LeRoy ~ Regina (Van Alst) Steen, age 94, passed peacefully on November 16, 2022.

     She was born September 18, 1928 to the late Bertha (Criger) (Van Alst) Morrison and Harry Van Alst. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Pete Steen.

     She loved her family, swimming, the Adirondack camp and car races.

     Regina is survived by daughters Barbara Steen, Nancy (Mike) Glover, Dorothy (Ed) Schramm; special granddaughter Ali (John) Dawson; nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, Pete, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Jane (Fred) Grasby, Rita (George) Carmichael, Dorothy (Abe) Machols and step-father, Ellsworth Mike Morrison.

     At Regina’s request, there will be no visitation or services.

Batavia - George E. Bell, 71 of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital.

George was born Saturday, March 31st, 1951 in Batavia, a son of the late Earl Bell and Ruth Moore Bell.

George was self-employed as a contractor for nearly 40 years. He has subcontracted to Will’s Carpet One, Imperial Kitchens, Frontier Kitchens, Kitchen World, and Wortzman’s Furniture where he spent the majority of his career. Most recently, George was employed as the Maintenance Director at Leroy Manor, in Leroy, NY. A hard-working, quiet man, with a wry sense of humor he loved being home with his family after a hard day at work. George was the consummate family man. He loved working on and at his home, watching home improvement shows, and Fox News. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Sally M. (Little) Bell whom he married on August 21, 1970; his children, Kevin C. Bell, of Upper Jay, NY and Heather R. Bell of Oakfield; his granddaughter, Clara Jean Murphy; his brother, Robert (Deborah) Bell of Elba.  

He is predeceased by his son Timothy E. Bell who passed away on January 19, 1992. His parents, Earl and Ruth (Moore) Bell also predeceased George.

There are no prior visiting hours.  George's Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Road, Batavia. Julie as born on June 26, 1954, in Batavia, a daughter of Charles A. and Eleanor Peterson Herman. She was the aunt of the late Nicole Elizabeth Herman and step daughter of the late Patricia J. Herman.

Julie was a 1972 graduate of Pembroke Central High School, where she excelled in athletics. She was a 1976 graduate of SUNY Cortland and a member of Arethusa Sorority. In the late 1980’s,  Julie went back to school at Simmons Institute of Funeral Service and in October of 1989, she received her license to be a funeral director. She immediately went to work with her Dad in the family business, C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. She maintained her license up until June of 2022. Julie enjoyed all sports and would go and watch the local games at Pembroke High, especially the girls sporting events. Julie was a life long Yankees fan. She was a longtime member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church.

Julie is survived by her life-partner, Patricia L. Marvin; her brothers, Charles B. (Lori) Herman and Richard B. (Nicole Hornstein) Herman; her sister, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” (Sander) Abramson; nephews, Jason T. Herman and John D. Baudhuin; niece, Jessie L. (Michael) Molle`; great nephews, William G. Molle`, Jack Charles Molle` and Alexander J. Baudhuin; great niece, Kate Elizabeth Molle`; several cousins and a host of dear friends.

Family and friends may call Friday, November 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th, at Noon at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, 63 Allegheny Street, Corfu, NY with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be private in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

She was born Tuesday, September 13th, 1955 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Lorne Horton and Nancy Horton. 

Pamela married the love of her life, Darwin Weller, on May 31, 1986. She worked as a CNA for Genessee County Nursing for 35+ years until her retirement in 2015. Pam was easy going and enjoyed, crafting shows, electronic games, card games, soap operas, and lifetime movies. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida, spending time with her family, and loved the Christmas season. 

Pamela is survived by her husband, Darwin Weller; brother, Peter (Michele) Horton; nephew, Kevin Horton; niece, Katie (Pat) Horton; uncles, Kennith (Louise) Post, Sherm Horton and several cousins.

In death Pamela is reunited with her Parents, Lorne and Nancy Horton and a brother, Michael Horton.

Mrs. Schmieder was born February 3, 1930 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Millard and Margaret (Schuster) Calkins.

Betty had a great love for animals and cared for many throughout her life. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling with her late sister, Carol.

Surviving are her children, Michael (Terry) Schmieder of Alexander, Stephen (Robin) Schmieder of Alexander, Paula (Jeff Welker) Lord of Georgia, Mary (Joe Wyland) Schmieder of Batavia, Eric Schmieder of Alexander, Joanne (Joseph) Laney of Alexander, and Paul (Lynette) Schmieder, Jr. of Alexander; daughter-in-law, Lisa Schmieder of Stafford. 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schmieder, Sr.; brother, Dean (late Chris) Calkins, and sister, Carol (late Jim) Geise.

Scott was creative, a true artist at heart. He spent his free time reading, writing his novel, crafting leather accessories, telling stories, molding tin soldiers for his kids and grand-kids, painting landscapes, and journaling, among many other projects. He loved his family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Scott is survived by his wife of 29 years, Valerie LeTourneau; his children, Lance (Emily) LeTourneau, Lilly LeTourneau, and Wesley LeTourneau; his grandchildren, Gavin LeTourneau, Garret LeTourneau, and Grant LeTourneau; brother, Guy (Cathy) LeTourneau; sister-in-law, Jill LeTourneau; and his loyal dog, Pugsy.

In death, Scott is reunited with his parents, Roger and Vivian LeTourneau; his brother, Mark LeTourneau; and his three bulldogs, Margaret, Abigail, and Waldo.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Scott will be laid to rest in Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke. Jim graduated from Pembroke High School, Bryant & Stratton College, and was a retired accountant who enjoyed working with numbers.  He loved music and played guitar and sang vocals in many local bands throughout his life.  He especially loved The Beatles.  Jim looked forward to football games and cheering on the Buffalo Bills.  In retirement, Jim was passionate about photography and bird-watching.  He loved having cookouts for the family, spending time outside working on projects, and building model train sets.  He had some of the best stories and enjoyed sharing them with the people closest to him.  Jim’s favorite activities were having family game nights, and as a brownie connoisseur, would bake the best brownies each time.  ‘Thursdays with Gracie’ was something he looked forward to every week.  He was dedicated to watching his favorite television shows with friends and family throughout his illness.  Above all things, he was a devoted grandfather (Papa) to Jameson and Vaeda, playing ball on the trampoline, splashing in the swimming pool, and playing hide and seek with squirt guns.  Jim was strong, kind-hearted, and kept his witty sense of humor up to the very end.  

Surviving are his children; Kolleen Cassidy (Bradley Smith), Katrina O’Connor (Mark), and Karah Cassidy, loving mother of his children Kimberly Cassidy, longtime companion Marjorie Ribbeck, her son Jared Cecere (Kiana Perry) and their children, two grandchildren, and a niece and nephew.

Family and Friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street in Batavia (Please use School Street entrance). Jim's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 8656 Church Street in East Pembroke. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia will be private. He was born January 23, 1936 in Batavia, a son of the late William and Elsie Tiede Sage.

Mr. Sage served his country with the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He was formerly employed by Doehler Jarvis in Batavia prior to his retirement. Charles was a member of the Cornerstone Church in East Pembroke. He enjoyed old classic cars, attending car shows, feeding animals around his home and gardening.  Mr. Sage was also a supporter of his fellow Veteran and would do anything he could for them. He loved his tractor, but most of all enjoyed time spent with family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving companion and best friend, Barbara Plock of Virginia. Daughter, Michelle (Bob) Grazioplene of Batavia. Grandchildren, Alex Grazioplene and Lyndsey Grazioplene. Brothers, Duane (Joanne) Sage and Lee (Diane) Sage. Sisters, Marilyn (late William) Kaness, Beverly (Bob) Bobzin and Diane Parker. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late William (Nancy) Sage, Paul (Peggy) Sage, Anita Sage and Eva Jane Sage.

Friends and family are invited to share memories on Thursday (November 17^th) from 10am-12pm at the C.B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4-6 Main St., Corfu, NY, where a funeral service will commence at 12pm. He will be laid to rest in the North Pembroke Cemetery.

Holley/Batavia: Rhoda Broekhuizen, 91, passed away peacefully November 10, 2022, into the arms of her best friend and loving husband Ted. Mrs. Broekhuizen was a beloved teacher to many students over the years at Holley Elementary School. She enjoyed going to the casino with her friends, nieces and loved to travel to Maderia Beach FL., with her husband Ted. Rhoda enjoyed writing children’s books and even had one published. Rhoda was an active member of the Holley First Presbyterian Church and also sang in the choir.  Mrs. Broekhuizen’s greatest joy was her grandsons who she was extremely proud of. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend of 60 plus years, Theodore in 2016; siblings, John (Mary) Westervelt, William (Erien) Westervelt, Eleanor (George) Sears and Dorothy (Albert) Burd, brother-in-law, Lester (Jane) Broekhuizen. Rhoda is survived by her loving children, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Cliff of Batavia and Bruce Broekhuizen of Holley; loving grandsons, Ryen Cliff and Alexandre (Morgan Zakes) Cliff and several nieces, nephews, cousins. 

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes 16650 State Route 31, Holley, on Thursday November 17, from 4:00-7:00pm.  Rhoda’s funeral service will be held at the Holley First Presbyterian Church 34 E. Albion St. Holley, NY 14470 on Friday, November 18, at 11:00am.  She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Ted, at Hillside Cemetery.

Joan retired from Alexander Central School after 20 years of driving bus. Joan was very active in all of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Joan loved to bake and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bill and the Sabres. She will be dearly missed by all who have known her.

She is survived by her sister Karen Washburn and her brother John (Rose) Mader. Joan’s children are Beth (Bill) Shepherd, Fred Stringham, Paula Jo Carney, Brenda (Chuck) Scotchmer and Donald (Barbara) Donnelly Jr. Grandchildren included Nicholas Donnelly and Donald Donnelly III, Heather (Leo) Saia, Ron (Cassy) Carney, Caryn (Anthony) Bosse, Dalton Mori, Corrine Mori, Eliza (Mike Woods) Stringham and Emily (Jordan Martin) Stringham. Joan is also survived by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Per her request, there will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, November 26^th, 2022, from noon until 4pm at the Beachhead Veterans Club, 3188 Broadway Rd. in Alexander.

She was born Thursday, January 27th, 1927 in Barre Center, New York a daughter of the late Albert Panek and Anna Polak Panek.

Dorothy was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish - Our Lady of Fatima Worship Site where she was active in the religious education program for many years. Dorothy crocheted numerous afghans for family and friends, prayed her daily devotions and loved being surrounded by her family.

Surviving are her sons, Bernard T. (Becky) Allen,  Jr. and Terry (Kathy) Allen, both of Elba; her daughter-in-law, Sherri Allen of Wendell, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Melissa (Tony) Ridder, Matthew (Jennifer) Allen, Trisha (Michael) Heale, Elizabeth (Justin) Calarco-Smith, Christine (Nathan) Buczek and Meghan (George) Borrasca; beloved "Twonies" to thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Florence Rodon of Oakfield and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Bernard T. Allen, Sr.; her son, Timothy Allen, her granddaughter, Heather Marie Allen, her great-grandson, Ian William Heale and her siblings, Albert Panek, Frank Panek, John Panek, Nellie Panek, Mary Sumeriski, Julia Gabriel, Anna Gloria Panek, Dr. Susan Coffey and Josephine Panek.

Dale enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors. It didn’t matter if it was hunting, fishing, snowmobiling or cooking chicken on the smoker; rain or shine he was out there. He enjoyed working on cars, small engines and giving his signature “fabrications”. Somehow out of duct tape, super glue, zip ties and a great deal of bondo he would make it work. Dale was definitely a person when you met him, you would never forget him and neither will we.

He is survived by his sons; Mike (LeAnn) Emerson, Greg (Sarah) Emerson; 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Tanya was born Tuesday, June 5th, 1979 in Dansville, NY, a daughter of James and Sheila Meyer. She was a proud, loving mother to her two boys, Skylar and Devin Harmon, working hard to build a strong foundation for them. Tanya married the love of her life, Daniel Campbell, on February 4, 2022. She worked as a Line Lead for Angelica Textile Services in Batavia.

Tanya loved her family and spending time with them. She was the life of the party, the strongest, the most compassionate, and brought joy to everyone's heart. She enjoyed riding on the motorcycle, and crafts. Christmas was her favorite season, with many decorative trees in her home, including an all-seasons tree for every holiday. Tanya loved to visit people and talk while relaxing in the sun. She was a loyal friend and always watched out for others. She was a confidant for her sisters, and loved having morning coffee.  She loved her dog (Lily) and grand-dog (Darcy). 

Tanya is survived by her husband, Daniel Campbell, of Batavia; children, Skylar Harmon and Devin Harmon, of Batavia, ; and stepchildren, Mikael Campbell, Cody Campbell, Delilah Campbell, and Makenna Campbell, of Binghamton; mother, Sheila Meyer, of Batavia, her sisters, Janette (Paul) Cipra, of East Bethany, and Jessica (Joe) Hewitt of Batavia; nieces and nephews, Sage (Kyle) Hopkins, Makayla Meyer-Corkery, Jasmine Hewitt, Dana (Shelby) Cipra, Allison and Dana Cipra, Jr., Breanna Peorier; mother-in-law, Debra Chidester; 3 aunts, a uncle, and several cousins.

In death Tanya is reunited with her father, James Meyer; brother, Shane Dann, and Grandmother, Ruth Recktenwald.
