A car is reportedly on fire in the parking lot of the Pembroke Service  Area, off the Thruway.

East Pembroke Fire responding.

UPDATE 6:44 p.m.: A responder at the scene says the car fire is fully involved.

Oakfield Fire Department is responding to a reported tractor fire at Lamb Farms.

The tractor is near a building.

A possible structure fire is reported at 111 State St.

There is smoke in the residence, which is confirmed by a police officer who responded to the alarm.

City Fire Department on scene.

UPDATE 8:20 a.m.: Firefighter: "It looks like it's a piece of clothing on top of a lamp in the bedroom." Later, "The source has been removed to the outside."

UPDATE 8:30 a.m.: City fire back in service.

A possible vehicle fire is reported on the westbound Thruway near mile marker 384.0. Le Roy Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. The vehicle reportedly went off the roadway and then began to smell like something was burning inside.

Dispatch advises that the accident happened awhile ago and now the driver is complaining of pain.

UPDATE 7:39 p.m.: The Le Roy chief put his units back in service, since apparently there was no fire.

UPDATE 7:52 p.m.: Mercy medics are headed to UMMC with the driver.

We don't have the location or time of call, but there is a grass fire in Indian Falls Alabama, on Tesnow Road.

Indian Falls, Pembroke and Alabama fire departments are on scene.

There was concern about power lines in the area and National Grid is on scene. The fire is apparently mostly knocked down at this time.

UPDATE 10:04 a.m.: Water is being shut down as a safety precaution because electrical lines just dropped on the ground.

UPDATE 10:07 a.m.: Water is flowing again.

UPDATE 11:15 a.m.: Fire is actually at 369 Wright Road. It's a former U.S. National Gypsum facility, and after that Stylecraft built manufactured homes at the location. It's currently owned by Bill Eberhardt. A large pile of old railroad ties caught on fire. The fire was reported by the pilot of a private airplane. Alabama Chief Gary Patnode said the ties are from a railroad line torn out 25 years ago. He said the property owner told him he's had trouble with trespassers recently, particularly young ATV riders. Deputy Ron Meides said his report will say that a controlled burn -- there's a large section of the property that is being cleared of brush -- ignited the railroad ties. Mutual aid provided Indian Falls, Pembroke and Akron, with East Pembroke filling in at Indian Falls and Shelby filling in at Alabama. (I have one picture to post, but a weak internet signal at my current location ... will add photo to this post later.)

Bergen, NY - The Bergen Fire Department was dispatched to 7665 Swamp Road for a reported house fire this afternoon. Chief Paul Cummings reported heavy fire from the garage of the single-story residence upon his arrival.

Mutual aid was requested from 13 area departments, which either assisted at the scene or filled in. Chief Cummings reported "we were short on manpower" in this all-volunteer, rural community.

During their attack on the fire, it became unsafe for firefighters to operate inside the structure and an exterior attack eventually brought the stubborn fire under control. One firefighter said that "the extensive collection of personal belongings gathered inside made it hazardous to be inside."

A neighbor reported hearing a "pop or explosion" shortly before he witnessed firetrucks pulling up outside.

An excavator from Thompson and Dilcher was brought to the scene to raze the structure and few personal belongings were salvageable.

The Genesee County Office of Emergency Management was investigating the cause of the fire and the American Red Cross was providing assistance to two adults.

The following departments reposnded to the scene or provided fill-ins; LeRoy, Churchville, Chili, Clifton, City of Batavia, Town of Batavia, Brockport, Byron, South Byron, Stafford, Spencerport, Pavillion and Clarendon.

An explosion in a garage located at 7665 Swamp Road in Bergen has sparked a possible structure fire. The garage, which is attached to the house, is full of smoke. Bergen and Le Roy fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: A second platoon of firefighters from the Town of Batavia is called to standby in its fire hall. National Grid is called to the scene. The Bergen fire chief has called for power saws and an infrared camera. Brockport is called to fill in at Bergen's hall.

UPDATE 4 p.m.: The homeowner asked about the status of the fire. The chief says "It doesn not appear to have made it into the house yet." An engine and more manpower from the Town of Batavia is requested to the scene.

UPDATE 6:52 p.m. (by Howard): The house is a total loss. The amount of items stored inside kept firefighters from entering the house and the attack was conducted strictly from the outside. While the fire is now smoldering with much of the house still standing, the only way, according to Chief Paul Cummings, to ensure the fire is completely out is to knock down the structure with a backhoe. That process started around 6 p.m. We'll have complete coverage later tonight. 

UPDATE 8:47 p.m.: Swamp Road is reopened.

A fire that destroyed a barn on West Bergen Road, Le Roy, on Friday night, remains under investigation.

It was spotted by a neighbor just before 8:20 p.m., who alerted the owner, Brian Boneberg, who then called 9-1-1.

The blaze was small when it was fist spotted, but spread quickly.  

By the time Le Roy Chief Mike Sheflin arrived on scene, the barn was fully involved.

The structure was less than 100 feet from a house and Sheflin praised the volunteer crews who kept the flames from spreading.

"We had a fast response from our firefighters and we were able to control the fire quickly," Sheflin said.

Strong water flow from the nearby hydrants also helped the responding departments swiftly beat back the flames, Sheflin said.

No injuries were reported.

Besides Le Roy, responders included Pavilion and Caledonia. Stafford filled in at Le Roy's hall and York filled in at Pavilion's hall.

Le Roy Ambulance was also at the scene.

A fully involved barn fire is reported in Le Roy at 8029 W. Bergen Road. All available Le Roy equipment is called in, including mutual assistance from Bergen and Pavilion fire departments. Le Roy medics are also en route.

A 16-gallon oxygen tank is reported to be inside, according to the homeowner.

UPDATE 8:25 p.m.: An engine from Churchville is called to fill in at Bergen's fire hall. Monroe County Water Authority is to be notified that some of their hydrants will be used in fighting the blaze.

UPDATE 8:29 p.m.: An engine from Stafford is called to fill in at Le Roy's fire hall.

UPDATE 8:43: A pumper truck from Caledonia is on scene, too, and fire police are mustering to handle nearby roadways.

UPDATE 11:52 p.m.: Le Roy Fire back in service.

A possible structure fire is reported at 7554 Pekin Road in Elba. Elba Fire Department is on scene and the chief says nothing is showing. The fan over the stove reportedly caught fire and was unplugged but is still smoking.

A stove fire has been reported in an apartment on Gilbert Street, Le Roy.

The first is reportedly is at 82 Gilbert St., building 12, apartment 14, of the Royal Apartments.

Le Roy fire and Le Roy ambulance dispatched.

UPDATE 8:37 p.m.: The assignment is being held to Engine 63.

UPDATE 8:38 p.m.: Fire is out. A crew will check the kitchen with a termal camera. Le Roy ambulance back in service.

A fire is reported in the bathroom of a home on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, located at 393 Bloomingdale Road. Alabama Fire Department is responding, along with mutual aid from Indian Falls.

UPDATE 12:39: The address was incorrect. It is 493 Bloomingdale Road, located off the roadway between Martin and Parker roads.

UPDATE 12:47 p.m.: The fire is out. An ambulance is requested to the scene for a victim of smoke inhalation.

UPDATE 12:53 p.m.: The chief says the fire was likely sparked by a faulty electrical outlet.

UPDATE 12:58 p.m.: The Alabama and Indian Falls units are back in service.

An oven fire has extended into the kitchen of an apartment at 86 1/2 S. Main St. in the City of Batavia. City crews are responding.

UPDATE 3:37 p.m.: They are opening the windows and venting the place. There is a lot of smoke but no flames.

UPDATE 3:39 p.m.: The fire is out.

A house was struck by lightning and now there's the smell of smoke in the residence, located at 5024 Terry Hills Drive. The occupants have evacuated the premises.

Town of Batavia Fire Department is on scene and reports nothing is showing.

UPDATE 2:16 p.m.: The chief says there was definately a lightning strike and it has caused an electrical problem at the house. A thermal imaging camera is requested to check out the basement.

UPDATE 2:26 p.m.: National Grid has been notifeid with a 15 to 20 minute ETA for a rep to be on scene.

UPDATE 3:07 p.m.: Town of Batavia Fire back in service. Home owner advised by National Grid to contact an electrician.

A possible vehicle fire has been reported on the Thruway in the vicinity of mile marker 389.3 in the westbound lane.

Town of Batavia Fire Department dispatched.

The location is west of the Bank Street Road overpass.

UPDATE 9:58 a.m.: A chief reports, "we've got a good one going here." A lane will need to be closed. Additional manpower requested.

A motorcycle is reportedly on fire on Main Street near Jackson Street, downtown Batavia.

UPDATE 12:24 a.m.: Fire is out.

There is reportedly smoke coming from the roof of a residence on Route 20 in Alexander.

There is the smell of smoke in the house.

The residence is being evacuated.

Alexander Fire Department and Town of Batavia's ladder truck being dispatched.

The location is 3076 Broadway Road, Alexander.

UPDATE 6:01 p.m.: The smoke appears NOT to be coming from the residence, but another location. Alexander units being held in quarters and Town of Batavia can return to its hall.

A possible fuel fire has been reported at the Kwik Fill, 7010 W. Main Road, Le Roy.

The spill and fire was reported by a neighbor who said the fire may have been put out using a fire extinguisher.

Le Roy Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 8:55 p.m.: First chief on scene reports no fire showing. Trucks can respond non-emergency.

UPDATE 8:56 p.m.: First engine on scene. A chief reports, "It was just a minor cleaning issue. No issues at this time."
