This week offers a cultural opportunity to support local artists, and in this case also local filmmakers, screenwriters and actors.

From 5:30 till 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 the College is hosting the fourth annual Western New York Film, Art and Music Event (FAME), organized by Beaver Alley Studios Inc. and cosponsored by the CineMagic, a GCC student organization. The event will be held in the central Forum of the Batavia Campus.

T.F. Brown's hosts Christmas Happy Hour and Ugly Sweater Contest, bring new toy to donate, DSP Jazz Trio performs, specials and prizes

T.F. Brown's Restaurant will host Christmas Happy Hour and an Ugly Sweater Contest from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Donate a new, unwrapped toy and get your first beverage free!

There will be dinner and drink specials, an Ugly Sweater Contest -- the ugliest one wins! Join in the fun for a chance to win great prizes.

The DSP Jazz Trio will perform live music from 5 to 8 p.m.

All donated toys will benefit the T.F. Brown's and Batavia Lions Club annual Community Christmas Dinner.

Pembroke Girls Basketball Team hosts 'Shooting For A Cure' to raise money for cancer research

The Pembroke Jr./Sr. High School Girls’ Basketball Team will host its ninth annual "Shooting For A Cure!" event versus Oakfield-Alabama at 7 p.m. on Jan. 16 at the high school gym, located at the corner of routes 5 and 77 (8717 Alleghany Road).

Admission is free.

The gym opens at 5; the JV games starts at 5:50, followed by the charity versity game at 7.

The team asks that attendees make a donation of any amount as they enter the facility, and all donations go to Roswell Park to support cancer reearch efforts.

Grand Opening of Boy Scouts' Volunteer Service and Training Center in Village of Oakfield; ribbon cutting is at 1:30 p.m.

The Boy Scouts of America, Iroquois Trail Council, is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its Volunteer Service and Training Center, located at 102 S. Main St. in the Village of Oakfield on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Doors will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. A commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. 

The Council secured the location following an exhaustive search of properties in and around the Batavia area, which is central to its five-county service area.

Final History Trivia Night at HLOM for 2019

Musicians from First Presbyterian Church in Batavia perform Christmas songs for patrons inside T.F. Brown's

The band of musicians at First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, known as the Arise Band, will perform Christmas songs at T.F. Brown's Restaurant from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9 while people have dinner.

It's a nice, simple way to share the spirit of Christmas with the community.

Stop by for a bite to eat and some Christmas music to cheer your soul. All are invited to listen. It's free.

Jackson Primary School staff works at Eastown Plaza McDonald's today -- It's 'McTeacher's Night' -- a fundraiser

Staff members at Jackson Primary School are working today (Dec. 3) from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at McDonald's restaurant at 373 E. Main St. -- Eastown Plaza.

"McTeacher's Night" is a fundraiser for the school and 15 percent of all sales will go to Jackson Home School Association.

Plus, there will be a 50/50 raffle and basket raffles in the dining area at McDonald's.

If your child completes the coloring page on the back of last week's flier and brings it to McTeacher's Night, he or she will get a free ice cream cone or sliced apples!

Public hearing at Old Courthouse on proposed law on GC officeholders' salaries

Notice is hereby given that there has been introduced before the Legislature of the County of Genesee, New York, Local Law Introductory No. 3, Year 2019, a Local Law in Relation to the Salaries of Genesee County Officers Elected or Appointed for a Fixed Term.

The Genesee County Legislature will conduct a Public Hearing on proposed local law Introductory at the Old Courthouse, 7 Main St., Batavia, at 5:30 p.m. on the 11th day of December.

All interested persons will be heard.

Renowned tintype photographer Rob Gibson to speak and give demo at free public event in Pembroke Jr./Sr. High School library

A world-renowned photographer who specializes in tintype artistry and who is a Civil War historian will be the special guest at Pembroke Jr./Sr. High School tomorrow (Dec. 3).

Rob J. Gibson will give a free public presentation and demonstration in the evening from 6:30 to 9 in the school library entitled "Recreating the Past: The Vintage Photography of Rob Gibson."

24th annual Service of Prayer & Remembrance at Northgate Free Methodist Church, Batavia

The H.E. Turner & Co., Bohm-Calarco-Smith and Burdett & Sanford Funeral Homes are proud to present their 24th annual Service of Prayer & Remembrance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11. All are invited.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for the service at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road, Batavia.

The third annual "Red Osier Landmark Restaurant Community Days --Winter Wonderland of Lights" will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on the next two consecutive Mondays -- Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. 

The public is invited to the restaurant grounds at 6492 Main Road in Stafford to stroll through the "Winter Wonderland of Lights" featuring more than 2.5 million lights.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there and families are welcome to take free photos with them.

There will also be free horse and carriage rides and a free Petting Zoo.

Let's All 'Stuff the Cruiser': Local law enforcement agencies and Rotary team up in Target parking lot for holiday charity event

Le Roy Police Department is putting on a special charity event on Saturday, Nov. 30, to help Genesee County families in need this holiday season.

Le Roy PD will be joined by New York State Police -Troop A in Batavia, New York State Environmental Conservation Police, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Batavia Police Department, Corfu Police Department, Genesee County Probation and Rotary International.

Free 'Christmas Magic' for youngsters at Hollwedel library with pro magician

Hollwedel Memorial Library is hosting an awesome professional Christmas-themed magic show, open to the community, at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.

The free show, titled “Christmas Magic,” is being used as part of the library’s efforts to encourage children to read more during the holiday season.

The magic show is presented by professional magician Cris Johnson and will feature music, age-appropriate humor, fun magic, audience participation, and more. The show is intended for children ages 4-12 and any fun-loving adults.

Northgate church invites community to free annual Vintage Christmas event

Northgate Free Methodist Church invites the community to its annual Vintage Christmas event on Friday, Dec. 6. This family friendly event will be “come and go as you please,” from 6 to 8 p.m.

Enjoy a guided tour of a live nativity through the community prayer walk, complete with yuletide carols and hot chocolate. Come decorate cookies, visit with Santa, enjoy a few classic Christmas movies on our outdoor movie screen, all while staying cozy around a campfire.
