Today's Poll: Should farm workers be granted a 40-hour work week?

When the crop is ready, it has to be harvested immediately; ASAP. The imported labor force counts on the OT to make the big buck to support their families back in the home country.

I think farmers should be able to run their business the way that works for them but I do believe there should be some fair rights for the employees. I think they have all the laws and guidelines they need and the farmers and help should be able to do what is best for them. Not every farm is the same and not every employee has the same expectations.

Groan.

OK, let's legislate a 40-hour work week for farm laborers. No, let's do more--mandate a full benefits package too. No, even more--unionize farm laborers so everyone can start out at $17.37 per hour and negotiate new contracts right before harvest time.

Let's just cut to the chase and start importing our cucumbers and potatos from China.

Isn't there meaningful work the "downstate urban legislators" can work on? Get to work on welfare/disability fraud, for example.
