The Buffalo Bills played a rare Sunday morning game -- because the game was in London -- and multiple bars and restaurants opened early for fans, including the Smokin' Eagle in Le Roy.

The Bills lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 25-20.

Football Roundup: Batavia beats Geneva 36-0

The Batavia Blue Devils improved to 4-2 on the season with a 36-0 win on Friday over Geneva at Geneva.

Stats: 

  • Bronx Buchholz: 8-18 passing for 136 yards, two TDs, one interception, and he rushed for 76 yards on 12 carries
  • Mekhi Fortes: five carries, 111 yards, one TD
  • Zailen Griffin: five carries, 64 yards, one TD

The Oakfield-Alabama/Elba Aggies picked up a win on Saturday, beating Geneseo 31-0.

OAE stats:

  • QB/DL Austin Pangrazio - 21 Carries, 134 Yards, four TDs.,  three Tackles, one TFL,  one Fumble Recovery
  • RB Avery Watterson - 15 Carries, 128 Yards, one TD

"It's good to get one back in the W column," said Head Coach Tyler Winter. "These boys have been working hard.  I'm happy they got to enjoy the fruits of their labor.  However, we know we need to remain grounded and stay the course.  Class D is wide open this year.  We keep saying, 'The team in our class who has the best October is going to really like their November.'  We'll continue to grow and prepare for the next challenge."

Dragons beat Section VI team 68-22 to improve to 6-0

The Pembroke Dragons continue to dominate other eight-man squads, picking up their sixth win against no defeats on Friday by beating Allegany-Limestone (Section VI), 68-22.

Coach Brandon Ricci credits the blocking of Ben Steinberg, Jayden Mast, Jayden Bridge, Madden Perry, JJ Gabbey, Octavius Martin and Hayden Williams with helping the Dragons amass 400 yards of total offense on just 27 plays.

Tyson Totten ran for 275 yards and six touchdowns on 19 carries. He also added a punt return for a touchdown.

Fullback Caleb Felski had 100 yards rushing and one touchdown on seven carries. 

Quarterback Vijay Dhanda Finished the scoring on his lone carry for a 50-yard touchdown.

Defensively the Dragons were led by linebacker Vijay Dhanda with 11 tackles. Caleb Felski added nine tackles of his own, while Tyson had six and an interception that he took 80 yards back for a score.   

The Dragons have yet to punt this season. 

Next up: Wellsville in Wellsville.

York Pavilion beats Notre Dame 25-18

York/Pavilion beat Notre Dame 25-18 in a Thursday Night football game.

For Notre Dame, Jay Antinore was 7-13 passing for 112 yards and TD  with one interception. He also ran for 70 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown on the ground.

Ryan Fitzpatrick had five receptions for 96 yards and a TD.

For York/Pavilion, Parker Bonefede was 13-20 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He ran seven times for 21 yards and two TDs.

Tyler Brady and Jacob Pangrazio each had a TD reception.

Dragons keep perfect season record with 69-28 win

 The Pembroke Dragons improved to 5-0 on the season with a 69-28 win over C.G. Finney/Northstar on Saturday.

The Dragons amassed more than 500 yards in total offense while running only 30 plays.

Tyson Totten ran for 249 yards and five touchdowns on eight carries. The effort put him over 100 total career touchdowns. 

Fullback Caleb Felski had 136 yards rushing and three touchdowns on four carries. 

Quarterback Vijay Dhanda added 72 rushing yards and a touchdown while also throwing for 42 yards and the Dragons' first passing TD of the season to receiver Sean Pustulka.

Defensively, the Dragons were led by Caleb Felski, with 11 tackles and two interceptions. Totten added nine tackles of his own, while Octavius Martin, Jayden Mast, Madden Perry, Landon Suro and Jayden Bridge all added at least five each.  

The Dragons have yet to punt this season. 

The Dragons Host 4-1 Allegany-Limestone out of Section VI next Friday for Homecoming.

Also, on Saturday, Notre Dame beat Geneseo/Mount Morris 35-0. Jay Antinore was 8-14 passing for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Antinore ran four times for 74 yards and a TD. Roy Ricks had 59 yards on seven carries. Ryan Fitzpatrick scored a TD while hauling in five passes for 85 yards. Jacob Sherwood and Antinore also each had TD receptions.

Le Roy dominates second half to beat Attica/Alexander 44-27

In a battle of undefeated teams, the Le Roy Oatkan Knights came out on top Friday night, beating Attica/Alexander 44-27.

Le Roy scored on six of its last seven possessions after trailing 20-6 in the second quarter.

Tony Piazza scored on a 90-yard run. Connor Hegeman had a 23-yard reception for a TD. Piazza scored again on a 49-yard run. 

The defense created five turnovers and allowed only 74 yards of total offense in the second half.

Le Roy stats:

  • Tony Piazza had 15 carries for 172 yards and four touchdowns.
  • Drew Strollo had 10 carries for 51 yards and a TD
  • Tommy Condidorio 1-13 passing for 23 yards and a TD

For Attica/Alexander, Landyn Thomas had 17 carries for 88 yards

Touchdowns for A/A: Trent Woods, Braden Allein, Tyler Marino, Landy Thomas.

For Le Roy, Jack Currin was 5-5 on PATs and also had a 22-yard field goal.

Le Roy is now 5-0 on the season, and Attica/Alexander is 4-1.

  • Swarming defense helps Batavia hold down Vertus for 37-16 win
  • Canisteo-Greenwood beat Oakfield-Alabama/Elba, 19-12.  Avery Watterson gain 172 yards on 24 carries and scored twice. Gavin Armbrewster was 7-12 passing for 83 yards. Jack Cianfrini had three receptions for 52 yards. Ashton Bezon had 14 tackles.
  • York/Pavilion beat Avon 28-18

Swarming defense helps Batavia hold down Vertus for 37-16 win

After a long reception early in the third quarter, Vertus Charter was threatening to score near the goal line when Batavia's Mekhi Fortes grabbed QB Malachi Jones, knocking the ball loose, allowing Maggio Buchholz to recover the fumble.

With an aggressive Blue Devils defense harassing Vertus QB Malachi Jones all night, forcing turnovers and lost yardage, Batavia was able to securing a convincing win over Vertus Charter 37-16.

Bronx Bucholz was 11-16 passing for 139 yards and two touchdowns. 

Cole Grazioplene had two receptions for 18 yards, and 22 yards on one carry, with two TDs and a defensive interception.

Zailen Griffin had 10 carries for 89 yards.

Carter Mullen had four receptions for 44 yards and touchdown.

Mekhi Fortes, who was also a dominant presence on defense, had three receptions for 43 yards and ran for a touchdown.

The Blue Devils are now 2-2 on the season.

Dragons remain undefeated with 49-16 win

With a 49-16 win over Frewsburg (Section VI) on Friday, the Pembroke Dragons improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Dragons held Frewsburg scoreless until the fourth quarter.

Behind the blocking of Ben Steinberg, Jayden Mast, Jayden Bridge, Madden Perry, JJ Gabbey, Octavius Martin and Hayden Williams, Vijay Dhanda drew first blood with a 5-yard rushing TD. 

Tyson Totten rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries to eclipse 1,000 yards on the season, while fullback Caleb Felski added 102 yards and one touchdown of his own on just five carries. 

Defensively the Dragons were led by Caleb Felski with nine tackles. 

Octavius Martin and Tyson Totten recorded seven each, with Landon Schoonover and Landon Suro adding five a piece. JJ Gabbey, Vijay Dhanda and Tyson Totten each had a fumble recovery, while Madden Perry had two. Tyson Totten took his recovery to the house on a 55-yard score. 

Sean Pustulka was 7-7 on extra points. The Dragons have yet to punt this season.

Notre Dame picks up 21-7 win over OAE

Notre Dame (1-3) picked up its first win of 2023 with a 21-7 victory over Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (2-2) on Friday.

It was the second straight loss for the Aggies, who are without QB Brodie Hyde.

OAE Statistics:

  • Junior RB Avery Watterson - 21 Carries, 103 Yards, one touchdown
  • Junior QB Gavin Armbrewster - 4-9 Passing, 30 Yards, seven Carries, 51 Yards
  • Senior LB Ashton Bezon - 16 Tackles, 4 TFLs

"We've got a young team still trying to find their way," said OAE Head Coach Tyler Winter. "A lot of guys are playing competitive minutes of football, and it's a new experience.  The loss hurts, but the goal remains the same.  If we can persevere and build upon the positives, our best football is still in front of us."

UPDATE with Notre Dame's stats:

  • Jay Antinore, 8-12 passing for 80 yards, seven carries for 51 yards and a TD.
  • George Woodruff, 62 yards rushing on 23 carries, one TD. On defense, he had 8 1/2 tackles.
  • Gabe Castro scored a TD on three carries for two yards. On defense, he had eight tackles.
  • Jaden Sherwood had two receptions for 25 yards and a TD.

Monroe handed Batavia it's biggest loss in more than a decade, 40-0

Monroe handed Batavia a second straight loss on Friday night at Van Detta Stadium, and at 40-0, it's the largest deficit suffered by the Blue Devils in more than a decade.

No stats are available for the game.

Batavia will play charter school Vertus next Friday at home at 7 p.m.

Notre Dame losses in home game played at GCC, 25-14

A beautiful day and a beautiful field to play on, but not the outcome Notre Dame hoped for when they arrived at Genesee Community College on Saturday for a regular season game against Canisteo-Greenwood.

The Irish lost 25-14.

Jay Antinore was 12-20 passing for 134 yards and two TDs.

Also on Saturday 
The OAE Aggies sustained a rare loss on Saturday, losing to Avon 13-6.

QB Gavin Armbrewster was 4-9 passing for 113 yards and a TD.  He had 12 carries for 37 yards. Avery Waterson rushed for 68 yards. Shaun Alexander had 33 yards on eight carries and a 55-yard receiving TD.

On defense, Ashton Bezon had 11 tackles and a sack. Austin Pangrazio had eight tackles and an interception.

"Avon played a much cleaner game than us today," said Coach Tyler Winter. "When you have multiple uncharacteristic mistakes, it’s tough to rally against teams like them. This will serve as a good learning experience for us down the road, as we still have not scratched the surface of our potential. Plenty of ball left."

The Le Roy Oatkan Knights improved to 3-0 on the season with a 36-16 win over Lyons/Sodus on Friday at Hartwood Park.

Tony Piazza rushed for 152 yards on 20 carries and a TD. Tommy Condidorio was 5-10 passing for 110 yards and a TD. Jackson Fix had four receptions for 86 yards. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns. Holden Sullivan had two sacks and four tackles.

Also on Friday:

  • Batavia lost to Honeoye Falls/Lima, 21-14.  Bronx Buchholz 11-24 passing for 139 yards, one TD and one interception. Mekhi Fortes had 16 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown. He had six tackles on defense. Cole Grazioplene five catches for 54 yards and a TD.
  • Attica/Alexander beat East Rochester/Gandada, 21-18.

Notre Dame can't overcome early Avon lead, fall 41-12

Notre Dame fell to Avon 41-12 on Saturday.

Both teams scored all their points in the first half.

Jay Antinore was 7-19 passing for 111 yards with one TD reception.  Gabe Castro gained 49 yards on the ground on 14 carries. 
Jaden Sherwood scored a TD on four receptions for 73 yards.

Castro also had 12 tackles on defense.

OAE now 2-0 over after 41-6 win

Oakfield-Alabama/Elba dominated York/Pavilion on Saturday for a 41-6 win in football.

Bodie Hyde ran 17 times for 219 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he had eight tackles.

Shaun Alexander rushed for 42 yards on five carries and scored a TD.

Avery Watterson rushed 10 times for 102 yards and scored a TD.  He had an interception on defense.

Gavin Armbrewter tossed a 15-yard pass to Carson Warner for a score.

Junior RB Jack Cianfrini - 5 Rushes, 65 Yards

On defense:

  • Ashton Bezon - nine tackles, four for a loss
  • Angelo Penna - seven tackles, two for a loss
  • Austin Pangrazio - six tackles, two for a loss

"Total team effort on all three sides of the ball from our squad today," said Head Coach Tyler Winter. "We were thankful York/Pavilion presented moments of adversity throughout the game, as we are still looking to see what we are going to do as a team when those moments happen."

Dragons go to 2-0 with another high-scoring win

The Pembroke Dragons Varsity Football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 58-22 victory over Cal-Mum/Byron-Bergen

Behind the blocking of Ben Steinberg, Jayden Mast, Jayden Bridge, Madden Perry, JJ Gabbey, Octavius Martin and Caleb Felski, Tyson Totten rushed for 330 yards and five touchdowns on 15 carries -- all in the first half. 

Fullback Caleb Felski and Quarterback Vijay Dhanda had the other rushing touchdowns. 

Caleb Kimmel took a kick return 70 yards to the house, and the Dragons got a safety to finish their scoring. 

Defensively the Dragons were led by Hayden Williams with 10 tackles on defense. Madden Perry, Caleb Kimmel and Landon Suro each added seven tackles a piece, and Sean Pustkula had the game's lone interception. He also was 8-8 on extra points. 

The Dragons travel to Bolivar-Richburg this Thursday to take on the 2-0 Wolverines.

Batavia's strong second half team effort gives them first home opener win 33-14 over Wayne

In the closing seconds of the first half, the Batavia Blue Devils scored a go-ahead TD over Wayne Central to regain a lead the team wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way, leading to a 33-14 win. 

It was the team's home opener and made the Blue Devils 2-0 under new head coach Alex Veltz.

Bronx Buchholz was 7-11 passing for 59 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also gained 130 yards on the ground on 15 carries, scoring twice.

Cole Graz snagged our receptions for 18 yards and a TD. He also had an inception on defense.

Carter Mullen had one reception for an 8-yard TD.

Mekhi Fortes, 14 carries, 85 yards, 5.5.

Zailen Griffin, nine rushes for 82 yards and a TD.

The Blue Devils take on Honeoye Falls-Lima this Friday in HFL. Game time is 7 p.m.

Week One Football: OAE beats Geneseo 55-14

The Oakfield-Alabama/Elba Aggies started its new season with another convincing win, beating Geneseo 55-14.

The Aggies shut out Geneseo in the first half, going into the locker room with a 42-0 lead.

Key stats:

  • Senior QB/LB Bodie Hyde - 10 Rushes, 181 Yards, 4 TDs,  12 Tackles, (all in 1st half)
  • Junior RB/LB Avery Watterson - 11 Rushes, 90 Yards, one interception
  • Senior RB/DB Shaun Alexander - 9 Rushes, 50 Yards, one touchdown

Ronald Szpylman, Austin Pangrazio, and Gavin Armbrewster all also had rushing TDs (Gavin Armbrewster also had an interception).

"It was great to see this team come out of the gate and play a style of football that we felt they were capable of playing," said Head Coach Tyler Winter. "They were physical, played well at the point of attack, and they executed at a level much greater than a typical group in a week zero game.  We are very pleased with the victory, but this group is more excited that they can now dive into film and begin preparations for the next challenge that awaits them."

Batavia Bulldawgs claim 34-30 win over Blue Devils in annual scrimmage

The 11th annual scrimmage between the Batavia Blue Devils vs. the Batavia Bulldawgs was another win for the mini-squad on Wednesday evening at VanDetta stadium.  

The Bulldawgs opened the first drive with a 60-yard TD run by Logan Brooks.  They led at the half 20-16.

Bluedevils took a brief lead after halftime, 24-20, then on its next possession, the Bulldawgs scored Parker Davis on a 60-yard TD run, regaining the lead 26-24.   

With 3:44 left in the game, the Blue Devils scored and led by four, 30-26.

Then with 4.7 seconds left, Max Monroe scored to secure the Bulldawg's win, 34-30,

The Blue Devils, who over the past 11 years have won sectional titles and vied for a state championship, has yet to manage a victory against the much younger team.
