Nicholas A. Perry, 74, of Strykersville passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022. He was born January 17, 1948 in Sheldon, to the late Nicholas E. and Mary E. (Gebel) Perry. Nicholas is preceded in death by daughter Barbara Perry and brother Chet Perry.

Nicholas was proud to be a lifelong Sheldon dairy farmer. He worked hard almost every day of his life alongside his family. He was proud of all the quality milk produced and all the cows that were cared for. He loved the land and was proud of all the crops grown and maple syrup produced. He was proud of the farm community he lived in and enjoyed talking farming with family and friends. He enjoyed sharing every Monday with his friends at Maplehurst Market and driving around to see his neighbors’ farming successes.

He loved his family and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife Donna T. (Conrad) Perry of Strykersville, children, Theresa (Steve) Bernard of Arcade, Nick (Dawn) Perry III, Herb (Rhonda) Perry, Earl Perry all of Strykersville, Mark Perry of North Java, Luke Perry of Java Village, Anna (Miguel) DeLoach of San Antonio, Regina Perry of Strykersville. Grandchildren, Nicholas Perry IV, Paige Perry, Brittany (Jake) Denz, Kayla Perry, Brandon Perry, Riley Perry, Madison Perry, Nolan Perry, Morgan Perry, Ethan Perry, Felix DeLoach, Olivia DeLoach, Boris DeLoach, and great-grandson Andrew Denz. Siblings John (the late Cheryl) Perry, Catherine Perry, Leon (Becky) Perry, Elizabeth Perry, Rita Brown, Vince (Monica) Perry, David Perry, Mike (Carol) Perry, Joan (Jim) Namenek, Bernard Perry, Nelson Perry, Joe (Chris) Perry, Monica (Kevin) Zielinski. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held privately for the family. He will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Sheldon. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Sophia E. Skawienski, 95 of Varysburg, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born February 27, 1927 to the late Joseph (Katarzyna) Klecha. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph C. Skawienski, siblings, Edward, Mildred, John, Michael, Stanley, Frank Klecha.

Mrs. Skawienski was a dedicated Farm Wife and lived the dairy life for many, many years. She was a former member of the Holy Name Society. Sophia has been a longtime member of Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish in Varysburg.

She is survived by her beloved sons, Joseph M. Skawienski, Stephen (Julie) Skawienski both of Varysburg, Alan (Kelly) Skawienski of Branford, FL; 6 grandchildren, Brandon, Collin, Austin, Kiele, Darren, Emily; 2 great-grandchildren, Sophia and Wyatt, along with many nieces and nephews.

JoAnn Edgerton Betzold, of Batavia, NY and formerly of Akron, NY, went to her heavenly rest at age 88 on November 23, 2022.

She is predeceased by her husband, Gary, parents, sister Pat and brother Louis.

Joann was born on March 21, 1934 to Leslie and Elizabeth Edgerton of Elba, NY, where she was raised. She lived her entire life in the Western New York area, where she built her life around her faith and her family.

Joann never met a person she didn’t like and viewed every conversation as an opportunity to make a new lifelong friend. She was a vibrant gift to her church community, and a loving cheerful presence wherever she went.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Todd (Debbie), Mark (Brenda), John (Anita), Laurie (Mike), Beth, Linda (James), Matthew ( Joy), Stepson, Gary (Annette), and her thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Carol J. Irwin, 86 of LeRoy, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born April 2, 1936 in Batavia, to the late Joseph and Pearl (Wilcox) Demmer. She is preceded in death by her first husband William Lampke, second husband David Irwin, children, William Lampke Sr, JoAnn Miller, Ann Bonham, Amy Weaver, Dale Lampke, siblings, Roger, Richard, Joseph, Kermitt Demmer, Ramona Dudley, Ann Hearse, Shirley Greenman and Marian Kendall.

Mrs. Irwin worked at Angelica for many years. She loved decorating for the holidays and family gatherings. Carol was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her beloved children, Rex (Janet) Lampke of Silver Springs, Margaret (Craig) Hurley of LeRoy, Barbara (John) Vescovi of LeRoy, Steve (Lisa) Lampke of Ithaca, Robin (Mark) Hall of Batavia, Linda Weig of Batavia. Siblings, Janet Mann of WV, Julia (Bruce) Henning of NC, sisters-in-law, Sue Demmer of GA, Carol Demmer of Batavia; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

  Albert S. Kurek “Big Al”, Age 83, of East Pembroke, NY. passed away on November 22, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born on March 18, 1939 in Buffalo, the son of the late Stanley & Helen (Sikorski) Kurek. He was the husband of the late Florence “Annie” Docherty. 

Al is survived by his son; Alan (Lori) Kurek; daughter Kimberly (Kevin) Hale; beloved grandchildren Adam & Marc Kurek, Erin, Michaela & Mitchell Hale ; late sister Norma (Richard) Mathewson, brothers David (Lynn) Kurek and Dennis Kurek; dear companion Michelle Spoto;  along with several nieces & nephews. With great pride, he loved watching his children and grandchildren grow into adulthood and was proud of their many accomplishments. 

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1960, was a NYS Trooper from 1962-1985 stationed in Batavia and was a special agent with the Department of Defense from 1985-2001.  Albert was a noted historian of the New York State Police, having authored three books detailing the NY Troopers history.  He was a 25 year officer in the Batavia Chapter of Former NYS Troopers, a member of the former St. Nick’s Club, the Polish Falcons, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Fraternal Order of Elks and NYS Police Benevolent Association.  He enjoyed the camaraderie he had with friends & golf partners.

Stafford ~ Jean Catherine (Cross) Kent passed peacefully on Wednesday November 23, 2022, at her home after a long battle with dementia. Born June 6, 1934, she was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Catherine Cross, twin sister, June (Ken) Wallace, sister, Bonnie Babbitt, and brother, Jim (Dottie) Cross, great-granddaughter, Caroline Welch, son-in-law, Kevin Carhart and sister-in-law, Jeanne (Len) Jackson.

   

  Jean loved horses and fell in love with her cowboy in high school. She and William (Bill) Kent married October 4, 1952, and just celebrated 70 wonderful years together. They always had at least a couple of horses in their pasture. They especially loved overnight trail rides and many horse-related functions with their friends and family, Jean could always be counted on to bring a special type of cowgirl bling to the event.

     Jean managed the books for the family auction & real estate business, William Kent Inc. Bill and Jean traveled to far-off states such as Alaska and Hawaii to sell Holstein cattle, as well as countries like Canada, Holland and Mexico and on international cruises. Among their highlights were selling cattle at Madison Square Garden and the Grand Ole Opry. Along the way, they made many lifelong friends and Jean could always be found in the middle of the fun!

     Jean loved people and especially loved attending her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids’ events, including horse and cattle shows, sporting events, concerts, and musicals. She took countless photos so we could always remember the joy they brought her.

     Surviving are her husband, Bill Kent, children, David (Patty) Kent, Debra (Kyle) Welch, and Connie Carhart; grandchildren, Josh (Heather) Kent, Amber (Jason) Tomlin, Seth (Lauren) Kent, Caitie (Tanner) West, Tim (Erica) Welch, Riley (fiancé Karen) Carhart, Ciera (Bill) Trojanowski, Sutton (Katie) Carhart, Danielle (Brock) Cummins, Maegen Dills, great-grandchildren, Payton, Landon, Ainsley, Maddox, June, Everly, Chelsea, Charlotte and Elsie, several nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, Bob Babbitt and Paul (Dawn) Kent, and many wonderful friends.

Martha L. Beechler, 81, of Oakfield, passed away on November 22, 2022. She was born in Pennsylvania on September 15, 1941 to the late Thomas and Lucille (Fatheringham) Way. In addition to her parents, Martha is predeceased by her husband; Alton C. Beechler Sr., son Ken Beechler; daughter Debra Beechler; sisters Margo Vanderkooi and Thomasina Spencer.

Martha was co-owner with her husband, Skip of AL-MAR Dairy Farms in Bennington. Martha also retired from Chapin MFG. in Batavia. She also enjoyed doing ceramics and crafts.

She is survived by her children; Alton C. (Dace) Beechler Jr. of GA, Thomas (Nanette) Beechler of Bennington, Scott (Kellie) Beechler of Stafford and Vickie Pfeffer; siblings Patricia (George) Scott of OR., and James Way of OR; special niece Rhonda Barone of Batavia; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Mary  Susan  Kleps Sokoloski , 78  of Batavia  passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

Sue was born Wednesday, January 5th, 1944 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Albert J Kleps and Katherine Kleps. Sue graduated from Batavia High School in 1961, raised two wonderful boys, and worked at St. Jerome Hospital as a Dietetic Technician until her retirement.

Sue was fun loving, a good friend, compassionate sister,  caring mother and loving grandmother. She enjoyed playing basketball and watching the Buffalo Bills, loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with them.

Surviving are her sons; David Sokoloski, of Carlisle, PA and Timothy Sokoloski, of Shermans Dale, PA: grandchildren, Brady, Tyler, and Logan Sokoloski; siblings, Patricia Constantino, of Batavia, Michael (Debra) Kleps, of FL, Don (Toni) Kleps, of Erie, PA, Maureen (Sam) Misiti, of Leroy, and Eileen Kleps, of Batavia, NY; sister in law, Karen Kleps, and many nieces and nephews.

In passing Sue is reunited with her parents, Albert and Katherine Kleps; brothers, Jerry, Thomas, Bob, and Kevin Kleps; brother in law, Vincent Constantino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Batavia, on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 11:00am. Sue will be laid to rest with her parents at St. Joseph's Cemetery. LeRoy ~ Virginia G. Mancuso, age 96, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

     She was born September 6, 1926 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Clyde and Beatrice Woodrick Baker.

   

  Virginia was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many.  She was a graduate of the Catherine McCauley School of Nursing and worked for many years at St. Jerome’s Hospital as an operating room nurse.  She was also involved in the family business, Empire State Motor Express, with her husband, Francis for many years.  Virginia was a member of the Finger Lakes Afghan Hounds Club, the LeRoy Red Hat Society and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Yankees.

     She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Franceen (Louis) Ferrara and Lisa (Michael) Filio; special niece, Peggy (Baker) Dilcher, along with many other nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Francis; brother, Donald Baker and her sisters, Olive Beatrice “Bim” Baker and Raya Baker.

     Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

  Terry J. Garigen, 74, of Darien Center, NY passed away on November 20, 2022 unexpectedly at his home. 

Terry was a graduate of Alexander Central School and Erie County Technical Institute with an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Technology before being drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam.  Upon his return he had a long career working with the Darien Highway Department.  Terry used every moment of his spare time in service to others.  Along with his dedicated crew, he built pole barns, houses, and countless other structures throughout Western New York. 

In retirement, Terry became a very dedicated member of the Patriot Guard Riders.  For over 10 years Terry served with the Patriot Guard and devoted his time and effort to honor our Military Veterans and support their families.  Terry was appointed as a Region-1 Ride Captain in 2015 and was one of the Guard’s most loved and highly respected leaders.  Terry was a very proud, decorated US Army Vietnam Veteran, but he was very humble about his dedicated service.

Terry was a well-known helper and good neighbor.  Whether it was by swinging his hammer or holding an American flag, Terry went out of his way in the service of others.

Terry was a loving husband to his wife Nancy, and they shared many of life’s adventures together for over 50 years.  Terry was a dedicated brother to Barry and his wife Marianne and father to his daughter Jamie and son TJ.  Also known as Boppa, Terry leaves behind his five grandchildren Elizabeth, Emma, Natalie, Molly, and Everett. 

Calling hours will be held at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main St. Attica, NY 14011 on Friday November 25, 2022 from 3:00-7:00PM.  An 11:00AM Memorial Service will be held on Saturday the 26^th at the Funeral Home. Mr. Garigen will be interred at the WNY National Cemetery in Corfu on November 29, 2022 at 11:00AM.

  Alexandria C. Pisarek, 29, of Oakfield passed away on Saturday November 19, 2022. She was born in Buffalo on December 15, 1992 to Charles (Gail) Pisarek in Akron and AnnMarie (Rodari) Sam of Oakfield.

Alexandria loved camping, hiking, cooking and doing crafts.

In addition to her parents, Alexandria is survived by her fiancé; Stephen Pahuta of Oakfield; children Karson Little and Jaxson Johnson both of Oakfield; siblings Brianna Greene of NC., and Jason Saile of Corfu; grandmother Nancy Steinke of Oakfield, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no prior calling hours and Funeral Services will be held privately for the family. She will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery in Oakfield. Richard D. Walls, 87, of Elba, passed away on November 19, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Richard was born October 3, 1935 in Batavia, a son of the late William and Rachel (Ware) Walls.

Richard was a 1953 graduate of Oakfield Alabama Central School and graduated in 1957 from Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  After graduation, he entered into the NYS National Guard and served 6 months of active duty at Ft. Dix in New Jersey followed by 5 1/2 years in the reserves.  

Richard worked for the family business, Walls Bean and Grain.  He then had the opportunity to start his own business, Carefree Industrial Laundry, serving Western New York businesses with their uniform needs.  After 25 years, the business was sold to a larger competitor.  

In retirement, he and his wife were able to travel and spend time at their home in Sarasota, Florida.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and going to all of their sporting events.  Richard enjoyed gardening, landscaping and photography.  Richard was published in the Best of Photography in 1994, 1995 and 1996.  He was also published in America at the Millennium (best photos of the 20th century), published in 2000.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie (Churchill) Walls, they were married December 22, 1956.  Also surviving are his sons, Michael Walls of Elba and Stephen Walls of Tokyo, Japan; daughter, Susan (Michael) Lyons of Elba; grandchildren, Ashley (Callum) Pollok, Michael (Leah) Lyons Jr., Stephen, Maika, Lucas and Rachel; 5 great-grandchildren, Licca, Graham, Kennedy, Bennett and Hudson; a brother, William (Jane) Walls; a sister, Mary (Stephen) Waite and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, William Walls Jr.

Calling hours are Friday, November 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. also on Friday.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba, followed by a reception at the Oakfield Rod and Gun Club.

Batavia – Richard F. Seymour was reunited with the Lord, his wife and their son on Friday, November 18, 2022, after his passing at the NYS Veterans’ Home at Batavia, NY. He was 90 years old. A man of faith, he was a member of the Northgate Free Methodist Church.

Mr. Seymour was born August 2, 1932, in Lyons, NY, the son of Franklin and Laura Woods Seymour. He was predeceased in death in 2008 by his wife Kathryn Keif Seymour and son, Paul H. Seymour in 1984.

Perhaps best remembered for his numerous contributions to the education of the children of Batavia, Mr. Seymour served as a General Science teacher, Science Department Chairman, Assistant Principal and Principal at Batavia Junior High School. He retired from the Batavia City School District as Assistant to the Superintendent. Known fondly to his colleagues as “Dick” you could be sure to find him after school either enjoying his weekly bowling on the Batavia Teachers’ Bowling League or announcing and taking stats for all the home Batavia Blue Devil Varsity Basketball games.

Mr. Seymour’s contributions to our country and community are numerous. From 1953-1961, he was a member of the US Army, bravely serving in the Korean Conflict. He has been a lifetime member of the Sertoma Club; a long-standing Board member of Homecare and Hospice, GCASA, Genesee Memorial/ UMMC Hospital Board, Grand View Cemetery Future Development Committee, Victim’s Impact Panel, Salvation Army, the NYS Retired Teachers’ Association; Genesee Arts Council GO ART! having The Seymour Place named in the family’s honor.

Baseball, basketball, and soccer were the type of sports Mr. Seymour followed. He was an active supporter and season ticket holder to the Batavia Muckdogs minor league team and served on the booster club and Board of Directors for both the Clippers and Muckdogs. He and Mrs. Seymour hosted young baseball players during the summer seasons for many years. They also hosted educators from around the world as active members of the American Host Program.

Richard was the co-developer and co-chairperson of the First United Methodist Church food ministry where for many years, he shared his love of cooking by organizing and preparing meals to host school sports teams’ end-of-season banquets, weddings, and community social gatherings.

Never at a loss for words, Mr. Seymour enjoyed sharing memories of his travel experiences, especially his trip to Alaska. His interests included all things science related, history, sports, and bowling. He was a collector of coins, stamps, and National Geographic Magazines. Additionally, at the NYS Veterans’ Home, Richard was Resident Council Secretary and enjoyed doing the morning announcements. He was a man of integrity and a friend to all.

Mr. Seymour was husband to the late Kathryn F. Seymour and father to the late Paul H. Seymour. Survivors include his twin sister Jane Seymour Pask of Fairport, NY, nephew John and his nieces Mary and Carrie; Brother-in-laws/sister-in-laws John and Joyce Marshek, Batavia, NY, Barbara Read, Elba, NY, Charles Keif, Batavia, NY and James Keif, Ocala, FL and their families. Also surviving are his close friends Dave and Holly Parzych, William Thayer, Jr., and Fran and Bobbi Norton.

Elsie June Rowcliffe, 93, of Elba, passed away on November 18, 2022 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Elsie was born June 28, 1929 in Bergen, a daughter of the late Maynard and Blanche (Ackerson) Brown.

Elsie was a member of the Elba Historical Society, Card Club and the Collector's Club.  She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word search books, going to flea markets and watching the birds out of her window.

Surviving are her children, Dennis Rowcliffe, Diane Moore, Scott Rowcliffe, Jeffrey (Kim) Rowcliffe and Donna (Greg) Hillabush; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Elise is the wife of the late Howard Rowcliffe, grandmother of the late Jason Rowcliffe and sister of the late Walter Brown, Edward Brown, Marion Neeley, Delia Richenberg, Pearl Priestly, Mable Pocock and Ruth Galliford.

There are no prior calling hours and Elsie's funeral will be held privately.

June Kanaley, 92, of LeRoy, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who had a unique ability to make others laugh. June was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and the American Legion. She loved spending time with her family, dancing, reading, angels and the Buffalo Bills. 

   

  Born in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of Merrill and Margaret Rogers. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Kanaley, her brothers, Edward and Roger Rogers, sister-in-law, Mary Alice Rogers, brother-in-law, John Kanaley, and sister-in-law, Mary Kanaley.

     June will be sadly missed by her daughters, Christine (David) Baker, Pamela (Thomas) Rider and Patricia (Guy) Clark; grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Amico, Erin Baker, Katherine (Shannon) Whaley, Caylin (Stephen) DePuy, Daniel (Erin) Rider, Adam Clark, Connor (fiancée Becca) Clark; great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Sean Amico, Isaac and Sarah DePuy, and Jade and Brayden Whaley; sister-in-law, Angeline Rogers, nephews, Steve (Chris) Rogers, Greg (Jody) Rogers and niece, Ann Marie (Rick) Suttell.

     Family and friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 4 ~ 7 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.
