoy; Richard (Laird) of Rochester; Gregory of Batavia; Keith of Batavia; Timothy of Webster; Kevin Farrington of Batavia; daughters Cheryl (Pat) Coonen of CA; Erin Farrington of Attica; Kellie (Scott) Beechler of Batavia; daughter-in-law Angela Thompson of Batavia; brother Charles (Sandra) Richmond Jr. of Elba; sister Alice Grady of Batavia; childhood friend Joyce (Richard) Godlove of Stafford; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Joan B. D’Angelo, 78 of Batavia, passed away on Friday September 27, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 6, 1935 in Plainfield, NJ to the late Winfred Beck and the late Jane Klespies. Mrs. D’Angelo worked for many years as a Nurse Aide at St. Jerome Hospital. She loved to knit, she and her friends formed a group called The Happy Hookers knitting lap blankets and baby hats. She knitted well over 1,000 baby hats and chances are if you had a baby in the last ten years the baby hat was knitted by Joan. She volunteered countless hours working the night shift at Crossroads House and knitting of course. Joan won multiple Community Service awards for most volunteer hours in a year. She is preceded in death by her husband Arcadio D’Angelo in 1987.

She is survived by sons Frank (Jane) D’Angelo of Leesburg, FL; Dr. Michael (Heidi) DeAngelo of Batavia; Dino (Jill) D’Angelo of Buffalo; daughter Donna (Jeff) Fauth of Corfu; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Oakfield - Kenneth R. "Froggy" Howard, Sr., 90, of Oakfield, an employee for 30 years at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, prior to his retirement in 1981, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at his home in Oakfield.

Mr. Howard was born August 6, 1923 in the Town Of Alabama, a son of the late Herbert and Alice (Cardus) Howard.

He served with the US Army during WWII and was awarded the “Purple Heart” for injuries sustained on January 22, 1945.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper.  He grew and sold blueberries and corn, created Howard's Pure Maple Syrup and loved bluegrass music.

His wife, Irene (Scroger) Howard, died May 28, 2003. 

Survivors include a son, Kenneth "Tad" (Bessie) Howard, Jr. of Oakfield; a daughter, Diane (Kevin) Skelton of Oakfield; his companion of 9 years, Mary Ann Will Brown of Oakfield; 4 grandchildren, John (Lindsey) Howard and Jason (Jackie Oetinger) Skelton, both of Rochester, James (Nicole) Skelton of Buffalo and  Stacy Martino of Oakfield; 3 great-grandchildren, Emma Howard and Evan Howard, both of Batavia and Masyn March of Oakfield; several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Gladys Howard, Reuben Howard, Carl Howard, Bernard Howard and Harold Howard.

Donald R. Carroll, 58 of Batavia died Wednesday morning September 25, 2013 in Strong Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was born March 2, 1955 in Kansas City, KS a son of the late Eddie and Fannie Harris Carroll. After the death of his parents when he was five years old he and his sister, Debra, moved from Chicago to Oakfield, NY where they would be raised by their maternal aunt Ruth Anderson.

Don attended Oakfield-Alabama Central School and was a member of the Class of 74. He was very quiet and shy and learned many great lessons about life from his aunt. She was his inspiration and mentor. Don did not go on to college, but as an adult he devoted his life to making a big difference in the lives of youth and the less fortunate. All of his early life experiences and the lessons he learned from his aunt definitely played a role in shaping the man he would become.

For the last 36 years Donald has lived by his motto “Pay it Forward”. During this time he raised thousands of dollars for needy kids. He started by organizing a biathlon to raise money to send kids to camp and ran this project for 23 years. Donald then decided to focus his fund-raising on assisting with college expenses of needy students by providing scholarships at Genesee Community College. To accomplish this he organized annual 5K and 10K runs. In 2003 Donald decided to raise funds for toys for needy children, thus insuring every underprivileged child he was aware of was not disappointed on Christmas morning. This project has recently been expanded to provide grade school kids with supplies for school and winter coats. Donald R. Carroll the quiet, shy orphan who by chance grew up in Oakfield, NY has become a true “Guardian Angel” of the less fortunate children of Genesee County.

Don has received numerous community awards and certificates for his efforts. In 1997 he was named Geneseean of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, in 2009 he was inducted into the Oakfield-Alabama Central School Hall of Fame, and last November he was named the MVP Health Care Ultimate Game Changer and was recognized across the state for his life work of helping others.

Don is survived by three sisters Georgia Bell of St. Louis, Missouri, Debra Diane Carroll of Buffalo and Anita Carroll of Chicago, IL.  In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brothers George, James, Robert and Michael Carroll all of the Chicago, IL area. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A Celebration of the Life of Donald R. Carroll will be held on Monday September 30, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Grace Baptist Church, 238 Vine Street, Batavia, New York.

John W. Hudson, 69 of Batavia, passed away with loved ones at his side on September 25, 2013 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1944 in Watertown, New York to the late William J. (Lillian Bisnett) Hudson. John was retired from Lapp Insulator in LeRoy where he worked for 23 years.

He is survived by his sister Beverly (Dr. Daniel) Gorecki of Batavia, niece Theresa Gorecki of Batavia, nephew William (Susan) Boudreaux of Pittsford, NY, his special lady and care giver Betty Murray and other devoted friends whom he cherished.

Pavilion ~ Alison A. Walton, age 72, of Pavilion Center Road, passed away in the presence of her loving family, early Tuesday morning (Sept. 24, 2013) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

     Mrs. Walton was born March 3, 1941 in Corfu, N.Y., a daughter of the late Wallace and Evelyn Mann Gordon.

     She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who was truly devoted to her family.  She will be remembered for her selflessness and love for her family and friends.  She also enjoyed reading, baking, gardening and playing cards.

     She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Paul T. Walton, her children; Frank (Paula) Miller III of LeRoy, Jon (Cheryle) Miller of TN, Helen (Jeffrey) Cunningham of LeRoy, David (Deanne) Miller of Batavia, Caroline (Joshua) McAda of TX, Nanette (Michael) Chiulli of Geneseo, Michelle (Thomas) Sherman of LeRoy, Michael (Amy) Miller of Batavia, Michael (MaryEllen) Walton of MI and Richard (Rebecca) Walton of Geneseo, her siblings; Helen (Edward) Layton of NJ, Wallace Gordon Jr. of Penn Yan and Mark (Jean) Gordon of Albany, her 27 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Karen Zambito and her sister in law, Carol Gordon.

GRACE M. NICHOLS – Age 82, lifelong resident of Batavia, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 24, 2013 at home under the care of Hospice, surrounded by her loving children, after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born December 26, 1930 in Batavia to the late William A. and Gertrude M. (Perry) Torcello, Grace married Peter N. Nichols on June 30, 1951 and enjoyed 28 years together until his passing in 1980, also preceded in death by sisters, Mary D. (Torcello) Vallese, Marguerite J. (Torcello) Yerger; brothers, Ralph L., William M. and Michael A. Torcello.

   As a teenager, she worked at Kresgies Dept. Store. She was a homemaker after her children were born until they were teenagers. She then learned dog grooming and was the proprietor of La Petite Poodle Salon until her husband's passing, then went to work for Kodak, Mallory Timers and eventually retiring from Chapin's Manufacturing in 1997.

   Grace was a fun-loving, outgoing person who had a positive effect on everyone she met. She lived life to the fullest and if anything tried to get in her way, she would simply say, "Whatever". She bowled for over 40 years on the Thursday night B league at Mancuso's and golfed on the Tuesday night ladies league at Terry Hills.

   She loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas to visit her brother, sister and dear friend, Paul Tomaszewski. She went on many bus trips and cruises with the "girls". After the news of her cancer, she persevered, enjoyed Monday Bingo at McDonalds and going to the Casino. She enjoyed word search puzzles, her bird feeder, the Buffalo Bills, cooking, Food Network and always loved her "sweets".

   She lived for her children and grandchildren, supporting them in all their endeavors. She was a cub scout den mother and was affectionately known as "Ma Troll" as she loved to go to her sons band engagements, she would be the first one on the dance floor.

   Grace is survived by her children, Calvin (Amy Michalak) Nichols, Guy (Rebecca Fuller) Nichols all of Batavia and Pamela (John) Starowitz of Elba, former daughter-in-law, Roxanne Nichols of Warsaw; grandchildren, Nathan (Christi) Nichols, Cody Nichols, Cory Nichols all of Warsaw, Joshua Secondo, Jake Nichols, Cali Nichols all of Batavia, Sean and Matthew Starowitz both of Elba, Devon Marie Nichols of Batavia and great-granddaughter, Alyvia Fetzer of Warsaw; sister, Rose Marie Torcello-Sharp (Darrel) Canfield, brother, Arthur J. Torcello all of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson and Virginia Bray both of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Elizabeth M. Langdon, 88 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on April 1, 1925 in Buffalo to the late Howard (Lorena Fleming) Morse. She enjoyed baking. In her later years she traveled with her children, but the time she enjoyed most was spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Langdon; daughter Cynthia Sage; grandson Kyle Langdon; brother George Morse. 

Mrs. Langdon is survived by her daughter Karen (Greg) O’Brien of Batavia; son Paul (Debra) Langdon of Rochester; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mary Embroli, 93, of Batavia, entered peacefully into the house of our Lord on September 22, 2013 at Crossroads House in Batavia.

Mary was the daughter of Angelo and Carrie (Costantino) Turazzo and was born on February 9, 1920 at home.  As a young girl, Mary loved roller skating and playing softball with the Thorpe Street Torpedoes.

Mary held several jobs throughout her life, working as a seamstress at the Shirt Factory, then to Doehler Jarvis during the war, Kisiel Die Castings, GTE Sylvania, Oliver’s Candy, which she said was her “sweetest job” ever, and in the meat department  at Star Market.  But her most passionate role was that of a beloved and dedicated wife to her husband, Joseph and endearing mother to their children.  Mary lived for her family. At any given moment, you could find her in the kitchen preparing authentic Italian dishes, making homemade pizza, dozens of cookies for Christmas, and getting her meatless recipes ready for St. Joseph Day celebration.  She made every family gathering special from her beautifully set tables to her picnics in the backyard with food galore and games set up for entertainment, along with the many antics she had in store for all those attending.  She loved playing tricks on everyone and no one ever left those wonderful times without a “dish of goodies” to take home with them.  Mary also enjoyed sewing for herself, her family and her home.  Many family members received crocheted afghans as gifts as well as the patients of the Veterans Hospitals in Batavia and Buffalo.

Mary and Joseph P. Embroli enjoyed 64 loving and dedicated years of marriage before his passing on January 18, 2006.  Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Carl and Angelo, who passed away as toddlers, Josephine (Frank) Barone, Rose Mancuso, Anthony (Hazel) Mancuso, Samuel (Sarah) Mancuso, Joseph (Betty) Turazzo, Frank (Lucy) Turazzo, Grace Zicardi, and Dolores Turazzo; nephews, Guy Irrera, Angelo and Anthony Turazzo.  She was the sole survivor of a hard working and wonderful family.

Survivors include her loving children, Joan (Joseph) Maniace, Enrico (Kathleen) Embroli and Carleen (Danny) West.  Grandchildren, Joseph (Angel), Ronald (Leann), Gino (Lynn) Maniace, Erik (Sandy) Embroli, Tyra (Terry) Read, Christina and Troy West, both at home; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Mary is also survived by her brother-in-law, Lawrence Amato and his family, several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Rochester area.

June E. Stevens, 87 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully Sunday morning (September 22, 2013) at the Batavia Health Care Center.

She was born in Batavia on October 7, 1925.

June was a homemaker for most of her life and was predeceased by her husbands, Edwin J. Vokes  and George Stevens.

Survivors include her son Edwin J. (Molly D.) Vokes of Oakfield.  Daughter, Missy Blackman of Batavia.  She is also survived by five grandchildren.

There will be no prior visitation. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

LeRoy ~ Stella Elizabeth (Liz) Pollock, age 99, formerly of West Avenue, passed away late Wednesday morning (Sept. 18, 2013) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

     Mrs. Pollock was born April 13, 1914 in Dunnville, ON, a daughter of the late Richard and Frances Drake Grills.

     She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who loved to travel with her late husband, Russ.  They thoroughly enjoyed their time with their "winter friends" in Crescent City, FL.   She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Olive Branch 509.

     She is survived by her children, John (Patricia) Pollock of Trumansburg, Janice Cooper of LeRoy, and Joanne (William) Berry of Canandaigua, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son in law, Franklin Cooper.

     Friends may call on the family on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 12:30 ~ 1:30 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), where services will be held at 1:30 PM.  Interment will be in Dunnville, ON.  The courtesy of no flowers is requested with memorials suggested to Howe Memorial United Methodist Church, 252 N. Summit St., Crescent City, FL 32112.
