Chris Lee hides behind attack ads

WHY CAN’T CHRIS LEE TELL THE TRUTH?
Lee hides behind lies and attack ads, won’t talk about issues

October 3, 2008

Amherst, NY – Unable to explain why he supports failed policies that have led to the worse financial crisis in a generation, Chris Lee is now hiding behind lying attack ads. He has refused to explain his positions, is hiding from debates with his opponent, and now, in an act of desperation, is refusing to even tell the truth.

Realizing that he can’t win on the issues, Lee is using the millions he made from creating jobs in China instead of Western New York to distort Alice’s support of middle class tax cuts. The last thing the people of Western New York want is another Bush Republican giving more tax cuts to millionaires and more profits to Wall Street CEOs, insurance companies and Big Oil.

“Chris Lee said he was going to talk about the issues, not that he was going to lie about them,” said spokesperson Anne Wadsworth. “Lee is hiding from the press, hiding from the voters, and hiding from the truth. People want someone they can trust, not someone who will spend millions of dollars to lie to their face.”

While Lee keeps trying the same tired old attack politics, Alice is out in the district talking with voters and explaining how she’ll help our struggling middle class. Alice will bring good paying alternative energy jobs to the district, support tax cuts for our hardworking families, provide affordable health care to all, and end the War in Iraq safely and securely.

Chris Lee, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to want to talk about the issues. He refuses to say where he stands on the financial crisis, on job creation, on outsourcing or on healthcare.

Maybe Lee thinks those issues aren’t important, but voters in the 26th district are tired of millionaires who think they can buy an election while ignoring the real life concerns of the people of Western New York. Lee just doesn’t get it. He needs to stop distorting Alice’s position on tax cuts, and start focusing on explaining his own stand on the issues.

“I’m very disappointed by my opponent’s shameful actions,” said Alice. “He owes the voters of this district an apology for avoiding their questions and then lying to them. We don’t need this kind of attack style politics in our part of New York. Lee’s lies won’t create one new job, fix our broken health care system, or change our energy policy. The voters of this district deserve a representative they can be proud of, and Chris Lee has shown he clearly isn’t it.”

Will Chris Lee continue to hide behind false political ads or finally make himself available to the voters?

We originally received this statement in e-mail and I wrote Anne and told her that I wouldn't post this for her, but she was welcome to post it herself. It wasn't a matter of agreeing or disagreeing so much as I saw this as more of an opinion piece and I thought it should come out as her opinion not mine.

And that was before I spoke with Chris Lee. The Democrats have attacked Lee for outsourcing jobs. He offered up a credible defense to those attacks.

I'm not sure it does anybody any good for the two campaigns to keep attacking each other as they are.

Can't we all just get along?

Maybe if the Democrats weren't such an eager attack machine themselves, Lee's campaign manager would have felt more comfortable with me video taping Mr. Lee, and we could have had a fuller discussion (instead of me being distracted with note taking) about the financial crisis. I just offer that as a small example of how attack campaigns rob voters of the chance to be more fully informed.

Too bad no one ever gave that information to the likes of Karl Rove; the Swiftboaters, and the Dirty Tricks division of the RNC. Just saying!!!!

Well, yeah, but that's not material to this race. I'm just referring to the Dems paying for an attack ad on Lee immediately after Kryzan won the primary. It undermines the imagine Kryzan tried to paint for herself in the primary -- the probable reason she won the primary -- and probably the cause this campaign has been negative from the beginning.

One week it's this
Next week it's that
Week after is a sex scandal
Week after that week is that party calling the other poopheads in their ads because their attack sex scandal ads are hypocritical because their own party guy did something 6 years ago

There is not enough time in the day to discuss the "issues"
You want them to try for one hour on RNews?

"People want someone they can trust, not someone who will spend millions of dollars to lie to their face.”

and yet FOR SOME REASON
these guys NEED mucho cash to truly compete
Presidents needing millions a month

and who takes most of this money home with them at the end of the race?

What do they do with that new money in their pockets

How does that influence future races
How does that influence our decisions
How does that influence our government
How does that inlfunce our life
How does that influence our discussions on thebatavian

You want these people to stand for the issues
They have monkeys on their backs
we put them there

we get to feel important in the process because we see on a *daily basis* how the races are shaping up
pleeease. lol What does that tell you.

"Alice will bring good paying alternative energy jobs to the district, support tax cuts for our hardworking families, provide affordable health care to all, and end the War in Iraq safely and securely."

I vote Alice Kryzan for GOD! Why pray to this God to change things he has never shown an interest in when you have ALICE on the job actually listening and walking on water and turning gentle breezes into electricity for millions?

"oh, that issue was sooooo last month...you're so not fashionable"

So some spammer left a comment on this post. I deleted his account before deleting his comment. Mistake. Now I can't get the first line of his comment out of the "recent comments" box on the left of the page. I'm hoping this comment will overwrite that one.

(Nope: Didn't work).

Howard wrote,"Well, yeah, but that's not material to this race."

Exactly my point, why paint the entire membership of one party when you may feel that those running one campaign are guilty of muckraking?
Hey, I better be nice to you. I plan to ask you to be a speaker soon. :)

What about LBJ and the bomb with the little kid, or some of the left saying Bush wants to kill little black kids.

Fact is, starting with Adam and Jefferson, attacks like this have been part of the election playbook. We say we don't like them, but for 200 years we have put up with them. Truth is we like a good fight. Each one us read this stuff and we talk about it. There is a market for it, or it would not be printed or allowed on TV.

Bea, really? Where? Would be happy to speak with any group in Genesee County. I have a ready-made presentation for just such an opportunity.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I'll be calling you on Monday to extend an invitation. I'm lining up speakers for a series on The History of Genesee County Businesses - new and well established.
I planned to call you to ask if you'd be interested.
Any particular time more convenient than another?

Its odd that the hotly contested race for the 61st State Senate seat hasn't taken nearly as negative of a turn as this race has. There has been some back and forth on policy, but none of the attacks have been personal in nature.

@Bea My number is 260-6970. I'll be Batavia most of tomorrow, so any time is good.

@Daniel, even at the GOP thing yesterday, it was mainly about issues on the 61st (and the importance of the district, of course). Mike didn't talk about Mesi at all. He spoke about his own issues. Hawley spoke about what a nice guy Mesi is, but also took a bit of a shot at him about taking too many punches, but really as a cute way to suggest that Mesi should run for local office before state office.
