I recall in the 1980s a tavern located in a former hotel decided to trim its vacant top floor. Several pigeons were left homeless by the renovation. In lieu of their former digs the birds found refuge on nearby school buildings. An exterminator was hired to address the nuisance. When asked as to his remedy, the exterminator discerned sympathy for the birds and fabricated, "they'll get confused and fly around in circles for awhile." One trusting soul who witnessed the rain of dead pigeons dropping in villagers' yards commented, "Poor things must have worn themselves out."

I wrote a letter to the editor of the Daily News. This bird fiasco is killing me. The owners, refuse to do anything. You would think it would be in thier interest to take care of the building if you want to put someone in it. Who wants to have a store where your customers have to duck and dodge just to get in it. Also, if you look it up, it is a health hazard to have all that crap on the ground. Look at it when it hasn't rained for a couple days....the ground gets white. Since the owners refuse to do anything, threatend anyone who would try to do anything....can't the city do something. I mean, comeon, I think they are in kahootz with the local car wash. They sure make a lot of money off me to park my car near my job. I am sure others feel this way to.
