Anne M. Garlock

Batavia - Anne M. Garlock, 78, of Batavia, former owner of Anne Garlock Office Products in Geneseo, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Unity Living Center, in Rochester.

Mrs. Garlock was born August 27, 1938 in Warwick, RI, a daughter of the late Waldo and Katherine (Talty) Nichols.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Batavia.  She was on the Board of Trustees at Genesee Community College for 10 years, member of the Batavia Rotary Club where she received the Paul Harris Fellow and served as the costume mistress for several Rotary Shows. 

Prior to moving to Batavia, she was active in a parent’s organization at St. Catherine’s Church in Warwick R.I. where she received the inspiration to organize community events. She served on the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce and was the founding organizer of the Batavia Wing-Ding/Summer in the City event.  In her capacity as a member of the Genesee Arts Council, she served as the founding organizer of the Picnic in the Park. 

She was a past president of the Genesee Memorial Hospital League, served in a variety of school based activities, volunteered at the NYS School for the Blind, March of Dimes and was a member of the Batavia Jayncees and Lioness Clubs.  She received the honor of "Woman of the Year" from in Zonta Club in 1995. 

She enjoyed lending her artistic ability to many events including clown face painting, doing make-up for Rotary Shows and decorating for formal affairs.  She touched many lives by being a force behind so many endeavors.  She was a great person without ever thinking she was great.

She is survived by her husband, J. Peter Garlock, whom she married August 29, 1959; 5 children, Timothy (Bethany) Garlock of Batavia, Julie (Kevin) Klabunde of PA, Susan Francis (Fiancée John Zola), Scott (Lynn) Garlock and Sara Tenney, each of Batavia; a brother, William Nichols of RI; 2 sisters, Catherine Atkinson and Margaret Toole, both of RI; a sister-in-law, Roslyn Nichols of RI; 2 brothers-in-law, Thomas Scanlon of RI and Richard (Kathy) Garlock of SC; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late Thomas Richard Garlock and sister of the late James Nichols and Maureen Scanlon.  

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 E. Main St., Batavia.  Anne’s Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Site, 18 Ellicott St., Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesee Community College Foundation, 1 College Rd., Batavia, NY 14020.  Please leave a condolence, share a story or light a candle at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
