Weekend weather advisory issued, snow and wind expected

Oh no! That isn't flip-flop friendly weather... I'm just not ready to wear closed shoes yet!! I guess I should dig out and dust off my snowshoes!

I have never believed what the weather man says is gonna happen because, they have a record of being liars.. Because no one can predict what the weather is really gonna be like from one day to the next.. Everything can change in a heartbeat. IT is usually a ploy for the media to say it is gonna be bad, so everyone goes out & stocks up on food & if the power goes out, your food will rot by the time it gets back on.. It is a no win situation at best except for the grocers that is..
Well we know that winter is cold & summer is not cold most of the time anyway!!

Yeah, John. I know exactly what you mean about winter being cold.
I went out on the front veranda (porch, to you northerners) around 2 AM this morning, to have a cigarette, but had to put a long-sleeve t-shirt on - it was all the way down to 73-degrees!

if we had a LOCAL weatherman at a local station then I would give him alot more credibility. Great Lakes weather is notoriously unpredictable and has been for centuries. Nothing takes the place of being prepared (reasonably) and observation of whats going on around you. Weather will always throw you a curveball once in a while but it's never so sudden that you arent able to get ready for it. National weather patterns help tell you what to expect but like the summer thunderstorm season, you need to watch, certain trees fold up or turn their leaves upside down. Birds will flock and will look for roosts. Watch clouds and winds as well. People with bad joints can tell ya when the barometric pressure is falling and other such little nuances can tell ya more closely to the event.

So we have the possibility of this stuff this weekend. If the wind hits the lakes just right we are gonna have about 6 or 8 inches. Thats what my instincts say, if this system loses it's forward momentum before hitting us then maybe an inch of slushy crap, lakes are still warm enough to be a big snow machine but if the cold air isnt forced over them fast enough the cold front will be warmed some and its impact lessened. Lets see if my weather eye still works good :)

Interesting, Kyle. I'm new to lake-effect country, and trying to catch on to its nuances. And wondering how much a flight to Miami might set me back.

If you live in Genesee County, unless you're on the far Western side of it, I wouldn't worry too much about getting alot of Lake Effect snow. Most of the bands from Lake Erie won't come North of Wyoming County or East of Erie and for Lake Ontario to impact this area, which does happen from time to time, the wind needs to almost be coming due South. There's a reason Ellicottville is home to such great skiing and why the Tug Hill Plateau is snowmobile heaven.

Very True Kevin, however this "storm" is shaping up to be labeled a noreaster... which puts us right on the line of either gettin rain or snow. My sense of it is we will get some significant snow, it's the sailor/fisherman in me, been livin in and by the weather since I was old enough to hold a fishin pole.

Besides if the winds are just right all the snow thats supposed to fall in the normal areas will be blown to us LOL.
