The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspected larceny of items from the Flying J, 8484 Alleghany Road, Pembroke.

A subject (photo) is wanted for questioning in connection with the suspected theft. The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual.

Hopefully with the Coronavirus in the past, we PROUDLY announce that 18 Pembroke scholars overcame the obstacles encountered during their freshman thru junior years to win 32 scholarship awards for continued studies worth $48,050. In the last 15 years of service our DFS chapter has awarded 204 Pembroke graduates over
$193,150.

Each award winner was also presented with a lawn sign to recognize their successes and award-winning academic achievements.

The Corfu-Pembroke Community and your DFS chapter recognize not only the efforts of these students but also applaud the efforts of Pembroke teachers, administrators and support personnel involved in the years of preparation to achieve these results. 

Indeed, all the support, encouragement and occasional necessary cajoling of caring parents must also be recognized. It is evident that many in our community value education. These student achievements represent the best of what our schools provide for our community.

The Indian Falls Global Methodist Church hosted its 80th Annual Strawberry Social on Wednesday, serving up not just strawberry shortcake, but also ice cream, brownies, hot dogs, and chicken dinners.

The fundraiser also included an auction and bake sale.

Tacarie M. Broadbent, 18, of Batavia, was arrested on May 23 on a warrant. He is charged with menacing 2nd, criminal possession of a weapon 4th, criminal mischief 4th, obstruction of governmental administration 2nd, and assault 2nd. The warrant stemmed from an incident reported on May 3. Broadbent was accused of threatening another person with a knife. When police arrived on scene, he allegedly attacked and injured responding officers. He was arraigned in City Court and jailed.

Philip Klein is a successful film composer in Hollywood; still, it's nice to come home again and visit your alma mater.

Especially if the same high school orchestra that helped mold your talent is preparing to debut a piece you wrote and arranged.

On Saturday, area veterans gathered at the WNY National Veterans Cemetery in Pembroke to remember those who have served their country and have passed.

This was the third consecutive year for the Memorial Day weekend event.

Austin Malek, 22, of North Street, Le Roy, is charged with strangulation 2nd, assault 3rd, unlawful imprisonment, and obstructing governmental administration 2nd. Malek is accused of assaulting a female victim at about 2 a.m. on May 2 at a location on North Street in the village of Le Roy.

On Wednesday a little rain couldn't stop the Pembroke community from coming out and honoring one of its own with one of the highest honors for a coach. 

Ron Funke, retired Pembroke teacher and Varsity Softball coach, was honored with Funke Field and a dedication ceremony.
