Bush was the hand maiden of Cheney. He was a hawk and had a disposition that favored War. Obama is a dye in the wool Socialist. Some of his statements and actions make me believe he thinks the Federal Government is the solution to all the problems of the Nation. I also am beginning to believe that he has a hidden agenda to destroy the American Way of Life as those of us who grew up in the Fifties and Sixties know it.
Bush ignored warnings about threats of attack on American soil, and thousands died.
To Bush's credit, he then directed an offensive against those who supported the attackers - Afghanistan and the Taliban.
However, he then made his biggest mistake, starting the war in Iraq (I can only surmise he did it to prove his penis was bigger'n his daddy's, GHW Bush, who,had the sense to NOT drive into Baghdad at the end of the first Iraqi war. The resources poured into Iraq were devastating to the war effort in Afghanistan, dooming that war.
Then, Bush went from horrible president to despicable person, sanctioning torture. What kind of horrid creature does that?!?
His tax cuts removed any chance we had to pay down the deficit. His failure to properly finance the two wars (one legitimate, one not) caused the debt to balloon beyond anybody's worst fears. Because of this, when the crash in 2008 hit, we were close to,the point of not having the resources (or will) to protect the economy.
He started the illegal unwarranted spying on Americans (curses on Congress for voting afterwards to authorize it).
When a natural disaster hit a major city, his response was shameful, sending a political hack to organize saving peoples lives only to have that hack display his lack of competency. Bush then trumpeted the hacks "great job".
I'm over 50 years old. If it weren't for Nixon, I'd say Bush was easily the worst president in my lifetime... Courtesy of Nixon's existence, though, the jury is still out on that one (I suspect Nixon will end up #2 in the end).
"Now that George W. Bush has finally left office, here's a challenge to a nation famous for its proud tradition of invention: Can somebody invent a machine capable of fully measuring the disaster that was the Bush presidency?"
