Irene M. Cecere

  Irene M. Cecere, 89, of East Bethany passed away peacefully on April 30, 2019 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on August 19, 1929 in Oakfield to the late Samuel and Marion Halat. In addition to her parents, Irene is predeceased by her loving husband; Michael P. Cecere Sr., brothers Joseph, Alphonzo and Raymond Halat.

Mrs. Cecere worked for many years at the Genesee County Nursing Home.  She was a member of Home Bureau, an avid bowler, loved crafting, crocheting and sewing. She made great Halloween costumes. She was smart, creative and gave great advice. Irene will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was strong and kind with an imagination that made cleaning fun.

She is survived by her children; Loretta (Terry) Hale of Knoxville, TN., Michael P. (Cindy Antinore) Cecere Jr. of Livonia; sister Caroline (Eugene) Beach of Oakfield and brother Leon (Lillian) Halat of Oakfield; a granddaughter Ashley Hale of St. Petersburg, FL.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Laura W. Richards

Laura W. Richards, 77 of Silver Springs, passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester under Hospice Care. She was born in Warsaw, NY on March 27, 1942 a daughter to the late Alvin Sr. and Emma (DeVinney) Wood. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by a son: Paul Richards, brothers: Alvin Jr. and Richard Wood, brother-in-laws: Gerald Shaughnessy and Harold Meyers.

Laura graduated from Perry Central School Class of 1960. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, baking reading and mowing lawns. She will be remembered by hosting large family and neighbor gatherings.

She is survived by her husband James whom she married on October 27, 1962, two sons: Todd (Mary) Richards of Silver Springs, Steven (Sue) Richards of Warsaw, 6 grandchildren: Amy (Scott) Vrooman, Timothy (Casey) Richards, Jennifer, Emily, Meghan and Andrew Richards, 3 great grandchildren: Grant, Sterling and Parker, a sister: Evelyn Shaughnessy of Perry, 3 sister-in-laws: Lynn Wood of Perry, Helene Wood of Va., Joan Meyers of Attica, brother-in-law: Carl (Connie) Richards of Silver Springs, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

William "Bill" J. Lewis

  William “Bill” J. Lewis, he sadly left us on April 27, 2019 at the age of 74 and was joyfully welcomed home by his parents, Kenneth G. and Katharine (Waskey) Lewis, brother Donald R. Lewis, sisters Marilyn Adams, Patricia Lewis and granddaughter Morgan Axe.

A loyal resident of Batavia, N.Y, Bill graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1962.  Following graduation, he went on to serve his country as a Medic in the US Navy where he was stationed in Portsmouth, Va.  Upon his return to Batavia after completing his military commitment, he served the Batavia community as an orderly at the former St. Jerome’s hospital.  He then initiated his civil service career at the Batavia City Fire and Police Departments.  As a Patrolman, Detective, Youth Officer and Lieutenant, Bill’s heroic nature was best recognized on October of 1975 during the tragedy of the MacFarlane Manor Fire on Main St.  He was the first officer on the scene and was recognized for saving lives of 16 people who lived there. 

After his retirement from the police force, Bill remained active and spent many years painting and wallpapering for Chmielowiec Painting and United Memorial Medical Center. In retirement Bill did what he did best….enjoying his family, following the NY Yankees and catching up on the latest news at the Polka Dot or as he affectionately called it the “office”.

Bill leaves behind his  daughters and son in-laws Kellie and David DiVincenzo, Karin and Brett Wormley, his brother Kenneth J. Lewis, brother-in-law James (Joan) Adams, sister-in-law Sue Lewis, his grandchildren who are his pride and joy, Hailey Paige, Brooke, Chloe & Drew Wormley, Mary and Leigh DiVincenzo, great grandson William Fountain IV, mother of his daughters Diane Smith Lewis, his favorite four legged grand-pups Sammy and Luke, special nieces and nephews Susan, Michael, Shelley, Kathy, Kim, Danny, Marie, Patty and Neil, as well as their spouses and many great nieces and nephew.

Friends and Family are invited to celebrate Bill’s life at a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday May 4th 11:00am at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main St., Batavia, NY 14020.  He will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Gregory R. McQuillen

LeRoy -- Gregory Ryan McQuillen, age 39, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 26, 2019.

    

He was born November 12, 1979, a son of Christine and Stephen McQuillen.

     Gregg was a 2002 graduate of Erie Community College South where he earned an Associates degree in Applied Science in Automotive Technology through the MOPAR CAP Program. He graduated with Honorable Distinction. He worked for the New York State Thruway as a Toll Equipment Mechanic for 15 years. He enjoyed RC racing and snowmobiling. Gregg was truly an automotive enthusiast.

     Gregg is survived by his wife of 18 years, Tina (Mohr) McQuillen, his son Joshua Ryan and daughter Jenna Marie; parents Christine Carmichael (Rich Farnsworth) McQuillen and Stephen (Sheila) McQuillen; sister Stephanie (Jamie) Call and brother Stephen “Mack” (Elizabeth) McQuillen; niece, Samantha Call and nephew, Nicholas Call; Grandmother, Margaret (Peg) McQuillen along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as dear friends, especially Aaron Richenberg.

     His In-laws, Anne (Gary Gyorfi) Mohr, Andrew (Cindy) Mohr, brother-in-law, Dale (Sarah) Mohr also survive.

     He was predeceased by his grandparents, Rita and George Carmichael, Robert McQuillen, Uncle Terry “Tuba” McQuillen, and best friend Joshua Richenberg.

     Gregg was beloved by all who knew him.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where prayers and memories will be shared on Thursday at 10 A.M.

     Private interment will be at the Stafford Rural Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up at the Bank of Castile, so that memorials may be made for Gregg’s children, Joshua and Jenna.

Elizabeth "Betty" Osborn

Elizabeth “Betty” Osborn entered eternal happiness peacefully on April 28th, 2019.      

She was born June 24, 1928, the daughter of the late Steven Twardowski and Frances (Sass) Twardowski.

A life-long Batavian, Betty was a 1945 graduate from Batavia High School, and a 1949 graduate of St. Jerome School of Nursing.  She worked briefly at the Batavia Veterans Administration Hospital, and the majority of her nursing career was dedicated to the former Genesee Memorial Hospital.

Betty was a member of many organizations, including the American Legion and St. Joseph’s Sodality.

Betty enjoyed volunteering.  She is a past president of the IARP and long-time secretary for the Polish Falconettes, and most recently volunteered at the New York State Veterans Home.  She spent a lifetime participating in fundraising events for St. Joseph’s Church and the Polish Falcons, but nothing gave Betty more joy than spending time with her family.  She will be sadly missed.

She leaves behind her daughters, Debra of Batavia and Vicky of Columbus, Ohio; son Richard (Wendy DeFazio) of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Osborn; sister and best friend, Alice Lucore of Lockport. 

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest “Lefty” Osborn; son, Robert; siblings Florence Kujawski, Benny, Eddie, Ted, and Art Twardowski; and Ruth Smolen.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 2nd, from 3pm to 7pm, at the J. DUANE I. PENDER

DUANE I. PENDER ~ Age 72, of Basom, went peacefully home to the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born March 17, 1947, in Batavia, NY a son of the late Irving James and Florence (Hale) Pender.

Duane worked for many years at Batavia Machine and Tool until retiring from Corfu Machine. He was an accomplished bowler who in his younger days achieved the “perfect game” of 300, and an 815 series. A die-hard fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees, avid Horseshoe thrower, and played in numerous Softball leagues in the area for many teams. Duane held a seat “on the board” at the Basom Hotel.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy (Bieliski) Pender of Basom; his loving children, Kimberly (Todd) Metz of PA, Tim (Joy) Pender of Honeoye Falls and Dion (Julie) Pender of Fairport; sisters, Karen (late David) Easton of Medina, Sue (Ken) Gibson of Basom; mother-in-law, Audrey (Ted Baker) Bieliski of Medina; sisters-in-law, Margo (Frank) Sarchia of Middleport and brother-in-law, late Jimmy (Donna) Bieliski of Medina; sister-in-law, late Carol Viza; cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah, Bella, & Ava; “Best Goombas” Ron Zentz and “Air Bag” Richard Howell; along with several nieces and nephews.

Arlene Bird

Arlene Bird, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday (April 25, 2019) at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Batavia.

She was born January 16, 1930 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Raymond and Hazel Harmon Cleveland. Mrs. Bird was a lifelong resident of Batavia and was formerly employed for several years as a hostess for the former Treadway Inn and Alex’s Place.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Smith and Robin Bird Connelly; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous friends.

DONALD N. MILLS

DONALD N. MILLS ~ Age 94, of Oakfield, died peacefully Thursday April 25, 2019 at the home of his daughter under the care of his family and Hospice. Donald was born in the Town of Alabama, NY on March 27, 1925 a son of the late John and Edith (Boyce) Mills also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Louise Mills and siblings, Olin, Harold, George, Edward, Bertha Mills and Ida Borkholder.

He managed the Brundage and Mills Farms for many years and later managed the Oakfield Alabama School bus garage until retiring in 1999.  

He is survived by three daughters, LeAnne Cleveland, Linda (Rich) Miller and LaNora (Bob) Thompson all of Oakfield; nine grandchildren, Chris (Jeff) Covel, Bill (Anita) Cleveland, Michael (Dawn) Cleveland all of Oakfield, Cathy Cleveland and Derek Bell of Rochester, John (Melessa) Cleveland of Corfu, Jason (Kim) Miller of N. Chili, Kevin Miller of FL, Dan (Kate) Manges of Oakfield, Diana (Philip) Harrison of Dansville; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Covel, Chelsea and Christian Cleveland all of Oakfield, Angelina and Juliana Cleveland of Corfu, Ryan and Alaina Manges of Oakfield, Kaelyn Oliver and Brennan Harrison of Dansville along with many nieces and nephews.

At Donald’s request funeral services will be held privately by the family. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Reed Cemetery in Oakfield. Memorials can be made to Homecare & Hospice, Inc. or the Alabama Volunteer Fire Department.

WAYNE R. LADD

WAYNE R. LADD ~ Age 97, of Batavia, formally of Orangeville, NY died peacefully Sunday April 21, 2019 at the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. Wayne was born August 13, 1921 in Dansville, NY to the late Myron and Florence (Hartman) Ladd, preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; grandsons, Joseph and Kevin Ladd; great-grandson, Elliott Carver along with numerous brothers and sisters.

Wayne was proud to have served with the Army Air Corp during WWII in Africa until honorably discharged and a member of the Walter Klein American Legion Post #532 in Warsaw, NY. He was a Tool & Die Maker for GRS for many years, a member of the NAWCC Chapter 13, Western, NY and a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #413 in Varysburg, NY

Surviving is his beloved wife of 65 years, Emma (Mori) Ladd of Batavia; children, Mark (Cecilia) Ladd of Batavia, Martin (Patricia) Ladd of Greece and Mary (late Frank) Perry of Fairport; grandchildren, Frank (Kelley) Evans, Daniel Ladd, Tia Inclima, Jason Perry, Michael Perry and Jennifer (James) Carver; great-grandchildren, Walker, Hayes and Hadley Evans, Tabitha Perry, Isabelle and Sierra Carver; adopted sons, Lee Done and Glenn Stevens; nephew, J. Paul (Sharon) Ladd of Rochester along with many nieces and nephews.

James “Jim” Francis Kisicki, age 76, of Varysburg, NY passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Buffalo, NY on August 14, 1942 to the late Frank and the late Rose (Cwanek) Kisicki. He was preceded in death by his siblings, the late Eugenia (the late John) Closs, the late Geraldine Ratajczak and the late Francis (the late Susan) Kisicki.

Jim served in the US Army and was a member of the Varysburg Fire Department.

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane (Snyder); his children, Cheryl Kisicki, Janine (Heath) Szymczak, James Kisicki II,  Leanne (Kevin McDonald) Kisicki, Danielle Porter, Joel Brown, and Randy Brown; granddaughter, Katarina Szymczak; Siblings,  Ellen (Thomas) Kocialski, and Ronald (Wanda) Kisicki; brother-in-law, Robert Ratajczak.

Ione E. Johnson

Batavia -- Ione E. Johnson entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2019, at the age of 75.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Katherine Stiles; daughter, Katherine Lynn; sister and friend, Patricia Neth; and brothers, Frank, Bill, and Larry Stiles.

She is survived by a son, Terry Daniel (Kristine); daughters, Linda Marie (Tim), Tammy Lee (Patrick), Lori Ann, and Jody Renee (Rob); grandchildren: Adam, Joey, Dougie, Timmy, Ryan, and Katelynn; 10 great-grandchildren; sister and best friend, Sylvia (James) Marble; brother and best friend, Jim Stiles; brother, Dale Stiles; sisters, Donna Johnson and Lori Baldwin, her dog, Zoey; bird, Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 29th, from 11a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020, where a Memorial Service will be held immediately following at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Weidman officiating. Burial in the Grandview Cemetery.

Alice LeFort

  Alice LeFort, 90, of Attica, NY passed away on April 23, 2019 in Warsaw, NY surrounded by her family. She was born in Porterville, NY on July 20, 1928 to the late Edward    and the late Emma (Ott) Arndt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon in 1999.

Alice and her husband were farmers. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and canning. Her favorite thing to do was to drive her tractor.

Alice is survived by her children, Sharon (the late Peter) Davis, Richard (Jackie) LeFort, Linda Mattice, Patricia LeFort, Rita (Scott) Welker, and Mary (Ron) Motz; her sister, Myrtle Rammacher; 14 grandchilkdren and 24 great grandchildren.

Donna M. Ottaviani

Donna M. Ottaviani, 88 of Akron, passed away Monday (April 22, 2019) at Buffalo General Hospital.

She was born July 29, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Harold and Carrie Halstead Westcott.

Donna was employed by Alden Scientific prior to her retirement. She enjoyed crafts, painting, crocheting, reading, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her loving heart.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynda C. Ottaviani Sheehan of Akron. Son, Christopher (Pamela) Ottaviani of Phoenix, AZ. Grandchildren, Denise (Scott) Prior of Darien, James (Stacey) Sheehan IV of Lewiston and Christopher Ottaviani Jr. of Phoenix, AZ. Great-grandchildren, Wyatt Prior, Caleb Prior and Liam Sheehan.

She was the mother of the late David Ottaviani who passed away in 2002.

Richard R. McMullen "Rocky"

Richard R. McMullen “Rocky”, 66 of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly on Monday (April 22, 2019) at the Hill Haven Nursing Home in Penfield, NY.

He was born May 15, 1952 in Pembroke, NY, a son of the late John and Margaret Morrison McMullen.

Rick was formerly employed by Coca Cola Co. in Batavia and Rochester and retired from R.B. U’Ren Equipment in Rochester. He was a dedicated fan of the Buffalo Bills.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Pappalardo McMullen of Rochester. Step-daughter in law, Brenda (John) Crabtree of Virginia and grandchildren Katelyn Crabtree of Buffalo and Liam Crabtree of Virginia. Very close friend, Randy Williams of Rochester. Also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.

  Dennis F. Roberts, 79 of Attica, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born in Buffalo on June 10, 1939 to the late Fredrick (Norma Ruth) Roberts. He is preceded in death by a sister Shirley Limpinsel, brothers-in-law Robert Heller, Matthew “Sonny” Parrish and fur baby Gidget.  

Denny was a member of Attica Volunteer Exempt Fire Department Benevolent Association, WNY Gas & Steam Engine Association and past member of the Mighty St. Joe’s Drum Corp. He retired from Town of Attica Highway Department and was caretaker of St. Vincent’s Cemetery for many years. Denny was a longtime member of Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish in Attica.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary Jane (Parrish) Roberts of Attica; loving daughter Jody (Tim) Lutey of Stafford; beloved Pa to Rachel (Michael) Blecha of East Bethany; Matthew (Emily) Lutey of Batavia; Pop Pops beloved pride and joys, Macey & Preslee Blecha; Kylie & Claire Lutey; fur babies Cabela & CeCe. Beloved siblings, Paul (Linda) Roberts of Michigan; Ronald (Barbara) Roberts of Florida; Daralee (Donald) McCulloch of Attica; Michelle Carr and Frank of Arizona; Yvonne (Rex) Bishop of Colorado; brother-in-law Gene Limpinsel of Elma; sisters-in-law, Ann Heller of Florida; Joann Parrish, Nancy (David) Dimick of Attica; Cathy (James) Perl of Varysburg; Goddaughter Breanna Hummel, along with many loving nieces and nephews.  

Friends are invited to an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday April 27, 2019 at Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish, 50 East Avenue, Attica, NY 14011. Denny will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica.
