Today's Poll: Should the government be sending $200 per-child to families on assistance for school supplies?

I agree with the assistance, but not in a form of a check or cash. I certificate good for goods and products that are needed for school. There are many national and regional products out there. The government may need to do research on specific markets.

I agree with the assitance as well, but not in the cash form. It just amazes me more and more of what schools require the kids to have. I could not get over it when my daughter and I had moved to Cuba, NY and the list of things she was to have. I mean very specific.. ie 2 red folders, one green etc.

I just wonder like why is this money not given to the districts and the money used for supplies. Like what happens to the tax dollars that go to school districts?

I will also say that there are many families that are not on assistance and may just be on the borderline of getting help, and then they too struggle to get the supplies. I say thank goodness for the organizations and churches that do backpack programs for families.

When SAT time comes around is the government going to pay for the test fees and for extra SAT study courses to ensure that the students can do well? That's essentially what they are doing with school supplies.
