Today's Poll: Should developers get tax subsidies to build Holiday Inn Express in Batavia?

If we need to entice businesses to come to Genesee County, how about we entice the ones with good paying manufacturing jobs. Not for nothing, but Batavia doesn't need another hotel. And the jobs created are nothing more than a handful of $8 jobs. I don't feel it's the town or county's place to say yes or no to building it; I do feel it's the town/county's place to deny any tax incentives, based on lack of necessity.

Does the Chamber still compile tourism survey data from travelers staying in the area and if so, does that data support your position? It's been a couple of years since I've seen it but at that time, people coming off the thruway were asking for better hotel & restaurant options; i.e. quality recognizable brands.

Bud,
I think they have tried, but good paying manufacturing jobs seem to be avoiding New York State as a whole. In my opinion, at least $8/hr jobs are better than no job.

John,
The point is they tout bringing in companies that will provide mid to high paying jobs, but the only jobs that materialize are minimum wage.

Bea,
I understand the touting. What did you think they would say?

But, unless the Governor can bring things under control, the "good jobs" will go to lower cost states. It really is that simple.

I have finished listening to the Gov. present his new budget. If he can get the legislature to go along, then things will improve. If they buck him, we'll be happy to get those $8/hr jobs, because that is all that will come to NY.
