THE REASON FOR THE BENEFIT: This benefit is to raise money, to replace clothing, furniture and other personal belongings lost in a house fire at 207 Washington Ave. The details, are as follows: On Sunday, January 7th an arrest attempt was made at 207 Washington Ave. Upper Apartment. Rather than submit, the upstairs resident elected to hold his girlfriend hostage and threaten the police officers with a gun. The downstairs tenants Cathy Hale, two sons and a puppy evacuated. After some time had passed, the girlfriend escaped through a window and fell part of the way to the ground suffering minor injuries. The afore mentioned suspect, Eddie Miles lit the attic and second floor on fire, he finally broke through a back window to a lower roof, and was taken into custody. Through no fault of their own the downstairs family (Cathy Hale) lost almost everything. They had only been there about 2 months and had not gotten renters insurance. That downstairs family was Tony Martino"s former wife, Cathy Hale-Martino and his two step-sons, Alex Rood and Paul Cipra. They were not hurt, but left in dire straits. A Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for Quinten Betances and Rivers Fanara will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Salvation Army headquarters at 529 E. Main St. in the City of Batavia.

The boys' mother, Melissa Eichelberger Betances (daughter of Doug and Sherry Mellenthine) passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 16.

Come out and show your suppport for these little ones. Tickets are $10, at the door or prepaid by contacting Tammy Griffin at 356-7631.

Tonight at Byron-Bergen School faculty and staff played basketball against the New York State Troopers from Troop A for a benefit. All of the proceeds will go to the USO, to honor Byron-Bergen students who have served or are now serving in the military.

Many supporters from families of the school including law enforcement came out to support the event. The NY State Troopers were a bit too strong tonight and beat the faculty 52-39. However it was all for fun and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
