Taste of Stafford postponed for second consecutive year due to coronavirus pandemic

It is with a sense of regret, again, that the Board of Trustees of the Stafford Historical Society announces their decision to put on hold their fundraiser/community event: The 2021 Taste of Stafford, for yet another season.

Citing the uncertainties of COVID-19 guidelines, opening to capacity for public events, the need for additional planning, and the difficult economic year for our sponsors, we sadly have come to this decision.

The Taste of Stafford, started in 2005, was usually held in Ilette Park in July. We usually worry about the weather, but now we have more to consider in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Stafford Historical Society will be celebrating our 14th Annual Taste of Stafford on Thursday, July 12th at Ilette Park, which is located at the corners of Route 5 and Route 237.

We will have food, music, and a basket auction to be enjoyed while you visit with your neighbors.

The theme this year is "Old Tyme Days" featuring old vehicles and farm equipment. The hours are from 5 to 8 p.m.

Bring your comfortable lawn chair, but if it rains, we will be meeting at the Stafford Fire Hall. See you there.

The 13th annual Taste of Stafford was Thursday, where residents gathered in the Stafford Fire Hall to enjoy music and food, for the fund-raising event hosted by the Stafford Historical Society.

The venue was changed from Illette Park due to rain. Last year it was also switched to the Fire Hall -- because of extreme heat. But those who attend always seem to have a good time no matter where it's held.

The Mark Time Marchers from Churchville played tunes that people listening, enjoyed and danced to.

Other residents enjoyed the food from various local eateries, including Stafford's renowned Red Osier Landmark Restaurant.

Thursday evening was the 12th Annual Taste of Stafford. It brought out members of the community for a good time, and they got to enjoy some of Stafford's tastiest food in honor of local veterans.

The Stafford Historical Society, which hosts the fund-raising event, opted to move it from Ilette park to Stafford Fire Hall because of the heat.

"The committee felt that due to the anticipated high temperatures, it was best to move to our rain location which has air conditioning," organizers said in a statement.

"I think it's very important to get the community out here and to meet each other," said Jon Dayton, master of ceremonies.

This is Dayton's first year being in charge of ceremonies; previously, he was "the sound guy" for many years.

"This is a great community event, even though we're inside on a day like today, everyones' spirits are high," said Stafford Historical Society Member Jim Owen.

The Stafford Historical Society will be holding its 12th Annual Taste of Stafford event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 14th, at Ilette Park, located at the corner of routes 5 and 237.

THE LOCATION IS CHANGED TO STAFFORD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT'S HALL ON ROUTE 5.

This fundraiser benefits the Stafford Museum of History and the Stafford Historical Society.

Featured will be: the famous Red Osier roast beef sandwiches; pizza from Shell's Post; sundaes from Dave's Ice Cream; beverages, pies & desserts from organizations and churches.

Included will be the Dairy Princess Court and a Theme Basket Auction. Music will be supplied by Mark Time Marchers: A Brass Marching Band.

The Society is featuring the New Veterans Monument Project "For All Who Served." It is their desire to errect a monument in Ilette Park, honoring veterans from World War II to present. The museum will be open and we will have a display regarding the "Wars of the 20th Century."

Bring your own comfortable chairs. Parking is free.

Tonight was the 6th Annual "Taste of Stafford," which brought together Stafford's finest food and an event to honor the community's veterans (gathered above for a group picture).

Local businesses and community groups participated -- all to raise money to maintain the Stafford museum.
