Jon N. Roblee, age 45, passed away Monday afternoon (March 1, 2021), after a long battle with cancer, at Buffalo General Medical Center in the loving presence of his family.

    

 He was born August 30, 1975 in Batavia, a son of Suzanne Juliano Roblee and the late Darrell Roblee.

     Jon will be remembered as always being a kind and respectful person, who was free spirited, very resourceful and determined to follow his dreams.  He developed many friendships along his chosen paths.  He enjoyed reading and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

     He is survived by his mother, Suzanne Roblee; his brother, Scott (Jennifer) Roblee; his loving nieces, Madison Roblee and Presley Roblee, all of LeRoy, grandmother, Betty Juliano of Florida, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Bruce H. Merle, 76 of Attica, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021. He was born January 18, 1945 in Warsaw, to the late Arthur E. (Florence C. Chamberlain) Merle.   

Bruce was a very involved member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Attica. He taught tractor safety for 4-H for many years, he was a FFA Officer with the local chapter and State Association. Mr. Merle farmed his whole life, a book of knowledge that enjoyed working on machinery, running loaders, his tractors and planting corn until all hours of the moring. He was a dedicated family man, always supporting their athletics and other ventures.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Nancy L. (Steaderman) Merle; children Brent (Jaime) Merle, Todd (Lynette) Greene, Cindy (Steve) Crowley; siblings Phyllis (Charles) Couture, Milton (Mary Kautz) Merle, Douglas (Sara) Merle, Lyle (Dottie) Merle, sister-in-law Marlilee Merle; grandchildren Nathan, Emily, Kayla, Sarah (Joe), Miranda (Jeff), Evan, RJ, Stephanie (Josh); great-grandchildren Hazel, Cailee, Analeese, Reva, Olivia, Jackson, JJ, Ava, along with many nieces and nephews.

  Patricia Ann Messina of Batavia passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021, after a brief illness.  Patty was born on January 20, 1944, the daughter of the late Francis and Eleanor Tatarka. 

She graduated from Notre Dame High School and soon after began working at THE DAILY NEWS where she continued to work for many years.  In later life, Patty was also employed at the NYS Bureau of Unemployment.

Her life was one of devotion to her family that soon included her husband Charles Messina, Jr., and his family.  The couple had two sons David Charles (Susan) and Jeffrey Francis (Elizabeth).  Together they formed an indelible bond of familial love with the birth of Patty’s precious Grandchildren, Ava, Giada, Joseph (Joey), Charles (Charlie) and Giulianna. Special highlights were the “alone” visits last summer at ‘Ma Pats’ with Ava.  Then last fall the insidious disease began to surface ever so slightly.  Something wasn’t right.  And so it began and too quickly took over.” 

Patty was the one behind the camera; at the sink; in the kitchen; quietly preparing and always helping; assisting any way and anywhere she saw a need.  Another very famous person summed it all up: “If she saw a need, she fixed it,” in her own, quiet, unobtrusive way never calling attention to herself. Always letting YOU lead.  Patty was known for her artwork, treasures from cheerful drawings to tasteful note cards, and projects of all kinds.  At every family occasion, it was Patty who held the camera.  She made the most delicious Macaroni with Fresh Peas; from scratch Cinnamon Rolls and cookies and her homemade Manicotti shells were like eating air! Charles and Pat were truly a couple.  They did everything together. You couldn’t have a conversation with one that they didn’t turn to the other one for a comment.   They attended any and all sporting events for their sons in all kinds of weather and traveling no matter the distance.  They we devoted beyond measure to family first and to their Alma Mater, Notre Dame.  Patty’s Manicotti were fundraiser favorites for many years. 

As families aged, she helped to take care of her father, her father-in-law, Charles Messina, Sr., and kept vigil for her mother-in-law, Beatrice.  Charles and Pat welcomed her own mother into the family home on Redfield Parkway until her passing.  It was Patty who quietly stood by a coffin and carried cups of water to family members.  And when one of her sister-in-law’s mother was dying, it was Patty who was there to help. Her family and an outpouring of that same strength attended to Patty with love and care from the legions of friends who were at one time or another, recipients of Charles and Pat’s outreach!   People did what they could to show how much she was loved and selfishly would have kept her longer. 

“In the end you can’t change anything. But in the end your presence is everything.”

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Messina, along with their sons and families. Surviving Patty are her brother Robert (Joan) Tatarka and their children Melissa, Robert and Christopher; sister-in-law Jean (the late Vincent Messina) and children, Denise (Charles) Hull, Theresa (Steven) DiMarco, and Dean Vincent (Patricia); brother-in-law Paul (Sharon) Messina and their daughters, Shelley (Bob) Bailey and Rebecca Messina (Derk) Hendriksen.  Aunt Katherine Ognibene also survives her along with great nieces and nephews, cousins, etc.  She was a daughter-in-law of the late Charles (Beatrice) Messina.  Her oldest brother, Thomas Tatarka and brother-in-law Vincent Dean Messina predeceased Patty.   

There will be no prior calling hours. A 12:00PM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph Site) 303 East Main St. Batavia, NY 14020. Patty will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum. The church will be restricted to 50% of its normal capacity. Face coverings and social distancing are mandatory.   Viola Marie (Oakes) Kerr (Vi), peacefully passed at the aged of 87 on March 1, 2021 under the loving care of Crossroads House in Batavia New York. Viola, the daughter of Norman and Jessie (Morey) Oakes was born in Lockport, New York on March 13, 1933. She was pre-deceased by her two brothers, Harold and Roy Oakes and her husband Robert Kerr.

Viola is survived by her daughters Colleen Kerr Fiorille (George) and Deborah Kerr-Rosenbeck (James). She has 5 grandchildren: Justin Rosenbeck (Sarah), Robert Seeloff (Leah), Michael Rosenbeck (Chelsey Cratsley), Stephen Rosenbeck (Amber Jasinski) and Rhett Seeloff. She also was blessed with 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Harold’s wife and high school classmate, Ruth (Maxwell) Oakes and several, nieces and nephews.

Viola had several different jobs throughout her life beginning with a part time job at a local greenhouse near her childhood home. We attribute her love and knowledge of flower gardening to this early experience. She spent some time employed in the office at the Lockport canning factory and doing seasonal tax preparation work for a local accountant. Viola was a dedicated stay at home mom until the passing of her husband when she was just 39 years old. Her previous accounting experience led to a career as the Fiscal Officer at the Lockport Housing Authority where she managed the budget for 20 years until her retirement. In retirement she was an active volunteer at the Lockport Senior Center and Niagara Hospice.

Her grandchildren and friends remember her best for her baking and weekly batch of all different cookies. She is most noted for her cutout cookies which she made at every major holiday including Valentine’s Day. Viola was an avid traveler and visited Alaska, Africa, the Philippines, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. She loved to tell the story of how she slept on the deck of the ship on her windjammer cruise in the Caribbean.

Mrs. Ruth Mary Vogt Werner, 95, of Attica, passed away on February 28, 2021 in Perry, at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home, Inc. She was born February 14, 1926 in Buffalo, the daughter of late Joseph L. and Effie T. Spitzer Vogt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Luther Werner of Attica, siblings, Sr. Jean Baptiste OFS, Betty Bischof and Joseph M. Vogt.

An avid artist, she received many awards for her watercolor paintings. She was a former Regent Catholic Daughters, Eucharist Minister, lector and leader of Renew groups and bible study at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Attica.

Surviving are her five sons and daughters-in-law; Carlton R. (Edith) Werner, Roger F. (Nancy) Werner and W. Randall (Sean) Werner, all of Orangeville, Loren G. (Peggy) Werner and Eric J. (Lisa) Werner, both of Attica; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.

John Allen Mack Jr., departed this world for his heavenly home February 27, 2021 at the NYS Veteran’s Home in Batavia. He is son of the late John Allen Mack Sr. and Dorothy Stockholm Mack Cooley. He is preceded in death by siblings Thomas (Grace) Mack and Ellen Dutton, mother-in-law Pauline Caselli.  

John was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He worked for the New York State Department of Corrections in Attica for 30 years.

Cherished husband of Deena Caselli Mack; father of Renee (Jessie) Hamill, Danielle (Wesley) Burgess and Debbie (Keith) Lyons, brother of Michele (Milton) McCullough and Joseph Mack, much loved uncle of Albert (Theresa) LeClerc, father-in-law Dante Caselli Sr., brother-in-law Geoff Dutton, survive along with grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of loved friends.

Sharon Lena Schrauger Davis, 74 of Loxley, AL, passed from this life into her Heavenly home on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Sharon was born on January 25, 1947 in Binghamton, New York to Betty and Louis Schrauger.  She was raised and lived in and around the Batavia/Elba, NY area before moving to Texas. Sharon retired from the Kroger Corporation in 2007 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Vidor, TX. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron & Kandra Davis, of Vidor, TX and daughter, Tammy Crosby of Loxley, AL; sister Marilyn (Don) Smith of Elba, NY, brothers Butchie Schrauger of Elba, NY, Gary Schrauger of Jersey City, NJ, and Todd (Sandy) Schrauger of Jacksonville, FL. She was very proud to be known as "Granny" to Wesley & Alex Crosby of Loxley, AL, Kristen Davis of Vidor, TX, Veronica Paulsen of Loxley, AL and Joshua Swearingen of Sour Lake, TX.  She also had numerous nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, James Schrauger.

Sharon had a kind heart and rarely met a stranger.  She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, chewing on peppermints and a big scoop of Blue Bell ice cream.  She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and spent a lot of time reading her well-worn Bible.  She was a prayer warrior for many.  Her absence will be great in our lives, but we rejoice today that she is Home.

A celebration of her life will be held in Loxley, AL on Sunday, March 7. 

Marjorie (Marge) Welkom, Morgan, Leathersich, age 87 passed away on February 25, 2021 surrounded by her adoring family. She was taken swiftly by an aggressive cancer.

Marge was the youngest of six siblings. She graduated with Honors in 1951 from the Ralpho Township High School in Elysburg, PA. She was voted by her senior classmates as most athletic. In 1952, Marge moved to Churchville, NY at the urging of her sister Anna. In 1953, she met JB Morgan, marrying the same year after a whirlwind courtship. They raised three energetic children, beginning their life in Caledonia, NY, and then moving to Leicester, NY, in 1963. JB passed away suddenly in April 1986 leaving Marge a widow for seventeen years. After a chance meeting, a brief time dating, she married Jim Leathersich in November 2003. They shared their elder years together, especially enjoying the winter months in Arizona.

Marge worked full-time until the age of 80 in agricultural endeavors. She was an exceptional farmer operating all kinds of large machinery, usually with a dog on her lap and a cup of coffee in her hand. She had a natural green thumb and could make anything grow.

Marge was extremely versatile! Her resume of skills included: accurate weather prediction, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting, exterior and interior painting, wallpapering, climbing ladders, building maintenance, furniture refinishing, scrubbing and cleaning, flower gardening, shoveling everything and anything, plowing, planting, harvesting, and pouring concrete. She was a master at crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Marge was predeceased by her beloved first husband Joseph Broughton (JB) Morgan, Leicester; her hard-working parents Michael and Anna Welkom; four remarkable brothers: John, Michael, Albert & Leonard Welkom, Catawissa, PA; her treasured only sister Anna Welkom Bridges, Winter Park, FL. In addition, she is survived by: her devoted husband James (Jim) Leathersich, Caledonia; her cherished children with JB: Linda (Roger) Hamilton, Leicester; Peggy (Peter) Capotosto, Fairport; and Michael (Marianne) Morgan, Leicester; her precious grandchildren: Leslie (Danny) Hamilton Stein, Jane (Tim) Cimino, Annie (Pat) Capella, Emma (Brenden) Mance, Joe (Sarah) Morgan, Jennifer (Bill) Flint, Matthew (Jody) Morgan and 16 darling great-grandchildren. Marge also leaves behind many close nieces, nephews and cousins in PA; faithful friends, John and Barbara Hauslauer, Audrey Welkom, along with others too numerous to name; and a long list of dear dogs and assorted animals.

Calling hours for family and friends will take place on Friday, March 12, 2021, between 2-7pm at the Eaton Watson Funeral Home, Perry, NY. Strict COVID regulations will be in place! A funeral for Marge will follow on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 1:00pm at Triple H Farms, 4524 Genesee Street, Route 63, Geneseo, NY. The funeral will be held outside regardless of weather. Churchville/Bergen - Gloria  S. Stein, age 82, longtime member of St. Brigid's Church in Bergen, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mrs. Stein was born May 24, 1938 in Batavia,  a daughter of the late Robert Stone and Ruth Bresslin Stone. 

Gloria is the wife of Edward Stein who passed away on July 2, 2000.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Stein of Randolph, Matthew (Christine Billings) Stein of Churchville and  Lawrence (Peggy) Stein of South Byron; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her half-sister, Patti Baker of Bergen and nieces and nephews. 

She is predeceased by two half-sisters; Loretta and Betsy. 

There are no prior visiting hours. Due to the ongoing pandemic, Gloria's Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for her family. She will be laid to rest in St. Brigid's Cemetery. Carole Ann Chatt, 78 of Batavia and Sarasota, Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital.  She was born on October 23, 1942 in Batavia, New York to the late Joseph and Jennie (Rizzo) Megliore.  She is preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Dombrowski who died in 1991.  

Carole was a longtime waitress at Batavia Downs and St. Nicholas Club in Batavia.  She was also employed most recently as a waitress at the Sarasota Kennel Club in Sarasota Florida.  She was a past President of the St. Jerome Guild.  Carole enjoyed sitting by the pool or on the beach, was an avid reader of Danielle Steele and other romance novels, loved to shop and would seek out anything in her favorite color purple.  She had a bigger than life personality and was known as Nana to those that adored her most.  She was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed by her family and many, many cherished friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Ned F. Chatt, a son, Ned F. (Julie) Chatt, Jr., daughter Jill Ann (Timothy) Warner, both from Rochester, NY, grandchildren Kaitlyn (Sean) Chatt McFarlane of Winston Salem, NC, Cameron Chatt, Victoria Warner and Leyna Warner.  She was also the great-grandmother to Marlene (Marley) McFarlane.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Rebecca (Stephen) Chatt Swanson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lulu (Lou) J. Kirkpatrick Tillotson of Batavia, and formerly from Pavilion and Oakfield passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the age of 97.  She was born on July 19, 1923, the daughter of John and Lillian (Root) Pask.  Lou was a homemaker and graduated from Oakfield Alabama High School, enjoyed traveling in her younger years, liked to play dominoes, was known for knitting her coveted dish cloths, and especially enjoyed visiting with her many family members and friends. Although Lou endured many physical difficulties in her recent years, she often reflected that she was very lucky to have had such a long and wonderful life on Earth.

Lou married William (Bill) Kirkpatrick Jr. of Elba on November 14, 1942 and they resided together in Oakfield after he completed military service in 1946. They were married for over 26 years.  They had two sons Larry (Cathy) Kirkpatrick and Paul (Eileen) Kirkpatrick.  Larry passed away in Florida in June, 2013, where his wife Cathy still resides, along with Lou’s grandchildren Bret (Cyndi) Kirkpatrick and Christie (Terry) Major, and Lou’s four great grandchildren, Brooke and Taylor Major and Cathy and Emily Kirkpatrick.  Paul and Eileen continue to reside in Oakfield.

After Bill Kirkpatrick passed away in February 1969, Lou was blessed to meet her second husband Harold (Bud) Tillotson Jr. of Pavilion. They married in July of 1971, bringing Bud’s children, Sue (Bill) Semmel of York, Paul (Dana) Tillotson of Pavilion, David (Noreen) Tillotson of Pavilion, and Douglas (Tina) Tillotson of Silver Springs into Lou’s life. Bud and Lou enjoyed 32 years of marriage before his death in June 2003.  Lou and Bud are also survived by another 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

As Lou requested, services will be held privately for family members at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, Maple Avenue in Oakfield, on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 3 pm. Batavia - Cathleen M. Kosiorek, 80 of Batavia and formerly of Stafford, passed away on Thursday, (February 25, 2021) at her home under the care of HomeCare & Hospice and her loving family.

Mrs. Kosiorek was born May 19, 1940 in Staten Island, a daughter of the late James and Marguerite (Naples) Hackett.

Cathleen was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She was a member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church in Batavia, the Investment Club, Garden Club in Stafford and Florida, and the St. Joe's Drum Corps. She loved lunches with the Stafford Girls and was a past member of the Stafford Ladies' Auxiliary. She was a former girl scout leader and softball coach.

A people person, Cathleen enjoyed wintering in Lauderdale by the Sea for 27 years, gardening, reading, and working puzzles. Most of all, she loved time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   

Cathleen is the wife of Ronald F. Kosiorek of Batavia. The two were married on April 15, 1961.

Surviving along with her husband are her children, Sharon (Kazem) Ashrafioun of Pittsford, and Eric (Brenda) Kosiorek of Batavia; grandsons, Dr. Lisham (Dr. Christina) Ashrafioun, Aron Ashrafioun, Joshua (Courtney) Kosiorek, Caleb (Ashley) Kosiorek, Daniel Kosiorek, Michael Kosiorek, and Jacob Kosiorek; great-grandchildren, Mariana and Benham Ashrafioun, Barret, Susie, and Scotlynn Kosiorek; a brother, John (Kay) Hackett of Nevada; sisters, Mary (late Ward) Barrows of Cali., and Margaret (William) Houtchens of Virginia; sister-in-law, Lorraine Kuczynski of Batavia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by a son, Keith Kosiorek; great-grandson, Elias Kosiorek, and a brother, James E. Hackett.

Jacinta M. Penkszyk, 41 of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (February 23, 2021) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born November 13, 1979 in Batavia, a daughter of Irene Gravanda of Batavia and the late Francis J. Penkszyk Jr.

It’s exceedingly rare in this life to meet someone as kind, caring and wonderful as Jacinta. Jacinta was a SUNY Brockport alumnus and graduated with a degree in history and later a Master’s in Library Science at UB. She had a smile that could light up a room, an amazing sense of humor and a zest for life. She loved to laugh and be silly and although she struggled with many adversities, she always remained warm, loving and kind. She loved funny movies like Police Academy, Naked Gun and Austin Powers, history, animals, Star Wars, superheroes and Annie Lennox. She liked to take walks and spend time with her family and friends. She was an amazing friend, daughter, sister and aunt to several beautiful nieces and nephews.

Surviving besides her mother are two brothers, Francis Penkszyk III and Aaron Penkszyk, both of Batavia. Grandmother, Geraldine Penkszyk of Batavia. Nieces and nephews, Alannah, Arianna, Francis IV, Aiden and Trinity Penkszyk. Also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Wednesday (March 3^rd) from 11am-12pm at the J. LEONARD McANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia, where a celebration of her life will follow visitation at 12pm.

Sheila M. Quincey, 78, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Cottage Grove Memory Care in Rochester, NY surrounded by her family.

Sheila was born on February 4, 1943 in Batavia, NY.  She was the daughter of the late Francis T. “Frenchie” and Bernice (Peters) Chatt and step-daughter to the late Marie P. (Eischen) Chatt. Sheila is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, John M. Quincey in October 2020.

She is survived by her brother Ned F. (Carole) Chatt Sr. and sister Rebecca Chatt (Stephen) Swanson, both of Batavia. In addition, surviving children are; Christopher (Valerie) Liles of Byron, Jeremy (Sandy) Liles of Batavia and Ashley (Jason) Mlyniec of Rochester; step-daughters Lana (Gary) Cotsonas of Homosassa, FL and Kimberly Quincey of Dade City, FL; grandchildren, Kevin (Agnies) Liles, Samantha (Jeff) Staub, Harley Dorman, Talon Gauthier, Jesse Young, Trinity Liles, Tahlia Liles, Nathaniel Mlyniec, Alana Mlyniec and Kyle Mlyniec; great-grandchildren, Madison Liles, Haydin Gauthier, Jayce Gauthier, Camdin Gauthier and Ayla Davila along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

For many years, Sheila volunteered at the United Memorial Medical Center cafe earning a recognition for volunteering over 1000 hours. Sheila loved to bake, garden, cross stitch and crochet. She has knitted numerous quantities of blankets for family and friends, all custom and unique. Sheila was an avid gardener and enjoyed golfing and playing tennis with her husband. She was a wonderful homemaker dedicated to her family and grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Cottage Grove Memory Care for their friendship and devotion to Sheila.

A private service will be held for immediate family members. A celebration of life for Sheila and John will be planned at a later date.

Julia Barniak, 82, of Pavilion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 23, 2021. She was born on February 16, 1939 in Batavia to the late Joseph and Mary (Zalenski) Barniak.

Julia was a long time Secretary / Bookkeeper at Western New York Concrete in Batavia. She will be remembered as a very hard worker and was loved dearly by her family.

She is survived by her siblings; Lillian (Leon) Halat of Oakfield and Joseph (Suzanne) Barniak of Pavilion, along with many nieces and nephews.
