The Notre Dame XC teams had great showings on Saturday at the McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester. It was a great day for Jeffrey Antolos as he led his team in the seeded race, finishing a close second in 14:55 which tied for the fastest time by a Section V runner. It is the first time a Notre Dame runner has broken the 15:00 barrier over a 3 mile course. Arron Carlson ran a strong race in 17:47 to place 47th. Alec Covel placed 133rd (18:21), Ryan Fuller 156th (18:59), Dennis Bleier 165th (19:23) and Bryan Mosicki 179th (20:37). The team finished in 20th place in the 28 team field. The girls team finished in 14th place in the elite seeded race. Laurie Call led the Irish running 19:31 to place 39th with Anna Warner close behind in 19:36 and 42nd place. Emily McCracken was the next to cross the line in 20:11 and 65th place. Shelby McGinnis finished 108th (21:06), Rose Flumerfeldt 160th (23:12), Madison Gluck 165th (23:23), Hannah Pingrey 177th (24:04), and Emily Sherman 189th (25:03).

Both the boy's and girl's cross country teams grabbed three of four at Oatka Park tonight. The teams triumphed over Holley, Cal-Mum and Geneseo, but fell to Way-Co. Jeff Antolos was again untouchable winning by his usual minute over second place with a 16:14. Arron Carlson placed 7th in the race in 18:00 and brother Justin was 10th in 18:41. Ryan Fuller ran to place 20th (20:00), Alec Covel was 23rd (21:03), Dennis Bleier 25th (21:32) and Bryan Mosicki 32nd (23:00). In the girl's race Emily McCracken paced the Irish placing 4th in 20:52, with Laurie Call 5th in 21:10 and Anna Warner 7th with 21:17. Shelby McGinnis placed 12th (22:59), Madison Gluck was 19th (24:43), Rose Flumerfeldt placed 21st (26:25), Hannah Pingrey was 25th (26:45) and Emily Sherman was 28th (27:21).

The Notre Dame Cross Country Girls team ran to a 4th place finish at the East Aurora Invitational on Saturday. Junior Laurie Call led the Irish over the 3 mile course with a 5th place finish of 19:23 and Sophomore Anna Warner grabbed 10th with 19:50. Fellow Sophomore Eily McCracken placed 18th with 20:10, Freshman Shelby McGinnis 45th with 21:32 and Sophomore Rose Flumerfeldt rounded out the top five placing 66th in 23:16. Freshman Emily Sherman placed 78th with 25:19. The boy's team captured 7th place, just 9 points out of 4th. Senior Jeff Antolos ran away with the race with 15:24, a full minute ahead of the second place finisher and the second fastest time of the day. Fellow Senior Arron Carlson placed 10th with 17:04. Sophomore Justin Carlson was 35th in 18:04, Junior Alec Covel was 61st in 18:51 with Juinor Ryan Fuller close behind in 18:59 to place 64th. Freshman Bryan Moscikci and Sophomore Dennis Bleier battled it out at the finish to place 97th and 98th respectively with 21:13. Next up on Tuesday are key match-ups with Way-Co, Geneseo, Holley, and Cal-Mum at Oatka Park.

The Notre Dame Girl's Cross Country team raised their record to 4 -1 Tuesday evening at Livonia High School beating Oakfield, Bath-Haverling and Wheatland-Chili while dropping to host Livonia. Emily McCracken, Anna Warner, and Laurie Call finished 3 - 4 - 5 in the race with Shelby McGinnis placing 17th. Madison Gluck was the deciding factor in the score with Oakfield with her 25th place finish. ND now leads Division III.

The boy's had a rough night falling to Wheatland-Chili and Livonia, but were able to get by Oakfield and Bath-Haverling. Jeff Antolos easily won the race by well over a minute. Arron Carlson finished 5th. The boy's are now 3 - 2 on the season and second in Division III.

The teams are in action this Saturday at the East Aurora Invitation at 10:00am

The Notre Dame Cross Country Team opened up with an easy win against Keshequa at Genesee County Park Course 1. Jeff Antolos set a new school course record in the boys race running 16:13 (formerly held by Dan Bobo at 16:25) with Arron Carlson taking second in 17:51. Justin Carlson was third in 18:24, Ryan Fuller 6th (19:29) and Alec Covel 7th (19:44). Dennis Bleier (20:48) and Bryan Moscicki (23:02) rounded out the scoring placing 10th and 11th respectively. The girls team had a little easier time taking the top four spots behind Anna Warner (20:36), Laurie Call (20:38), Emily McCracken (21:01) and Shelby McGinnis (22:24). Madison Gluck finished 6th (24:40), Rose Flumerfeldt 7th (25:48) Hannah Pingrey 9th (25:55) and Emily Sherman 10th (26:30). The Irish will be going again on Saturday at the West Seneca Inviational at Sunshine Park on Saturday. Girls race at 12:00 noon and the boys at 1:00pm.

It was a weekend of wins and records for student athletes in Genesee County, with Le Roy Girls Volleyball and three cross-country runners picking up sectional titles.

In volleyball, Le Roy girls won their second straight Section V title with a 3-0 win over Williamson Central. Kaitlyn Tyler had 16 kills and Montana Vestovi added 24 assists for Le Roy (15-4). Le Roy will face Waterloo Tuesday in the Class C regional qualifier at Cal-Mum.

With a time of 16:02 Jeffrey Antolos of Notre Dame claimed a Class D cross-country title. Anna Warner took a girls Class DD title with a time of 19:47. Pavilion's  Liz Valento took a Class D title with a time of 19:02.

Notre Dame won the Class DD team championship with 71 points.

Other top finishers in their classes include: Pembroke’s Randi Rudnik (17:47) in ninth; Andrew Fischer, Notre Dame, fifth (17:12); Oakfield-Alabama's Connor George (17:16), sixth; and teammate Gabe Bender, seventh (17:18).

In swimming, Batavia's Catherine McAllister, Sarah DiBacco, Helen Zickl and Alayna Mlodozeniec set a Batavia school record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.30, which placed them in fifth in their sectional meet.

In other sectional action, Pavilion Girls Volleyball lost to Cal-Mum in a Class CC final match. BHS Girls Volleyball dropped a Class B final to Wayne Central, 4-1. Notre Dame's girls dropped a qualifer match to Harley-Allendale-Columbia, 3-2.

Two members of the Notre Dame Cross Country team represented Section V in the New York State Cross Country Championships at Lakeside Park in Pawling, NY on November 13.  Eighth Grader Anna Warner (1516) was Section V's 5th runner, placing 32nd overall in the Class D race in 21:41.  Sophomore Jeffrey Antolos (553) was also Section V's 5th runner in the Class C race, placing 53rd overall with a time of 18:07.  Both runners finished up their rookie seasons in fine fashion.

XC Sectionals 229.JPGThe Notre Dame girls cross country team claimed the Class D title on Saturday at the Section V Cross Country Championships at GCC. The girls team last won in 2006 and it is the sixth title for the girls program (1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006). Eighth grader Anna Warner led the Irish with a second place finish covering the course in 20:44. Her performance also qualified her to represent Section V at the New York State Cross Country Champioships in Pawling next weekend.

The top ten in each class receive sectional patches and ND had five finishers in that top ten. Freshman Bailee Welker placed 5th in 21:23, Junior Meghan Zickl 7th in 21:36, Eighth Grader Rosemary Flumerfeldt 8th in 21:51, and Senior Kristen Antolos was 9th in 22:14. Also racing for ND was Sophomore Madison Gluck finishing 18th in 24:03 and Eighth Grader Janelle Fancher placing 34th in 25:54.

The boys team was moved up to Class C this year due to winning too many titles in Class D and finished fifth in Class C. Sophomore Jeffrey Antolos paced the Irish placing 5th in 17:18. His performance qualified him for the New York State Cross Country Championships next weekend. Junior Andrew Fischer finished 18th in 18:11, followed by Sophomore Arron Carlson 24th in 18:24. Senior Nick Flumerfeldt finished 30th in 18:46 and Junior Luke Calla 39th in 19:01 to round out the scoring for ND. Junior Matt Sausner placed 51st in 19:30 and Senior Tyler Pingrey 58th in 19:50 were the other racers for the Irish.

The Notre Dame Boys Cross-Country Team had an excellent showing at the 46th Annual McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.

The boys' finished the program's best ever placing at McQuaid taking 2nd, five points behind Campbell-Savona in the 36-team field of the Varsity A-3 race for Small Schools.

Leading the Irish was junior Andrew Fischer who placed 6th covering the course in 16:53, followed by sophomore Arron Carlson who placed 10th in 17:06.

ND's third man is sophomore rookie Jeffrey Antolos who placed 21st with 17:27. Senior Nick Flumerfeldt placed 33rd in 17:44 and junior Luke Calla rounded out the scoring five, placing 47th in 18:06. Matt Sausner ran to a 90th-place finish with 19:09.

The girls' team also had an impressive performance placing 7th in the 39-team field of the Varsity A-3 Race for Small Schools.

Junior Meghan Zickl led the Irish with her 37th place finish of 21:04. Freshman Bailee Welker followed close behind in 46th with a 21:19 and rookie eighth-grader Anna Warner finished in 48th with a 21:20. Senior Kristen Antolos was 74th in 22:30 and eighth-grader Rose Flumerfeldt rounded out the scoring five with a 23:29 that was good for 100th place. Eighth-grader Janelle Fancher ran a 24:22 that placed her 120th.

The Irish Boy's also had a team of five for the Varsity B race, in which senior Conlan Edwards led to a 59th-place finish with a 19:56, the first time the senior has broken 20:00 in Cross-Country.

Freshman Ryan Fuller covered the course in 20:19 for 94th place and Senior Tyler Pingrey finished right behind in 103rd in 20:27.

Senior Devin Sherman finished 168th in 21:26 and rookie junior Steven Cochrane was 234 in 23:04. The Varsity B team finished in 20th place in the 60-team field.

The Notre Dame Boys Cross Country Team made school history on Saturday after becoming the first Notre Dame athletic team to win 4 consecutive Section V titles.  Senior Kevin Pawlak has been a part of each of those victories, and led the team with his 3rd place finish in the Class D meet.  Sophomore Andrew Fischer was right behind in 4th and Senior Nate Flumerfeldt 5th.  Junior Nick Flumerfeldt placed 15th and Sophomore Matt Sausner stepped up big to place 29th to round out the scoring.  Senior Jason Harasimowicz and Junior Tyler Pingrey also put up solid performances for the Irish.  The boys beat runner-up Arkport by 19 points.  Along with the team championship, KP, Fish, and Nate received individual patches for finishing in the top ten.  In the merged D/DD results, the Irish placed third and fell short in their quest to return to the state championship meet in Plattsburgh.


The Girls Team also had great performances as Sophomore Meghan Zickl and Senior Rachel Berggren finished in the top ten, taking 9th and 10th respectively to earn individual patches.  Eighth grader Bailee Welker placed 12th, Junior Kristen Antolos 15th, and Jumior Sydney Moag 54th to round out the team scoring.  The team placed 3rd in the Class D meet which was won by Arkport.

A change of venue for the Section V High School Cross Country Championships puts Batavia and Genesee Community College at center stage this Saturday.  The college grounds will be filled with runners and their families and friends from 92 Section V schools vying for individual and team championship titles.  Here is a list of the race times:

The Genesee/Livingston County Cross Country Championships were held yesterday at Leroy High School.  All 22 schools from the Genesee Region League and Livingston County League came together for the 3.0 mile race at Leroy, the first time Leroy has hosted the event.  The site was changed to Leroy from Genesee Community College due to Section V hosting the Section V XC Championships at GCC next weekend.

Pavilion had a stellar day, with both the boys and the girls teams winning the team title.  Pavilion girls were led by race winner Liz Valento, who set a new course record.  The Pavilion boys were led by Tylor Richardson who placed 7th in the boys race which was won by Geneseo's Ryan Moynihan.

The Boys Cross Country Team put a scare into state ranked Pavilion yesterday coming within 2 points of the upset.  Kevin Pawlak and Andrew Fischer finished first and second in the race to lead the Irish.  Nate Flumerfeldt placed 6th, Nick Flumerfeldt 13th, and Jason Harasimowicz 22nd as the Irish beat Attica, Alexander, and Pembroke.  Luke Calla 27th, Matt Sausner 30th, Woody Clark 38th, Dan Follett 45th, Tyler Pingrey 46th, Conlan Edwards 52nd, and Devin Sherman 53rd also put up strong races as the boys finish the regular season at 16 – 5.


The Girls Cross Country team fell to Attica and Pavilion and beat Pembroke and Alexander yesterday at Alexander.  Meghan Zickl led the Irish finishing 8th, with Rachel Berggren in 10th.  Bailee Welker finished 11th, Kristen Antolos placed 15th and Sydney Moag 28th to help the Irish finish the dual meet season at 11 – 10. 


Both Cross Country Teams are heading into the championship season with the County Championships next Thursday 10/29 at Leroy High School and the Section 5 Championships on November 7th at GCC.

The boys and girls Cross Country Teams put up some fast times despite the strong winds Tuesday at Byron Bergen High School .  The boy’s beat Leroy, Bergen and Way-Co after taking 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th in the race behind Nate Flumerfeldt, Kevin Pawlak, Andrew Fischer, and an excellent race by Nick Flumerfeldt.  Jason Harasimowicz stepped up to be the 5th man for the Irish finishing in 15th place.  Luke Calla finished 18th, Matt Sausner 20th, Woody Clark 23rd, Dan Follett 25th, Tyler Pingrey 27th and Conlan Edwards 31st.  The boys raise their record to 13 – 4.

The Irish girls beat Leroy on the performance and efforts of Sydney Moag, who stepped up in a big way for the team.  The girls fell to Bergen and Way-Co.  Bailee Welker led the Irish with a 6th place finish followed by Meghan Zickl in 7th.  Kristen Antolos had a break-through day to finish 12th and Rachel Berggren placed 14th.  The girls are even at 8 - 8

The Notre Dame Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams opened the regular season up on winning notes in beating Keshequa in a meet held at Avon High School.  Kevin Pawlak was the race winner in 17:39.  The Irish took the next four spots with Nate Flumerfeldt (18:23), Andrew Fischer (18:50), Nick Flumerfledt (19:38), and Luke Calla (19:57).  Jason Harasimowicz (20:37) and Matt Sausner (21:27) finished 9th and 10th respectively.  Conlan Edwards and Woody Clark (24:19) finished neck and neck with Conlan out-leaning Woody to take 12th and 13th in the race.  The final score was ND 15 and Keshequa 44.  The score of Cross Country is based on places so that the team with the low score wins.

The girl's had an easy day as the Keshequa girl's had an incomplete team.  The top four Irish ladies all finished within 15 seconds of each other.  Rachel Berggren was second in the race with a 24:30, with Bailee Welker in third (24:32), Meghan Zickl fourth (24.35) and Kristen Antolos fifth (24:45).  Teresa Jackson (30.19) placed 6th, Jenny Calarco (31:13) was 7th and Sydney Moag (41.28) placed 8th.

The Irish will be off this weekend and back in action on next Tuesday in Livonia.

The Notre Dame Cross Country Team opened up in great fashion over the weekend at the Pre-State Invitational held at SUNY Plattsburgh.  The girls finished in a tie for 7th place, but lost the tie breaker to North Warren.  Rachel Berggren finished in 33rd place on a great kick to the finish.  Meghan Zickl set the pace for the Irish early on to hold on to a 36th place finish with 8th grader Bailee Welker just ahead in 34th.  Kristen Antolos was just behind to finish 45th and Teresa Jackson rounded out the Irish top five in taking 66th.

The boy’s team also ended up in a tie for 8th place and won on the tie-breaker over Lake George.  Kevin Pawlak led the Irish with a 20th place finish with Nate Flumerfeldt close behind in 23rd place.  Andrew Fischer fought hard to finish 42nd, Nick Flumerfeldt held on to finish 56th and Luke Calla 59th.  Jason Harasimowicz was the deciding factor in the meet for the Irish and won the tie breaker over the sixth runner of Lake George.  Matt Sausner rounded out the top seven with a 77th place finish.  In the JV race, Woody Clark was 46th and Conlan Edwards 50th. 

The Irish Cross Country Team opens open its regular season tomorrow in Avon against Keshequa.

 While no area boys made the all-state teams, we had a few local girls make the all-state teams.

Batavia's Angela Jarvela made the fourth team for Class B.

Holley's Kristina Martin is on the fourth team for Class C and Oakfield-Alabama's Kim Mills made the first team in Class D.

Batavia junior Angela Jarvela earned All-Greater Rochester honors for cross country. She is a first-team selection for the awards handed out by the Democrat & Chronicle.

Jarvela, a junior, took sixth at the Monroe County championships and went to states for the fourth consecutive season. She finished 23rd in Class B and was second at the Alden Invitational.

Oakfield-Alabama's Kim Mills and Holley's Kristina Martin made the second team.  

No local boys made the All-Greater Rochester team, but we did have several honorable mentions.

 The Cortland cross country team recently captured the NCAA Division III championship, finishing tops out of 32 teams in the field at the D3 championships at Hanover College.

The coach of that squad is Steven Patrick, a Batavia High graduate. He has had a nice career at Cortland.

In the spring of 2008, Patrick was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Division III Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. He guided Cortland to a second-place national finish along with a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III runner-up finish.

The fantastic season of the Notre Dame Boys Cross Country Team wrapped up with a third place finish at the New York State Cross Country Championships at Sunken Meadow State Park in Long Island.  Beaver River was the winning team with 57 points and Barker squeaked ahead of ND by one point.  Junior Kevin Pawlak was the top Irish harrier, finishing in 18th place in 18:05.  Freshman Quin O'Connor, ND's #1 man, was injured on the first downhill of the race after the mile mark, but fought through the final two miles to finish in 24th place in 18:15 (it was discovered yesterday that he fractured his heel in the race.  He will be back on his feet in late December).  Senior Eric Shormann had another great race and finished 40th, with Seniors Matt Jackson 44th, and Taylor Alexander 55th.  Junior Nate Flumerfeldt came in 71st and Freshman Marshall Argenta was 109th. 

The Pembroke team ran to a seventh place finish with 156 points.  Newark Valley won a one point decision with 62.  Colin Bartholomew taking 24th place.  Matt Seward was 48th, Adam Mahaney 69th, Kyle Mauer 70th, Mark Riegel 91st, Ben Farley 103rd, and Ethan Burns 108th. 

Other area racers included:  Class C Girls: Kristina Martin of Holley placed 21st, Katie Piechowiak of Attica placed 60th.  Class D Girls:  Kim Mills of Oakfield placed 7th, Liz Valento of Pavilion placed 10th.  Class B Girls:  Angela Jarvela of Batavia finished in 23rd place.  Class C Boys:  Frank Johnson of Letchworth placed 14th, Jaked Krautweist of Leroy placed 34th and Jack Bennett of LeRoy placed 51st.  Class D Boys:  Kevin Grazioplene placed 8th, Justin Richardson of Pavilion placed 17th, and Craig Cicero of Perry finished 25th.
