Salvation Army Women's Auxilary will be having a sit down Swiss Steak (without tomatoes) Dinner on November 1 at the Citadel, 529 East Main St., Batavia. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Only 50 tickets will be sold for the sit down dinner at $8.00 each. 30 tickets will be available for takeout at 5:30 p.m. All tickets are PRE-SALE from a member or by calling the office 343-6284, or Midge at 345-1663. Following the dinner will be a A Live Auction of several Gift Baskets.

We recently mailed out a nice letter from Ernie & I along with a 2009 Membership Application.  If you did not receive the mail-out, it is quite possible we do not have the correct address for you.  You can stop by the Golf Shop to attain a copy or call us with your correct mailing address and we will forward one to you. 

Still open to the public and the best place “you can play”.  We have new lower fall rates.  Call the Golf Shop at 585-237-4131 for more details.

Tuesday Night should be a nice evening and the weather forecast is great.  The Fall Mixed League will begin at 4:15pm.  Just call the shop if you are interested in playing or you can sign up in the Golf Shop.

Those of you (48 in all, plus 12 subs) that participated in the 2008 Tuesday Night Men's League know what a great time it is.  For those of you that are interested in joining the league next year, we would love to have you added.  It is a 9-hole league that begins at 5:30pm.  The league members usually go into our bar afterwards where our staff has a very nice buffet and the bar is open for business.  In 2009 we are looking to use all 18-holes by increasing the size of the league to about 104.  It's not that hard to believe, especially when you consider that all 48 golfers from 2008 have already indicated that they are interested and we now have a total of 60 committed for 2009. 

Our last sale of the season:  All in-stock Drivers (Titleist, Callaway & Nike) are just $199!!
  All fairways (utility or hybrid) woods are just $109!!


Golf bags and personal belongings must be removed from storage by October 30th.

Golf shop credit must be used up by October 31st.   All accounts will be cleared on November 1st.

I am proud to announce the formation of two tournament committees for 2009:

 For the Ladies:
     Maxine Fendick, Sue Spring, Eileen Witherel & Diane Wood

Their main goal will be to increase the participation in all member activities.  I will work very close with both committees as will our food and beverage manager.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Any information about him would be greatly appreciated.  I am looking for him or his family.  He lived in Batavia in or about 1955.  He had an apartment.  He was born before 1928.  It is important that we find him.  Thank you for any help given.

From Genesee Community College:

Four in a row! Another Genesee Community College student has won the annual Ontario Motor Coach Association (OMCA) Education Foundation scholarship. Dana Landers, a sophomore at Genesee and a resident of Alden, NY, has received a $1000 scholarship from the organization this year, making this the fourth consecutive year that a Genesee student has claimed the award. Dana, a Tourism and Hospitality Management major, will be traveling to Toronto later in October to attend the annual OMCA convention and to receive her award.

Dana, the daughter of Frederick and Ilene Landers of Alden, NY, received the scholarship based on her high GPA, her active involvement in industry clubs and events, and her long-term goal of launching a successful career in the travel and tourism industry by earning an Associate in Applied Science degree from Genesee's Tourism and Hospitality Management program. She hopes to become an event planner for a resort or not-for-profit organization, and may continue her education to a higher level.

"My last career actually led me to my desire to become an event planner. I was an exhibit sales administrator and organized trade shows for financial investors and traders, "Dana said. "I enjoyed traveling to show sites, supervising set-up, and providing services throughout the event."

Dana is now actively involved in Genesee's Travel Club and she is the president of Student Support Services at Genesee Community College. She participated in the trip to Las Vegas and also took an active role in the planning of the reception for the College's annual Fashion Show in April 2008.

As a student in Genesee Community College's Tourism and Hospitality Management A.A.S. program, Dana's studies include hotel operations, food and beverage management, and meeting and convention planning, as well as courses in accounting, professional sales, marketing, human relations, and public speaking. The hospitality and tourism industry is the largest and fastest growing industry in the world. It is estimated that in 2007, more than 100 million people worldwide were employed in this sector and there are more than 62,000 establishments in the United States alone that provide overnight accommodations to suit every interest and budget.

Dana is eager to become part of this flourishing industry. "I plan to become an event planner so I may be able to make people's event vision become a reality."

In addition to the Associate in Applied Science degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Genesee Community College also offers a Hospitality Management certificate program for anyone interested in an accelerated one-year introduction to the world's fastest-growing industry. This will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Republican Headquarters at the corner of Routes 5 and 63 (Formerly Georgie Porgies). Dinners will be served from 11am until they are Sold Out.

I guess when it comes to a chicken barbecue, that's all the info you need.

On Sunday October 5, 2008 The Stafford Fire Department held its open house to kick off fire prevention week, along with a Mercy Flight fly in, free lunch was provided to all, many interesting displays, live demonstrations and a lot of activities for the children that were there. There was also a check presentation from Chief Brian Pocock and Car Committee Chairman Robin Krenzer to Karen Bridge from Mercy Flight in the amount of $5000.00 making this our 17th year donating to mercy flight.

Officials at Genesee Community College are pleased to announce that Wyoming County Health Department will be offering the flu shot vaccine to the general public at the Arcade Campus Center on Thursday, November 13, 2008, from 12:00 noon through 3:00 pm.

The cost of the flu shot is $30, however the following insurance programs will be accepted for this treatment: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Univera, Medicare, Independent Health, and Preferred. Please bring your insurance card.

Infants under six-months-old, pregnant women, or anyone receiving radiation treatment, chemotherapy, or have a weakened immune system are not eligible. In addition, any person who is allergic to latex, rubber, or eggs will also not be eligible for the flu vaccine.

A thrilling psychodrama by Anthony Horowitz, MINDGAME is the story of a prominent novelist and author of "true crime" stories as he enters a secluded mental asylum to interview a notorious serial killer. Between a hostile doctor, an intruding nurse and missing staff members, the author stumbles into a nightmarish world of murder and deception, and soon discovers that nothing is quite what it seems. A play full of twists and turns, one question remains...dare you play?

The Batavia City School District Board of Education will be meeting on Monday night at 7PM at Robert Morris School. The public is welcome to attend. Prior to the general session, the Audit Committee will be meeting at 5PM at the Administration Building on Washington Avenue.
