Today's Poll: Should COR receive new tax breaks for Batavia Towne Center?

This is nothing more than an attempt to bailout a for-profit company. Capitalism has risks. It also has rewards. I wish COR Development the best of luck, but only on a level playing field without favorites. Otherwise known as the Free Market.

It would be a bailout if COR was losing money Dave. But by their own admission, they are still collecting rent on an unoccupied space. I see any request for additional tax abatement as nothing more than corporate welfare. But, in all fairness to COR, why should they pay all the costs to remodel their space if we are willing to subsidize the project? The promise of jobs in return for tax breaks needs to be viewed in light of the reality that most jobs created won't pay a living wage. Retail sales clerks, many of which will be part time are not going to pay the bills for this county. Then there is the whole issue of unfulfilled promises from COR's first go around on the taxpayer's dime.
