Christmas lights on Redfield

Howard, The next time you are on Redfield, notice the majority of homes have a lighted Christmas tree,which, when looking up the street, appear in a straight line. This is a Redfield tradition that dates back well over 50 years. The first few years one of the neighbors donated trees from his land in Attica and the men from the street would go out and cut the trees, truck them back to town and distribute them to the homes. The stakes to hold the trees were donated by long time resident Harold Rowcliffe who was a muck farmer. Shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, a group would gather to pound the stakes in and the next morning they would deliver the Christmas trees. Eventually, it was necessary to pay something for the trees and $1 was the fee. It increased to $3 and stayed there for many years, then went up  and up and well....that's why you see more artificial then real trees today. But the tradition continues. We still pound the stakes and deliver the trees and thanks to some good people, assist those who need help getting the tree secured and lit. Redfield Parkway residents are proud to have continued the traditions started so many years ago by those long gone now....the Christmas trees, placing flowers in all the circles and the one we are most proud to carry on...the display of American flags in the median on appropriate days. Also, it seems like a sort of tribute on the main road that leads to our Vet's, who have done their duty and are now retired and/or disabled. They really need our prayers and support.
