Batavia - Margaret Shannon, 87 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, (January 26, 202)1 at her home under the care of HomeCare & Hospice and her loving family.

Mrs. Shannon was born August 21, 1933 in Bartow, Florida a daughter of the late James C.  and Lucy (Johnson) Williams.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Batavia where she served as the Mother of the church. She loved the Lord and enjoyed time spent at church, singing, being with her family, and caring for children.

Margaret is the wife of the late C.B. Shannon; mother of the late Harold L. Peterson and Sandra Mays; and sister of the late J.C. Williams, Jr.

Surviving are her children, Alberta Williams of Florida, Nathaniel (Patricia) Williams of Albion, Joanie Evans of Batavia, Angela Johnson of Colorodo, and Rhonda (Mike) Thomas of Rochester, Charlene (Jerry) Saddler.  A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Saturday, (January 30, 2021) from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at City Church, 210 East Main Street in Batavia, where Margaret Shannon Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at 1:00 pm.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials on behalf of Margaret Shannon may be made to Union Bell Baptist Church, 407 Hollywood Farm Road, Stafford, Virginia 22405.  Where her grandson Clarence E. Mays serves as pastor.

  Mae Louise Dusen, 91, of Batavia, NY, passed away at Premier Genesee on Thursday, January 21, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on October 19, 1929 in Batavia to Charles and Carrie (Ross) Radley.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and her son, Richard. She was also predeceased by a sister, Angele (Peter) Weber, two brothers, Leonard (Anne) and Robert Radley, two sisters-in-law, Hazel (Tony) Mancuso and Viola (Edward) Martin, two brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Lois) and Earl (Genevieve) Dusen and a sister-in-law, Shirley Dusen.

Mae is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Cathy Dusen and by two grandchildren, Lara (Jason) McKee, and Brad (Michael Bleyle) Dusen. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Danica and Colton McKee, as well as three sisters, Rose (late Irving) Warner, Fran (late Robert) Lawrence and Florence (late Howard) Taft, along with a sister-in-law, Jeanette Radley, and a brother-in-law, Robert Dusen, plus many nieces and nephews.

Mae was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be missed by all who knew her. She spent the last several years of her life at Premiere Genesee Nursing Home where staff always remarked on her sweet personality and cheerful demeanor.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service is being planned for this summer.

Byron - Dean E.  Sharp, age 61, of Byron, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at his home.

Dean was born in Batavia on October 24, 1959, a son of the late Edward C. Sharp and Eva Grace Starkweather Sharp.
 
A 1977 graduate of Byron-Bergen Central School, he was a member and deacon at North Bergen Presbyterian Church. Dean was very decorated, well-established and well-respected in the dairy industry winning numerous awards with Semex USA. In 1995, he was named the Outstanding Young Breeder Award, a prestigious honor in the dairy industry. He was a member of the NIOGA Holstein Association, Future Farmers of America, New York Holstein Association and served on the Western Regional Holstein Board. Dean’s life revolved around his family, grandchildren and his cows.

Dean is the husband of Carrie L. Casper Sharp. The two were married on June 10, 1983. He is also survived by his children; Jessica Sharp of Akron, Alicia (Dan) Brumsted of Bergen and Edward Sharp of Byron; grandchildren; Lila Sharp-Robinson and John Brumsted; his brother; Clifford L. (late Karen) Sharp of Byron; his sister; Diane (Stephen) Starowitz of Byron; his mother-in-law; Peggy Casper of Batavia along with several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his sister, Arlene Sharp.

There are no prior visiting hours. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Margaret (Peg) Meyer, of Corfu, passed peacefully on January 16, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Palm Harbor, Florida. Margaret was born on March 27, 1926 to Anna (Pundt) and Edward O’Neil of Batavia.  She was the second oldest of twelve children.  Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome P. Meyer and her son, Jerome P. Meyer II.  

Margaret began working as a cashier from the age of sixteen at the A&P store in Batavia, New York.  In her later years, Margaret became a dietary aide at the Erie County Home and Infirmary.  She remained active after retirement by caring for other elderly friends and volunteering in the community. 

A lifelong Catholic, Margaret was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Corfu, New York.  She enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious, homemade pies.  Margaret also loved gardening and volunteering for various organizations including the Salvation Army and the Corfu Volunteer Fire Department.

Margaret is survived by four children, Ann Meyer, Joan (Jerry) Austin, Jean (Edward) Kelly, and Rita (Jeffrey) Fischer, four grandchildren, Thomas Hayn, Brian Hayn, Rachel Fischer and Jeffrey Fischer.  Two sisters, Ann (Jack) Smith and Marcella (Anthony) Saracini, and three brothers, Mike O’Neil, Charles O’Neil and Edward O’Neil Jr. also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Having led an exercise class for seniors at the Corfu Presbyterian Church for many years, Margaret will be remembered for her boundless energy and kindness toward all. Her beloved grandchildren, Rachel and Jeffrey Fischer were also an important part of her life. 

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for January 30, 11:00 A.M. at St. Maximilian Kolbe, 18 W. Main St., Corfu, New York.  There will be no calling hours.

  Catherine Elizabeth Doktor, 89, of Corfu, NY passed away in her home on Saturday, January 23, 2021, after a long illness.  She was born December 19, 1931 in Batavia, NY to the late Jacob and Marion (Base) Lang.  She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard (Benny), with whom she was married just shy of 67 years.  She was also predeceased by three brothers Richard, Gerald and Andrew of East Pembroke.  

She was the loving mother of Apryle (David) Carney of Irwin PA, Robin (the late Scott) Thompson of Bergen NY, Mark (Cathy) Doktor of Corfu, and Michael (Jessica) Doktor of Corfu.  She is also survived by one brother, Robert Lang of East Pembroke, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

Kate loved to garden and was proud of her beautiful flowers.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved being in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family, she made the best cabbage rolls.  She retired after 21 years as secretary at Darien Lake. She was also employed in earlier years as Program and Scheduling Coordinator for WBTA in Batavia; a job she really loved.   Kate was one of the founding members of the Cathie-Wild VFW post 9000 ladies auxiliary, and its first president.  She enjoyed playing bridge in her younger days with her girlfriends.  She was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, and was so much fun being with during the game.  She was the best caretaker of many an ill family member, and gave of her time selflessly.  She will be deeply missed, but heaven has gained an angel.

There will be no prior calling hours. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. She will be laid to rest in the Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke.

Judith M. Florian, 77, of Attica, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. She was born May 7, 1943 to the late Norman and Ruth Buil. She attended school in Buffalo, NY and graduated from Bishop McMahon High School in 1961. Judith was a devoted wife to Michael Florian. They married in 1965 and made a life in Buffalo and later settled in Corfu, NY. Michael predeceased her in May of 2012. Judith retired from the Flint Farrell Agency where she sold insurance alongside her friend Margie Chaddock.

Over the years, she enjoyed traveling the country, being a devoted mother and wife, was an avid reader, enjoyed attending church services, going out to eat and spending quality time with family and friends.

Judith is survived by her two brothers, Bill (Donna) Buil and their children Renee, Bill and Barbara and Dan (Mary Ann) Buil and their children Jason, Thomas and the late Tracy Buil. Judith has two loving sons, Scott and Darin (Tracey) Florian along with grandchildren Matthew, Amanda (Matthew) Kastelic, Noah, Joshua and Sarah Florian and great grandson Lukas Kastelic.

Judith had the biggest heart and the most loving and kind soul. Her death has left a huge void in the hearts of all who loved and appreciated her. A celebration of her life and a mass will be held in her honor at a later date.

Robert T. Diemoz, born 4/26/37 in a small farmhouse in Alexander to the late Thomas and Pearl (Goodman) Diemoz passed peacefully Saturday Jan 23 surrounded by family in the home and legacy he leaves them, on the land he so cherished.

Bob lived in Alexander and Darien his entire life, mostly in the home he built 62 years ago.  Bob not only was a retired Correction officer but was known to many for his electric and insulation business.  He was also a past president of the Alexander School Board.  He enjoying traveling with his wife Frances, especially their annual trip to Myrtle Beach where they made many friends. He was also an avid Yankees and Bills fan. 

Bob was married to Frances Quinn for 59 years when she passed in 2017.  He is survived by his three children, Ann (John) Lavrincik (of Attica), Michael (Mary Ann) Diemoz (of Darien), Douglas (Kimberly Belle) Diemoz of CA, along with his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Caudill, Daniel (Stacey) Smith, Joel (Liz) Diemoz, Kayla (Jeremy) Diemoz, Kimberly (Kevin) Hoffman, Emma and Grace Diemoz, and step-grandsons, Cody and Adam Lavrincik.  Also, seven great grandchildren,  a sister, Norene (Wayne) Kilburn of CT and a sister in law, Nancy (Wayne) Newton of Batavia in addition to many nieces and nephews.   He was predeceased by his in-laws, Albert and Rose Marie Quinn and brother in law William Quinn.

There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held privately for the family. Mr. Diemoz will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica.

Francis Dwyer, 95, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

He was born December 8, 1925 in Venice Center, NY, a son of the late John and Lillian (Miles) Dwyer.

Francis was a veteran serving with the United States Army and also a farmer.

Surviving are his family and friends.

Francis's military honors will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday at St. Joseph's Mausoleum, 532 Ellicott Street Road in Batavia.

William "Dennis" Barren, 73, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at home under the care of his family.

William was born May 16, 1947, in Buffalo, a son of the late William and Marjorie (Harrington) Barren.

He was a member of the City Church in Batavia and a 15-year member of the Attica Fire Department.  William was a welder/fabricator at Graham Corporation in Batavia.  He will be remembered as a genuine and gentle person, who would always let you know that "I've got a tool for that."

Surviving are his wife, Tammy (Ferraro) Barren of Batavia; children, William Barren of West Seneca, Eric (Olivia) Barren of Bennington, Courtney (fiancé Colin Arthur) Barren of North Chili and Lisa Bucierka of Buffalo; grandchildren, Katie, Riley, Owen, Ileana, Eve, Amanda, William and Jillian; sisters, Diane (Orrin) Catlin of Cheektowaga and Debra (Russell) Burch of Buffalo and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Larson.

Verna M. Hall, 92 of Basom, passed away peacefully Friday (January 22, 2021) at Sisters of Charity Hospital St. Joseph Campus, Cheektowaga, NY.

She was born September 1, 1928 in Alabama, NY, a daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Warner Gilbert.

Verna was employed by Klotzbach Egg Farm prior to her retirement. She enjoyed country music and was known to many about her cooking greatness. She will be truly missed by those who knew her loving heart.

She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd W. Hall who passed away August 6, 2000 and daughter, Sandra R. MacRae who passed away January 20, 2001.

Survivors include her son, David “Boots” (Betty) Hall of Batavia. Son in-law, John “Ian” (Margot) MacRae of Canada. Grandchildren, Brett (Loni) Hall, Teri (Randy) Tamburlin, Robert (De-Anna) MacRae, Shawn (Kim) MacRae and Sheri MacRae. Sister, Jane Hall. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth M. Miller, 63 of Warsaw, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born June 10, 1957 in Batavia to Richard (Patricia Bartlett) Gdanice of Basom. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law Bruce Miller.

Liz worked for many years at Fisher Price and was currently working at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was an avid outdoorswoman that loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and gardening. Liz is a member of Hawkeye Bowman Archery Club and used to be active with Attica Rodeo Association.  

She is survived by her beloved husband Curt A. Miller of Warsaw, children, Jessica (Justin) Wheeler of Randolph, Megan (Jon) Nelson of Eldred, PA, Dillon Miller of Warsaw, siblings, Rick Gdanice of Akron, Barbara (Robert) Adams-Elberton of GA, mother-in-law Linda E. Miller of Kendall, brother-in-law Vernon (Amy) Miller of Medina, 6 grandchildren, Hannah, Cali Wheeler, Angelina Walker, Gabrielle, Buddy Long, Bentley Nelson, along with several nieces and nephews.

Jean S. Lamoureux  ~  beloved wife, mother, sister and friend to many. At age 78 Jean went home to be with our Lord and Saviour on Friday, January, 22, 2021, at Charlotte House Comfort Care in North Java, New York.

Mrs. Lamoureux (endearingly called by her loving husband of 59 years) was born in Springfield, Vermont February 1st, 1942.  She was the daughter of George and Belle Senecal of Whiting, Vermont.  She married Roger J. Lamoureux  September 21, 1962. They made their home in Attica, New York in 1967 with their then 2 year old daughter.

Surviving is her husband Roger J Lamoureux of Attica and daughter, Suzanne (Daniel) Lamoureux - Lacey of Warsaw, New York; her 3 brothers David (Barbara) Senecal of Brunswisk, Maine, Ralph (Janet) Senecal of Queensbury, New York and Paul (Kathy) Senecal of Cromwell, Connecticut. Also, several nieces, nephews and many cousins. 

Mrs. Lamoureux was an honor student at Brandon high-school and attended Castleton State College. She had a love of gardening (especially roses) and feeding her bluebirds. She was an avid reader and had a special love for reading God’s Word. She was the happiest spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the Holidays with her loved ones in Vermont. She was a beautiful and faithful servant of the Lord and looked forward to spending eternity with Him and her loved ones.

Psalm 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

LeRoy ~ Gail Ann Schirmer, age 71, of Lake Street, passed away on Saturday (January 16, 2021) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

     She was born October 6, 1949 in Rochester, N.Y., a daughter of the late Clarence and Clara Kaczmarkiewicz Schirmer.

     Gail will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.  She was a graduate of the Genesee Community College Nursing Program and worked as a LPN for the Batavia VA Medical Center.

     She is survived by her children, Gene David Ray of PA and Michael (Melissa) Smith of LeRoy; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Debbi Ray Ballard on March 8, 2020.

Oakfield - Edward M. Tanner, 64 of Oakfield,  passed away on Thursday, (January 14, 2021) at Rochester General Hospital.

Mr. Tanner was born April 29, 1956 in Batavia, a son of the late William and LaRue (Paul) Tanner.

He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, reading, and watching sports.

Ed is survived by a brother, Milton (Debbie) Tanner of Bath.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Michael Tanner, Teresa Tanner, and Regina Tanner.

There will be no visitation. Edward 's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, (January 23, 202) from Grace Bible Baptist Church, 6875 East William Street Ext. in Bath.  Burial will be in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Patricia Ridley, 79 of LeRoy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (January 19, 2021) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

She was born May 23, 1941 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Gerald and Arline Hyback Ridley.

Patricia enjoyed watching criminal investigative tv shows, soap operas and loved socializing. She was a member of St. Marks Church in LeRoy and enjoyed singing in the choir. She had a smile for everyone and made you laugh. Pat was a very special person who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her sister, Karen (Ridley) Cass of Batavia. Nephew, Matt (Katherine Lefler) Reamer. Niece, Melissa (Ryan) Gaebler. Great-nieces, Alexis Reamer and Jade Gaebler. Also survived by a special cousin, Sharon (Paul) White.
