Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C – Batavia) recently expressed his opposition to legislation that would extend a variety of tuition assistance benefits to illegal aliens attending college in New York. Hawley characterized the measure as an out-of-touch proposal that betrays government’s obligation to taxpaying American families.
“Forcing taxpaying American citizens to subsidize higher education for illegal aliens is a blatant violation of the public trust and a complete injustice for our American students and families working tooth-and-nail to afford the pursuit of a college diploma,” Hawley said.
“This is yet another example of out-of-touch New York City politicians forcing New Yorkers in Upstate communities to foot the bill for their radical agenda. Families in Western New York need tuition assistance to build better lives for themselves and their children.
"I will fight any measure that robs them of that opportunity, especially this legislation which funnels taxpayer money into public assistance for illegal aliens.”

This idea was proposed by the Democrat head of the State Assembly, Sheldon Silver. Where would the extra money to pay for this come from? A tax increase or by lowering the tuition assistance to legal residents? It has to come from some place.
It is bad enough that an illegal can get in-state tuition, a lower tuition rate than a US citizen from Vermont, Ohio or any other state.

Every Politician should be against giving illegals free tuition or tuition assistance. We need to take care of ourselves first. Unfortunately John, Democrats are not backing this up. After all your pal Obama wants to just open the borders with no regards for American safety.

Ya know I'm getting pretty sick of our country having a quad-trillion dollar debt..yet we still have money to pay for illegal aliens college degrees and the billions of dollars to give to aid other nations!! And while I'm at it, I'm also sick of our nations borders being un-secure and illegals not being deported when I thought we were in a "war on terror" and doing everything to make sure 9/11 won't happen again! Don't think for a minute that it's only Mexicans crossing our southern border!! WAKE UP AMERICA!! BEFORE IT'S TO LATE and we all end up having to live like the people in Ethiopia!!!
