Gas prices drop a tad on decrease in demand

By Press Release

Press release from AAA:

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.42, no change from last week when the numbers are rounded. Actually, the price went down because it is $3.415, and last week it was $3.422. One year ago, the price was $2.13. The New York State average is $3.56 –no change from last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.23. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia - $3.45 (down one cent from last week)
  • Buffalo - $3.47 (no change from last week)
  • Ithaca - $3.52 (up one cent from last week)
  • Rochester - $3.53 (up one cent from last week)
  • Rome - $3.57 (up one cent from last week)
  • Syracuse - $3.51 (up one cent from last week)
  • Watertown - $3.59 (up three cents since last week)

The national gas price average is down a tad as the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that total domestic gasoline stocks decreased while gasoline demand also dropped. The decrease in demand has contributed to some price relief at the pump for drivers. However, pump prices will likely remain elevated as long as oil prices are above $80 per barrel. This morning, they are hovering at about $80 to $81.

From Gas Buddy:

As of Sunday evening, the national average price of gasoline posted its first weekly decline in months. As the price of oil continues to struggle, Covid cases flare up and anxiety over demand starts rising, motorists are likely to see the declines continuing into this week," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "While it's not known how long market conditions will continue to push gas prices down, it appears that the fall should last through Thanksgiving, just in time for millions of Americans to prepare to hit the road for the holiday. However, the damage may already be done. According to GasBuddy's Thanksgiving Travel Survey, being released tomorrow, a significant portion of Americans say the high gas prices already led them to re-think their plans.

Gas in Batavia has been 3.49 for over a month. I don't know where AAA gets their info from but they have been consistently wrong on all their price updates. I know they say average but if every station in batavia is 3.49 and a few higher then how do you get a lower number?

Howard...the reservation is not Batavia. What part of Batavia do you not understand? And no where in this article does it mention county averages

The reservation is part of the Batavia Micropolitican area, which is contiguous with Genesee County.

We have made clear, many, many, many times -- the average price reported here is for ALL of Genesee County.

Even so, did you survey ALL of the gas stations in Batavia before stating, "Gas in Batavia has been 3.49 for over a month?"

Let's see your data. Let's see your spreadsheet of every gas station in Batavia for the past month.

My data consists of driving in this city for my job. I fill my tank twice a week due to my job.I know the price at every station believe me. Once again it does not mention anything about county average. And if it's true that the rez is considered to be Batavia (which i doubt that's true),then it should not be. Why isn't Pembroke and Oakfield considered part of Batavia? They are both closer to the rez than Batavia is. I think you just make stuff up to make yourself look right.

"My data consists of driving in this city for my job. I fill my tank twice a week due to my job."

That's not data. That's an anecdote.

We have previously explained that AAA uses the entire Batavia Micropolitan Area for its survey. We've many times used headlines that say "the average price in Genesee County" ... clearly, you're not paying attention.

Pembroke and Oakfield are part of the Batavia Micropolitan Area.

I'm making nothing up. I am right.
