UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: One injury reported. A child with a head injury, conscious and alert. Traffic at Route 246 will be shut down by fire police.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: A fire chief reports multiple accidents at the location.

UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: A second ambulance requested to the scene.

The Bethany Fire Department was among area departments, including Wyoming, Attica and Pavilion, to respond to a report of a field fire at 10:11 a.m. in the Town of Covington. Traffic was closed on West Middlebury Road while firefighters battled the blaze cutting through a field of grass and hay.

The initial investigation indicates that Daniel Culver, 48, of Byron, stopped to assist a truck driver who was lost and attempting to back her tractor-trailer up when Culver possibly had a medical issue and collapsed in the roadway.

Culver fell face first and was reportedly bleeding from the head. An off-duty Perry EMT who arrived on scene attempted to perform CPR, but was unable to revive Culver.

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office says an investigation into the incident is continuing.

Covington is part of the Pavilion Fire District.

There are two victims, and adult and a child. At least one victim was entrapped.

One Mercy Flight helicopter is in route.
