fragnito_josephine_-_photo1.jpgJosephine Fragnito, 88 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (May 11, 2018) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born February 11, 1930 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Ralph and Mary DeFino Recchio

Josephine was a lifelong resident of Batavia. She was employed by the Batavia Downs Race Track for 32 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed Cruises and casinos, but most of all she enjoyed her family and the gatherings they shared through the years.

She was the wife of the late Mario Fragnito. Mother of the late Joseph Fragnito and Marie Fragnito. Grandmother of the late Richard Funke and sister of the late Frank Recchio, Mike Recchio, Mary Schiavone and Margaret Schlossel.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia (Richard) Funke of Rochester. Daughter in-law, Patricia Fragnito. Grandchildren, Melissa (Dan) Mahar, Jamie (Eric) Peskor and Vanessa Aquino. Great-grandchildren, Jack, Tate and Finn Mahar, Leah, Ryan and Kyle Funke, Makennah, Kylie, Mela and Jathan Aquino and Luke Peskor. Sister, Jennie Trigilio and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Monday (May 14th) from 10:00am -11:00am at Ascension Parish (So. Swan Street), where her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am.

Patricia L. Block, 77, of Orchard Park, formerly of Attica passed away Thursday May 10, 2018 at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo. She was born on April 12, 1941 in Batavia to the late Leon and Betty (Kearney) Cooley. In addition to her parents, Patricia is predeceased by her brother; Jim Cooley.

Patricia will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children; Thomas (Linda) Block of East Aurora, Cathy Block of Holland; siblings Denise (Roger) Durfee of Attica, Peggy (Everett) Snyder of Attica; sister in law Mary Cooley; grandchildren Melanie (Michael) Fechter, Leighanne, Matthew and Thomas Block; great-granddaughter Alexa Fechter.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held privately for the family. Patricia will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.

Batavia - Alan Shadders, 57, of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home in Batavia.

Alan was born September 13, 1960 in Rochester, a son of the late Al and Evelyn (Nottarrani) Shadders.

Alan enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and the company of others.  He worked in sales at Crazy Cheap Cars in Oakfield and will be remembered for his avid sense of humor.

Survivors include his children, Rachel (Dave) Morbey of Bedford, NH and Jack Shadders of Batavia; grandson, Henry Morbey;  three brothers, Chris (Karen) Shadders of Pittsford, Steve (Theresa) Shadders of Fairport and Michael Shadders of Rochester; a niece, Nikki and nephews, Steven, Mike, Jacob, Tyler and Joshua.  

Calling hours are Thursday (May 17th) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. also on Thursday (May 17th).  Alan will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

Batavia - Willard H. “Willie” Bennett, II, age 39, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his home.

Willie was born February 12, 1979 in Batavia, a son of Willard H. Bennett, I of Perry and Carol Myers Bennett of Batavia.

Surviving along with his parents are his seven children.

He is predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Bennett.

Batavia - Mrs. Frances R. Ford, age 101, of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded with the love of her family on May 8, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Born July 12, 1916 and raised in Batavia, Frances was a daughter of the late Albert and Laura Rumsey.

Frances was a longtime member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Stafford, the Batavia Senior Center Quilting Club, the Holland Land Office Historical Society, the Stafford Historical Society, the Older Boys and Gals Club and the Tonawanda Valley Collectors Club. She was an avid golfer, seamstress and gardener. Frances enjoyed traveling to Florida and attending social events. She, along with her late husband Wayne, were avid square dancers.

Her husband, Wayne L.  Ford, passed away in 1981.

Frances is survived by her son, Wayne A. (Mary) Ford of Stafford; a daughter, Laura (Ray) Ladd of Bethany; a sister, Elizabeth (Warren) Ward of Batavia; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She is the mother of the late Jack Ford and sister of the late Arthur Rumsey, Albert W. Rumsey Sr., George Rumsey and Howard Rumsey.

Friends and family may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will immediately follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Colleen O’Connor will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Stafford Rural Cemetery. Bergen - Ann E. Bater, 79, of Bergen, an employee of Eastman Kodak Co. for 21 years prior to her retirement in 1998, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at her home in Bergen.

Mrs. Bater was born October 21, 1938 in Ogden, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Imogene (McIntyre) Aradine.

She was a member of Bergen United Methodist Church, and enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include a son, Daryl (Sandy) Bater of Bergen; 3 grandchildren, Kenneth Bater, Steven Bater, Zachary Bater, all of Bergen; 2 brothers, Robert (Jackie) Aradine and David (Marie) Aradine, both of Bergen; several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Roy Aradine and Emily Bater.  

Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 S. Lake St. in Bergen.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bergen United Methodist Church, P.O. american_flag.jpgJEFFREY LYNN SHULTZ ~ Batavia

Age 56, of Batavia, NY, died peacefully Thursday May 3, 2018 at the Batavia Healthcare Center after a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy. He was born in Batavia, June 1, 1961, a son of the late Kenneth Shultz and Sandra (Metz) Shultz-Pfeifer, also preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Lee Shultz.

Jeff loved and served honorably in the United States Marine Corp from 1979-1983. He was employed for the former O&K Trojan, Whiting Overhead Door and most recently as a Walmart greeter before his illness kept him from working. He enjoyed weightlifting, loved his cats, NY Yankees & Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed sitting down to a good meal. Jeff's love of the Lord and his inner strength met his illness head on and fought it with dignity and grace.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Lisa (Zybeck) Shultz of Batavia; sons, SPC Thomas (Melinda) Wiechman and Michael Wiechman; granddaughters, Amelia and Skarlett; brother, Edward (Charlene) Shultz of Elba along with aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

The Shultz family will be present from 3-7pm Tuesday May 8, 2018 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where funeral services will begin at 7pm followed by military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory are suggested to the family.

Bergen - Claire L. Henry, 70, of Bergen, a former Financial Clerk at Lincoln Rochester, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Crossroads House, in Batavia.

Mrs. Henry was born October 2, 1947 in Rochester, a daughter of the late George W. (Jr.) and Marion I. (White) Mayne.

She attended and graduated from the Byron Bergen Senior High School, was a member of the Bergen United Methodist Church for over 45 years and was a member of its Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group.   She loved animals but was especially fond of her beloved dog Molly. She will be remembered dearly for her generosity and spunky personality.

She is survived by her husband, David G.  Henry, whom she married on March 16, 1967; 3 daughters, Michele Doyle (JC) of Bergen, Tracy Henry (Scott) of Rochester and Rebecca Howe (Jake) of Marathon; a grandchild, Jayden Doyle of Bergen, a brother: George W. (Helen) Mayne, III; a brother-in-law, Henry Peck and a niece, Norleen (Darrell) Aubin of Corinth.   

She was the sister of the late Barbara Joan Peck (Mayne).  

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc., 51 S. Lake St., in Bergen.  Services will be at 11 am Friday at the Bergen United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Mt. mcclurg.jpg  Marie Emily (Dart) McClurg, 64, of Alexander passed into the presence of her Lord on Friday, May 4, 2018. She was born on May 3, 1954, a daughter of the late Hobart and Beatrice Dart.

Sister of the late David (2003), the late Margaret Valderey (2014); Gloria (Wafik) Girges and Elaine Dart; mother of Allison (Wes) Brown, Jeremy (Susan) McClurg; grandmother of Jenna Pangrazio (Brody), Brianna (Chase) Mazzela, Lauren and Teagan McClurg, Addison Brown; great-grandmother of Alaina Hoffmeister; dear friend of many years Jeff Housenecht and family, Jay (Carrie) and grandchildren Zach and Lily. Marie has loving nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Marie worked as a home healthcare nurse for many years caring for the dying patient. She also worked at St. Luke’s nursing home and at Genesee nursing home as a treatment nurse. Marie’s strong faith and courage has been obvious all of her life in giving and sharing to family and community.

Family and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday May 8, 2018 from 12:30-1:00PM at the West Bethany Baptist Church, 10333 West Bethany Road, East Bethany NY, 14504. A 1:00PM Celebration of Marie’s life will immediately follow visitation at the church with Pastor Jim Kirsch officiating. She will be laid to rest in West Bethany Cemetery.

Bergen - Roger D. Hopkins, 70, of Bergen, a driving instructor with Batavia Driving Academy prior to his retirement, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home in Bergen.

Mr. Hopkins was born February 8, 1948 in Batavia, a son of the late Reginald and Ida (Stringham) Hopkins.

He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War.   He was a former firefighter, serving with the Byron Fire Department for 17 years and later, the Bergen Fire Department.  He enjoyed tournament bowling, fishing and NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his wife, Donna J.  (Elliott) Hopkins, whom he married on October 5, 1985; a son, Gary (Nikki) Hopkins of Bergen; his mother-in-law, Nancy Szymanski of Holley; 3 grandchildren, Connor, Logan and Charlotte; 3 siblings, Irv (Marty) Hopkins of GA, Donna Richardson and Leon Hopkins, both of LeRoy; a sister-in-law, Debbie (John) Sibbald of Chili; a brother-in-law, Walter (Allison) Elliott, Jr. of OR; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was the brother of the late David Hopkins.  

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc., 51 S. Lake St. in Bergen, where services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018.  Burial will be in Mt.
