Pauline M. "Polly" Meyers of Webster, NY, passed away, Friday, July 22, 2022 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Pauline (nee:Day) Scherf; husband, Paul Joseph Meyers; son, Robert Charles Meyers; grandchildren, Pauline Elizabeth "Pepe" Pieramico and Carrie Elizabeth Meyers; son-in-law, Emanuel F. "Neil" Pieramico; daughter-in-law, Geraldine A. "Gerry" Meyers; nephew, Michael Taggert Mangus.

Polly was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She and Paul were married in 1949 and spent 25 years in Attica, NY where they raised their children before moving to Webster, NY where they owned and operated the Denonville Inn for 37 years.

Survived by her son, Peter Michael (Gabrielle); daughters, Deborah Carol Pieramico and Julie Ann (Tom) Smith; sister, Carol Walker (Bill Butters); sisters-in-law, Catherine Eckhoff, Theresa (Joseph) Corigliano, Marsha Bugajski and Gail Schalk; best friend, Shirley Kelly; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Batavia - William S. Hume, Sr., age 51, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital.

Mr. Hume was born Tuesday, June 29th, 1971 in Batavia, a son of  Daniel Hume Sr. of Las Vegas and the late Linda Townsend Hume. 

He worked with Stafford Painters for many years. He enjoyed taking his 1970 Chevy Malibu to local car shows, riding his bike and painting.  

Surviving along with his father are his children, Tiffany Hume and William S. Hume, Jr. both of Batavia and Michael Hume of Bergen; his brother, Daniel Hume Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew. 

He is predeceased by his Dachshund, Muddy.

Rochester – Mrs. Ethel M. McClurg, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at St. Ann’s Home for the Aged.

She was born on February 3, 1922 in Batavia a daughter of the late Harry Wiedrich and Isabelle Greuschow Wiedrich.

Ethel married Everett McClurg in December 1945 at St. James Episcopal Church, where they were lifetime communicants. The McClurg’s were also life time residents of Batavia.

Ethel and her late husband, Everett, traveled thru out the US and Canada but enjoyed spending their summers with their friends and family, at their cottage on Bob’s Lake in Ontario, Canada.     

Following Everett’s passing on August 15, 2000, Ethel eventually moved to an independent apartment at The Greens of LeRoy.  She enjoyed all of the support, social activities and new friendships that developed. She also became a Season Ticket holder with Syracuse Crunch Hockey and loved attending games and doing other activities with her family.

She is survived by daughter, Bette (Carl) Koch of Baldwinsville; her son, James (Cathy) McClurg of Elba; grandchildren, Douglas Koch, Brian Koch, Allison (Steven) Brill and Jeremy (Susan) McClurg;  great-grandchildren, Nathan Koch, Jenna Pangrazio, Brianna Manzella, Addison Brown and EJ Brill along with several  great- great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Virginia Cheeseman and Robert H. Wiedrich.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield where funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday. Ardyth “Ardy” (Suess) Van Valkenburg, 94, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born in Attica, NY on February 6, 1928 to parents Arthur Suess and Delia Seufert. She was married to her great love Irving S. Van Valkenburg from April 30^th, 1949 until his death in 1991.

She is survived by her three children, Beth (Charles) Mullen of Rochester, Lee Van Valkenburg of Attica, and Peter Van Valkenburg of Florida. Grandchildren Jeffrey (Jill) Mullen, Michelle (Christopher) Dick, Kelly (Luke) Sementino and Megan (Brian) Pisula and 12 great grandchildren who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister Natalie Slocum and many nieces, nephews and the Mullen extended family.

Ardy graduated from Attica High School in 1945. She was the oldest and longest member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was confirmed in 1940 and worked many years on their Sauerkraut Supper. She was also a member of Attica Golf Club, American Legion Harder-O’Donnell Post #734 Auxiliary, Attica Historical Society, and Attica Landmark Society.

Ardy is predeceased by her parents, brothers Arthur, Norman, Irving, Robert, Richard, sisters Janet Riley, Muriel Willard, Lorraine Kirkpatrick, Mary Lou (Poochie) Edwards and her good friend James Beitz.

Ardy worked at Westinghouse, Markin Tubing and Attica Penny Saver. She loved her large family, friends, golf and crossword puzzles. She was a role model for all that knew her as she always put others ahead of herself. Her and Ike loved to spend much time in Florida visiting their sons and friends. She was the best sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother that anyone could hope for.

A 10:30AM Celebration of her Life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 11 Washington Street in Attica, NY 14011 on Thursday, July 28, 2022. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica.

Pavilion ~ Sandra L. Draper, age 74, of Lake Street Road, passed away at home Thursday morning (July 21, 2022) in the loving presence of her family.

     She was born July 16, 1948 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Herbert and Doris Van Alstine Cook.

    

Sandy attended LeRoy Central School and resided in LeRoy for many years prior to marrying the "love of her life", Gordie Draper and spending almost 56 loving years together.

     Sandy was happiest when surrounded by others.  She loved her family and many of her fondest memories come from time spent with them.  Sandy's love for others extended to the Pavilion community where she ran the Country Cafe.  It was at the Cafe, where Sandy's sense of humor, outgoing personality and good cooking provided a chance to meet many friends, who became family to her.

     She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Gordie; children, Todd (Becky) Draper, Jay Draper, Chad (Jodi) Draper and Tonya (Joe) Swyers; grandchildren, Jerid Draper, Jonelle Draper, Derek Draper, Marissa Draper, Mikayla Tillotson, Kiara Tillotson, Emmalene Draper, Allison Draper, Zackary Tillotson, Katherine Draper, Ella Tillotson, Eli Swyers and Gus Swyers; great-granddaughter, Adley Draper; brothers, Richard (Joyce) Cook and Robert (Teresa) Cook; In-laws, James (Betty) Draper, Darlene (Kevin) Hinrich and Donna Draper, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elva and Ivan Draper and her brother-in-law, Larry Draper.

  On Sunday, July 17, 2022, May “Toady” Dembowski, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend joined her Savior at the age of 88. 

Toady was born July 7, 1934, and raised in Linden, NY.  She met her future husband, Glenn, in the fourth grade at Alexander School. Graduating in 1952, they were married in 1958 and celebrated their 64th anniversary together in March. They enjoyed sitting on the porch together drinking their coffee and watching the birds. 

Toady received her Commercial Art B.A. degree from Pratt Institute in 1956. She wore many hats in her life, including art teacher, wife, homemaker, mommy, artist/graphic designer, piano teacher, receptionist, waitress, soloist, counselor, speaker and writer. Toady and Glenn ran a mail order pattern business and operated the Linden Mill Gift Shop for several seasons. She was always serving in church beginning at age 4, helping her mother hand out carnations on Mother’s Day. Toady was ordained as an intern Pastor at Brockport Christian Center in 1976 for the ministry of pastoral care to women. She enjoyed painting and planning for Christmas. She had the “sewing bug” and was always working on a project of some sort or the other. Toady made everyone around her laugh with her jokes, stories, funny faces, and kooky antics. 

She will be remembered by her husband, Glenn; son Gregory (Laurie) Dembowski, daughter Rory (Tim) Whiting; and her granddaughters, the “3As”; Allison (Kris) Hamann, Anna (Kevin) Lotz, and April Whiting (Jacob Patterson); including Mary Ann (Ron) Saeva and Shirley (Mike) Wagner, who became part of the family early on. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Mallison, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins. 

In Toady’s own words, “I’ll … say once again how much I enjoy any of our contacts. … They all make me smile and stir up happy memories and sometimes, even my dreams. … I wish we could meet, greet, and giggle. … So stay well, keep your nose clean, and stay in touch. … Lots of … goals, laughs, and all such bologna! We’ll be in touch, and thankfully, Jesus will always be in the center.”

  Norma Jean Corona, 85, of Alexander passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022 at Highland Hospital. She was born in Batavia on February 27, 1937 to the late A. Edwin and Doris (Peck) Kogle. In addition to her parents, Norma is predeceased by her loving husband; Patrick Corona Sr.

Norma was loved and encouraged by her dad, Ed, (always his ‘Jeannie Girl’) to believe that she could do anything in this life.  She worked towards completing coursework to become a teacher- her dream job- but selflessly changed path instead to support the dreams of her family.  She worked as a server, a bank teller, a community residence manager, an emergency responder, and finally as a sergeant at Albion Correctional Facility towards the goals and hopes of her family- and proved her dad right- She could indeed do anything that she put her mind to!

Jeannie was a selfless giver and hard worker in support of those she loved, but was never better than when making fun for her grandchildren or sharing adventures together. She shared her love of Disney, flea markets, silly pranks, monarch butterflies and Skipbo with her family making everyday a happy memory to be cherished.  Her family will remember and miss her for endless days by the family pool, for bounteous meals at every holiday, and for always being welcomed as the person she would most like to see.  Jeannie was a champion for her family, carrying on her own dad’s legacy helping them all to believe that they also could do anything they put their hearts and minds to achieve.

Jeannie loved Tom Jones, Kirby’s Avalanche games with her grandkids, the Ave Maria, and above all her husband and the love of her life “Tyke”.  She has missed him mightily for seven years as she battled her own health concerns, but never, ever lost her gratitude for life’s smallest pleasures and her joy in each day.  Her final words to all of us were “Thank you…I love you so much! I just want to go back to dance again with Tykie.”- There never was a better good bye!

She is survived by her children; Roxanne (David Mandelbaum) Corona-Redmond of Chili, Patrick (Barbara) Corona Jr. of Batavia and Jody (James) Turcer of Alexander; 8 grandchildren Kieran Redmond, Caitlyn (Anthony) Culotta, Kelley Redmond, Christopher (Randi Vengelen) Corona, Courtney (Peter) Wise, Travis Turcer, Chelsea Turcer and Jonathan Corona; 5 great-grandchildren Nico, Rosie Jean and Leo Culotta, Sullivan Tyke and Sienna Wise; and also by her AFS foreign exchange granddaughters; Preeyarat “Mink” Surajaroenjai, Eleonora Costa,  Christina Lehmann, Francesca Pugliese, Natalia Ubilia Sababa, and Rattanakorn “June” Suksaby.  

There will be no prior calling hours and a private Funeral Mass and internment will be held for immediate family as Jeannie’s wishes have always been made clear to us.  She asked that we forgive her any mistakes and that we remember the fun and love we shared. She did ask that those who loved her have a party with those they love in her honor.

Charles R. Pero, III, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 72 on July 18, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, surrounded by his family. 

Charlie was the son of the late Charles R. Pero and Marien Pixley Pero. He is also predeceased by his sister Adelyn Pero and his nephew Michael Napoleone.

Charlie was a member of the class of 1967 at Notre Dame High School. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the National Guard from 1967-1973. He worked for the family business in plumbing and heating for a number of years.

Charlie had a passion for theatre arts, fulfilling a dream of performing on stage beginning at the age of 50. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete. 

Those that knew him appreciated his kind heart and quick wit.  He will be missed by all. 

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Cook) Pero; his children, Amy (Jay Taranto) Southcott, Michael (Beth) Pero and Nick Pero; stepchildren, Kelly Zuzze’ and Tim (Bonnie) Zuzze’; siblings, David (Trish) Pero and Laurie (Mark) Napoleone; his grandchildren, Zach, Drew, and Emma Southcott, Ryan, Tyler and Molly Pero along with many nieces and nephews.

Bergen - Jane Fox, age 77, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at her home.

She was born on July 27, 1944 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George William Peck and Hilda Stobbs Carey Peck.

A long time private duty home healthcare aide, she served as President of the 8th District, Sons of the American Legion and was the Adjutant for Genesee County for the past few years.

She is predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Fox, Sr. who passed away on November 21, 2003 and her grandson, Justin Robert Baker.

Surviving are her best friend and soulmate, David G. Henry of Bergen; her daughter, Melissa L. (David) Waterman of LeRoy; five grandchildren, Samantha (Steven) Tyson of Bergen, Chad (Melissa) Waterman of Texas, Hillary (Heath) Bender of Meridale, Jillian (Nick) Nesbitt of Waterport and Amy (Mark) Herman of Warsaw; two great-grandchildren, Kane and Mace Tyson; her sister, Carol (Rudolph) Shook of Rockland, Maine along with several nieces and nephews.

  After a journey of 94 years as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Leona M. Pastore passed away peacefully Sunday February 6, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 21, 1927 in Batavia, Leona is predeceased by her husband of 70 years; Philip P. Pastore Jr.; her parents Leo and Mary (Fabio) Azzi; in-laws Mr. & Mrs. Philip Pastore Sr.; brother Charles Azzi; sisters Veronica Martin, Matilda Syracuse, Barbara Leone and great-granddaughter Delilah Rae Graham.

She is survived by her six children; Michael (Nancy) Pastore of Key West, FL., Paulette Pontillo of North Palm Beach, FL., Georgeann (David) Hartman of Nashville, TN., Phyllis (Timothy) Beers Sr. of Denver, CO., Patricia Olverd of Richmond Hill, GA, Vincent (Kayleen) Pastore of Le Roy; Aunt Lena Pastore of FL.; sister Virginia Bass of CA; grandchildren Micah Pastore, Timothy (Gretchen) Pastore, Alysia (David) Thibault, Jamie Wortzman, Tony Pontillo, Philip Pontillo, Gary Call Hanley, Timothy (Sara) Beers Jr., Georgia Lee (Marc) Graham, Jessica (David) Blum, Ashley (Jared) Parkey and David Olverd Jr. along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Leona’s favorite quote was “Life is a Song, Love is the Music”. Her love of music began at the age of seven in a performance of “The Little Drummer Boy” and at eleven years of age she joined the St. Anthony’s Senior Choir, becoming a soloist performing at all church functions. In her senior year she became the soloist with The Choristers of Rochester Civic Orchestra, where she sang for multiple organizations, churches and functions throughout the state.

After graduation from High School she went on to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. where she majored in voice. Upon finishing college, she married her husband and began raising her family, all while remaining active in her church and St. Anthony’s School, where she became President of the PTA. Continuing with her love of music she became the guest soloist for the Genesee Symphony, produced and performed on WBTA Radio with her own show, was the soloist for the “Genesee Choral” and “Ars Nova Singers”. She also became an organist for St. Anthony’s Church and appeared in many Rotary Club Broadway local productions, Brigadoon, Mame, Camelot, Sound of Music and others.

She became involved with the Genesee Symphony Orchestra and served on the board for many years also becoming the Historian from 2003-2013 and chaired the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary. Leona was recognized as an outstanding Italian American by the Paolo Busti Foundation for her accomplishments in music and was associated with the author John Gardner Society and a member of the Holland Land Office.

  Carmela (LaRussa) Deni, 92, of Batavia passed away peacefully on July 17, 2022. She was born on May 30, 1930 in Batavia to the late Lawrence LaRussa and Bertha (DeBole) LaRussa. She is preceded in death by her husband; Joseph Deni.

Carmela was a long-time member of St Joseph's Church (Resurrection Parish) in Batavia.

She is survived by her five sons; James (Simone) Deni, Lawrence (Roseann) Deni, Joseph (Kathryn) Deni, Thomas Deni, Michael (Deborah) Deni; her sisters Marian (William) Heisler and Loretta (John) MacKenzie, as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Melissa June LeSage, "Missy," 55, of Penfield, passed away on July 14, 2022 at Highland Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Missy was born July 18, 1966 in Batavia, a daughter of Sue LeSage.  Missy entered the world with her loving twin, Mindy, following closely behind.

She was full of life, love and laughter.  Missy was born a decisive and determined little girl and remained that way her entire time on earth.  She held a special place in anyone’s heart that she came in contact with.  Missy loved her pretties, scarfs, laughing out loud and being with her Susie.  Missy enjoyed walks and being outside.  She was known for making you turn the lights on and off multiple times.  Missy treasured her weekly trips with Debbie Bean, an extra special friend of 38 years.

Missy’s family would like to thank the ICU staff at Highland Hospital for the love and care they gave Missy in her final days.

Surviving along with her mother are her sisters, Melinda Quaintance, Lisa Smith and Emilie Moss; brother, Jess LeSage, many nieces, nephews and great nephews.  Missy was a blessing to a loving family.  Missy is also survived by her family at Baird Road and the rest of the staff at Heritage Christian Services.

Preceded in death by her brother, Jason LeSage and grandmother, June Vile.  

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Timmy Lee Taylor, 47 of Troy, NY and formerly of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 11, 2022.

He was born November 27, 1974 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late John Taylor and Mary Francis Tyson Taylor.

Tim was a photogenic person who loved taking pictures with family and friends. He enjoyed basketball, fishing and safari animals. Most of all, he was a caring person who loved his family and put a smile on anyone’s face who would come into contact with him.

He was the brother of the late Della Tyson.

He is survived by his five children, Sharmaine Powell of North Carolina, Timmy Taylor Jr. of Corfu, Tyshon Taylor of Batavia, Andrae Taylor of Batavia and Dominic Taylor of Batavia. Grandson, Andrae Lee Taylor Jr. and his sister, Priscilla Leonard of Georgia. Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marjorie A. “Marge” Bisig, 91 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Grand Rehabilitation & Nursing in Batavia. She was born September 8, 1930 in Barre Center, to the late Raymond and Marion (Wigton) Vereecken. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Bisig whom she married July 1, 1950; brother Raymond Vereecken, son-in-law Daryl Cook and daughter-in-law Debra Bisig.

Mrs. Bisig enjoyed thrift shopping, walking and spending time with her friends. Her family was her hobby, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, Suzanne Cook of Batavia, John (Barbara) of Elba, Donald Bisig of Elba, Charles (Penny) Schenck of Moravia, Shirley (Horace) Waldron Jr. of Oakfield, Linda (Richard) Smith of Basom, Richard Bisig of Batavia, sister Ellajean Gerhardt of Las Vegas, NV, 25 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 4 to 7pm at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. A 10:00am Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.

Gunter Kreimeier, 93, of Batavia, passed away on July 12, 2022 at Crossroads House.

Gunter was born January 2,1929 in Stade, Germany, the son of the late Herman and Imgarrd (Ranzinger) Kreimeier.

Gunter was a member of Godfrey's Pond and enjoyed hunting, having traveled extensively for big game.

Surviving are his wife, Waltraut "Trudy" Kreimeier of Batavia, they were married on September 29, 1951.  Many dear friends also survive.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. also on Tuesday.  Private burial will be held in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.
