If you were tooling around Batavia late Saturday and noticed a lot of classic cars passing through town, they were apparently here for a classic car rally in the parking lot of Tompkins Bank of Castile on East Main Street.

Russ and Jo Ann Nephew hosted their second classic car and tractor show at their home, 323 State St., Batavia on Sunday afternoon.

About 55 people attended the event, which featured a memorial tribute to car enthusiasts Jeanne Freeman, who lived in Byron, and David Smith, who resided in Pavilion. 

Numerous door prizes were awarded to attendees, who also were treated to lunch.

The Pembroke Classic Car Show returns to Pembroke Town Park on Sunday with another large turnout of cherry classic cars and car fans expected.

The event, sponsored by the Pembroke/Corfu/Darien Kiwanis Club runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The registration fee is $15 and is required for all participating vehicles. 

The number of trophy classes is expanding this year and the first 200 cars will receive a commemorative dash plaque.

More than  60 vendors are expected along with several food trucks. Crossroads House will host a huge basket raffle.  PCD Kiwanis will conduct a 50/50.  There will be a free blow-up slide for the kids and if you don't feel like walking ... ride the Trackless Train around the event. 

The Kids Car Cruise will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

The Pembroke Community Band will play from noon to 1:00 pm and a magician show will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. 

Pre-registration has ended for the cars but classic car owners who wish to attend can download the application at pcdkiwanis.com to save time the day of the event.

Pembroke Town Park was filled with classic cars today -- perhaps more than ever -- for the 13th Annual Pembroke Corfu Darien Kiwanis Club Annual Car Cruise & Fall Festival.

Rep. Chris Jacobs and Assemblyman Steve Hawley were on hand for the opening ceremonies, to meet constituents, and admire the beautiful cars.

As part of Oakfield's annual "Labor Daze," Crazy Cheap Cars hosted a classic car show on Saturday.

Over the past 14 years, Jesse and Jolene Coots have thrown a party at their home on Linwood Road that has steadily grown into what is the largest classic car and hot rod event in Genesee County but outside of the gearheads who enjoy it, only a few other people in the county, apparently, have known about it.

More than 2,000 people attend now and until The Batavian showed up Saturday -- to a warm welcome from Jesse and Jolene -- no news outlet in the region had ever covered the Hardcore Happening.

This is the second classic car I've seen in Batavia this summer with a flat black paint job. It's a nice look, I think.

Stan's Harley-Davidson hosted its annual classic car and classic bike drive-in today.

Stan's Harley Davidson hosted a car and bike show today at its location on West Saile Drive. More than 100 classic cars and show-quality motorcycles were on display throughout the afternoon.

Above, Stafford resident Don McDonald with his 1932 Ford, "Lucky Lady." McDonald bought the car in 1957 for $250, which was not only a lot of money in 1957, but it was a lot of money for a 1932 Ford, which in some cases could be picked up for $50 in those days, McDonald said. Some of his friends teased him then about overpaying for the car, but it's worth substantially more now.

They used to hang horse thieves, but what about people who heist classic ponies?

State Police are looking for help in locating a 1965 Ford Mustang that was stolen from a commercial lot in Newstead.

The car was being repainted and had the front bumper, front grill and headlights removed.

Anyone who may have seen this vehicle or with information on this investigation is asked to contact the New York State Police in Clarence at 716-759-6831.

UPDATE, Friday, 10:30 a.m.: Just received this message from the State Police:

Reference the attached press release sent on 09/10/09, this stolen vehicle was recovered at 9:15am in the Town of Newstead after someone read the artice in the Buffalo News and noticed the vehicle sitting unattended.  No arrests have been made at this time.
