otoole.jpg  Sean Edward O’Toole, 54, Lyons, NY passed away on May 2, 2022, surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.

Sean graduated from Lyons High School in 1986 and continued his college education at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.  He lived in Florida for 10 years before returning home to be closer to family.  Sean started his sign business, Signtec and ran that for many years.  He met his wife, Meghan, in 2004 and they married in 2013.  They run their business 31Sheds in Lyons.  Sean loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles and snowmobiling.  He really enjoyed a good game of pool with friends.  Sean was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan.  Sean and Meghan have a beautiful camp on the Moose River, where they have enjoyed making memories with their children, family and friends.  Sean’s greatest accomplishment in life was becoming a father to his two daughters Ivy and Teagan.  If you know Sean, you know that he did not just follow the path of life; he blazed his own trail.

Sean is survived by his wife Meghan (Dash) O’Toole, daughters, Ivy and Teagan;  parents, Ted and Sharon O’Toole; sister Holly (Marc) Kreuser; nieces Megan and Grace; nephew, Ryan; and dearest friend Lucas Dobbins and many other friends.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, May 20th at the Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home 77 Williams St. Lyons, NY 14489.

arleen.jpg  Arleen L. Mortellaro, 81, of East Pembroke, NY, widow of Frank S. Mortellaro went to be with the Lord on May 6th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank in 1991. Her parents Merton (Danny) Parker (2000) and Eva Vaughn Parker (2003) brother Robert Parker (1952) Stepsons Frank Mortellaro Jr. and Michael Mortellaro.

Surviving are her three sons; Dan and Todd Mortellaro of Batavia, Scott Mortellaro (E. Pembroke); Stepson David (Lisa) Mortellaro (Virginia); Grandchildren Brehana (Ben) Leyo of Tennessee. Nathan (Mariah) Mortellaro of Michigan, Melissa and Benny Mortellaro (Virginia) Aunt Alice Zacher; Brother-in-laws Tony (Shirley) Mortellaro, Joe Mortellaro, Dick (Kathy) Mortellaro, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She married the love of her life Frank on April 9th 1965.  Since Frank had three boys already Mom wanted a baby girl. After three tries they were blessed with three more boysHer boys were everything to her. She was a devoted wife and mother. She will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren. We are consoled that she is now at peace and not suffering anymore.

judy1.jpg  Judy Ann Chapell, 80, of Oakfield passed away on May 5, 2022 at her home on Maple Ave. She was born on April 7, 1942 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Erwin “Curley” and A. Muriel (Jenkins) Chapell. In addition to her parents, Judy is predeceased by her siblings Erwin Chapell, Nancy Dersam, Linda Chapell, Jeanette (Richard) Moore, Roger (Carol) Kirkpatrick; brothers in law Oscar Kessler and Dayton Schultz Sr.

Judy was active in the Premier Genesee Day Program. They would do crafts and eat lunch together. She enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and watching Westerns on T.V.  Judy’s greatest love was going to Batavia Muckdogs Baseball games, and she loved singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”. Judy was loved by all the staff and residents where she lived and she loved them all back.

She is survived by her sisters; Carolyn Schultz and Norma Kessler; sister in law Carol Kirkpatrick, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ira P. Hale, "Ajax," 79, of Batavia passed away on May 4, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Ira was born May 10,1942 in Batavia, the son of the late Ira and Edna (Sumeriski) Hale.

Ira enjoyed tractor pulls, demolition derbies, racing and spending time with his great-granddaughters.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda (Tim Pahuta) Hale, Tammy Lowery, Lori (Tim Sloat) Hale, Lisa Amedick and Edna (Mike) Higgins; grandchildren, Douglas Smart, Jr., Timothy (Heather) Pahuta, Katelynn Connelly, Sabrina Higgins and Michael Higgins; great-grandchildren, Audrey Pahuta and Zoey Pahuta.

Preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Hale.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

myers_2.png  Joseph C. Myers, 85 of Warsaw, NY passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday May 4, 2022. He was born June 22, 1936 in Hume, NY. He was the son of the late Ernest and Rose (Kruppner) Myers.

Joe served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where he met and later married his wife of 50 years Rosa. After returning from the Army, Joe worked as a laborer for the Rochester Laborers Local 435 until his retirement. He enjoyed camping with his family in his earlier years and tinkering on small engines in his shop. Joe also had many steam engines that he enjoyed and would take to the steam pageants.

He is survived by his children, Joseph (Tina) Myers, Anthony (Lynn) Myers, Chrissy Myers (Ron); 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Rosa, daughter Judy, son Steven and his siblings Virginia Fronczak and Robert and Donald Myers

paulcperl.jpgPaul C. Perl, 84 of Sheldon, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Villages of Orleans Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albion. He was born October 21, 1937 in Buffalo to the late Cornelius and Mary (Conrad) Perl. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Almeter.  

Mr. Perl owned and operated Perl Farms in Sheldon with his son Lee, farming was his life. He was a lifetime member of St. John Neuman Parish in Sheldon.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bernice (Rautenstrauch) Perl, children, Lee (Amy) Perl, Bruce (Amy Snyder) Perl, Larry Perl, Stephen (Fiancé Jennifer Alfiero) Perl all of Sheldon, Cheryl (John) Kast of Albion, Linda (Bob) Haungs of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

thomasjsenick.jpgThomas Joseph Senick (Szczesniak), 74 of Attica. Passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at ECMC Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 28, 1947 in Buffalo, a son of the late Matthew (Szczesniak) and Emily (Kupras) Senick.

Tom was a graduate of Bishop Ryan High School Class of 1965 and Erie County Community College where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then began his lifelong career as a steamfitter out of Local Union #22. While employed Tom worked as a foreman on many projects and he taught math for the Local Union. He retired in 2002.

Tom loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel and walk his dog. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church he served as an Elder and on the Building and Grounds committee.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela (Williams) Senick; his children Kari (Steve) Amey; Amy Allison; Joshua Senick and grandchildren Zachary Amey; Zoee Amey; Kyle Jarboe; Gabriel Allison.

There will be a church service at the First Presbyterian Church, 115 Main St. Attica, on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica.

smigiel.jpg  Joseph J. Smigiel, 88 of Attica, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Williamsville. He was born February 28, 1934 in Buffalo to the late Edward and Martha (Zagorski) Smigiel. He is preceded in death by six brothers, Richard, Fred, Edward, Raymond, Theodore and John, a daughter-in-law Kim Smigiel.

Mr. Smigiel was a proud United States Army Veteran. He retired from Rusalander & Sons in Buffalo. Joe enjoyed puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.  

He is survived by his children, Kerri (Robert) Zehler of Williamsville, Melissa (Brian) Hall of Seattle, WA, and James Smigiel of TN, brother Donald (Joan) Smigiel, sisters, Patricia S’Zmanda both of Cheektowaga, Barbara Melancon of Tonawanda with several nieces and nephews.

m_jane.jpg  M. Jane Hall, 95, of Basom went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday May 2, 2022 at Premier Genesee Nursing Home in Batavia. She was born on January 17, 1927 in Alabama, NY to the late Fred and Sarah (Warner) Gilbert. In addition to her parents, Jane is predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years; Everett Hall; son Lee Hall; siblings Earl Gilbert, Rowland Gilbert, Olive Beals and Verna Hall.

Jane was a member of the Basom United Methodist Church where she served on various committees.  She loved her church and loved her Lord.  Jane worked for several years at the Klotzbach Egg Farm until she decided to start babysitting. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and crafting years ago with her Home Bureau girls. Jane’s greatest passion however was just being a wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma.  She was loved by all and will be forever missed.

She is survived by her children; Cheryl Totten, Lynn Hall and Darlene (Gary) Anderson; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 7, 2022 at the Alabama Basom United Methodist Church 1392 Church St. Alabama, NY 14013. Jane will be laid to rest in Alabama Cemetery.

gwendolynjohnson.jpgGwendolyn E. Johnson, 82 of Attica, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 15, 1939 in Batavia, to the late Richard Rowcliffe and Marjorie (Sass) Powers. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, LaVerne Johnson and granddaughter Rachael Dunn. 

Mrs. Johnson worked for many years at Darien Knitting Mill. She was an active member in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Attica. Gwen loved to bake and spend time with her family.   

She is survived by her beloved children, Kevin (Francine) Johnson of E. Bethany, Cynthia (Randy Nutty) Johnson of Attica, Justine (Keith) Acquard of Bennington, Brian Johnson of Attica; grandchildren, Alicia (Fiancé Jesse), Tara (Michael), Justin (Jessica), Anthony (Keesha), Andrea, Cody, Dominique (Nathan), Angelyna, great-grandchildren, Kayden, Emma, Tyler, Gavin, Brayden, Kamdyn, Alyssia, Rebecca, along with many nieces and nephews.
