Truckers and their big rigs clog travel plaza to gripe about DOT road repairs

posted by Billie Owens in pembroke.

About 20 disgruntled truckers and their rigs have clogged the parking lot of the Flying-J Travel Center in Pembroke and one of them called dispatch, demanding to speak to troopers about DOT road work. State crews are making repairs on the highway that are causing them to sit idling and they are not happy "with the whole situation." Troopers are responding to the complaint.

The travel plaza is at 8484 Alleghany Road, off the I-90, Exit 48A.

I drove by this today. They weren't letting anyone on or off of the Thruway. It doesn't seem right, especially because there were no signs warning of a closed road.

I got back on 5 after a 10 minute delay, but had I NEEDED to use the Thruway, I would have been angry too.

Just wait till the Thruway tolls are raised 40% for trucks. It will make it will make roads like 77, 20, and 63 unsafe with all the truck traffic!

Brian, how will it make those routes unsafe? Stop stereotyping truckers.

Routes 63, 20 and 77 are already loaded with truck traffic.
