Mary M. Massaro

Mary was born in Lockport, New York on October 13, 1924 a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Smith. Mrs. Massaro worked for many years at the Batavia Nursing Home as a nurses aide and was also a private home health care provider. She was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She is preceded in death by her husband Dominic J. Massaro who died in 2006; sons Rodney Massaro who died in 2001, Robert Massaro who died in 2011; a sister Rose Martell, brothers Harold and Norman Smith.

She is survived by a daughter; Dolly (Antoni) Kowalski of Perry. a son; Richard (Danielle) Massaro of Ohio, sister-in-law: Donna Massaro of Akron, and brother-in-law: Americo Massaro of Iowa, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, dear friends; Mike Sparling and Lisa Wheeler of Perry and JoAnne Knapp of Warsaw, along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 14th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church in Perry). Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Perry, NY.

Helen M. Emerling

Helen was born in Hamburg, New York on July 18, 1919 a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Feldman Frink. Mrs. Emerling worked on the family farm doing the bookwork and tending to the farms vegetable stand in Boston. They moved to Perry in 1961 when they bought the Davis farm in Perry. She was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish, several bridge clubs, and the mutual friends of the Perry Public Library. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, making wool hooked rugs, knitting, embroidery, quilting and she found great joy in her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerome Emerling who died in 1982 and a daughter-in-law Val Jean Emerling who died in 1980.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Mary Jo (Dale) Hewitt of Perry, Martha (Richard) Garrett of Lewes, DE., 2 sons: John (Elizabeth) Emerling of Perry and Thomas (Margaret) Emerling of Billings, MT., 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sister-inlaws, along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 10th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church in Perry). Interment will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Boston, NY.

LISA M. (SCHIAVI) HALL

Age 51, of Elba, died peacefully Saturday evening January 5, 2013 at United Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, after her courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 11, 1961 in Batavia, daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Ficarella) Schiavi Sr.

Lisa was the former manager at the Family Dollar Store, she enjoyed the casino, shopping at any mall, camping, baking and playing cards with her family, especially at holiday time.

Surviving are her beloved daughters, Staci (Michael) Raphael of Batavia and Amy (Scott Outman) Hall of Depew; former husband James W. Hall Jr. of Elba; brother, Lew (Phyllis) Schiavi Jr. of Spencerport; sisters, Roseanne Taylor of Oakfield and Sharon (Walter) Tucker of Rochester; granddaughter, McCayla Barnes along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends may visit from 10-11 AM on Thursday January 10, 2013 at the Michael S. Alice Barniak

Alice Barniak, 92, of Oakfield, died Friday (January 4, 2013) at her residence.

She was born in Buffalo on June 4, 1920 a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Wozniak Siewierski.

Her husband Michael Barniak died on October 8, 2007.

Mrs. Barniak was a member of Ascension Parish and enjoyed working around her home, flower gardening and sewing. She was retired from the former GTE Sylvania Co. where she worked as an assembler.

Surviving are her children: Anthony (Elaine) Barniak of Byron, Ann (Earl) Roth of Elba and Jeanne (Tom) Covington of Ocala, FL.  Seven grandchildren: David (Lisa) Barniak, Wendy (Greg) Boetcher, Janice (John) Scott, Erik Roth, Jill (Timothy) Yasses, Karen Roth and Alan Roth. A sister, Gertrude Mason of Batavia. Twelve great grand-children and several nieces and nephews also survive along with her dog "Lady".

She is the mother of the late David Barniak who died in 1943, grandmother of the late Sheryl Covington who died in 1977 and
sister of the late: Rose Tomaszewski, Clara Klimczak, Florence Russell, Regina Dixon and Irene Wenzka.

Friends of the family are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the family on Wednesday from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA,  where prayers will be at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Church) with Rev. Eugene Slomba as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Ruth Marjorie Fronk

Ruth Marjorie Fronk, 97 of Batavia died Wednesday Jan. 3, 2013 at home. She was born in Albany, NY April 11, 1915 and had been a Batavia resident since 1945. She was a veteran of the Women’s Army Corp in WWII; a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia; taught with Literacy Volunteers; was on the YMCA Board of Directors. As an Artist She belonged to many local and regional art groups as well as Longboat Key Florida; winning many art awards over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband James William Fronk (1963) and her son Jonathan Robert Fronk (1995).

She is survived by her children James A. Fronk and Deborah (Frank) Vanlandingham; her step daughter Diane (Richard) Platt; cherished granddaughters Katherine (Ted) Fronk Clark, Alyssa Fronk, and Jonna Fronk: great-grandson James Clark and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Blair L. True

Blair was born in Brockport, New York on January 18, 1930 a son of the late E. Landis and Helen Blackford True. Mr. True was a graduate of Spencerport High School and Cornell University. He was a dairy farmer for many years with his family in Spencerport and moved to Perry in 1979 to operate True Farms with his sons. He was a town justice for 25 years with the Town of Perry. Blair was a member of the First Congregational Church of Perry Center, he was a former President of the Churchville Chili School board, a trustee for the Maple Grove Cemetery in Ogden, a member of the Farm Bureau, Dairyman’s League and Holstein Club. When he could find time for himself and family he enjoyed hunting, boating on Lake Ontario, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, ballooning, horses, and enjoying their cottage on Conesus lake. He is preceded in death by a sister Jane Richards.

He is survived by his wife; Ruth E. Mosholder True whom he married on September 11, 1954, 2 daughters; Nancy (Philip Harnden) McGuire of Spencerport and Ellen True of Livonia, 4 sons; Glenn (Amy) True of Perry, Jeffrey (Stacia) True of Perry, Brian (Diane) True of Perry and Barry (Sharon) True of Warsaw, 2 cousins; Beverly Brazill of Ca. and John Hawkins of Va.,14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Bruce R. Branton

Bruce R. Branton, 73 of Batavia passed away after a short illness on January 2, 2013 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born February 7, 1939 in Batavia to the late Robert T. Branton and the late Dorothy (Ray) Hamilton. Bruce was retired from Grand View Cemetery. He loved riding on his scooter with his dog Heidi and his friend Bruce around the city. Bruce also enjoyed taking his dog to the Genesee County Nursing Home to visit the residents including Everett. Mr. Branton is preceded in death by his daughter Tammy L. Branton in 1998; brother-in-law Chuck Keech; sister-in-law Margie Schum. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Peggy (Keech) Branton of Batavia; brother Gary (Nancy) Hamilton of GA; sister Jean (Steve) Zajaczkowski of Batavia; sister-in-law Jean (Mike) West of Gasport; brothers-in-law Alan Keech of Batavia; Maynard Schum of Varysburg; along with many nieces and nephews. Special friends Kelly & Trevor Day & family; Grant  & Dolan Matla & family.

Evelyn G. (McCall) Flint

Evelyn was born in Bliss, New York on August 1, 1917 a daughter of the late Allen J. and Gertrude Helser McCall.She was a graduate of Bliss High School where she was the class valedictorian. She worked with her late husband on the family farm until his death in 1966. She was a member of the Castile Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star in Pike, Ladies Luncheon Club of the Hermitage Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Club in Pike. Evelyn enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, embroidery work, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ellsworth M. Flint who died on March 3, 1966 and a granddaughter Lori Stevenson who died in 2010.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Marion (Paul Baker) Wagner of Castile, Marilyn (Gerald) Fuller of Gainesville, 2 adopted grandsons; Douglas (Linda) Flint, Jeffrey (Teresa) Flint both of Pike, 2 grandchildren; Lisa (Brian Deel) Stidfole of Conesus, Bradley Stevenson of Gainesville, 9 great grandchildren; Eric, Daniel, Steven, Robert, Jessica, Rachael, Cody, Stacy and Kelly, and 2 great great grandchildren; Kyra and Addison.

Lorraine M. Murray

Lorraine M. Murray, went to be with her Lord and personal savior Jesus Christ on December 21, 2012. She graduated from high school near Roanoke, VA and then went on to graduate from Monroe Community College where she received her associates degree in Business Management and Accounting.

She is survived by her husband Charles S. Hoover; long time friend Thomas A. Alexander; sister Diana Aesy, niece Victoria Aesy, nephew Charles Aesy III, aunt Jeanette Ellis, son Mr. & Mrs. Shawn M. Hoover, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, along with her extended family and friends at the LeRoy Heritage Manor.

A Celebration of Life in Christ Our Lord and Savior will take place on Saturday January 5, 2013, 2:00 PM at the LeRoy Heritage Manor 8678 Lake Street Rd. LeRoy, New York 14482.

MARJORIE E. HERINGTON

Age 97, of Batavia, formerly of Greece, NY, died peacefully Tuesday January 1, 2013 at the Batavia Health Care Center, her family at her side. She was born March 28, 1915 in South Livonia, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Sharp) Grant. She was also preceded in death by brothers Ulysses S. (Red), John, Barney and Bill Grant.

Marjorie lived a wonderful active life, enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her many, many dear friends. She was a member of the Wayland Methodist Church.

Surviving are her loving children, sons, Ernest (Norma) Herington of Lima, Roger Herington of TN; daughters Virginia (Harry) Tesch of Corfu, Nancy (Leland) Durkee of Honeoye and Beverly Ross of PA; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Leonard P. Campobello

Leonard P. Campobello, 100 of Clarence, formerly of Batavia died January 2, 2013 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarence. He was born November 30, 1912 in Batavia to the late Salvatore (Margaret Mondo) Campobello. Mr. Campobello was a farmer for many years. He was a past member of Resurrection Parish-St. Mary’s Church, the St. Nicholas Club and the Elks Club. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Viola M. (Wasnock) Campobello who passed in 2005; siblings Josephine (Ross) Campesi; James Campobello; Russell (Mary Vangalio) Campobello; Mary (Charles) Sciacca; Sam (Mary Tassone) Campobello; Sadie Gennaro; Harry and Rosario Campobello.  

He is survived by a brother-in-law Anthony Gennaro, sister-in-law Mary Campobello along with many nieces and nephews.

Irene F. Gentile

Irene was born in Buffalo, New York a daughter of the late John and Victoria Rynkowski Domachowski. Irene worked for the former Perry Knitting Mill, Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, Perry Herald - Perry Pennysaver , helped her parents at the Commodore Hotel and volunteered at the Holy Apostles thrift store. She was a 35 year member of the Holly Apostles Episcopal Church in Perry, a member of the Perry Garden Club, and Perry Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed oil painting, various crafts, and playing bingo. She is preceded in death by sisters Genevieve Canby and Loretta "Lori" Domachowski, aunt Josephine DeAfflito.

She is survived by her son Robert Renz of Dallas, TX, 2 nephews; John Canby of Rancho Cordova, Ca. and Michael Canby of Hailey, Ok. along with many friends.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on January 5th, 2013 at the Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Perry at 10 A.M. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery, Perry.

Blanche E. Wetzel

Stafford - Blanche E. Wetzel, 92, of Stafford, passed away Wednesday, (December 26, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Wetzel was born March 20, 1920 in Morganville, a daughter of the late Fred and Margaret (Lesner) Hawker.

She was a long time member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stafford and one of the founding members of the Stafford Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.  Blanche enjoyed collecting and making dolls and bears.  She also liked to spend time doing needle point and crocheting.

She is the wife of the late John Wetzel, who died in 1984.

Surviving are a son, Ronald (Patricia) Wetzel of MD, a daughter, Eleanor (late David) Scott of LeRoy, grandchildren, James Wetzel of MD, Carolyn (Andrew) Meyer of CO, Julie (Jonathan) Kopp of MD, and AnneMarie Wetzel of MD; nieces, , Brenda Wetzel of Batavia, Dora (David) Henry of Stafford, Carrie Booth of Akron, Margaret Dillon of LeRoy.  6 great-grandchildren also survive.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph (late Edith) Hawker, Marshall (late Sarah) Hawker, Clifford Hawker and Joseph Hawker; and her sister, Mabel (late James) Baker.  

Friends may call on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. DOROTHY JANE (MERLE) DOLAN

Age 84, of Attica, died suddenly Friday morning December 28, 2012 at the Erie County Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 14, 1928 in Attica, the youngest child of the late Augustus and Pearl (Rykert) Merle. She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Charles J. Dolan in 1982 and Thomas E. Rider in 2010; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry (Dorothy) Merle, George (Dorothy) Merle, Richard (Alice) Merle and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Ralph) Merrill.

Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Attica High School and was employed by New York Telephone Co. in Batavia. She was also the Alexander High School office secretary for 24 years. She was an active member of St. Joachim and Anne R.C. Church in Attica, avid gardener and member of the Attica Garden Club, participated in a weekly card club, enjoyed golf, was a former member of the Attica Golf Club, loved to travel, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Most of all, she loved her family and the time spent with them.

Surviving are her beloved children: John (Jule) Dolan of Geneva, James (Cindy) Dolan of Bennington, Mary Jo (Douglas) Matla of Oakfield, Kathleen (Quentin) Fitch of LeRoy and Karen (Don) McJury of KY; sister-in-law, Helen Merle of Alden; grandchildren, Jaime & Sean Dolan, Erin (Jason) Dressel, Lindsey (Zachery) Clark, Kacy (Jessica) Dolan, Grant (Rochelle) Matla, Dolan (Sophie) Matla, Gregory (Alyssa) Fitch, Adam Fitch, John (Katie) McJury, Brenna (Kyle) Richardson and Eric (Jodie) McJury; 9 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donald W. Schultz

Darien -  Donald W. Schultz, 83,  of Darien, NY passed away at his home Thursday (December 27, 2012).    Donald was born June 15th, 1929, in Buffalo, son of the late Herman and Viola (Neubauer) Schultz.

He served with the United States Navy aboard the USS Verdin during the Korean War, retiring from Westinghouse in 1985 and the Pembroke Thruway service station in 1991.

He enjoyed classic cinema and the company of his children, grandchildren, and dog Blackjack.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Felicia Ann Rogowski Schultz in 1991 and son Roger in 1985.

He is survived by his children; sons William of West Seneca and Pastor Kenneth (Rhonda) Schultz of Randolph, daughters Beverly of Tuscon, AZ, Francine (Dennis) Alessi of Darien, and Kathy (Daniel) Ferrara of LeRoy.  He is also survived by his grandchildren -- Darrell Gulledge, Rebecca Hazen, Robert and Jill Paxon, Jason Alessi, Jonathan, Matthew, and Mark Schultz, Marygrace and Daniel Ferrara -- and 6 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be welcomed by the family from 4-7 PM Sunday at the C.B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4 Main St., Corfu.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Darien Fire Company PO Box 135, Darien Center, NY 14040.
