Smoke coming from custodian's closet at New York State Vet's Home

By Howard B. Owens

There is a fire alarm -- and smoke has been spotted coming from a custodian's closet -- in the Ontario Cottage of the New York State Vet's Home.

City Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 8:41 p.m.: A firefighter has gained entry to the closet and reports, "no fire."

Hm-m-m! Smoke coming from a closet, yet "no fire" found.
Maybe somebody was re-living their boot camp days.

When I was at Parris Island, the 'firewatch' dropped a cigarette in a pile our 'sweats'. Burnt up half-a-dozen before it was out. But, not before the smoke alarm woke up the Senior DI. -- HELL to pay that night! ALL NIGHT!!

'Ya know, we never DID figure out where he even GOT a cigarette from.
I always figured it was a 'plant' from the DI's. They're sneaky like that.
